What would you say the advantages and disadvantages are of using this 3D effect method of doing Isometric illustrations vs the hex-grid or isometric grid method?
If you're coming from 3d modeling background, this approach of using 3D effect would make a lot of sense even though it's very limited in term of what you can do comparing to a real 3d program. For example, you can only extrude depth and create simple shape (like block of cubes). I haven't try the grid method so I can't speak much of it, but if you have no prior experience in 3d modeling, it could be easier to understand since we're working in 2d environment (but it's a longer route). The end result is what really matter i guess.
do you move the objects with ghe up, down, left, right keys? i'm a bgeinner and didn't know if that was possible would really help if you could explain how to move objects effortlessly and align them to right edges and such
Hello, I just created an isometric image but I did everything too big compared to my work plan. The problem is that when I want to resize it, the whole perspective is distorted. How can i make everything smaller without retouch the 3d extrusion value ? (i'm french, i hope that you'll understand what i try to explain aha) Thank youuu :)
Nice tutorial, bud! Is it possible to save it as SVG file, get the svg code and use it for a website? Will it display correctly in 3D format? Thanks for awesome videos btw. :)
Yes, you can. At the end of the drawing, take a copy and then select Object>Expand Appearance. This will flatten all the drawings into 2D. Then export using File>Export Selection and select SVG as output.
OMG, can someone help me with the roud? When i want to align the stripes to the middle of the road and I click the align button illustrator puts those to lines to the center of the road on top of each other and not next to each other? What am I doing wrong? Oh, and reaaaaaly nice tutorial!!!
Nice tutorial. I had looked a grid tutorial but this method is faster. I have a problem maybe you might know where I've gone wrong. When I extrude any shape the colours of the initial shape don't extend into the extrusion as yours do, I'm sure it's just a setting but I can't see it, any help would be appreciated.
must be your lighting location...you can move your lighting location by clicking on More Options (under 3D Extrude & Bevel Options pop up), on the left corner you'll see sphere image and you can drag the light around. good luck!
I just copy (command + C) the grass (those green/yellow patterns), and paste to back (command + B). Then, I change color to brown (in swatches window) and move them down.
ah superb! This makes everything so much easier. Wish I knew this 4 years ago...
it's funny...i knew this years ago, but didn't use it 'til recently.
i never know there was an option like that?!! now i feel like an idiot doing 3d on ai manually :((, thanks for opening my mind
This deserves 3 likes.
Wow I never thought it could be this easy! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for your tutorial! It really helped me to increase my speed in isometric drawing!
Thank you! So much fun!
Love the Little big planet type score.. :D
Thank you very much! Very helpful video!
Very good u do very easily
great tutorial thanks for sharing...
Great job and idea!
That was really helpful. Thanks!

Sounds like you do not wake up someone in the room. LOL... Good tutorial! Thanks.
Hey! I like your tutorial! It'd be helpful if you can share the color palette for us. Thanks a lot! Looking forward for more of your videos.
NICE! Thanks!

Wow it's Cool. thanks!

thank you friend
Omg thank you!
amazing.. u r nice tutor

Hello friend, I love your video, also a version of crossy road in voxel art, I would like you to look at it.
Good job, man!
Cool 😍
Thanks a lot!!!
Спасибо!
very cut. thanks))
What short cut key do you use at 8:04?to shorten the length of the water
Your first shot of artwork is at a shallower angle. Not 30 x 30. how did you do that?
Man thanks a lot you da man ;)
It's a fair method. BUT now try to make something not box-shaped, like a car maybe? It's not fun anymore, this method is very limited.
He did make a car in this video at the end?
but didn't show how he made the car :(
то, что нужно, спасибо

yes, you can use arrow keys on your keyboard. use smart guides (under view).

how can you move object and path together? i do it but only path line move, an object move after so i can't align object like what i want
sound like you need to expand object (under Object -> Expand Appearance).
haha, thank you, it's better, although it's does same you
thank ~~

chethan c Cool! Thanks for the response, man. :)
What is more easier, using isometric grid or this?
guess Isometric is much better
I’m not getting the shadows like you are. How do I fix this?
Can I ask you what you did do to put a certain object on top of others, "6:09"? It seems like 'bring front' in Indesign.
you select that are which you want to bring forward and go to object tab then arrange and choose bring forward or front
looks like a sonic stage
thanks man

probably need to group those lines together first, then do the align button

check out how to make Iso car. I did show a quick look at lighting setting a bit.
will do cheers
when i go to make the flowers smaller, their proportions get changed. Doesn't matter if i hold shift or not.
from my understanding, you hold shift while scaling to keep their proportions.
Thank you a lot!
smart guides don't work on isometric forms so it is to hard to put pieces right next to accurately. is there any tips?
gotta expand first. go to Object > Expand Appearance
Does anyone else feel like he kinda sounds like Chris Griffin from family guy. But I was expecting an isometric grid too.
so, how to make that monster and car?😅
i don't have optiion extrude and bavel on 6:18 for dirt, explanation pls?
if you are already that far, i'm not sure why you can't use extrude and bavel for dirt.
Don't forget to EXTRUDE! GOD DAMN!
Does anyone know how to animate this in after effects?
man u are THE SHIT. THANKS
what swaches you use?
will see yall again when i hit 10,000 subs! lol
hey what is the canvas size? please tell the height and width and also are the colours CYMAK or RGB?
if you're working in Adobe Illustrator, it's CMYK. It's vector based so it's scalable. Width & height are irrelevant.
somebody help me, please! I dont understand how I get wrong 3d plates. The plates just look different
show me what you got. maybe i can help.
the problem is shown in my video on my channel
i see. You'll have to group those (squares) together first (command + G), then use 3d effect.
yes but I have some gaps between them anyway and I tried to use ctrl to slip them without any mistake (see my new video)
wait, I've figured out, I need to change keyboard increment to avoid gapping, thanks a lot!
Don't know why my Top Part doesn't have the darker colored edges

I was here with my fucking grid like "tf, this is so long.." and you just fucked it xD
how u make the 5:39? I dont understand this step :/
I just copy (command + C) the grass (those green/yellow patterns), and paste to back (command + B). Then, I change color to brown (in swatches window) and move them down.
1:11 How did you copy that?
Select the shape, hold the ALT key and drag the shape down
13:56 What is the song name?
you can shazam it :p
Darude - Sandstorm
