Bro as someone that lives in Karama and sees the sort of stuff these guys described regularly, I’m really glad you’re doing these vids and showing the rest of the country what it’s like up here. Most of the country don’t mean any harm by what they say, but more often than not the issues here are constantly downplayed. Unless you’ve been up here and seen things like you have with these lads and heard the stories, you can’t truly understand what it’s like. Hopefully your videos help bring some light to the rest of the country and hopefully whatever help that is needed to get this place back on track can be given. It really hit me when you said a gypsy ghetto in Bulgaria is civilised compared to Darwin.
As someone who lives, what do you think would help? I'm genuinely curious. Darwin overall seems like a scary place from what Spanos experienced once back in town.
issues in Karama and elsewhere aren't downplayed. They're actively ignored & suppressed to keep the non governmental organisation money plus various budgets flowing.
The political parties in the NT are almost like cults. To fix the situation you'd have to revisit the Self Government (NT) Act of 1978 plus the Aboriginal Land Rights Act of 1976 because those very weird pieces of legislation created the very weird situation you see. That's why Spanian looks confused at the end and can't understand what is going on.@@arokh72
honestly, change needs to come via politics and im afraid your regular liberal, alp or greens party just dont have what it takes to do what has to be done. What it seems the entire NT need is a hardline fascist dictatorship- cut off federally from the rest of Australia to sort itself out. i know that sounds extreme and it is extreme but the rest of the coutry dont think people walking around with a severed head is just another wednesday. Honestly, thats pure insanity. We are a first world nation and you cant go out at midnight or you risk getting bashed by iron bars or trip up over people banging in public? WTF is that? Honestly, a brutally tough, authoritarian fascist regime with strict propaganda, work quotas, limited freedoms for the people need to be implimented to whip the people into shape and get them on track with the rest of the country- think of it like military school for wayward kids. throwing money at NT and electing liberals and labor is not doing anything and the situation is just going to get worse, not better
As a former Darwin resident of 17 years I can honestly say that you got a great insight into the insane lives of some people that exist in Darwin and Palmerston. I say exist because it ain’t living. Those lads who took you around deserve a lot of credit for their openness and willingness to highlight their own community and the struggles they face. That encounter at the end with the indigenous woman was just gold. Surprised she didn’t hit ya up for a smoke or a dollar. You are doing a fantastic job with your series. The fact that you are not a journalist and are just curious means that your not blinkered and trying to present a biased perspective. Just keep telling the stories as they roll out.
Ohhh no, sounds terrible. Just got a job offer to Darwin and I just don't understand where I can rent that is safe for a woman living alone. Are flats/apartments with security safer?
Real Journalism.Great work, Spanian. You're doing really important work. You connect with the communities like many others cannot, and get their stories unfiltered. Credit to these well spoken young men for their insight and articulation. Keep doing this, Spanian. Mad Respect.
Mate its actually so great that you're out here listening to people. Not just asking them to tell the most fucked up stories but just listening to what theyre living through.
15:56 got hit in the head with a machete in that park they walked past trying to stop a someone getting bashed. Fractured my skull needed 16 staples to stitch me up. Almost lost my life. People who live here don’t think it’s as bad as it is but then again I feel like you get desensitised to your environment. Was good to see an outsider react to your area and see it from a different perspective. Lot of respect for you Spanian keep doing ya thing 🙏🏽
Seen a Aboriginal woman bottle her husband in the head, her husband then pushed her to the ground and fell on top off her i then seen a fair skin lad walk around the corner and King hit this man in the back of the head because he seen him push her.
That young guy leading you around with his crew is clued up to the max, really on to it guide explaining so many points of everything he knows and experienced. They all did such a great job in this episode sharing the stories of horrific life loss and so much of it is just unbelievable but really, sad. Subscribed!
Absolutely the most impactful hood walk yet... Speechless how devastatingly hopeless those areas are... The boys guiding him were really articulate & informative 👌 Powerful episode
As a Territorian since mid 90s and raised in Sydney (inner city, inner west areas) I have experienced both worlds. I actually feel safer in Sydney tbh. Also as an Aboriginal woman, I've hung around Redfern, Glebe as a teen. But I have to say nothing compares to Karama and other areas. The anxiety I get to just go to karama shops for supplies, I won't let my adult children go there even in daylight hours unless I'm with them. Thank you for scratching the surface of what Darwin has become. A mix of intergenerational trauma, displacement, substance and alcohol addiction. It's heartbreaking to see and hear what happens here everyday. I've been watching your hood docos before you came to Darwin and you are brave. Raw and honest. Well done 👏
I'm originally from Adelaide but was posted in Darwin in the Army in the early 90s and I loved it up there but it has definitely changed since those days. I'm in rural Vic nowadays and unfortunately Ice had made myself and everyone edgey becoming paranoid of strangers.
It’s amazing how it’s never their fault, there’s always something to excuse the behaviour of savages. “GeNerAtIoNaL tRaUma, dIsPlaCeMeNt” the list goes on, it’s never their fault…maybe if they took personal responsibility for their garbage actions, the cycle might break.
The joy the lads have when they recognise Spanian. Can you imagine the feels these boys get when they are walking along, going about your day, and then you spot him.
@zaynecorpus1491 bit late to viewing this, but I just wanted to thank you for highlighting the cause that creates all of the issues in these communities. You have this charisma that makes people listen. It's so amazing to hear you're studying to help out troubled youth and to take the step in the right direction to make a change. Goodluck with everything!!
Very sad to see parts of Australia are so dangerous. Great job showing the area in such a raw format. The local lads articulated the local issues really well. Crazy world
I live in Darwin. These lads described Darwin really well, no exaggeration, no BS just straight truth. Thanks for shedding light on this. I hope our community can grow in the future 🤞🏻
I don't think it's all correct , slightly misinformed especially about BDR , the communities and the alchool signs , atleast know where the jovi boys come from... Wadeye , would have been nice to see more than just fas kids
You have to respect what this guy is doing man. Shedding light on what is really happening in AUSTRALIA. In the under privileged neighborhoods. It’s not all BEACHES and nice scenery, there’s real life struggle and issues happening like every ghetto in the world. Props my brother 💯💯💯 I love the content and platform you created !!!!
As a person originally born and raised in Darwin. I'm glad to see Spanian make a visit, there really are a lot of rough areas over there. Great to see you also show more local perspective, something the Mainstream media doesn't do much
This is just scratching the surface of what happens here in Darwin. Thank you for the exposure. I wish you well in Alice Springs, it’s much worse. Having lived here for 8 years, things are getting very very bad, despite all of the alcohol restrictions and policies.
The alcohol restrictions and policies are what makes a bad society, especially as aboriginals are targeted and supposed to be the reason for it, it creates a bad society in general, it creates crime, and it creates anger, especially the RACIST CARD ( BASIC CARD ) that Centrelink gives to aboriginals, they steal eighty percent of their Centrelink payment and put it in a Centrelink bank, their is no branch for this bank , they cannot access statements etc for business purposes or applications, they cannot withdraw cash, ITS ALL BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT IS RACIST AGAINST ABORIGINALS. I Agree Alice Springs is a HORRIFIC place to live ALL BECAUSE OF A RACIST GOVERNMENT. I HATE THE NORTHERN TERRITORY, I PREDICT ONE DAY IT WILL SLOWLY DECLINE TO BE A GHOST STATE. BUT MAYBE THAT IS THE GOVERNMENTS ULTIMATE PLAN. THE NORTHERN TERRITORY IS NOT PROTECTED, IT IS USED BY THE GOVERNMENT. THE RACIST GOVERNMENT
As someone who is born and raised in Darwin, this place has changed dramatically. The last breakdown hit hard and gave me shivers. It really is sad to see how much this once amazing place has gone downhill. Alcohol is such a massive problem up here and it is everywhere. I used to live in the Narrows growing up and knew not to go to the flats there. I once had to deliver junk mail and never returned. Now I have a family this is the last place I want my kids to grow up. The shit we witness every single day from the humbugging at shop and fronts and petrol stations to the drunks stumbling around and arguing, fighting and swearing it’s disgusting. It used to be a safe community and now everyone has big fences, big dogs and are just sick and tired of the constant break ins and theft. We are done and leaving at our earliest convenience. Thank you for coming here are giving the rest of the world an insight into how bad this place has really become. ✌🏼

This series is brilliant Spanian, what an absolute eye opener. The boys you walked around with are so articulate and stoic about their experiences in the area making this video one of your best by far, my favourite locals youve done a walkthrough with - this needs ep to be pumped up so hard the mainstream media cover it!
I guarantee it will be the way the view count is going - Spanian's about to go stratospheric! ;) The harsh realities that he shows in his videos is what the world needs. In all areas of life, all people, not just Australian Aboriginals in the NT.
I grew up in Karama 35 years ago… we used to get broken into every 3 months back then. Our dog was baited. Thats why people are desensitised, it’s been happening for decades. I have some beautiful friends still there but I have a love/hate relationship with Darwin.
That was intense. There is a sense of hopelessness in this place that you don't see in a lot of other hoods. Saying it is an open air jail isn't a stretch when you see that the government locks alleyways and stamps your house with alcohol bans. Eye opening stuff.
Look we throw money at it all the time we we give them more resources than anywhere else nothing helps cause they don’t want to help themselves any money they make it goes to alcohol
Yes the government does do that, but think what might of pushed them into doing it... only this area u see this stuff. Why should others that can't handle themselves in public or in a society get the same privileges as others that do the right thing. This is called accountability.
I'm so happy that your doing this series, just shows others that have no idea how people live in northern Territory, such an eye opener.Good on those young ones that are trying to stay on the straight and narrow, champions. Thanks for the great viewing, keep it going Spanion❤
I flew into darwin in 2013 and within an hour of being there some a group of kids had a massive knife/machete fight and the cops sat there and watched these 20+ kids chase each other screaming and one kid was hacked into with a machete to the point his hand was dangling off, then the darwin tourist bus pulled up, a nice welcome to darwin
Even the military police (I've never seen one in Aussie, bar when I moved to Darwin) and they also are unaffected by these daily gruesome events Clearly, they're not part of the solution either.
Iv watched all of the Into the Hood episodes up to date. By far this has to be the most informative and in depth tour out of all the city’s. These boys did a great job painting a picture for us viewers by shedding some light on what goes on and the different issues Darwin faces. Keep up the great work mate, you’re on a roll. 👊🏼
Always living nextdoor to Alices side hey Alice I adore ya, not the 🤍 infrastructure but the desert metal and the winds in the night sky, where oeos V.Bats & eagles dare . Who the bucking bronc is Alice. Don't know shit
Wow. You know shit is hectic when the Spanian is visibly shook and on-edge. Hopefully this episode also makes its way to the mainstream media. As interesting as this episode was, it was very heartbreaking. What hope have the next generations got when they are exposed to such horrific trauma. They are literally living in a nightmare....
The mainstream media is complicit. All people who understand Darwin and know what went wrong and how to rescue two disparate peoples, are banned from the NT News and ABC.
@@asya9493Also Tennant Creek Katherine Nuhulunbuy Carnarvon Roebourne Fitzroy Crossing Halls Creek Broome Port Hedland Geraldton Port Augusta Whyalla Townsville Cairns Rockhampton Mount Isa Toowoomba Shepparton Wangaratta Kempsey Moree Broken Hill Bourke and Dubbo. They are all very rough and they are all rough as Hell. He should do episodes on them too.
Best episode yet. You could be our national Bourdain - keep going and hopefully one day you will be delving into the big questions at these places, and not just looking. If anyone can, you can.
Spanian, you're wrap up of the state of Darwin should be in the mainstream news for all Australian people to see, the absolute state of it! Heartbreaking for all of those people. So Many victims, so much hopelessness, Real tangible assistance is needed for those pretty much forgotten people. Keep doing what you do. Amazing!
The way the local boys explain the alcohol bans and police cameras so flippantly because they expect him to know what those are as it’s so normal to them is wild. I’ve lived in Aus my whole life and didn’t know NT was like this!! 😢
It's normal here. It helps a little but barely. Most of the incidents are either related to drugs or alcohol or kids so at times they really don't care about the cameras. Everyone I know has either been broken into or almost broken into at least a couple of times. Always kids covering their faces, or finding a way to turn off cameras/lights. The worst part is once they're caught, it's not very often anything serious happens to them. They end up right back on the street having learned nothing and just do it again.
Because our media has a black out on this type of thing. I watch mainstream news and its all about a stabbing in Sydney or a car chase in Melbourne we get no coverage. I bet you didn't even hear about Declan Laverty how was a 19 year old working in a liquor store and stabbed to death while working, the said thing is his attacker had attempted the same thing only a few hours early and had a wrap sheet longer than your arm. The deaths up here are terrifying, like the poor fella who was stabbed and had his head bashed in during a home Invasion. We are scared to death and what is scarier is the age of kids roaming the streets with knives. They get picked up from a violent crime, but dropped back home becaise they are under the age of consent. In this fella's Palmerston video one of the kids talks about a rapper, this rapper had a very violent past and ended up been killed in a stolen car, sad yes but what they didn't mention was the other kids in the car trried to beat up and steal a good Samaritan's car who stopped to help them. Not to mention the violent crime these kids committed leading up to the accident. The kids have not repercussion and go straight back out and do it all over again.
Most Australian have no idea what goes on outside of the cities. Wild shit goes down in communities that never gets reported on. People don't believe the stories I tell them because they are all deluded with their happy little city life bubble.
@@Shrouded_reaper I've always been fully aware, growing up an army brat moved around a lot. I look intelligent and friendly, so people in Alice and Darwin will kindly warn me to watch my step and my stuff. All these awful stories going on are concentrated in places remote from where most people live. Rather than city folks being in a bubble, they're living mainstream life and it's the far-flung places being ravaged by ice and grog that are bubbles.
The crime and violence in the indeginious community is hidden and downplayed from the rest of Australia. Unless you know someone from there, you don't know about it. My mate is a cop that was in Darwin then Alice Springs and what she has told me of the violence domestic and public, the drinking and the crime in the Indeginious community is just insane and needs to be seen to be believed!
it's an almost unknown fact that the skeletal remains of aboriginal women from pre-colonial times almost all show signs of blunt head trauma. domestic violence and violence against women has been rife among aboriginals before alcohol and colonisation. culture is downstream of genetics.
I’m an aboriginal who grew up privileged in Melbourne and been to Darwin and Arnhem Land to visit. The people up there have no hope and treated like animals. The alcoholism and drug abuse and generational trauma is all they know. The situation seems helpless to get to a point where the local kids have hope and a pathway to being able to change their circumstances. But you Spanian are doing a great job bringing awareness to how bad it is when no other platform will show it. So sad to see but awareness is the first step. Respect bruh.
'Privileged' Really? Your parents were normal. Your birthright is to be the same and take care of your own family with the same respect and to continue to make the same opportunities available to others that you had. Its not a 'privilege' its called a responsibility and whats your ancestors did for generations to make this place as great as it is. Keep it that way.
You will hear the wailing from the woke brigade about the high indigenous incarceration rate. They will never question why it is so high. They do not want to know about the violent offenses against women and children including the raping of children. Most violent crime is carried out by indigenous on indigenous. The deaths of women mostly don't even make the news nor does the disappearance of them. The violence can only be stopped by themselves.
I’m Darwin born and bred and cuzzy, you even walked down my street in Malak…shit was hektic when I was growing up there…went to Sanderson high school and it was just wild. You have to be street smart in the NT and even that’s not enough… Eye opening stuff brother…thank you for showing the Darwin story. Depressing but thank you for getting this story out…
I live in Darwin with my wife and child. I used to live in Brissy but the Territory is different. The sheer rate of crime is unbelievable. And it’s not something you just read about in the news - you will see it on the way to work, after footy training, doing your groceries, going out to town - everywhere. And we’re not talking about organised crime where guys wear nice suits and scheme. It is, unfortunately, aboriginals who are the victims of intergenerational trauma, abuse, and substance abuse who bring violence to other Territorians every single day. My only disappointment is Spanian couldn’t cover Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Katherine or Wadeye where, truly, it’s even worse.
He should definitely spend a couple of days in the communities with permission from the elders of course… they need more help there instead of sweeping issues of alcoholism, rape, dv and crime under the rug and ignoring them…
I live here in Darwin. And this side of it is pretty invisible to me. I see the thefts from stores and ram raids of course, but being an adult is almost like living in a separate dimension to all of this. I'm invisible to them and I don't see them as a threat to me. But I appreciate it being put front and centre, good work mate.
Yeah that’s a good point, I am usually left alone on the buses and at the interchange. The dramas usually amongst the kids themselves. So many kids not going to school out of fear of being bashed.. Sadly we need the security, the police are stretched thin. I may be a bit desensitised. You know though when you need to be on alert and when you don’t.
I've been saying this for years .... If these fellas made the cross in to the eastern states and armed up hahaha western suburbs would be turned inside out....
The media doesn’t care, they would rather most Australians not knowing any of this, if you look at the stats there would be more than a murder a day. It would be too much for people to handle. Some things are better for the public not to know, places like this don’t get better the more people are aware of it.
Also the media do report the rise in crimes but no one cares, NT makes up 1.7% of the aus population, can the media generate any money out of that? Nah.
I used to live in Darwin for 8 years. Completely changed the way I see Australia. Also did construction work in a few communities like Maningrida and Milikapiti. That's where you can see the real shit, the side of Australia that many have no idea about. The real wild west. It's a complex, heartbreaking situation. Awesome video!
@@braxlucky5718that's exactly right! Australian governments solution is to throw miney qt the problem. Money doesn't fix happiness, broken homes and domestic violence.
I went to Darwin back in October 2023 and it's like I stepped into a different country. I started scratching my head why there was 3 x security guards at all time outside a Woolies and literally 5 minutes later, a man has stolen groceries inside a pram. He didn't even bother hiding it and just walked straight out, swore at staff who told him to go back and threatened to stab them. This was late afternoon when the sun was still up and there children with their parents just doing a grocery run. Weirdest thing was no one reacted, like it was a daily occurence. Mad respect to the people who are actually trying to change their situation and work a proper job.
No idea how I came across this but painfully glad that I did. You are a good smart person who should be in an influential position to attempt to begin fixing these diabolical scenarios. More power to you and thank you
I grew up at Litchies, which was once a beautiful place to live. My mum lived there two months shy of thirty years right next to that laneway. She couldn't take it anymore and had to move. To see that complex now brings tears to my eyes.
@@doingadlay to grow up at Litchies? As a kid, it was awesome and a lot different to what you see in this video. It was clean, well maintained and everyone was friendly. I made lifelong friends there (I lived there from 6yrs to 27yrs with my own family )and can remember playing in most of the areas shown. There were two different types of playgrounds over the years but housing took them out because they got damaged beyond repair. There were African Mahogany trees in the park that my friends and I would climb but like mentioned, were chopped down because of the deaths that occurred. As the years passed though, it got really bad. I was lucky enough to move out before it got as bad as it is today. My mum is very old school and very stubborn which is why she lasted as long as she did.
An ex crim/junkie provides the best journalism I’ve seen period. no fluff just honest exposure to what it’s really like. The guy in the blue KC hat defiantly a stand out in the way he spoke. You’re on to something big with what you’re doing, keep it coming
Only an ex crim/junkie could do what he does, anyone else would get mugged /bashed/look suspicious etc/ whatever, at least he seems to realize it is better to try to show the problems and get youth and others to turn away from crime and brutality as a lifestyle choice.
Watching that woman slowly sneaking up behind you, was like watching a swimmer in the ocean not knowing a shark is coming. I was going "Turn around or start walking!" But she got you. Then her non english speaking sidekick just popped up out of nowhere! 😱🤣 Such a sad situation up there.

I’ve lived in Darwin for 15 years. We are totally desensitised to it all. I often have to call the police because I’m walking into the grocery store or at a cafe and witness women getting punched in the face, bottled or dragged down the street by their hair. The victim never presses charges and the cycle of abuse doesn’t end until one of them is dead, usually the women. We have to turn our emotions off to a certain extent to be able to tolerate living here amongst the carnage.
there in lies the problem. Calling police will only ever make a situation worse. Time to man up and bite down on the lip . Id be scared and hesitant but better off dealing with the women beaters by yourself than calling the cops. Make your community safer. Dont call thugs in uniforms
@@thefourfourfour9512I’m a 28 year old, 5 foot tall, 55kg woman. There’s absolutely no way I’m ever putting myself in danger like that. I don't know if you expect every mf to be Batman and intervene in every crime they see being committed as opposed to calling police, but what you're saying is a sure fire way to get yourself harmed or even killed. And for what? You think doing what you said is gonna change anything? It's best to assess situations before blindly running into them like it seems you are suggesting. But I guess you're a hero, right? Time to start thinking like a realist and not an idealist.

The tenant has to request the ARP signs on the houses to ban the drinking. The tenants normally are people who struggle with managing their visitors from out of town. The Government cannot just put the sign up. The public housing also have their own security, they are called Public Housing Safety Officers. They try to assist give the tenants as much peace from the visitors as possible.
@@KRaftopoulos i dont think he realized why it gets done. I know as a non australian living in Australia how much alcohol can impact communities. Imagine how desperate you must be to apply for this so you can keep a safe environment
@@Prettynoes a lot of the tenants have serious health conditions and require renal treatments, all they want is to be left alone and have no humbug from family in communities. More needs to be done to get the visitors to return to their communities.

I grew up in Darwin. (40yrs) Specifically Malak and karama. Riding around those areas as a kid, Malak shops especially. It was never that bad in the 80s, it peaked in the 90s early 2000s. It's a bit funny how the lads never mentioned the KGB Karama Ghetto Boyz or Star7*, they were the boys that literally put Karama and Malak in the spot light. It was basically their kids that blew up into wanna be gangsters and hoodlums that were the troubled youth in the 2000s. They were the little punks you would have to pull into line if you saw them at the shops acting up. Call em out saying I know your parent/s. I owned a house in karama(koolinda Cres literally exactly where you were walking down.)and palmerslum, and I tell you right now going back to Karama every now and again I would be on edge more then going to the shops at palmy. Yes it got wild some nights. Parties getting gate crashed spill out onto the street, fights erupt bottles thrown and shit got real. Cops etc etc. Usually a beef would continue from that fight and carry on until someone was got. It's sad to see it go to shit, we(my family) left in 2018. We wanted to make sure our children have the better setting growing up then Darwin. Unfortunately it's sad to say that I love Darwin and it was home growing up, but it change so much from when I was a kid. Growing up Darwin was laid back and chill, go fishing, hunting and 4wding. It's still does happen as I have still have mates that live up there. Even one that lives in the Malak flats exactly where you were near the start. Broken into more times then he can remember, has had his house stripped from little shits, dog stolen and cars smashed etc. There is no silver bullet for Darwins problems, but the alcohol is it's biggest followed by ice. It's has gotten to the point of people know if you ignore the problem it's less of a problem. You give any attention to the problem and it becomes more, as it is heightened by the acknowledgement that it exists. I have worked in remote communities all over the Northern Territory and have seen that it's just as worse if not worser. Petrol sniffing in communities is atrocious, kids as young as 8-10 getting possessed from inhaling petrol, blood curdling screaming running around at the schools until 5am. When the kids are young they are not taught the knowledge that you can't just take whatever you want whenever you want and get upset when some tries to stop you. If you give them some they want more and they will demand it or they will take it whichever way they want. When grown, they still know no difference. So they keep coming back because the know it's not that bad if you get caught. But if you do, you get to go to jail and get fed and clothed for a few months. So it's not really a bad deal. Those who get housing in the city don't intentionally want the other family members to come to the house but they do and it becomes more of a problem. Alcohol abuse followed by violence and then death. Happens alot more the shown, and usually gets put down as DV and then pushed under the rug until someone dies. You see that this gets repeated over generations. Very sad scenario. Nothing has changed over the years except that those who choose to live in Darwin just put up with it or leave. I try and explain Southerners what Darwin is like and they think I'm making it up. Yes it's a massively different vibe of people that are just fed up with the shit. People see how much money gets poured into wasted efforts to curve the problems but yet no results have come from these ventures. Ahhhh this comment is becoming to political. But anyways, much love Spainian. Love your work brother. Stay safe. 🤙🏼
Well said that was spot on- it is so good the NT issues are being shown to Australia and the world cos if 4 corners can make the gov act maybe so can Spaniard
I’m the lad walking him around, I grew up with the kgb boys and we all used to hang at the shops before K-9 unit was introduced to the car park after hours, even kmc boys and a lot more I could mention, I didn’t mention it because nobody really hangs around the shops anymore or even reps the name so it’s irrelevant
@@RibZe1 it's hard to pin point how to solve the problem, like I said there's no silver bullet. This is decades of learned behavior. The reeducation would have to start at home.
I lived in SW Sydney in the 90s, lived in Airds, then moved to Darwin in mid 2000s. Lived in one of the streets shown here for my first 18 months. Holy shit! Even after Airds this place was just insane.
All true, spent my life in Darwin. So excellently explained how in the hoods we have got so desensitized, because of alcohol and drug abuse, a multicultural mess, that even the sight of blood doesn't even frighten a toddler. To hear those stories brought back childhood trauma of growing up 2 of the 3 areas mentioned. Keep up the solid work Spanian people need to know our condition in Darwin !!

From WA! Mad love to crews,Spanian youre in the zone and setting foot in that city of Darwin is Hectic! travelled to Darwin 2019 and was scoping out the areas, especially Casurina and Palmerston,Humpty Doo stayed in Coconut grove didnt get to Karama areas but felt the connection again instantly when you posted this video up!! I was in the area setting up a mens program named ManUp and this was about getting the men,mob uncles, fathers together to open up on issues, things that werent talked about openly. Rarely do I share, but i honestly met literally droves of families needing help, mental health, depression,DV,Suicide was just tickling the surface. We had connections to folk in Katherine and were about to get some programs into Alice Spring and Tennant Creek NT in 2020 and covid shut us out. Still on my heart to get to those remote communities and get some work done, hey Take my hat off to you man - you made us all look again at the NT Geeing me up again to get my arse back up there to do some serious Work Appreciate you bro!!
Crazy. I lived on the Army base at Larrakeyah between 1997 to 2000 and I moved back to NT living in Nightcliff in 2004 when I managed Super Cheap Auto at Jape Homemaker centre. It's bad how dangerous it is up there now. When I was there you knew it could be dangerous at Casuarina shopping centre with the gangs that were around there, but nothing compares to it now.
Imagine being that disillusioned and thinking that voting 'YES' was going to change the outcomes for the people in this video...... Top video Span, keep em coming 👌
Voting yes would make the problems worse too. I know plenty of natives that voted no, and wanted nothing to do with it because of what it intailed for EVERYONE.
@@AshtonManuelOfficial we both know you wouldn't survive in Darwin. So keep yapping while on your high horse. Try actually hanging out with some of the community and then see if it makes a difference
@@AshtonManuelOfficial I spoke to natives, they wanted no. You have WEF stating it must pass. This was NEVER about natives and giving them what they need. It was about TAKING from everyone that lives in australia. What was said that the vote was for COULD ALREADY BE DONE WITHOUT THE REFERENDUM. Aborigionals already have voices in government, they already have lobby groups, they already have businesses.
Hello from the states. Just came across the show and as a social worker I'm always interested in seeing and hearing about how people live, how people communicate. What ails the communities and what the police and the administration's are doing about it. I'm now a subscriber and look forward to seeing your posts.
Considered moving? Can you save up for a bus ticket?
issues in Karama and elsewhere aren't downplayed.
@user-m2ek5qs8u, what would you say to anyone thinking about moving to the CBD in Darwin?
I never lived in the CBD or visited very often but when I did it was pretty much the same thing that is in this video.

This is just scratching the surface of what happens here in Darwin. Thank you for the exposure. I wish you well in Alice Springs, it’s much worse. Having lived here for 8 years, things are getting very very bad, despite all of the alcohol restrictions and policies.
yeh im sad waiting for that one, it was BAD when i was there last year
The alcohol restrictions and policies are what makes a bad society, especially as aboriginals are targeted and supposed to be the reason for it, it creates a bad society in general, it creates crime, and it creates anger, especially the RACIST CARD ( BASIC CARD ) that Centrelink gives to aboriginals, they steal eighty percent of their Centrelink payment and put it in a Centrelink bank, their is no branch for this bank , they cannot access statements etc for business purposes or applications, they cannot withdraw cash, ITS ALL BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT IS RACIST AGAINST ABORIGINALS.

With all those stories I can see why they are locked down, though it's hard to say if it is helping or just making it worse.
Bunch of lost souls bro dead set
Look we throw money at it all the time we we give them more resources than anywhere else nothing helps cause they don’t want to help themselves any money they make it goes to alcohol
Yes the government does do that, but think what might of pushed them into doing it... only this area u see this stuff. Why should others that can't handle themselves in public or in a society get the same privileges as others that do the right thing. This is called accountability.
During elections alcohol is given to Aboriginal people in exchange for votes. The whole thing is a sham.

Its the ppl that create the problems, not the locations.

Speechless. The average Australian doesn’t know what’s going on past the cities of Sydney or Melbourne. Heartbreaking to see. Beyond help.
Nah.
Abos what do u expect
Nobody cares until it happens in their backyards and neighbourhoods then they kick up a stink

Right all these people doing these protests in these big cities but haven’t set foot out there and into these communities

What was it like
@@doingadlay to grow up at Litchies?
@@davitabapista3623 Cheers for the little run down of what it once was, shit's sad how quick a place can turn.
@davitabapista3623 what happened that the area turned so bad?
Too many of the wrong sort of people moving in and a policing and prosecuting culture which turned a blind eye to minor criminal acts?

Absolutely agree with everything you said.
I reckon prisoners would make the best Judges.
Only an ex crim/junkie could do what he does, anyone else would get mugged /bashed/look suspicious etc/ whatever, at least he seems to realize it is better to try to show the problems and get youth and others to turn away from crime and brutality as a lifestyle choice.

The international hoods are good but linking up with aussies that live in the suburbs your visiting makes it much better cause you hear the stories and understand how bad it actually is. Im sure the lads in those hoods in barca amsterdam and everywhere else would have crazy stories to tell but harder to link up with them and know of their legit
"There is something way, way deeper wrong with this place, than goes by the description of a hood"... yeah this was a lot to take in!
I was born in Darwin in the 80's, lived in Malak. There was one of those laneways alongside our house, it's crazy to see them with gates and locks. Even back then you couldn't leave anything out or it would be stolen, fishing rods, bikes etc.
Especially to try to help someone who is just going to go right back to their abuser the next day.
A lot of the time locals ignore it all and don’t even call the police. But ignoring it is worse… because it escalates and someone could get killed.
people from down South think life is a movie and you can fix it if you become Batman. Meanwhile the whole system protects itself and will punish the people trying to fix it.@@elstc820
@thefourfourfour9512 spoken like a true dolt who probably has no idea what living in a place like this is like. It's really that simple to you, is it?
