In this video (th-cam.com/video/DhRjlIkj2Nw/w-d-xo.html) Paul discusses how to make lean effective by using your sphere of influence. Don't push lean on anyone. Get good at it yourself. Get your team good at it and they will begin to notice.
I worked in a place like that. I didn't get to fully deploy everything before I left but the workplace dramatically transformed over two years. It was a great personal sacrifice and I (re)learned so much through the application of kaizen and doing self development. I pushed and had many glimpses of the void. I found out what I was made of. Eventually it takes hold once it goes past the tipping point. You will learn so much about human behavior even if you can't get it to sustain. Then you can grow out of that environment and find a workplace with respect and lean
