Julie, I’m so excited that these tapestry treasures are going to be stabilized and perhaps repaired better. What a beautiful journey you and Luke have been on these many years, making sure that this important history is never forgotten.
Luke: I admire your loving efforts in conserving and improving Mapperton’s Great Outdoors. Julie: The tapestries and the robes! Simply wonderful. You both are leaving a huge legacy for your family and for your country. 🇬🇧
🇨🇦This vlog was so interesting! I am in awe of these tapestries and this lady that can restore them, she is so knowledgeable. I love the owl box, the owl cam is a great idea!! Oh my goodness those robes!!😍😍What a difference!! Such a talented group of ladies that can do this type of work.
Wow Julie, hey from Evansville, Indiana! All of this preservation work is so interesting and I'm so glad you're doing it. Many people wouldn't. I think you're going to need shelving somewhere (where they will be safe from any possible leaks) to organize all this. The tapestries... incredible. I've been sewing by hand for over 60 years and I'm so impressed with the work these people can do. I can't wait to see all the rest of the textiles. I love this stuff. (And Hampton Court of course
Well! my dear, I think that you had better start going through ALL closets, trunks & cupboards where textiles of the past may be hiding away; as it would be a terrible shame if in five or more years time you happened upon a box, closet or some such container & located more pieces of the tapestry's after the restoration work was already done to them. It was lovely to see how well the coronation robes came together after their restoration process. It has me wondering if there are other places in the house & its environs, that are hiding more old costumes of the past, cushion covers or other treasures of the past that are rotting away waiting for their turn to be found before it is too late to salvage them. Visiting Bath when I was fortunate to visit England in 1987 was one of the highlights for me, seeing all the old costumes, shoes, bags & other items that had been found & restored & then on show for people like myself to view. It was incredible & still remains a wonderful memory today all these years later. I bought every postcard they had of the garments & made them into a scrapbook as a keepsake. I loved reading historical novels & learning about the history of Great Britain & so seeing the garments gave colour to my imagination when reading the novels of the past. It was a magical experience, even better than Madame Tussaud's museum which was also magical.
Interesting episode today from Hampton Court to Barn Owl boxes. The coronation robes were beautifully restored, and if available, more of the filming would be a terrific watch. Loved Luke's foray into adding to the re-wilding. I love Owls and the Barn Owl is a firm favourite. It's always interesting- and entertaining - to see Luke out on the estate. Thank you both.
Always exciting when you have a piece restored! And I love the rewilding work with the nest box. You need to plant more trees now so their descendants have a future place to nest!
How lovely it must feel to be planning all these restorations of such historic items for future generations not only within your own family but all the people who come to visit ❤
How exciting to have those coronation pieces back home! The tapestry project is one that I will be following closely! Thank you for sharing this with us! I do hope the owls find their new home and have many generations there! What a magical place to live with all that history!
I remember reading that the lady of the house, along with her ladies, would spend many months/years creating a tapestry. Usually, during the cold winter months or unbearably hot summer.
It seems that the god on tapestry is not Helios, but Apollo (he has bow and arrows as well), and the scene is pursing Daphne. The nymph and follower of the chaste goddess Diana, was pursued by the sun god Apollo, who had been struck by Cupid's golden arrow. Helios was also the sun god, but with another story)
Love these beautiful tapestries and I had one of my students build an owl house and she did it fabulously as well. It is important for to consider all types of birds because unknowingly people don’t realize that if we don’t take care of them, they won’t have nowhere to go. I love that that you put this piece in there. Thank you for this amazing our house and I’m sure the tree is happy.
Wonderful to see the robe and vest looking nearly perfect. Hope the tapestries can be figured out and displayed in some way. Luke’s owl house is ready for a new tenant. ❤
Know you mentioned probably would not be displayed but that robe looks great . Anyway you can get a see through case to put it in for visitors to look at it
They use a shallow tray for things like dresses, and just sort of let it waft in the liquid. So something like that I think. It would be interesting to see.
Hi Julie, those robes might be earlier than 1837. It’s likely that at the coronation of Queen Victoria the earl would have worn a robe he already had and since king William IV was crowned less than ten years earlier he would have had those, also King William IV’s coronation was only ten years after his brothers coronation. Since the last coronation before George IV was his fathers over 50 years earlier I would guess that it was made for George IV’s and reworn ever since. George IV’s coronation was incredibly grand but those of his brother and niece less so. The countess’s robe is probably Edward VII or George V. Until Edward VII (1902) peeresses robes consisted of a contemporary dress in velvet and ermine but at Edward VII’s they were changed to become more like an overdress or dressing gown kind of look. Since then they have hardly changed. There is a remaining peeresses dress belonging to one of the countesses of Burlington at Chatsworth that shows how they used to look. From George VI the peeresses robes had scalloped edges and for the late queen a few were made in different styles, Hartnell designed some modern ones but they were not popular.
There has to be some colleges around the world willing to assist in restoration of dresses and tapestries for teaching purposes. Has to be a new generation wanting to learn with hands on opportunity with experts teaching/training.
Outstanding restoration on the robes and crowns a Trey for generations to come the tapestry are amazing and can’t wait to see them restored and properly restored back as close as they can. So excited great job Julie and the restoration team. ❤❤❤
Hi Julie, the Robe and waist coat look beautiful. The tapestries are going to be beautiful as well. I am so excited to see them when they are finished. I wonder if 30 years maybe 20 if your children might have a showing of all the things you and Luke have done for Mappertons future and the family's legacy. From inside to outside. Looking forward to donating to the tapestry fund raiser. Love from N.Y.
Viscountess what a wonderful discovery with Emma the Tapestry specialist, let’s hope we can put together at least one of these tapestries that can be hung one where in the Mapperton House. Viscount another very entertaining field trip with the setting up of the Owls hotel, overall such a very interesting and fun episode. Take care and thank you for allowing us to be part of your journeys, projects and the many adventures around the Mapperton estate. God Bless 😇🙏🏰
Julie and Luke what a wonderful episode (they all are really) Could there be any old photographs, from Hinchingbrooke, which show the tapestries? Perhaps you could find some missing details.
The way the tapestries were cut and pieced seems like they weren’t considered treasures, but rather wall coverings to provide warmth to the walls. Were they in the house when it was purchased or taken from Hinchingbrook?
Incredible watching you figuring out the tapestries. Enjoyed Luke on his Owl Adventure and the Coronation Robe “beautiful” what a great day and thank you
What excellent stewards you are of your family’s illustrious past. Looking forward to seeing what’s in that closet. I didn’t catch which species of owl is native to Mapperton. Be well and thank you for letting us peek into your world.
Hello to all!! I'm in the Colorado Springs airport heading back to Silicon Valley, California. Time to spare...enjoying this video again!! Wonderful. Will catch up on Mapperton Live and AV videos!! Lucky me! 🙂🙂🙂
Luke out and about with the owl box, I just know he was beaming from the hard work he did today..was dare I say very impressed..Great job Luck✨Julie as always fabulous job 🫶✨🫶🤗
Loved this episode! Absolutely fascinating about the tapestries! Looking forward to following along as you discover more about what may have happened to these beautiful works of art. ❤
just an idea, but you could display the robe on a transparent/clear mannequin, so the inside may be visible at a certain angle? wild idea, had to share...
Julie, what a gem you found in the tapestry wizard! I do hope they aren’t too damaged to be repaired. Some places were looking pretty sad. Luke’s owl box project is exciting! Hope one makes a nest! Luke will be thrilled!! Wonder what treasures are in the next closet!! Love from Pennsylvania, USA 💕🌷🐻
I guess my only question would be: if they are assembled together where would they hang? Is there an uninterrupted wall that would hold the whole tapestry? These were meant for Hinchingbrook I'm guess and not Mapperton if they were made in the 1750's.
Fascinating episode. I wonder if you might be able to have a room especially for all the textiles and gowns, storing beautifully as you have done with the minument room.
2 questions, did any of those tapistries come from Henchingbrook or are they original to Maperton ? Secondly, i do understand the point in conservation for future generations but going to all of the trouble and expense just to keep the robes in a box? Hopefully they can be enjoyed from time to time..
If the tapestries were moved to Hinchingbrooke House from some other house, then to Mapperton, they might have been reconfigured to fit the new place they were hung.
Where were they King and Queen of? All of England? Why aren’t they still on the throne today? If you have mentioned this I guess I have missed these details! Thank you for sharing all the progress…so beautiful!!
I still think it was such a shame we didn’t have the full pomp and ceremony at King Charles III coronation recently with Lords and Ladies in their robes etc. I under His Majesty wants a parred down monarchy and that coloured his decision for the Coronation.
Julie, I’m so excited that these tapestry treasures are going to be stabilized and perhaps repaired better. What a beautiful journey you and Luke have been on these many years, making sure that this important history is never forgotten.
The tapestries are just magnificent and I know they will be outstanding after they are repaired
Luke: I admire your loving efforts in conserving and improving Mapperton’s Great Outdoors. Julie: The tapestries and the robes! Simply wonderful. You both are leaving a huge legacy for your family and for your country. 🇬🇧
How gifted are these people it’s actually amazing! Incredible gift to restore something so old.

You will have an excellent display piece for the coronation of William V and George VII. This is all about the long game.
Joy, joy, joy! Keep these amazing tapestries "alive" for many years to come.

If it wasn't for you and Lukes efforts with this channel so many Mapperton treasures would have been loss.

For Great Britian as well.

I remember reading that the lady of the house, along with her ladies, would spend many months/years creating a tapestry. Usually, during the cold winter months or unbearably hot summer.
Personally, something I've always wante to do! I've done many tiny needlepoint projects myself. I love the needlework genres.

I love to look at old tapestries. So much work went into them. Bless your efforts to conserve your textiles.
Wonderful to see the robe and vest looking nearly perfect. Hope the tapestries can be figured out and displayed in some way. Luke’s owl house is ready for a new tenant. ❤
YES! Please place an owl camera inside
I love how the episodes are split into segments ft. luke then julie etc.
Such a great idea to have a picture of the robe on the outside of the box so that you don't have to unpack it to see what you have.
Know you mentioned probably would not be displayed but that robe looks great . Anyway you can get a see through case to put it in for visitors to look at it
Wow Emma is a treasure herself
Really enjoyed this vid
Going to enjoy following the journey
Wondering how one would “wash” a fragile tapestry? Another episode perhaps?😃
They use a shallow tray for things like dresses, and just sort of let it waft in the liquid. So something like that I think. It would be interesting to see.
I believe that when Julie was at Blenheim Palace, there was a lady who explained how the cleaning of tapestries was done.
Hi Julie, those robes might be earlier than 1837. Hello Julie and Luke Love how you guys are preserving the history of your beautiful Mapleton saludos from San Diego California ❤
Thanks so much!
Hello Julie! Happy to see you!
Hello!!
Julie, it would be nice to have a portrait made for the current Earl of Sandwich wearing that and the coronet.
The Coronation Robe turned out Beautiful!
Maybe they were a huge tapestry cut down to fit a particular space?
Julie , The history of your place is amazing!
Incredible watching you figuring out the tapestries. Enjoyed Luke on his Owl Adventure and the Coronation Robe “beautiful” what a great day and thank you
It seems like an impossible job, but it’s amazing how beautiful it looks when it is finished.
I hope y'all place an owl camera Luke so exciting. And what a marvelous job Julie can't wait to see the tapestries restored
You should have taken Luke's parents with you to pick up the robes.Would have loved to see their reaction.
Looking forward to videos about the tapestry restoration! Love Luke's owlcam idea!😊
If you reassemble, it's going to be huge. So where will you hang it? I'm just so fascinated. 😁
Can't wait to see what's in the closet!!!!
Julie nice video regarding 18th century Tapestries history and beautiful Tapestries.
I can’t wait for the other cupboard/ closet! Xx
I am extremely excited to follow the restauration process and see the result.
What excellent stewards you are of your family’s illustrious past. Looking forward to seeing what’s in that closet. I didn’t catch which species of owl is native to Mapperton. Be well and thank you for letting us peek into your world.
THIS IS SO FREAKING EXCITING!!!!! I LOVE THIS ❤️. IM ABOUT TO EXPLODE 💥
Fascinating
It's absolutely fascinating 👏...
Hello to all!! I'm in the Colorado Springs airport heading back to Silicon Valley, California. Time to spare...enjoying this video again!! Wonderful. Will catch up on Mapperton Live and AV videos!! Lucky me! 🙂🙂🙂
I'm always happy when I see a new Mapperton pop up. Always interesting, informative, you got it all girl.
Luke out and about with the owl box, I just know he was beaming from the hard work he did today..was dare I say very impressed..Great job Luck✨Julie as always fabulous job 🫶✨🫶🤗
Amazing just AMAZING ❤. How fun the owl 🦉 house.
Loved this episode! Absolutely fascinating about the tapestries! Looking forward to following along as you discover more about what may have happened to these beautiful works of art. ❤
I cannot wait until the next closet!!
just an idea, but you could display the robe on a transparent/clear mannequin, so the inside may be visible at a certain angle? wild idea, had to share...
I think the mythological scene is not 'Helios', but 'Apollo and Daphne' from Ovid's 'Metamorphoses'. The female figure has twigs instead of fingers
So happy for you! It will be so nice! ❤
The tapestries restoration is fascinating!! Also enjoyed watching the owl house placement! The robe restoration is amazing!!
Way to end the anticipation is flourishing✨
Yes to the owl cam
I guess my only question would be: if they are assembled together where would they hang? Is there an uninterrupted wall that would hold the whole tapestry? These were meant for Hinchingbrook I'm guess and not Mapperton if they were made in the 1750's.
Questions I have as well.. 😊
Fascinating episode. I wonder if you might be able to have a room especially for all the textiles and gowns, storing beautifully as you have done with the minument room.
Absolutely fascinating. It will be amazing to see how the tapestries can be matched up again and restored. 😎
Owls bring good fortune.
FANTASTIC!!!
2 questions, did any of those tapistries come from Henchingbrook or are they original to Maperton ? Secondly, i do understand the point in conservation for future generations but going to all of the trouble and expense just to keep the robes in a box? What an amazing knowledge Emma has. Can’t wait for these tapestries to be restored. It’s such a huge undertaking
Fantastic!❤
Yes, owl Camera, and pig cam please!
Always an adventure with the viscountess... I hope the viscount has his notifications on … 🤔
If the tapestries were moved to Hinchingbrooke House from some other house, then to Mapperton, they might have been reconfigured to fit the new place they were hung.
where would you display a unified tapestry ? do you have sufficient wall acreage ?
My new favorite
Thanks!
Will u put it on display ? Shame to tuck it away in a box - do u put it in a temperature controlled glass viewing case?- (coronation robes)
This is awesome!
Excited to see them when finished
Richard Preston wrote of interesting tapestries in one of his books.
תודה ❤❤❤
Where were they King and Queen of? All of England? Why aren’t they still on the throne today? If you have mentioned this I guess I have missed these details! Thank you for sharing all the progress…so beautiful!!
Didn’t know there was a way to repair them
This is wonderful!
Now you just gotta find the Countess Coronation Robe
Ben is such a cutie patootie!😁
I would love to know how they did clean the velvet.
Hello, great show! I had a question, can't you take pictures and try to piece the rug like a puzzle?
I think that’s what the expert is going to do
The dogs attacking the fox 😮 I wouldn't want that in my tapestry 😮😮😮😮
I always pull on the wool way too much and break the yarn. Got any solutions?
How will you wash it?
I still think it was such a shame we didn’t have the full pomp and ceremony at King Charles III coronation recently with Lords and Ladies in their robes etc. I under His Majesty wants a parred down monarchy and that coloured his decision for the Coronation.
❤❤❤
Seems like owls would like a wood, rather than a one lone tree in a field?
❤
Speaking of textiles, is Julie’s sweater in the first half hand made? Would love to know the pattern!
❤
If a Muniment room is for storing and archiving paperwork and books
What is a room that stores textiles called? 🤔
