The weird tube on the shoulder was part of the M1956 Flack jacket…. A fabric sleeve covering a length of rope, it is a rifle sling retainer.
( so it doesn’t slide off your shoulder so easily)
Empty Claymore bags were also used for M16 magazines.
Be careful with the bug juice( insect repellent) its NOT good for you… the stuff will desolve some plastics! You don’t want it on your skin in 2023, use Modern formulas out in the woods.
The M1956 canvas buttpack is highly useful, even when combined with the universal carry strap … even useful in the civilian world. The later Nylon M1961 is slightly simpler in features, but just as useful as a general purpose
    Carrier.

Very good setup! This era vintage gear is getting harder to come by, so glad I got some of this years ago, I’m constantly on the lookout

This is a pretty sweet setup I don't really know much about the gear used in Vietnam but this is a pretty good history lesson, I'm really into your content it's really good.

The Combined Action Program Marines often wore Tiger Stripe, including cover.
ERDL were really something at the time, but they faded crazy fast if you washed them any at all.

My idea for the gear under flak system was probably just so one could take off the flak for whatever reason and still retain gear
You can fight without a flak but you still need gear

4:25 Those tubes are cardboard shipping containers for mortar rounds, I believe 81mm rounds used in the M29 mortar. That same style is still used today for not just mortars, but frag and smoke grenades; they’re commonly referred to as “pringle cans” on the collectors market.

iirc 30 rounders were private purchase from colt, not all that common. Loving this kit though, wish I could get a flak but theyre £200 up in the uk.

no one wore underwear in 1966 as cleaning rags were needed and sweat was bad like you say .. tee shirts just rotted away ..

It's an m7 bayonet in an m8a1 scabbard which is normal for the Vietnam Nam era.

Very nice set up. Do you dump the repro kit when you can find the original kit?

    • @SteelPot1970
      @SteelPot1970  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It depends on the item, with gear yes, but I feel kinda bad using original uniforms for reenacting as they are more fragile.

@@SteelPot1970 I used to have one of the biggest nam collections in the uk 🇬🇧 but have sold a lot off over the years. I just do infantry kit and usmc now and the dress uniforms as they are under appreciated in my opinion. Good chatting to you.
