Have you found any heavy armor in act 1? One of the advantages of heavy armor proficiency is that you can dump dex, but that is of course not possible, if you need to play 50 hours with medium armor first... How much of an advantage heavy armor proficiency is for rangers strongly depends on when you find your first decent set
@Fextralife Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why does your gameplay, character creation screen, etc. look different than what I have early access to? I just downloaded game (specifically because D4 is basically broken), and I was noticing your screen looks different than mine.
I don't know. I have been thinking about the class choice for months now. Usually I default to fighter or wizard, but there are so many great options in this game.
@KingsandGenerals Yo love you videos man! Glad that your liking BG3 just like the rest of us. The potential combos of a Ranger Gloomstalker multi classed with a Rogue Assassin is going to be crazy on first turn potential
As a DnD newbie I appreciate these kinds of videos and find them to be quite helpful. I feel like I got a better understanding of what both classes excel at.
True. Pick Folk Hero or Outlander background and Bounty Hunter and Urban Tracker and you can select sleight of hand as one of your skills as Ranger while people without I think Bounty Hunter can't and you will have 8 skills with proficiency that way and proficiency with the disguise kits and thieves' tools and Thieves' Cant passive making you be the team Ranger and Rogue in one. Now you can put Astarion and Shadowheart on bench and play with other companions.
That Wood Elf pick is hyper optimized, giving you the single greatest amount of level1 proficiencies possible paired with Ranger level 1 picks and a carefully selected Background. Rogue would only be better as a first level to dip into Charisma and a little more Intelligence skills.
Loving the BG3 content! As the game gets closer to launch, you'll probably have to start segregating these videos into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced level guides. There's a lot of information in DnD, and it might help people who are coming to the channel know where to start looking. Personally I'd like to see a video dedicated to the interactions and use of environmental effects. There's a lot of very useful terrain tactics that aren't obvious!
These are really good suggestions. I'm into the 5e CharOp community, so I know plenty about 5e; but Larian's gameplay flourishes will all be new to me.
I put around 200 hours into Divinity Original Sin 2 but have been waiting for BG3's full release to play it so i'm hoping my DOS2 knowledge will help me in BG3 a lot. lol
I am genuinely so excited to play splitscreen with my wife, after Diablo 4 devs weaseling their way out of releasing couch coop for PC (muh technology) I’m glad there are still studios out there that are willing to keep coop alive.
This series is amazing. So many classes and choices-the direct comparison is very helpful! Wonderfully timed from my perspective as my friend and I were just texting this morning and I literally said I was thinking of multi rogue ranger. All in all super helpful!
If you were an assassin and did this, on the initial round would all ranged attacks have advantage and crit potentially against a single target you surprised? Edit: oh, do only thieves get the double bonus action?
If they are using same logic in DnD, you can not dual wield hand crossbows. You must have 1 free hand to releod in DnD, you cant even hold shiel or smt. but you can have crossbow expert feat which allows you to use your bonus action to shoot again. So with crosbow expert feat, a thief rogue at level 4 can attack 3 times.
@@runo949 you can dual wield hand crossbows in BG3, with a level 5 gloomstalker and level 3 thief you can attack 5 times on the first turn, then 4 every other turn
I really enjoyed this video and it answered a lot of my questions. I've been wavering between Ranger and rogue as my first character and this really helped. I've always loved Ranger characters and Gloomstalker sealed the deal. Thank you.
These class comparison videos are extremely helpful and informative. As someone who is holding off and waiting for the official release before playing, this has help clarify what and how i would like to play as. Thank you Fextra!
This was definitely useful and I really liked the part where you talked about multiclassing these two into one. As a total Baldurs Gate noob that inspired me to try out an assassin / gloomstalker combo. I wouldn't mind more videos structured like this, like comparing classes that fit together superbly well and then mentioning the multi class potential of the two.
idk how this game will work with cap being lvl 12 but i know DND Gloomstalker - Assassin is a strong opener, can have one of the strongest opening combos in the game especially at lvl 6.
@@MCG55SS Would you not go Gloomstalker 5 before Assassin 3 to get the extra attack though? I've never played this multiclass and it's going to be my first character in BG3
@@XBezerkerX a normal d&d campaign I would say yes but with the cap game only being level 12, that means you'll be level eight before you got to sneak attack bonus and monsters will be stronger due you being an early endgame roughly or the ending of midgame. So this is just me theory crafting that the stealth bonus damage on your opener will be more beneficial at 6 then waiting to get your two attacks and then going to get your bonus. 9/3 or maybe 8/4 is probably still the final build but the question is when do optimally Branch off. Also I think getting the rogue skillset earlier might open up more options in the game.
I've been trying to read up on race and classes on dndbeyond and it's helpful to even get an idea of what the primary stats tend to be and also understand the upgrades and what-not for each level but these videos are invaluable in terms of understanding synergies and all that. I was thinking on multi-classing monk with one of these classes but anyway, I appreciated the good work that you are putting in. Thank you.
I thought I struggled in Divinity 2 deciding what classes and spells I wanted. This game is gonna destroy me! Excited for more guides on these classes cause I definitely need them! Hopefully you can make one on great dual classes to chose!
@@HeyDudes2000 Well you can respec in div2 after fort joy at least but that can take some time to finish in itself lol. This time around we get it super early which is really nice.
I had this game in my wishlist waiting for the newer classes to drop (monk cough cough) and after seeing this and the dark urge monk, I’m ready to dive in. Thanks for the vids!
From playing around in the EA it seems that rogues really shine in regards to the action economy, even more than in tabletop 5E. Not only is mobility one of the most important aspects of combat (bonus action dash is huge) but there's a lot of items that grant quite strong bonus effects on dashing. A lightning charge thief build is absurdly strong in the EA and once multiclassing becomes an option it could easily become absurd.
I'm a wizard for life, so that's what my character will be. However, I recently had a playthrough where I created another custom character alongside my wizard and that character was a ranger. And OH MY, was I happy with having one in my party! I specced him into archery and I'd take him over Astarion any day. The sheer precision and reliability of the class (especially once he gets double attack) plus the extra benefit of utility spells makes him a perfect low maintenance turret I can always rely on. On the other hand, rogues are great, but they're kind of forced into melee to make use of all their actions, which means you also end up with them getting wailed on by the baddies
As someone who has learned alot of the basics from the early access , information about useful multiclass options is really valuable , for instance you mentioning using the thief subclass to get a extra bonus action was not something I had really considered and I might even consider it for say my barbarian at higher levels
@@enkidu2562 Do you mean "Action surge" on 2-th or an extra attacks on the 5-th and 11-th level for fighters? Most martial classes get the extra attacks on 5-th lvl, but I'd say the thief is quite unique for getting the 2-d bonus action. That would make mix with berserker quite good
@@enkidu2562 It's totally fine, there is always something new to learn. Like dual wielding hand crossbows was something new to me yesterday :/ I guess I spend more time going through wikies than playing the actual game, lol
I want to thank you for these videos. Im 35 and just getting into anything related to dnd. I know its nothing like the same but i was a huge fan of dragon age origins and this game reminds me of that, which i loved when i was in my early 20's. Played a little bg3 as a Warlock but have decided to do a full playthrough as a Ranger thanks to this video. This game is next level.
Do not sleep on the Thief Rogue. I just finished an *essentially solo Early Access run using my Thief, and having 2 bonus actions makes for amazing stealth and dash opportunities. I could easily maneuver to enemy blind spots to sneak attack them and stealth back into the shadows. You don’t need a high amount of HP or heavy armor if you never get hit! And if I did get into a tight spot, I could dash 3 times in a single round to gain distance and reset a fight. Even just having a second opportunity to stealth if the first attempt failed was huge! Strongly considering a Thief for my Dark Urge play through just because of how solo capable it felt. * I say “essentially solo” above as the only companion I kept around for my EA run was Gale, and that’s just so I could park him in front of a vendor and instantly send loot to him to sell while my Thief kept murdering.
Fantastic! I have been debating playing Rouge or Ranger or Warlock in that order .. I figured I'd end up multi classing Rouge Ranger. Can't wait to see your Warlock video
I never multiclass but a Ranger/Rogue sounds like it could be a lot of fun to play. These excellent class overviews have opened my eyes to all kinds of possibilities. I would like to see more 2 class comparisons that would multiclass together well.
Been playing D&D since school (35+ years ago), and was similar but decided to muticlass in a IRL game and have a Lvl 5 Ranger Gloomstalker/Lvl 4 Rogue Scout and it's one of the most versatile fun builds I've ever played. Will be doing a Ranger/Rogue for my first play through.
Still planning on making my Slasher build and this helped. Going to be a Gloomstalker/Shadow monk. Was having a hell of a time trying to choose stalker or assassin. Thx for the great vid
I've been DMing in TTRPGs for half my life (16 years now) and I am DMing for 5th ed for about 5 years now. I have seen the 5lvl Gloodmstalker Ranger/ 5lvl Assassin Rogue in action in my DnD game and the character was a gamechanger, one man army. I was going to build a Gloomstalker/Assassin, but I wasn't sure if I would go ranger first or rogue first due to roleplay elements and environment interaction. Since there is a respec feature in the game (early on, as you said in a previous video), I will start with 5 lvls of rogue to succeed in some early game rolls and then respec him into a 5 lvls Ranger and multiclass into rogue from 6th level onwards. Thank you for the video.
@@Connie_Hakaseangers are a pretty big game changer in the hand of someone who knows to use the spells like Pass Without Trace stealth or Spike Growth Shutdown, the Archery just make them not useless when their spell slots ran out or is allready concentrating on a spell, treat them like Paladin where their Spells actually what sells the class Hunters Mark and Ensnaring Strike encourage bad gameplay since while yes, Hunters Mark is good against Legendary resistance enemy, but what about when you are getting attack by 8 Wolfs who can kill you with Pack Tactics? Fog Cloud the party and make them stay still, Pack Tactics will not work for the Wolfs and instead both the party and Wolfes roll on Neutral Advantage(The Fog is Heavily Obscured enviroment and being inside it cause the Blinded condition where they roll disadvantage for attacks but attacking them is on advantage, since Advantages and Disdavantages dont stack the attack roll is on Neutral, Except if someone has Blind Sight then that attacker rolls on Advantage while the attacker on the Blind Sight is on Disadvantage or neutral if they have any way to gain advantage like Pack Tactics but get disabled anyway since blinded, also True Sight doesnt work on Fog Cloud since its a Conjuration not Illusion) Summoning 8 Animals with Conjure Animals is INCREDIBLY powerfull, thats free meat shields and 8 extra attacks And you can get guess what, 8 Wolves or 8 Velociraptors who has Pack Tactics
You have come a loooong way. I was watching your divinity sin videos. 😂😅 talking about monotone reading bulletins from a script. Congrats on all the success!!
Long-term 5e user here. Def going 5 Gloomstalker/5 assassin/2 trickery domain. Stealth God incoming💪🏻 The damage out put of hunters mark, extra attack long bow, gloomstalker initial bonus, assassin, and sneak attack is insane. Adding two levels of trickery domain can always allow advantage on stealth, and a little charisma flare for duplicity. If you're considering the infiltrator roll in your group, try this multiclass out.
Great idea! This kind of video is very useful because for casual D&D players, all these choices could be overwhelming because of so many possibilities. Can't wait for another video.
Keep up with those vids… because of Baldurs Gate 1 I build my first pc. So bg3 is a dream come true. I consume every little piece of content like candy. 🤩
I'm definitely planning on making Astarion a Thief/Shadow Monk multiclass. I find the monk to be a great way to simulate vampire strength and speed, and that extra bonus action from thief works SO well with the monk's bonus actions!
@@AndreyKrichevsky They will both use wisdom for spells along with perhaps some dex. Additionally the Shadow monk subclass should have some good repositioning tools and steal synergies. I've watched an insane amount of aestus_rpg and he goes into a lot of it in his videos.
This is a perfect side-by-side comparison. These are my two favorite classes. I'll be playing this game for the rest of my life, so I'm sure I'll do a full playthrough with each class, and then try some multiclassing.
The advantage with stealth for rangers is only significant if you don't have Shadowheart in your party though. Cause if she's in, your rogue will be nearly invisible with all the bonuses she brings to stealth.
This is the decision I have been thinking about as I prepare for my first playthrough. Right now leaning towards Wood Elf Ranger, with of course Shadowheart and not sure who the other two companions will be.
Earlier a person mentioned beginner, intermediate, etc. guides. Perhaps in some of the advanced guides you might mention which glasses mesh, starting ones and when to change. Respecing will make when to switch a little less important. As always, thank you for the hard work
Id like to see a Barbarian/Fighter video. I am sure you'd get to it eventually. I am really interested in how those two can multiclass for possibly the ultimate tank build. But this was very insightful did not expect Ranger to be so versatile.
I wanted to play an assassination like build like im playing rn in divinity original sin 2, and i see so much cool stuff you could do with multiclassing both of these
And stealth works much better in BG3 than it did in Div2, i love the game but the stealth was just almost always pointless xD Now we can make big opening hits ;3
@erickchristensen746 fr tho😭 I was like, it's gonna be so cool to come up behind somebody and one shot them and then go invisible and switch to a bow, but I ain't ever used sneak other than to pickpocket. That's all it's good for most the time
Thief3/Paladin so you can cast another BA smite spell to smite on. Thief3/Sorcerer for additional quickened spell. Im curious to see if the Tepest cleric's 6th lvl ability that lets them push a large or smaller creature any time they deal lighting damage works in BG3. With the Sparky set you can find in the early access, that's a lot of pushes and this game rewards that. Looking forward to more from you all!!!
This might've convinced me to play Gloomstalker/Assassin multiclass. Specifically 8 Gloomstalker/4 Assassin: after hitting lvl 5 Gloomstalker to get Extra Attack and lvl 2 spells (most notably Pass Without Trace), get your 4 levels of Assassin and pick up that juicy Assassinate feature as well as Expertise/Sneak Attack, then finish leveling in Gloomstalker. Since the split is 8/4 you won't miss any ASIs or Feats, you'll just get your second one slightly late. You don't get lvl 3 spells, but you do insane burst damage on 1st rounds and have a lot of firepower both in and out of stealth.
i just couldn't get over how much damage sneak attack does especially the ranged version. it's great for downing casters quickly. It's even great against bosses. I'm considering playing rogue basically just for ranged sneak attack, it's so good.
The thought of a rogue/paladin tiefling making four attacks in a turn utilizing duel wield, and then having multiple smites to pump sounds like a delicious critical fishing build.
Dexterity focus ranger with Longbow 6 level Champion Fighter/3 level Gloom Stalker Ranger/3 level Assassin Rogue. If you surprise enemy you have 3 attacks. Action Surge, 2 more attacks all with crits. If you have haste its 6 attacks. Hunter's Mark as Bonus action + Sharpshooter feat.
Cant wait to see some custom multiclassed builds from you. Personally, im going for a blue lightning-based Dragonborn with Draconic Bloodline and Tempest Cleric
I was thinking about the lightening based draconian sorcerer with the tempest cleric too. Do you know if the armor class bonus with the draconic stacks with regular armor?
@@battlefieldpro12345 - that’s how I was reading it too, based on description, but I was hoping I was wrong 🤷♂️ 🤦♂️. Would be GREAT AC if you could keep the bonus!
In my IRL game I playing a multiclass Lvl 5 Ranger (Gloomstalker), Lvl 4 Rogue (Scout). Obviously can't go down the Scout route so will be doing similar but picking Assassin instead. As soon as I saw Gloomstalker was going to be in game it made my mind up on what to play. The only subclass that may have given me pause in Bladesinging and I really hope we see that added at some point in the future.
Great video, looking forward for Sorcerer, Wizard and Warlock comparison. I will go either Sorcerer or Warlock my first play through because of Charisma and how important that can be in conversations compared to Wizard.
Hmm.I always try to play either Rogue or Ranger so the idea is to multiclass at least one of them. Rogue Thief/Ranger Beastmaster with heavy armor proficiency and dual wielding seems weirdly appealing to me. Or maybe Rogue Thief/Bard College of swords for my sneaky support and charm main character. Another idea is Ranger Beastmaster/Druid Wild shape to embrace my wild nature? Will probably restart the act 1 a couple times untill I decide what feels best for me.
I want to go with the gloom stalker on my first play through which will probably last a year lol. But I’m pretty sure that’s the route. I will take as far as my kind of style is concerned, and this video helped with narrowing that down. So a stealth ranger distance now style is what I’m going for. Not really planning on multi classing as instinctively, I don’t want to lose access to those Max high tier level cat skill capabilities however, rogue is obviously a strong candidate with stealth aspects so mixing the two seems like a very viable route to take. In any case, at least this video helped to give me some clarity on those two areas as far as a Ranger and rogue is concerned I’m also very interested in the sorcerer and warlock. Again my instinct is not to multi class because of fear of losing those higher tier capabilities at level cap. I’ll do it where it seems viable but otherwise I want to go into a class completely to fully maximize its potential. So I’m looking forward to your next video in regards to those classes in better understanding the difference is there
This was such an informative video. Really great idea to compare two or three classes together. Imo it gave a better perspective about the differences and similarities of these classes
Honestly I have been debating these two classes for BG3 for over a year now. Still don’t know which way I’m going to go in the end but leaning towards gloom stalker ranger for the first 5 levels and then maybe either multi class with assassin or keep to the gloom stalker. Hope they are as fun as I expect them to be. Have been avoiding the early access as I only play games once.
@@ThwipThwipBoom your right. But I have a few hard rules with games. First I’m 38 and have two kids and a full time job. Don’t have infinite hours to game. Second life is a little too short to replay a game when there are so many games out there to experience. Have never replayed a game since I was a child. There are too many good games to play to waste another 200 or so hours replaying the same game. Got Starfield a month after BG3 then the expansion to cyberpunk a month later. Either way I’ll do a full play through trying to miss as little as possible, then move on to the next game.
@@arch173ct Fair enough. Honestly though, Starfield is likely to be a buggy mess and Todd Howard is known to exaggerate things so odds are you'll get lucky and Starfield will be a broken mid game at launch and you'll get to have a game out of your backlog.

@@arch173ct Agreed. I grew up playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas (650+ hours in those 2 combined probably). I freaking loved playing Fallout 4 and Skyrim in my teenage and college years (200+ hours in each). However I'm well aware of how far Bethesda has fallen since Fallout 4 so I've tempered my expectations for Starfield and am being realistic with how it's probably going to be quality wise. Although I do hope I'm wrong and it turns out to be a masterpiece. 🙏
gloomstalker assassin deep gnomes with a bow exterminate whole encounters before they can even do anything, I'm glad they added assassin and gloomstalkers as their third subclass for some gameplay variation!
Would be nice to see more videos to compare classes with the same role : for example one video on wizards warlocks and sorcerers for the mage archetype, or another one on barbarians fighters and paladin for the melee archetype, and perhaps doing a comparison on witch one is the best for tanking, witch one is better as a bruiser etc
Reliable talent at lvl 11 will be huge for rogue also. Not sure if you mentioned. I'll be doing skilled feat at lvl 10 and have 11 skills with lowest roll being 10 at lvl 11. So much utility outside of combat.
Love the builds and cant wait until game comes out tomorrow!! I am planning on doing a Shadow Monk/Rogue Assassin multiclass or a Gloomstalker Ranger for my first character.
Just what I wanted to know :D What I found very usefull is comparing the skills that are granted when l;eveling a class. It helps allot in chosing when to start another subclass. Now I know how I will tackle my build. Thanks allot! :D
I might go Gloomstalker, but right now I'm leaning archery based Battle Master Fighter. I get archery bonuses, second attack, action surge and the Battle Master maneuvers.
I understand it may make little sense to do 2 rogue ones after each other, but I'm really stuck between assassin rogue and way of shadow monk. Possibly a rogue-monk comparison in future?
Its a great concept for a video, since whenever deciding its often that I'm thinking about 2-3 classes, as opposed to broadly researching. One thing that I think could have been nice to hear more about is how the class interacts with skills. One of the big reasons I've liked Ranger is that it can be quite good at skills I enjoy being proficient in for my main character (Insight, perception, Nature, survival, medicine). Rogue on the otherhand has more versatility (and of course expertise) in terms of how it can specialise with skills - but isnt as naturally inclined to go for wisdom skills. I think this is kind of what made me lean more towards Ranger in the end.
I'm looking forward to playing around with class synergies to combine powerful feats from different classes. From a purely melee perspective, Barb/Fighter/Ranger is a good comparison, but so is Monk/Fighter/Ranger and Bard/Fighter/Ranger.
Just a side note... one that helps with multiclassing massively via rogue... Sneak attack does not need to be piercing.. nor does it need finesse weapons. When they do a sneak attack, that bonus matched the weapon's damage type... so a strength based character can, yes, do sneak damage bonus with a maul, and their 20 strength, for example. Yes, a strength based rogue is possible for some aspects of their usual role, so long as you can find ways of doing what stealth does... and gettiing them advantage. ...picking locks via hammer (wont work on all doors!) ...disarming traps (floor based) via barrelmancy... sure, str is possible... not ideal but... hilariously, possible.
Im planning on Dragonborn Sorlock Storm Sorcery....If Draconic I wouldn't know which color to pick.since so many enemies in game are fire based you'd assume they would be fire resistance as well.I think I would be tempted to use Blue for lighting since this might very effective in combat....I know Storm Sorcery may be more Thunder and Lighting spells orientated.Any thoughts?
Thanks for the video. Very good blend of hinting at multi-classing without going into a class build/guide. A very even balance of sub-arche types presentation without emphasizing one over the other. I felt a slight bias for the Ranger than the Rogue. Not a judgement on my part, just an observation. Could be a bias on my part as I do favor the Ranger. To steal from White Men Can't Jump, I listen to the Rogue but I hear the Ranger. Length was good. What I felt missing was some discussion on late game build differences. I know a lot of PCs will multi-class but maybe just a couple words of what a full build difference would present.
For any DnD newbies, if you are going for a ranger archer type of build. Dex fighter is also very good. They get a second attack and action surge so you can use your two attacks all in the same turn which is 4 ranged attacks and if you take sharpshooter feat at level 4. You essentially become an arrow turret.
If you want more spice go champion subclass so you crit on 19+ and if you go Halfling you reroll 1s. So your crit chance goes up drastically in comparison to other builds.
@@1CaptainFunk1Oh hell nah Champion Fighter is actually the worst Subclass in the entire game Crit Fishing in general is super bad Unless you are Assassin Rogue, they are the only good Crit Fisher Also, Ranger is better than Fighter because they have spells, not just Archery You are saying it like "Paladin bad class because i cant swing my sword" when the entire reason why Paladins are great not just for Smiting, but utility spells
Like the direct comparison in the same vid between similar classes. Doing the three casters makes sense as the next since they maybe feel like a tougher choice from one to the other.
My plan, with no clue about the game, is a Bard. I just love to talk me out of Situations and think Bards should be at least decent at that and support the Rest of the party in case of figthing.
great video... I've been thinking more about party synergy. Do I need a healer, do I need to bring a thief for disarming and lockpicking (and even stealing an weapon from a vendor), etc... I wish the party size was 5 instead of 4
Choices man, choices! Only 4 open spots for party, 12 classes, tons of sub-classes, multi-classing, 8 known party members with more likely yet seen, magical item usage, skills, ability scores... I love fat RPG's that give me this ♥
Beastmaster is underappreciated. Bore has rage. So it has barbarian resistances..plus frenzy strike. So boar hp is effectively doubled and has two attacks. Ranger also has two attacks. 4 attacks per round and a ton of hp
@@erickchristensen746 as of early access the druids forms are weaker then ranger companions. With boar charge i actually got 6 hits in one round before. Its crazy. Beastmaster was always considered one of the weakest classes in the game, and larian really beefed it up. Its not broken. Any full spellcaster can do more damage in a round, but beastmaster can do steady damage all day with no resting
Very useful - thanks. Definitely sticking with rogue. I like my main character to be the one that interacts with the world. That leads me to rogue. I might dual class to fighter at some point. Another thought is Rogue/Bard. Not sure if that is allowed

Do not underestimate the power of a Rogue with 2 bonus actions..
Duel wielding hand crossbows might be the strongest range option in the game.
If you were an assassin and did this, on the initial round would all ranged attacks have advantage and crit potentially against a single target you surprised? Edit: oh, do only thieves get the double bonus action?
Only thieves get an extra bonus action (1 action and 2 bonus actions per turn)
If they are using same logic in DnD, you can not dual wield hand crossbows. You must have 1 free hand to releod in DnD, you cant even hold shiel or smt.
but you can have crossbow expert feat which allows you to use your bonus action to shoot again. So with crosbow expert feat, a thief rogue at level 4 can attack 3 times.
@supermonkey100 yes, thieves only. I did get a magic item in the goblin camp that allows an additional bonus action too, so there are other ways.
Thank you.
Appreciate the combining of somewhat associated classes for easier comparison.
Vey thoughtful. Appreciate the consideration.
@@MCG55SS yeah I've no idea seeing as I've never actually played dnd, but I'm sure they've changed / balanced things to fit the level cap
@@MCG55SS They can respec if they want at any point starting rather earl in the game so people can experiment
Thankfully you’ll be able to respect from the get go, so you won’t have to replay the first act every time you get inspired by a new build like me 😅
@@HeyDudes2000 Well you can respec in div2 after fort joy at least but that can take some time to finish in itself lol.
This comparison was exactly what I was struggling with thank you!
If I'm not wrong, plenty of classes get extra actions - fighters as well, and that might mesh better with your barb. Not 100% though.
@@enkidu2562 Do you mean "Action surge" on 2-th or an extra attacks on the 5-th and 11-th level for fighters? Most martial classes get the extra attacks on 5-th lvl, but I'd say the thief is quite unique for getting the 2-d bonus action. That would make mix with berserker quite good
@@natereaver5754 ah, I see - my bad then, didn't know what I was talking about. :>
Great video. This is exactly the level of detail I want on the classes.
@@runebinder sounds fun!
Awesome - This was the exact question I was asking myself, so thank you for the video!
The comparison is VERY useful, points out many things I would have missed in separate class guide videos
Which early game rolls? Are there a lot of?
@@DekuDude I don't have anything specific in mind. I'm referring to traps and roleplay rolls.
@@Connie_Hakaseangers are a pretty big game changer in the hand of someone who knows to use the spells like Pass Without Trace stealth or Spike Growth Shutdown, the Archery just make them not useless when their spell slots ran out or is allready concentrating on a spell, treat them like Paladin where their Spells actually what sells the class
Hunters Mark and Ensnaring Strike encourage bad gameplay since while yes, Hunters Mark is good against Legendary resistance enemy, but what about when you are getting attack by 8 Wolfs who can kill you with Pack Tactics?
Fog Cloud the party and make them stay still, Pack Tactics will not work for the Wolfs and instead both the party and Wolfes roll on Neutral Advantage(The Fog is Heavily Obscured enviroment and being inside it cause the Blinded condition where they roll disadvantage for attacks but attacking them is on advantage, since Advantages and Disdavantages dont stack the attack roll is on Neutral, Except if someone has Blind Sight then that attacker rolls on Advantage while the attacker on the Blind Sight is on Disadvantage or neutral if they have any way to gain advantage like Pack Tactics but get disabled anyway since blinded, also True Sight doesnt work on Fog Cloud since its a Conjuration not Illusion)
Summoning 8 Animals with Conjure Animals is INCREDIBLY powerfull, thats free meat shields and 8 extra attacks
And you can get guess what, 8 Wolves or 8 Velociraptors who has Pack Tactics
You have come a loooong way. I was watching your divinity sin videos. 😂😅 talking about monotone reading bulletins from a script. Congrats on all the success!!
Long-term 5e user here. Def going 5 Gloomstalker/5 assassin/2 trickery domain. Stealth God incoming💪🏻
The damage out put of hunters mark, extra attack long bow, gloomstalker initial bonus, assassin, and sneak attack is insane.
Adding two levels of trickery domain can always allow advantage on stealth, and a little charisma flare for duplicity. If you're considering the infiltrator roll in your group, try this multiclass out.
2 trickery domain means rogue trickery?
Awesome, thanks very much, very clear explanation, also thanks for the wiki pages that you put up for BG3, I have found them to be very helpful. :D
I would like to see a video on the concept of multiclassing, explaining the basics, and how you can do it in-game, how you can respec etc...
It's funny how all this seems common knowledge when you play the ttrpg. You forget that it isn't. Another banger video as always.
I'm definitely planning on making Astarion a Thief/Shadow Monk multiclass. I find the monk to be a great way to simulate vampire strength and speed, and that extra bonus action from thief works SO well with the monk's bonus actions!
Ditto that for me, but I might to monk/ranger for the tactical synergies if it works better
@@cadesummers5866 What synergies? I haven't looked much into ranger
Same lol. I'm going to be playing this game off and on for at least the next two decades, probably more.
These videos are dope my guy. Keep them up! Loving the BG3 content
Very good video. I was thinking about this for a year.
Barb/Druid is your ultimate tank build. Barb/Fighter is more about hulksmash.
I wanted to play an assassination like build like im playing rn in divinity original sin 2, and i see so much cool stuff you could do with multiclassing both of these
And stealth works much better in BG3 than it did in Div2, i love the game but the stealth was just almost always pointless xD
Now we can make big opening hits ;3
@erickchristensen746 fr tho😭 I was like, it's gonna be so cool to come up behind somebody and one shot them and then go invisible and switch to a bow, but I ain't ever used sneak other than to pickpocket. That's all it's good for most the time
@@erickchristensen746 Agreed, I never used sneak once in combat. I only ever used it out of combat to steal stuff in towns and pickpocket people.
Love this video idea. Can’t wait to see more.
Nice idea for the paladin, what would you say about the thief mix with berserker's frenzied strike?
I'm considering playing rogue basically just for ranged sneak attack, it's so good.
newbie question: whats the point of arcane trickster if sneak attack is so good and u cant do cantrip+sneak attack
@@Lutasiren You can use spells for sneak attack bonus, the spell in question just has to be an "Attack Roll" not a saving throw.
@@erickchristensen746 really? that means lv11 rogue's fire bolt can do 3d10+6d6?
The thought of a rogue/paladin tiefling making four attacks in a turn utilizing duel wield, and then having multiple smites to pump sounds like a delicious critical fishing build.
My first 5e character was a Blue Dragonborn, Rogue Assassin. So happy that I'll be able to recreate and bring to life something so dear to me.
That's freaking amazing. It's like you read my mind. Thank you for these videos

I will be going Half-Elf Rogue (Thief)/ Fighter (Battlemaster) for my first build. I think it'll be a fun duel-wielding build.
These are great overview guides without spoilers thanks!
In any case, at least this video helped to give me some clarity on those two areas as far as a Ranger and rogue is concerned
I’m also very interested in the sorcerer and warlock. Again my instinct is not to multi class because of fear of losing those higher tier capabilities at level cap. I’ll do it where it seems viable but otherwise I want to go into a class completely to fully maximize its potential. So I’m looking forward to your next video in regards to those classes in better understanding the difference is there
I guess the multiclassing could be more powerful in the midgame, and you always can respec If you don't like how it went
@@natereaver5754 that’s fair
This was such an informative video. Really great idea to compare two or three classes together. Imo it gave a better perspective about the differences and similarities of these classes
I think I’m goin for a monk/ranger multi. 8/4 in each. Really lookin forward to it
Honestly I have been debating these two classes for BG3 for over a year now. Still don’t know which way I’m going to go in the end but leaning towards gloom stalker ranger for the first 5 levels and then maybe either multi class with assassin or keep to the gloom stalker. Hope they are as fun as I expect them to be. Have been avoiding the early access as I only play games once.
Maybe you should play this game more than once, there's so much replayability in it from what I've seen.
@@ThwipThwipBoom your right. But I have a few hard rules with games. First I’m 38 and have two kids and a full time job. Don’t have infinite hours to game. gloomstalker assassin deep gnomes with a bow exterminate whole encounters before they can even do anything, I'm glad they added assassin and gloomstalkers as their third subclass for some gameplay variation!

Great video, you da man!
Always wanted to play DnD but could never find a group so I'll have to settle for this. Can't wait to see more Baldur's Gate 3 content.
Awesome video! I really like this vs format. Now I want to play as a Rogue after watching this. Looking forward to a vs video with spell casters too.
I'm looking forward to playing around with class synergies to combine powerful feats from different classes. From a purely melee perspective, Barb/Fighter/Ranger is a good comparison, but so is Monk/Fighter/Ranger and Bard/Fighter/Ranger.
These videos are holding me over untill release. Can't wait
Great video - i plan on getting this for my PS5 and playing a Drow Rogue. Closest i've come to playing a game like this is Wasteland 3.
very timely video. Well done. Helped me out!
Would love to hear about the warlock with pact of the blade
I liked the compare and contrast you did in this video. Having this done in one vid help clear up some questions I had. Thank you.
Im planning on Dragonborn Sorlock Storm Sorcery....If Draconic I wouldn't know which color to pick.since so many enemies in game are fire based you'd assume they would be fire resistance as well.I think I would be tempted to use Blue for lighting since this might very effective in combat....I know Storm Sorcery may be more Thunder and Lighting spells orientated.Any thoughts?
loving the class videos giving a different prospective. As for future vids I'ld like to see paladin vs cleric. Keep up the great work
100% agree that choosing to feature these two together was more efficient, thank you!
Id like to see cleric/pally possibilities, then ranger druid, rogue/druid, fighter/cleric, fighter/druid. All before launch!!
@@1CaptainFunk1Oh hell nah
Champion Fighter is actually the worst Subclass in the entire game
Crit Fishing in general is super bad
Unless you are Assassin Rogue, they are the only good Crit Fisher

Like the direct comparison in the same vid between similar classes. Doing the three casters makes sense as the next since they maybe feel like a tougher choice from one to the other.
My plan, with no clue about the game, is a Bard.
I just love to talk me out of Situations and think Bards should be at least decent at that and support the Rest of the party in case of figthing.
Very useful approach!
great video... I've been thinking more about party synergy. Do I need a healer, do I need to bring a thief for disarming and lockpicking (and even stealing an weapon from a vendor), etc... I wish the party size was 5 instead of 4
I find it so hard to choose, at first I thought I was thinking of ranger or druid, but now warlock, sorceror and rogue all joined my options haha
Makes me wonder if Druid will get a boar or giant boar with similar abilities
