I know you're joking but there was a try scored by Ruben Kruger, but the ref (Ed Morrison) disallowed it. The on field decision was that it was held up over the line but he later admitted that it was probably a try (www.rugbydump.com/news/ed-morrison-admits-that-springboks-probably-scored-try-in-1995-world-cup-final/).

@@wynopietersen6513 Yup. I remember Sports Illustrated in the late 90s creating a best and worst Bok team of all time. Mark Andrew's was in both teams - at lock in the best and at 8 in the worst.

I remember this match as one of the bloodiest I've seen in terms of punch ups.

Just before Chester Williams scored his 1st try Andre Joubert, who threw the brilliant last pass, seemed to be hit quite dangerously. Was that the incident Joubert broke one (left IIRC) of his thumb?

That’s the one ... I was at this game. It was a bad hit!
Mike Umaga was Samoan fullback that day and he was headhunting big time! Got called out after the game for suspension ... not that it mattered as Samoa were totally out by the time he went deliberately headhunting.
Game got ugly after about Boks were 20 points up. Samoa stopped playing rugby ... there were so many cheap shots by a certain stage ... so much so that there were claims they were culling Bok top players (Joost included) to assist their “big brothers” the All Blacks who would be facing either the Boks or France in a potential final.
Joubert was taken out badly, Joost was taken out badly - I believe Umaga was eventually sent off on a yellow for laying out Joost (his repeated infringements)... and there were a few incidents and dust ups throughout when it was obvious Samoa weren’t there to play rugby or win the game.
Needless to say there was huge crowd cheers on a particular huge tackle on their fullback (totally legal) by ... I wanna say Jamie Mulder (but I could be mistaken ... total pick up and dump tackle while it was still legal on a guy who was constantly going for the head and late with no arms throughout game
