  • The greyhound is the fastest dog in the world. With a top speed of 72 km per hour, this dog can nearly keep up with the slow lane on a highway. They are well-known as racing dogs and are still raced worldwide today.

    I Don't think this video shows animal abuse like people are saying in the comments. For a start they look like house dogs, not professional dogs locked up in a kennel for hours on end. This is a grass track with amateurs racing what look like pet whippets, not 27 inch minimum Greyhounds. Lurcher Link, the rescue charity in the UK where my sighthounds came from regularly hold race meets at a track for fun. The dogs love it, running is what they want to do.

      Ok but listen, i bet you alot of them are slaughtered after they fail to win a race. I mean, i have a reason to believe that, people are fully capable of doing absolutely horrific things like dog fights. They dont care about the dogs at all, they scar them mentally and physically. Since people do this, i don't find it very hard to believe greyhounds that don't place very well after a race, get murdered or just thrown out on the side of a road like a bag of garbage. Sure, some lucky ones who retire get put in a real home, but that doesn't occur as much as being *killed*

    • @maximus9213
      @maximus9213 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'd LOVE some supporting evidence. But even if that were true, it would hardly be the case everywhere. As it is not the case in my country. I have seen firsthand how well the dogs are treated by their trainers, even after being rehomed such as trainers paying for food and vet bills on the owner's behalf. Greyhound racing is not inherently animal abuse, and if the racers are being mistreated, something should be done about it. It is entirely possible for greyhound racing to occur without cruelty to the dogs, and thus, the system in many countries can be improved. It doesn't warrant an outright ban as unlike dog fighting which exists with only the intent of violence and injury, racing is enjoyed by greyhounds. I've seen greyhounds who were retired for years who got up, tails wagging at a race on TV.

      @maximus9213 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@princenaveenthefrog1457 No, livebaiting is never okay. That's what lures are for and there isn't even any benefit to livebaiting in profits from races. My retired racer was trained with livebaiting and he still turned out to be a fairly rubbish race dog. I'm very glad that his trainer was arrested, as should any trainers who participate in livebaiting

      Most racing dogs in the US are treated very well. In fact, they probably have better lives than most house dogs because they get to run, instead of being cooped up in a house all day and fed to obesity.

      @Robin Mavhunduke Why is it cruel to let them do what they love to do? Greyhounds love to race, to chase that lure. It's a game to them. They are not locked up. They eat, nap and sleep in large crates in large kennels with their handlers with them every single day for 14 hours a day. They are out of their crates to play, potty, go for walks, run sprints, get rub downs and get a health check by a kennel Vet. They get plenty of love every day. So tell me what is cruel about it? If a dog is in a loving home and cared for who cares if they are put to work? I’m not necessarily talking about greyhounds but I’ve had many working dogs who absolutely LOVE what they do and do their job even when they aren’t even asked to do so because it’s in their breed and they have a drive to do the work they are put to. In the end it saves money but in reality I train them because it’s a fun activity I can do with my dog that gives them mental and physical stimulation. Greyhounds love to run, they don’t know they are working. They don’t know there is a job to do at all. So I’d say it depends on the treatment and how often they run. If they race to the point of illness, you’re absolutely right. They are doing nothing to help the dog and only thinking of their wallets. But if a dog is happy, healthy, loved, has fun and isn’t ran into the ground then why not? It’s really no different than any other activity with your dog in that circumstance.

    • @hellom8744
      @hellom8744 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Moon's Animation 's The simple answer is that they don’t. Greyhounds/whippets aren’t very popular in the pet world (idk why, I personally want to rescue one someday). There aren’t a lot of registered breeders or back-yard breeders bc to make a long story short they just aren’t as profitable as, say, a goldendoodle or the other “designer breeds” that you’ll find in shelters. Unethical mills won’t produce dogs that won’t sell because they think with their wallets, as cruel as that is. Ethical breeders will not produce large quantities of dogs because they are more focused on establishing lines and maintaining health and personality. Ethical breeders may mark up the prices on their puppies but they make very little profit. Breeders in general won’t even bother with a dog who does not naturally want to mate. They are typically spay/neutered and sent to a loving home.
      There are a LOT of mills and back-yard breeders, and it is absolutely cruel and wrong how they breed their females until they absolutely can’t be bred anymore. But in most cases greyhounds and whippets aren’t apart of that, at least not in the United States, simply for the fact that they are not a breed that is as profitable as a lot of other breeds.
