  • Here's the next episode of Three-For-All with 3 Nuno Bettencourt Licks From 1987. I've featured Nuno in several lessons on the LNL channel, including a Breaking Chords episode, a Three-For-All lesson, and even 'The Chords Of Extreme' Chordplay lesson, so we've looked at some of Nuno's moves before, but this time we're going back even further in his career, to snag some licks from an early bootleg featuring Extreme rocking out in Portugal in 1987.
The licks and ideas shared in this lesson include a phrase featuring some of Nuno's ultra-expressive melodic string-bending, a slick major 7th arpeggio idea, a wicked open-string unison phrase using legato, and more! Needless to say, if you're looking for some slick licks to add to your arsenal - look no further than Nuno Bettencourt.
There's something for everyone hiding in this lesson as there's a wealth of ideas coming from Nuno's nimble fingers, so give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

Extreme was accually formed in 1980. We were called the Dream. I formed the band with my cousin Ed Goulart, Gary Cherone and Paul Geary. We sold the name in 1985 to a production company in L.A. and changed the name to Extreme (X Dream). Nuno replaced me in 1986.
Look it up on wikipedia. There is also a vid on youtube confirming this, I'll post a link.
Love your channel , I thought I'd set the record straight.

I grew up in that period and only fringe group of guitarists knew who Paul Gilbert was even when he was in Mr. Big not many people knew anything about him. So many guitarist from this era failed to reach critical acclaim outside of the guitar community and Nuno is one of those players. His playing is world class. While the band will forever be linked to the two “power ballads”, they are so much more than that. Never had the chance to see him play live in person, but would if I could. ... another exceptional lesson !!!

Awesome Dave! I love Nuno, I remember going to see Extreme in Boston before they were big and my friends and I wondered why they wern't big at the time... about 6 months later they were huge! Since I'm from Boston it was really cool seeing that. Aerosmith has been big since I was born, I was born in '75. But I always thought they were a little poppy. I love some of there tunes, but they just have a pop feeling to me. Then Extreme hit and that was huge for me being a young guitar player at the time. I never made it big lol, but then Godsmack broke out and they used to jam in Haverhill, a town about 10 miles from me, they had that hard edge that was cool to jam along with. (even though I asked you for Jerry Garcia a few times... I just like all music) I still more than ever love 80's shred rock, and Nuno is one of the best!! As always thank you much for the lesson bro, 🎸🎸👍

I certainly don't have the skills to replicate those licks, but it's really interesting to watch and I'm just learning to watch it. I totally agree, the first album is not very popular, even by Extreme fans, and yet I find it so fleshed out and already so rich. It's a really great album. Personally, I love WFTPL because it's so raw, but all of the Extreme albums are just awesome. And Nuno's projects outside of Extreme are equally fabulous. In short, Nuno is a genius, but we already knew that, right? Thank you very much for your video, I loved watching it and I really like your way of explaining things.
