Thanks a lot guys. My bud and I spent a few hours trying to get that slidy part behind the cab to slide in following the instructions book which was not good. Nearly gave up until we saw this video and to slide it in first. Which got the whole thing done in 20m after. 🙌
Great video! It helped me a ton! I'd like to add a little to it. I installed mine yesterday. I noticed immediately how short it was, and going by the measurements I had about an 1/8th inch gap at my tailgate to the seal on rear bar. I also noticed it didn't seem tight enough, the side covers had a ton of excess overlap on the rear of velcro, and just didn't seem to fit right overall. So experimenting today, I loosened everything up, the panels, rear window, brackets, and set screws that hold side rails together. I spread the side rails as far as I could where all 4 set screws would still grab, and then tightened it all back down and put panels back in. Now, everything actually fits as it should!!! Perfect as far as bed length, side panels, no gap at rear bar, and everything is tight! Looks great!! Bestop needs to lengthen the side rails an inch or 2 so we don't have to do this ourselves. Just need to add some foam under the gap where I split them and all will be good!
Crappiest video on TH-cam... Notice how they do not show how to install the rear bar above the tailgate? Because its a junk piece of shit topper, that's why...
Hi Jesse!!! The best top just gives the truck a whole different look!!! I soo agree on reading all of the instructions Lolol!!! I have so many Allen wrenches it seems that everything I get calls for that tool Lolol!!! Ooh I was wondering how the brackets or clamps were going to be attached!!! Lolol get your grandma, brother to help put it together that was funny Lolol!!! What I really liked was that you didn’t have to drill into the truck at all!!! The rail made it a easy install!!! It made a lot of sense to have Velcro inside!!! I like how easy it was to install the third brake light and how easy you tucked away the wiring from the third brake light!!! You are soo detailed Jesse and you really make sure that we completely understand each step by step!!! Ooh okay it’s required that you have to have a third break light!!! Thanks for this. What you did at about the 9 minute mark with sliding it into the channel along the truck cab was very helpful. My instructions tell me to take the front rail off to do this. I thought that was pretty dumb considering I just installed the front rail. Your method was different than the instructions and much better. Doing this now! Thanks so much!

You guys made this look easy. I installed mine a year ago, and it was a pain in the arse. To this day, if I go to put the topper back up I can barely get the clips back into the rails.
Wow these definitely looks more sturdy then my softtopper rail and bars. Maybe I should have went with the best top. Thanks for making this video. I’ll probably get one after my soft topper wares out lol

For bestop this soft top is this the super tops for trucks 1st gen or is this the supertops for trucks 2nd gen which is the one I have been waiting for. How high above the cab does this soft top sit at? Also does it come with blacked out side panels or Windows. Thanks for all the info on your videos, I should be getting a front grill and head lights from tacoma beast thanks to you.
Hey my friend, and this one I believe also fitsthe second gens I just searched it up on there website (in description box I left a link) and it looks like it’s even cheaper then the one for the 3rd gen so that’s an upside lol, it sits basically flush with the cab I believe it comes with no windows like the one I have but if u want the windows option it’s an additional cost, thanks my friend :)!!! I really do appreciate all the support I can get so really thank you!!!, if u have any questions let me know :)

I had no experience took me about 4hours just myself. With my bestop soft with wi dow bed toppers. And I also have american Tonneau hard truck bed cover, but dont know what to do with it any more. Because I love using my bestop bigger space.
QUESTION: do you think they will have something like that combine soft bed topper and hard truck bed cover? It's hard for me to switch all the time

Sooo when you install the brake light and you want to collapse the canopy...is there enough slack in the wiring to allow it to collapse?
The connection has a disconnect so whenever u do that it’s a quick disconnect thata easy access

Nice write up video Jesse! I am mid-stream through my install and noticed that if I follow the installation instructions to the word, I am left with a ~1/4" gap at the middle of the rear bar where it meets the tailgate. Did you experience this? I imagine I can shift the entire base but that might cause other fitment issues elsewhere. Just wondering if you had to deal with this. Thanks!
I’ve installed a couple and all were good besides one of my friends I did notice Gus was a tiny bit smaller i played with all the bars to get it as best as possible but I would try and email Bestop to see if that’s correct maybe send them pictures I told my friend to do the same thing

Thanks for uploading the install video. Went on their website and it seems to only fit 2005-2017 Tacomas. So not for 2018 yet? Been looking for a bed softop and it looks like Softoppers are the only brand that makes softops for 2018’s.
Hey my friend if I’m not mistaken it should still fit my truck is a 2018 and it fit on mine :) I want to say even on the instructions it said up to 2017 but the bed of the truck hasn’t changed for 2018 so I’m guessing that’s why it fit but yea I would just send them an email to confirm but it fit mine if that helps 👍

I plan on using a topper like this to camp in. How well does it hold up to water?
It holds up good I’ve slept in it in super cold weather (it does get cold in there lol) and also in the summer and in rain
Dude. I cannot get the hex head bolt to meet up with the top clamp. The angles are way off. Really frustrating
Just try to keep readjusting mine was fine but I had installed one of my friends bestop and I had the same issue :/ I had to keep trying and trying until I got it shit was wierd lol

Chris G yea it’s as close as u can get with the tacomas to put 33s if u go with 35s that’s when u have to start doing more custom work and just a lot more stuff needs to be done to be fully functional on anything bigger then a 33 n u welcome 👍

When do you stick the double sided tape on the rails ?
I never did so if I wanted to remove it from time to time I could if u plan on letting it sit for a while then yes remove when adding the rails
Daaang..I bought a softopper and just got it today..it doesn't have a 3rd brake light but and no side windows..that wasn't even an option..I did get the rear mesh window for my 🐕. Also noticed after the purchase that the bestop comes with a 5yr warranty and softopper only 1yr😭😭. I went for softopper because I it came in tan and bestop only comes in black

You can still drive around with the side walls off can you? And the back vinyl window off as well? I want to use it mainly for sunshade for my dogs. a camper hard shell is too permanent for my taste. This looks like a better option. Too bad it doesn’t have vinyl side windows. Why is that? You needed to show more video of it on your truck and how it looks driving down the road etc. I wanna see if it starts flapping anywhere on it on the highway.
I wouldn’t recommend it but I have lol but not at highway speeds I take my dog to the dog park so I just take the windows off from my house to the dog park and back but that’s like 25-35mph and it kinda flaps so not sure how safe it is but I’ve been doing it lol, and if I’m not mistaken u can purchase the side windows for an extra fee I like mine without the side windows but I believe u can get them n yea I agree I like with this one I can always remove it by my self or just fold it

I just installed mines and its such a pain in the ass doing it bymyself especially in the dark. I have a gap near the tail gate is that supposed to be completely sealed? I feel like if i move it to close to the tail gate itll make leave a gap near the cab....
Shouldn’t be a huge gap but it’s a tight fit
I just got mine. I noticed something with the side rails. When I fasten the 4 set screw to assemble each side rail the longer part of the rail bowed out a little on both rails. I told customer service and she said it’s normal. Has anyone noticed the side rails not being straight?!?! Please anyone respond if they saw or experienced this

I’ve had it on for two weeks so far I like it, but yea I can’t wait to see the long run 🤔 when I make the review video I’m sure it’ll have gone threw those tests I also want to of course camp inside of it and try that out lol

Does this topper still sit higher than the cab? I know the regular bestop sits higher on the 3rd gens.

Yes it does you unzip the rear window and just pull out the bar across it’s easy 👍

Matthew George just the connection I showed that I tucked underneath the bed rail in between where my cb wires are ran threw just that connection

I have a new Bestop on my 2019 F 150, it leeks when it rains ! I'm not impressed!
If the material it self leaks I would contact them but as far as the surrounding areas the bestop is not meant to be 100 percent leak proof from the sides your bed itself has cracks in it also in the tailgate so water can seep in from there but like I said if the material itself is leaking then it’s faulty
When camping and sleeping in back can you open the back window from inside the bed?

I just called Supertop and they said this exact model fits the 2nd gens as well. Were they wrong?? They said the bed size is all that matters.
