This run will definitely be beaten at some point, even I could have shaved 90 seconds off by not being a complete dummy. But I will admit I got extremely lucky in this run!
Like Blair said, and also there was a fight close to that I wasted 10 seconds deciding whether or not to whirlwind. I accidentally used bottled lightning on a defend, some decisions were just slow in general. It doesn't really matter now, in the next update they've made fast mode even faster, and I've tested it in beta. I had a bad run and almost beat this time pretty easily, it's crazy fast.
Just completed my first run in 1 hour 59 minutes and 32 seconds... I'm a little under the world record I guess. That said, it was a Silent run with a Poison/Block strategy. You're pretty much guaranteed to take long on that strategy.
Bottled Lightning makes a chosen skill 'Innate', meaning it will always show up in your starting hand. He accidentally clicked through the relic into a Defend at 4:09, which should've been his upgraded Flex instead. Had he not made that mistake his first turns would've probably been a lot smoother from then on.
I'm looking forward to the release of the third character, definitely going to try speedrunning it. I hate pretty much everything about the silent, so I only really play Ironclad.
jimquisitive The thing with speed running the Silent is that he doesn't have this "easy to come by" strength set up. As Ironclad you have Flex and Inflame, so you can play single cards that hit hard which ends the turn fast and really makes speedrunning easier. The Silent usually plays 10+ cards per turn lategame, which is just really slow. Of course one can speedrun as the Silent but it wouldn't get anywhere close to the time of the Ironclad.
Could have saved a second or two.the battle right before donu and deca could have played thunderclap then whirlwind saving some animation time and saving more time (yes it is very small amount but everything counts in this world)
well not sure about the whole speed run an rng game, no base line to measure. Sure he went fast, with that deck, that map layout, that dice roll on rng cards, that ? plays, that ect.
What about an Ascension 15 speedrun? I've tried some of the aggressive stuff runners do in Ascension, but I just end up getting thrashed by the higher damage. Not to say this isn't impressive, it certainly is!
That implies I've unlocked 15! I don't play much ascension, only on 7 with ironclad, but once I get there I'll definitely try it. For the moment, however, I don't like how slow the game is when I'm not speed running.
jimquisitive That's fair; I was mostly wondering if it's even possible to use the current whirlwind strategies on higher difficulty. Thanks for the reply!
stupid question.. the video title says 9:22 the official leaderboard 9:26. is the ingame clock off, or why isnt the speedrun community using the ingame stopwatch?
they were using ingame clock in some games like pokemon but since it showed only minutes and not seconds like 0:59 min , two people that had the same 0:59 usualy tied. But one could have had 0:59:59 and one 0:59:01... so they implemented manual timer like this one... (sry english)
When you view any record on Speedrun.com, it'll tell you when the record was made. Those who delve into speedrunning a lot will be aware of any tweaks or patches that could affect speedrunning time, so that'll be taken into consideration. Given the random nature of the game, it would take quite a big tweak or patch to invalidate older runs or require a "patch #X" marker on older runs, something like a new boss beyond the heart to fight, bigger floors, things that might considerably increase or decrease how long a run should take. What's more, on the Speedrun website, many updated games (eg. Binding of Isaac) have a filter you can set based on the version number when each run was completed. So those who are particularly picky can say they have the fastest speed "on Patch #X".
thanks for answering, learned a lot from that. I think this game is going under some really big changes, considering they tweak cost a lot and that plays a huge factor into what happens on a turn, but what you said makes that still stand to reason/work out, I just wasn't aware that it can be valid with those parameters.
Yep! The latest update introduced fast mode. All animations are sped up. Its a box in the options. Also, I make sure the game is set to 240fps in the settings menu, as this speeds up some animations too, such as whirlwind.
any% is defined as completing the game in the fastest possible way the game allows. since fast mode is not considered a cheat, just a faster way of playing, from this point on all any% runs are most likely going to be in fast mode because theres no reason not to
Christopher Castle oh ok then. I got confused because i watched another speedrun vid of this game witch said "currend WR" and i thout that any% and fast% are diffrent.
oh yeah gotcha, the fast mode was like just added so now that it's in the game that should be the new standard, other guy probably just hadnt updated his title
To add some clarity, due to the ruling over on speedrun.com, we have two separate categories for fast mode and normal. At least for the moment, anyway. I have the current WR in Fast Mode Any%, and eklasainlol has the WR for Any%. Hope this helps clear things up!
If I knew why I made every mistake in the run I'd probably be the best speedrunner in the world haha. But in that case I just had a stupid moment. i was trying to work out how much damage I'd take, and whether it was worth it. All I had to do was do 3x13 and realise I'd take 9 damage, but I just froze. If I had to say it would most likely be because it was done at 3am!
I hate to break it to you, but they keep making fast mode faster with each update. I did a run on the beta branch with the new fast mode, and got a similar time to this run with a bad deck and not really trying that hard. Sub 5 is going to be on the horizon I think!
Not sure if you're looking for a real answer to this, but why not. It definitely doesn't need a nerf, in my opinion. The setup I had in this run only comes about once in every 30 runs or so at least. It's so rare to have an 8 energy double tap necro flex whirlwind that I think it's justified.
Whirlwind is fine because it spends all your energy. A strength build is common to run Whirlwind and either Heavy Blade or Sword Boomerang for single target but this was a rare moment where he had 6 energy per turn without any cards to boost as well as the Necronomicon which is rare in itself
Feinne It is not a regular option since you have Cleave and potentially Sword Boomerang, even Immolate as AoE that doesn't basically end your turn. The only deck where Whirlwind is a must is something like a Strength/Energy deck. On a side note, if you actually play a Strength deck, Sword Boomerang will often times do more damage than Heavy Blade when it comes to hitting a single enemy, like a boss.
I have plenty of VODs on Twitch if you want to see talking. But watch almost any speedrun of a quick game and people won't be saying anything. I also have neighbours, and being 3am I didn't want to talk loudly. However, just after this video ends I'm pretty sure I said something along the lines of "wow, I didn't say a single thing during that run"!
Yeah the guys that run agdq are great, they've also probably been streaming for more than 3 weeks, and aren't going for the world record :p I'm sure I'll get to a point eventually where I'm able to really through it though, as I agree. It's a lot more interesting with commentary. This game just takes a lot of concentration!
that sweet unlucky bottle though :)
That necronomicon pickup was disgusting lol
I love seeing how the relief and endorphins from what he accomplished last for a full 40 seconds...and then "hmm, can I go any faster?" Humanity.
I'm coming for ya. PB is 9:32. But damn man that book helped you out a ridiculous amount.
I don't think anyone will ever beat that.... Perfect storm situation!
This run will definitely be beaten at some point, even I could have shaved 90 seconds off by not being a complete dummy. But I will admit I got extremely lucky in this run!
jimquisitive Where would you have saved that time?
dexms4 by not thinking as long on removing a strike at a shop, finding the fastest route through the map.
My runs usually take 50 minutes to 1hour xD...
you are not alone =)
Just completed my first run in 1 hour 59 minutes and 32 seconds... I'm a little under the world record I guess.
That said, it was a Silent run with a Poison/Block strategy. You're pretty much guaranteed to take long on that strategy.
That Necro double tap on donu & Deca was beautiful
That Bottled Lightning hurt my soul.
Trust me, I know how you feel... It was painful.
Fr0zenEagle what does it do?
Bottled Lightning makes a chosen skill 'Innate', meaning it will always show up in your starting hand. He accidentally clicked through the relic into a Defend at 4:09, which should've been his upgraded Flex instead. Had he not made that mistake his first turns would've probably been a lot smoother from then on.
You can see and hear from his reaction that he immediately realized the mistake he made, too.
If we could stop reliving this moment over and over that'd be great... It's still too recent.
double tapomicon !!!! strong AF
look at all dem relics
yay another whirlwind run.
great run! But I thing we can all agree, none will ever beat that 0:00 guy
GG man! Some amazing relics!
Yeah the whole run was a collection of great RNG
Meanwhile I've only beaten the game once in my 50+ hours of playing it..
Good work, amazing
That was crazy.
Awesome run! =D
what a beast
That feeling when your fastest run is just over an hour...
Gg deserved man
what does the scouter say about his power level?
That's really impressive, at first I questioned your logic not taking Apotheosis, but then I realised all your important cards were already upgraded.
You never take apotheosis in a speed run. It is trash in speed runs.
gulgaffel yeah, that's also true I suppose.
Well someone just went sub 7 minutes today. Good luck beating that one...
Got a 7:45 couple of days ago. Sub 5 is possible with perfect RNG, sub 7 shouldn't be hard to beat honestly.
Congrats! Keep it up, soon you'll have sub 5 at this rate ;P
That's the plan!
Wow! Well done!
Cheers! Thanks for watching.
This was amazing man! Just wish you had chatted a bit during
I wonder how much the third character will affect speedrunners
I'm looking forward to the release of the third character, definitely going to try speedrunning it. I hate pretty much everything about the silent, so I only really play Ironclad.

8! 8 freaking energy XD
Can someone explain what the book did for him?
Which allowed him to get triple 8x8 damage whirlwinds with double tap
Oliver Tomkinson
Quadruple after he upgraded double tap.
Ayrat Khalikov No, upgraded double tap doubles the next two attacks, not triples the next one.
Nonchalantly triple whirlwind.
Nice run. This could’ve been a sub 9 run had you not lag at the shop and whirlwind
Ah yes, dead silence
Clearly second place, just not good enough to get 0:00:00. /s
Could have saved a second or two.the battle right before donu and deca could have played thunderclap then whirlwind saving some animation time and saving more time (yes it is very small amount but everything counts in this world)
Mack Henley put on
wow, very nice run!
btw, does the Du-Vu Doll relic (+1 str for every curse in your deck) synergise with the necro-book?
ehehe fhehe y
well not sure about the whole speed run an rng game, no base line to measure.
Sure he went fast, with that deck, that map layout, that dice roll on rng cards, that ? plays, that ect.
Cool.
speed running is more about luck than anything
thats very fast
What about an Ascension 15 speedrun? I've tried some of the aggressive stuff runners do in Ascension, but I just end up getting thrashed by the higher damage. Not to say this isn't impressive, it certainly is!

sooo how about a speedrun ... yeah i just take Whirlwind and cut ennemy to pieces...
stupid question.. the video title says 9:22 the official leaderboard 9:26. is the ingame clock off, or why isnt the speedrun community using the ingame stopwatch?

oh ok tyvm
this is still in early access, how can this be eligible for a world record when the game is still constantly under tweaking and refinement?
When you view any record on Speedrun.com, it'll tell you when the record was made. Those who delve into speedrunning a lot will be aware of any tweaks or patches that could affect speedrunning time, so that'll be taken into consideration. wow
is there a way to speed up animations? your game seems to be a faster

Smooth bald demon profile pic there btw.
lionDemon1 lionDemon2
lionDemon3 lionDemon4
bald demon :)
Wow
are any% and fast% diffrent categorys??

jimquisitive thanks mate.
This never shuts up
Nice, but why the hesitation at 8:21?
If I knew why I made every mistake in the run I'd probably be the best speedrunner in the world haha.

Sub 5 is going to be on the horizon I think!
Well shit. These runs are just gonna get more and more insane I guess.
This is sped up 100%
It's fast mode, of course it's sped up
Ok, makes sense, i retract my claim
it's sped up from fast mode and you're slowed down in ya head son.
read all the comments before judging pls. I retracted my claim, ya dum dum.
i already saw all the comments, still decided you're slow for not realizing initially he was using fast mode.
Lol
nerf whirlwind?
Not sure if you're looking for a real answer to this, but why not.
It definitely doesn't need a nerf, in my opinion. The setup I had in this run only comes about once in every 30 runs or so at least. It's so rare to have an 8 energy double tap necro flex whirlwind that I think it's justified.

Should really talk or say anything really. Good run but boring af from a commentary stand point. ResidentSleeper
ppl rarely talk on speed runs, especially in such short games :) it disctracts
I have plenty of VODs on Twitch if you want to see talking. But watch almost any speedrun of a quick game and people won't be saying anything. I also have neighbours, and being 3am I didn't want to talk loudly.
However, just after this video ends I'm pretty sure I said something along the lines of "wow, I didn't say a single thing during that run"!
TBH ive just been spam watching all the AGDQ runs i missed and the commentary spoiled me.
Yeah the guys that run agdq are great, they've also probably been streaming for more than 3 weeks, and aren't going for the world record :p
I'm sure I'll get to a point eventually where I'm able to really through it though, as I agree. It's a lot more interesting with commentary. This game just takes a lot of concentration!
Moron.
