@@m-w-y7325 as a Necron Player, everything this person has said about Szeras is 100% correct. I believe there was an instant once, where Anrakyr the Traveler was working with him, effectively loaning Anrakyr some beefed up Immortals. Szeras made a demand of Anrakyr after the battle for some captives, but the Immortals he’d loaned had gone beyond what Anrakyr had wanted them to do, and when Anrakyr tried to reprimand Szeras for the incident, Szeras waved the whole thing off, clearly not caring one jot about overstepping his bounds and thus disrespecting Anrakyr’s authority. In response to this, Anrakyr had the captives Szeras wanted for his experiments, executed right there and then, and walked off like a boss without another word.
Needless to say, Szeras and his Immortals were not at the next battle.
Let me get this straight: so this one lonely Deathmark is fighting one Firedrake elite Salamander, one slightly mental but still lethal Sister of Battle, one horde of zombies created by his boss, plus his boss constantly tries to Facetime him through his eyeball💀💀💀, asking him why the Salamander and the Sister aren't dead and telling you he doesn't care about the zombie problem. This Deathmark really can't catch a break.
Wtf Szeras you can just wake up a squad of three Deathmarks and tie up all of these loose ends.

@@Vamsell Search for Imperial Armour Volume 10 The Badab War Part 2 (free PDF online). Jump to the Salamander chapter. There's a picture of a Firedrake Terminator that reads "Veteran Terminator Brother Sa'kan, Firedrake and Protector of The Promethian Cult".
Now there could be two different Salamanders that named Sa'kan. But I think it's reasonable also to believe that there's just one Sa'kan, and this is him.

Szeras basically hired the world's best neurosurgeon and told him to saw a tree in half. Sure, the guy is renowned for his ability to cut things, but there's a time and a place.
Plus, you're doing that while the guy who carries his custom Woodhacker 50000 everywhere he goes, and spends all his time not sawing trees in half wishing he had more trees to saw in half, standing right next to the surgeon.

I am curious if anyone knows, why did the zombies attack the death mark? Is the thing controlling them just on a ‘kill everything’ command or something?
@@insaneyoohooMore than likely, considering how nonchalant Szeras is about their presence and how they are more or less literal human garbage, he probably instilled a "attack anything." basic command to tie down imperial survivors, and fully expecting his warriors or the destroyers to be more than capable of handling them. A lone deathmark however is the unaccounted for case of "Overspecialized failing to massed problem" kind of matchup that Szeras more than likely didn't care to consider.

Either by having artificially created Necrontyr bodies or by replacing the minds of another species with that of a Necrons.
He probably tried to look into if the human body is compatible with the Necron mind, e.g at the beginning expierement.
I would guess he cut out parts of the mind of the people or replaced them with basic Necron ones and the Humans function on a pretty much lobotomized level with varying degree of mentall activity - as can be seen after the crash when the Zombie Guard attacke Sa'kan, one of them pleaded him to be killed.
Which would explain why they attacked the Deathmark with such ferocity - especially the Kriegsman who ran after him preventing his escape
They were a victim of the stilling, not mindshackle scarabs. Basically this is what happens to people when the necron pylons activates its warp nullifying mode, reducing the souls of the locals into hopeless drones

I love the Deathmark's little panicked run as he tries to reach the portal.
I would say less panicked, more pissed. I mean, imagine you are just trying to make a get away and then your blankets decided to keep you in bed when you need to go to a party you been looking forward to forever. Sure there is a LOT of zombies, but without any weapons capable of hurting a necron they are essentially just blanketting him.

@@theterribleanimator1793 Humans can be pretty strong when they don't have anything preventing the maximal use of their muscles. Most of the damage done appeared to be by forcible hyperextension of the joints and by ripping out loose cables/pipes, which seems a reasonable extrapolation of what would happen if a robot (even an particularly durable one) were swarmed by dozens of people all clawing at any potential handhold/weakness. Also, iirc, necrodermis is not particularly *hard*, so it wouldn't be as difficult as trying to, say, rend steel with one's bare hands.

Szeras is literally the WORST kind of overbearing micromanaging boss. He gets pissed that things take to long and best of al his fucking pet projects that he left half finished fuck up YOUR project and he is the one that acts inconvenienced.
It’s always the bosses that fail the most that hate when their underlings can’t compete impossible tasks (that said bosses failures directly hamper more often than not).
Isn't that his crucial flaw though? He has endless contingencies but never thinks that once he's chosen a plan it can ever fail because he's too brilliant?

Anyone else get the feeling that Szery wants the deathmark to fail?
Not just the task he has given, but the attitude he shows whenever interacting with the deathmark. This is an individual that sets you up for failure, just so they can get a thrill when they blame you for the end result. However - it embodies the egotistical nature of a Necron lord very well.
It wouldn't be surprising if he was using the deathmark as a means to further his studies by seeing how the survivors adapt against certain variables that he introduces. It would explain why he bothered to converse with Sa'kan at the end of the 3rd episode.
Death marks are also universally despised by necron dynasty’s. So losing one wouldn’t be a problem for him.

Then tricked by Deceiver, lost their souls/bodies, lost the War In heaven. And now they woke up and saw all these primitive aliens on their lawn.

The one downside of the necrons is that they're too damn spiteful and petty. Alright, let's say Szeras still needs the precision of a deathmark. Fine, send him in then, but can't you at least spare a couple destroyer or pair him up. You can even order the destroyer to stay on standby just to protect the deathmark if something like this happens.
Realistically, the Necrons would wipe every single faction in 40k if only they can just stop being so damn stubborn and act as logical as they think they are 💀
With how he referred to the Deathmark as "your kind" when saying he didn't want to wake another up, someone else here had the idea that he simply wanted to test the remaining survivors at how effectively they do against a Deathmark.
Necrons as units lore wise are too strong (at least as strong as Krork and prime Eldar faction combined) and usually they have to make them "stupid" or making them face bad or at least "balanced" odds instead of the curbstomp that should happen if necrons arent tied up by the narrative most of the time
@@masterblaster5186they're strong, but not super strong, they still die by basic weapons like bolters and even meltas, sometimes lasgun CAN kill them. But factions like the imperium are practically very capable of fighting them by supreme tactics and constant persistence, which they never had to deal with like the Eldar or Kroks.
@@vothbetilia4862 they had to deal that with the war in heaven, fucking several races at once. Nekrons fully powered up win at attrition warfare cause of their never dying and always regenerating bodies. But yeah, they are nerfed till they are unified and properly organized
@@markobucevic8991 yes but they bickered with eachother during the war heaven and didn't exactly achieve anything other then planets blowing up left and right. Also the generating bodies is over exaggerated because the reanimation protocol doesn't always work and it's because both the monolith and the necron itself don't function properly whether it's destroyed or badly maintained.
Plus don't act like the imperium hasn't done attrition warfare, when practically every army they have specialized pretty much anything and not just one criteria. And by army I don't mean just regiments, but factions inside the imperium.

Honestly, Szeras might be the worst Necron out there. Between all the horrible shit he pulls in his experiments and the way he treats his employees, he's certainly in the running.
Typical upper management. Causing problems for the employee and them blaming them for not reacting.
I'd like to point out Szeras literally created the Necron race as Warhammer 40k knows them. The C'tan gave him the knowledge of transference, but this dude MADE THE NECRON WAR MACHINE. He had Necrontyr peasants' limbs broken and then they were forced into the soul forges.
It does bear mentioning that I believe literally no one likes him. Not one Necron actually wants to interact with Szeras, but he is very smart, so they are occasionally forced to do so.

@@skebaba918To be fair, they where both Necron lords, while this is a Necron equivalent to a sniper. He also slight spoiler, does eventually kill all the guardsman in hand to hand, it just takes for ever and he is badly damaged.
Honestly my biggest issue with this scene. Necron Deathmarks might not have the strength of a space marine, but they sure as shit should be stronger than a human. He should have kept going when the zombie guard grabbed his arm.
The feeling when a Guardsmen infantry squad manages to tie up a unit of Deathmarks and neither can really kill each other well in melee

Even as a bunch of brain washed zombies they still do the Emperors work. If they know what they are doing that is. I’m sure the Kriegers and Cadians can take a bit of happiness from this little encounter if they do
most of them do know what they are doing, but the Mind Shackle Scarab just overrides their brain and forces their body to move and do things against their will

They might attack whatever they see, but if they see a human and a necron they might just be able to force their bodies 1 step closer to the necron over the human

My favorite thing about Szeras, he's so smart yet so aware of it, that he always tends to go full round to being outright stupid.

It makes him look like he is doing an angry face.
Remember the lesson learned from the siege of Terra. Even an Astartes can be dragged down and torn apart by a hundred unarmed civilians if they're dedicated enough.

Easily my favourite episode. Seeing a deathmark fighting zombies was something I didn’t think I’d ever see. The bit where he talks to himself and is terse with Szeras is nice; they hit the mark with the level of intellect I imagined deathmarks retaining and their character (above immortals but just below lychguard). That being said, hands damaging necrodermis and a single human being able to restrain a Necron in an immortal-class chassis is bull since they’re at least as strong as as armoured astartes (in the Damnos book an immortal strangles a sergeant near to death with one hand before he’s saved). A synaptic disintegrator severing a piece is rebar is a little out of narrative as well.
in the Damnos book the sergeant is saved by a average dude who's given up on life with a bog standard bayonet.. 🤣

The zombie was unable to restrain him but hindered him long enough for more to pile on the deathmark, before he was able to teleport away. Individually a human would lose easily even in melee, but dont underestimate the power of throwing enough bodies at something

I like how every time the Deathmark fires at something and misses, he recoils in what appears to be shock. Like "I missed? I'm not supposed to miss!"
They really did say that Phaerons and the upper ilk have a tendency to ramble and squander their advantages constantly 😅
Deathmark: fast enough to dodge Ultramarine with chainsword.
Also Deathmark: slower than zombie guardsman.
To be fair it can be argued that he already had a portal charged up and was ready for the Ultramarine who was running at him from a pretty hefty distance, he did NOT expect a bunch of tumbling zombies to interrupt him while he's also in the middle of a firefight.
That same one is now under attack by an enhanced giant green man, an overly devoted nun, and a distracting berating boss, all while being suddenly surrounded by mind-controlled people. Of course, it'll eventually have a slip-up.
I think it is heavily hinted that his body and weapon are not working correctly. Misfire is an obvious give away but also strength issue. We can assume that Szeras baited Deathmark with insufficient time and power for testing purposes.
to be fair, this is a sniper that got engaged by an unrelated horde while they were alrerady in the middle of a firefight while at the same time having your CO breathing down your neck demanding updates and further exposing you(as well Sakan hit the hologram implying others can see it too).
in fact it was probably Szeras's call that 1st alerted the horde toward the Deathmark.
He didn't get distracted by his boss in the previous encounter. The deathmark could win if szeras wasnt being a dick.

Fun Fact, the synaptic disintegrators that deathmarks use are special in that each shot is an individual hecatic command made by a cryptek, which essentially "commands" the brain of whatever has been hit to "turn off". For beings like orks it can be as simple as "this mind has stopped" but for more complex creatures with greater willpower a more intricate, specific command is needed.
While this suits a deathmark in their typical role perfectly, you can see how the one here could run out of "ammo" and further appreciate how wasteful it is for them to be using these shots on what are essentially zombies.
Even in death, they still serve the God-Emperor!

Dude szeras did this on purpose and did the death mark dirty. Let's be real he did fantastic for being 1 soilder and fighting everything he did and still almost coming out on top. I feel this would have been diffrent with a legit squad of marks.
Would have been different if his damn gun didn't misfire, lmao. That mass of tombs Szeryboi is sitting in needs to get a serious refresh and refurbish on its standing wargear.
AND this right here is why Necron's often don't really accomplish much. The higher-ups are almost always max level petty, spiteful and full of unfounded pride. I love the genuine frustration in the Deathmark's voice too like he is just done with Szeras's shit.

Deathmark seems so physically weak when fighting those zombies. I would expect Necron could throw average human body away with one hand without too much trouble. After all they are robots.
They have few enhancements thanks to szeras' experiments.

In this scene the deathmark looks to be struggling with the zombies, in my mind i expected all necrons to be able to punch their way through normal humans. I suspect he is not fully maintaned, his weapon is faulty and his boss just wants him to fail to please his own ego after being talked by at the beginning.
Material strength still makes him immune to them
I assume also that the zombies would be as strong or stronger than someone extremely high on adrenaline because they don't have to worry about not tearing up their muscles apart (they will but who cares) so they can possibly do some crazy shit like bend metal from its hinge

Might be wishful thinking, but I think those corrupted human soldiers knew what they were doing, targeting the Deathmark like that. I think in some part of their damaged minds, they finally saw an opportunity to direct their involuntary actions against a Xenos scum.
They can see what they're doing, but they can't control their body because of the plague.

Szeras doesn’t want to admit also he’s focus on his goals. He likes conversations every once in awhile. He’s mostly just himself, testing. Listening to what ever the destroyers were thinking which are simplified kill all life.
Every shot of a deathmark is perfectly calibrated to disrupt neurologic pattern. An he has to waste them on guardsman.
