Sith Lightning is fueled by Sadism. This why Palpatine is a true master of it.
Or fun in the sack if you tone it down a bit.
Rey can do force lighting does that mean she will eventually be evil?
@@albundy7198 That just means the nincompoops at the Story Group don't understand Force abilities. She went from Pull to Lightning, directed at a ship she was trying to keep from escaping - ostensibly to rescue someone on board. Not only are those two completely different powers, but the motivation behind each is totally exclusive from the other.
Hes not a true master of it, if he was, it would be red like Darth Nihilus or The Brother
Given the sadistic nature of force lightning, it should have been red and been described as raw agony in energetic form. Would make it far more terrifying.
Luke's opinion on Sith Lightning is exactly on point take a look at Palpatine when he's in the Chancellor room after dispatching Mace thr satisfied groan he gives from being able to unleash decades worth of negative emotions onto Jedi without restraint, this act proves that when a Sith uses lightning nothing but their darkest impulses go into an ability that to the Sith has no purpose other than to inflict pain, suffering, or death on a target.
He groaned like he had just completed No Nut November
Luke Skywalker is arguably the best and most influential character in Star Wars. Unfortunately, Disney didn't respect the character 😕
ROLF! Right. A farmboy that went from kid moisture farmer and emo whine fest to destroying a death star using the force in a few hours. He's arguable right there with Jar Jar as the worst in Star Wars. And so much for Padawans needing to be taken from birth to learn the ways of the Jedi. Luke spends a couple days with Yoda as an adult and somehow becomes a Jedi Knight. It's beyond awful, it's unearned in the extreme and he's the original Mary Sue of the series. The only characters dumber are Jar Jar Binks and the idea that the planet of Naboo "democratically" elected a teenage "queen" to rule their world. Anything Star Wars outside of Andor and Rogue One is hot trash with maybe an exception for most of the Mandalorian and the better parts of Empire Strikes Back.

"Hey yo, the emperor shoots lightning from his hands and you can block it with your lightsaber"
Come on, they had time to say that.
Tutaminis is an extremely difficult technique. It’s not just point your lightsaber at the lightning. You have to use the force to funnel the lightning at the lightsaber, not just block it. And you have to use the force to augment your strength to hold your own. Even Mace Windu with decades of training and skills could just barely squeak by utilizing tutaminis to stop Sidious’s lightning. Luke, force prodigy though he was, couldn’t have learned such a top tier council level skill in the short amount of time he had with Yoda. That’s not what his training with Yoda was about.
@@Vyrall3606 Yep. And trying to use it is still a better plan than blocking it with your face. He had to perfect nearly all of his skills alone and "the emperor shoots lightning from his fingers" seems an obvious heads up to give. Because it is. The real reason there was no warning is likely because Lucas hadn't decided it could be done yet since Phantom Menace wasn't written until 1993.
Luke woulda still threw his lightsaber on the floor like a dumbass
Luke: I'm not afraid.
Yoda: You will be.
Yoda: YOU.. WILL.. BE.

Given what Yoda believed about Anger and Forgiveness, it makes sense that he was able to absorb Dookus Force Lightning.
Like he's so Enlightened that he can actually absorb his Anger and transmute it, or atleast and it back into the Force.
While this is true what you say, Yoda used force reflect or force absorb(something like that) where u can store the power inside and purify it and shoot it back.
But I like ur theory better
@roguexvampire I would say they are the same.
Because of Yodas' deep understanding, it helped make him capable of redirecting our absorbing Dookus "anger".
He wasn’t wheel chair bound for months. The novel ‘Truce at Bakura’ takes place immediately after RotJ and Luke required a hover chair and bacta for a few days. He’s still weakened for a little while afterwards but definitely not wheelchair blind for up to a year. He was fighting right away after RotJ.
wheelchair bound? he was standing right next to Lea and Han partying after the 2nd death star blew up
I was thinking the same thing. But that is "Canon" I think what was being said about that here is considered "Legends" which is just the non-George Lucas version of how things played out.
@@ecobasetech4558no ur backwards. Legends is pre Disney which is what this is
Cocaine is a hell of a drug
@@lolabrooke6986 yep I admit it. It made me misspell Leas name. It should have been 'Leia'
He basically suffered from heavy metal poisoning during the events of Truce at Bakura. The minerals in his body crystallized from the Force Lightning exposure and he was left sick and weak. It just took a few days to manifest due to his Jedi training granting him some measure of poison resistance.
I remember reading a prerequisite of learning how to use Sith Lightning is to experience it yourself. You must understand the pain of your body burning alive from the inside out and still desire to inflict that pain on others.
Which is why Dooku using it is a tough sell, as he seemed more misguided than straight up evil.
@@theguybehindyou4762 Yea, I can agree. Dooku never gave me a true evil feeling, like yea would cause absolute chaos when he needed to and was very powerful. I just kinda viewed him as an angry grandpa.
@@pricewilliamsAt the very least, he could have looked more Sithy in RotS, showing that he'd progressed further down that path. Just one more error on Lucas' part.
When you use the dark side, you take lifeforce from the universe. You use passion anger and hate, and you hurt the force. And it hurts you back, with the rage and pain of an entire galaxy.
The sith are able to defer this to a degree, one, by strictly using the Cosmic force, wherein the scales are vaster than minute to minute, the living dark side of the force is mostly what fallen jedi use whether or not they were cosmic usere in the Light. And two, the sith defer this with apathy and control of rage and greed. They feel it, act on it, use it against the force, but are not consumed, in a way channeling their emotion through themselves into the force without letting it settle overmuch. Not all at once at least. Hate will linger like a flow of swamp slime or magma. But they have success in the short term. Rather than giving emotion to the force like Jedi, Sith stab their anger out into it. Attacking, not surrendering, but pushing out all the same. They are after all a fallen jedi cult to begin with.
But more to the point of this video. When you use the dark side sheerly for pain. You are hurting the force, to hurt someone within the force, to remove the life ergo the force, from someone or thing. As seen by Sideous being so quickly disfigured by his own deflected lightning, it can very quickly backfire. Whereas neither Windu nor Luke was outwardly marked that fast, just hurt, the force twisted Palpatine, disfiguted and aged him greatly in the span of minutes.
Electric Judgement... it is an interesting thing Legends does honestly. I'm not sure how I feel. But it is energy and intent without viciousness. They are knights, not monks. Protection is the key I think.
that is why mastering Sith Lightning is so important. we all feel these emotions. such an ability would help us control those emotions.
01:18 - And sadistic joy no doubt 😈
Few other than Palpetine actually enjoyed torturing their underlings with it ⚡️
I believe Luke is one of the people that could have indeed have learned to deflect force lightning through his hands if he had learned about it since his force potential was so strong.
I actually think it is also because he is so deeply rooted in the light side of the Force.
It's a real shame that Disney ruins everything they touch, Star Wars included. The way they killed off Luke was just plain disrespectful to the lore, and this is just one example. Even the people that play these characters in the movies end up trashing them. I wish Lucas never gave it to them.
I was pissed in the theater as TLJ started bad and only got worse. Nobody wanted to see a “goofy Luke” drinking blue milk, pessimistic and looking filthy. Every characteristic of Luke was gone. I wanted to punt Rian Johnson.😂😂
Its my believe Lucas regrets the decision of sell it off to Disney. I can see in some respects why he did...A company like Disney can be a major player in the up keep and expansion of Star Wars...unfortunately Disney wrecked it so badly for social agendas and bad story lines...
@@enigmatic51me95 I think in one interview he did say he regrets it and i believe he does want to get it all the rights back. Hopefully one day he will be able to do so
They haven't completely ruined Star Wars. There's still plenty of good Star Wars stuff made by Disney.
@@Jedi-ge6lr I agree. While Disney did a poor job with the films, I did like Obi Wan (I know a lot of other folks did not and understand why. I just love Ewan). the Clone Wars, Rebels and Tales of the Jedi were decent. Ahsoka was ok. I also liked Andor, although I thought it started too slow.
Me thinking nights of old republic where their was a sith that literally consumed entire planets vs shooting lightning from your fingies. Hmm yeah totally more evil than nom noming an entire planet.
Which is more evil perma off cow and eat it or wrapping it in electrical fence and turning it on indefinetly?
And in Darth Nihiluses defense boi was hungry.
I think Luke was right about his stance on Sith lightning and was wise to learn Jedi version of ability but was wrong about worst dark side ability for there are much worse like what the Sith Emperor did to his own home world
Yeah, Sith lightning is kind and gentle compared to the thought bomb! 😱💀
I guess getting Force Lightning'ed does this to you
"I'm not gonna lie I am thinking of playing dead right now. Nope not gonna work at all as I literally cannot stop screaming." - Luke as he was getting force lightninged by Palpatine.
Another failure of Yoda. First the order and left Luke unprepared. That's how Sidious beat Yoda. You think he would at least tell him he could block it with a lightsaber. Or telling him why he was in exile. A failure by Obi wan for not telling him about Dooku and the force ability.
In the book, Luke does use tuteminis to fend off the lightning. He is just overpowered after a bit.
The movie really condenses it, and a lot of context/details get lost. Yoda did a good job preparing him with the little time he had.
He tried to give over a decade of training in a few weeks.
The out come would be the same even if he knew. Just knowing would not equal the depth of knowledge Sidious had. Also Yoda told him not to go BC he was not ready.
@@noahblevins9569. 5 weeks - 5 months of training in ESB, plus a year +/- of off and on training between ESB and RotJ.
@@kevinv2474. Wrong movie.
In Empire Strikes Back, Yoda told Luke not to run off to save his friends and face Vader because he wasn’t ready, because he had more to learn to become a Jedi and have a chance against Vader, let alone the Emperor.
In Return of the Jedi, Yoda said that Luke had learned all that he needed to know to become a Jedi Knight. The only thing left for Luke to do to actually be a JK was to confront and beat Vader, and only then would he be able to stand a chance against the Emperor. But the Emperor had foreseen that, so Luke would either have join him upon beating Vader or die. The Emperor believed that the boy would become too much of a threat to him to otherwise risk him leaving there alive.
@@eds1942 I didn't pick a movie, the Skywalker universe has a lot more than the movies. And I agree.
Wheelchair bound? He carried his dad across the Death Star, and was walking just fine down on the Endor lol
It's a misunderstanding; he tripped over one of the ewoks at the post-battle party and broke his hip. But I guess you could say The Emperor softened him up a bit, so it was partly caused by that
Confused if Luke was wheelchair bound how did he get off the Death Star and carry his father to the ship to get off the Death Star? Force adrenaline?!
He (Sidious) didn't say "You fool" he actually said "Young fool"
"Young fool", "Young Skywalker" - he says 'young' like it's a bad thing.
It’s curious that you could still use force lightning as Starkiller in the Force Unleashed. Even in the late game when he had completely turned against the Dark Side you could still mow down legions of Stormtroopers with lightning.
The light side can use force lightning, but they probably should have changed the color. Light-side lightning is yellow or green.

Hello stupendous wave im a big fan of your channel and its content i wanted to ask if you could make a in depth video about the force itself and what the Force is truly capable of and maybe make a video about the supreme maker.
That would make for a good one.
Great video!!
just about to rewatch star wars episode 4, and thought, what are the silver/grey things on chewies sash? has it ever been explained? couldn't find an answer on google/youtube,
So... apparently some things even the Force cant fix.. like PTSD...
Think in both EU and Canon. Its less the ability and more the user as once one LEARNED to use Force Lightning INCLUDING what Sith that later defected to the Lightside they STILL could use it. So... why then?? Something like ill intent or battle rage of some kind??? That an Yoda an Ben was particularly nieve even at the end. One should ALWAYS prepare a sent helping warrior for ALL of a shared arch enemy's MOST powerful and/or deadly abilities. An i think, Luke was quite a bit biased, not to mention in addition to his being nieve.
Ben and Yoda forgot to tell Luke to wear a Faraday suit.
I was in a Faraday cage once. I never will forget it. The Tesla coil was huge and just a few feet away. It let out bolts as big as Palpatine's. It hit the chicken wire just inches from me. Without the chicken wire, it would have killed me. Even though the cage protected me from danger, it felt weird, though. For the next 24 hours I had weird dreams and visions. It did not feel evil, but such a power could serve evil I suppose.
I will admit I always had a fascination for electricity. I had a plasma ball that was electricity you could touch and feel safely. In some forms, it is non lethal and even therapeutic. There are so many different kinds: AC, DC, differing frequencies, different amps, different voltages, etc., and one is surrounded by it all day long. It is the Force.
There is a neat trick you can do. Take two magnets and hold one in each hand such as they pull together. Slowly move your hands apart still feeling the pull between them. Focus deeply on that pulling sensation. Pull your hands apart to the absolute limit of your ability to feel the pull. After doing that you will feel energies everywhere. You will feel it emanate out of all your electronic gadgets. You will even feel it in living beings, like your cat for example.
This shows how strong vadar was when he got hit by it with the tech on
yeah that scene where Luke had to drag Vader along while stuck in that wheelchair was difficult to watch
Stupendous we are all still waiting for that Ulic Qel-Droma Bio and Power Scaling like you did with Count Dooku, Satelle Shan, Arcann, and Darth Marr you just released a video on Hazan so where is Ulic the guy who is equal to Exar Kun?
yes he is equal of Exar Kun. Exar kun is quite powerful.
Somebody was equal to Exar Kun ? Fascinating, ive heard the name of Ulic QD but dont know much.
Luke is right. Force Lightning is truly and abomination of the Force.
Love Legends Luke, his mastery of Emerald Lightning is so satisfying to read.
You know, the one funny thing about the Force Lightning is, that I can't recall a single instance of anyone being killed by it in canon. And there were a looooot of instance where it was used. Yet not a single time any named character died to it. Except Master Windu, but he most likely died to a fall. Sidious himself died when still sparkling with the lightning, but it was the fall and the explosion that killed him. And you could say Vader died to it, but does it really count, when he basically only died because it damaged his life support system of a suit that was specifically constructed to be weak to it?
From some no longer canon examples, Vader was hit by Force Lightning a lot of times in Force Unleashed. And ridiculous amounts of it as well.
Force Lightning was used merely as a torture, not a lethal weapon. And I have never seen in any Star Wars media any character saying anything od the sort that Force Lightning would do any kind of lasting damage to him. Not even psychological. Except again Palpatine himself. But that was likely caused by other factors affecting his body, like the toll of the dark side usage itself.
You know, on earth, we call it PTSD
Force lighting will mess you up.
I wonder if a Legends Luke might use Convection judiciously to start a camp fire.
Nihilus has entered the chat.
Of course in Legends Luke was able to use a light side variant of the ability called "Electric Judgement" where green lightning projected from his natural hand
Because he had the living crap zapped out of him with it. xD
Hell Yeah!
A retcon needs to be made where Anakin, after Obi-Wan leaves him to burn starts having Force Lightning shooting out of his severed arms around him. Showing his unrestrained hate, rage, and pain.
My question is how did force lightning come into existence if one of the requirements were to be struck by it
Day 7 of asking stupendous wave to make vs battles
Howdy!😊
So the celebration of the destruction of the second Death Star was months afterwards? Cause Luke could clearly get around during that celebration.
It's "Legends" vs "Canon". 2 slightly different versions for each.
Luke didn't suffer the worst of the after effects until the next morning. I think The Truce at Bakura covers the events the morning after the celebration.
Luke got cooked good and deep-like.
Didnt he read up on Plo Koons electric judgement?
Luke went right to bakura directly after the attack at endor in legends
You would think being electrocuted for that amount of time would’ve f***ed with his brain or body more than it did. I mean, he was electrocuted by the very scariest person there was. Then he lost his dad after dragging him out of an exploding superstation in space and flew a fighter out of a tight area where everything was on fire… That same night! After being zapped like that! Could you imagine the taste he must’ve had in his mouth after that? It. Does. Not. Seem. Very. Realistic. To. Me.
And to think the force lighting Darth Sidious used wasn’t even the full potential of the ability. When force lighting is used to its maximum effect it becomes red.
Luke was the true chosen one. he truly followed the force and it guided him revealing itself to him.
According to Darth Banes philosophy was concerned did this give Luke more light side power? Bane believed too many sith diluted the dark side. If Luke was one of the only light side weilders when Kenobi and Yoda died. Hard to believe Yoda didnt teach him how to absorb force lightning. Isnt that one of the first lessons at the temple. I cant spell TU-TE-MIN-US properly.
Luke knew that Love for his father is stronger than any Sith weapon! Thats why he threw his lightsaber away!
I've always likened sith lightning to avada kedavra from HP
True Sith Force Lightning is fueled by intent, to want to cause suffering and death
To be driven by hate
The act of channeling the Force ri become Lightning isn’t what’s criminal, as in legends there’s a Light Side variant called Electric Judgment used by Plo Koon and Legends Luke
What’s criminal is how Force Lightning requires the user to become a sadist, how using it would corrupt a person
Palapatine is a prime example as he uses it as his main weapon of choice, to cause suffering to others
Dooku in canon using lightning as a Jedi isn’t far fetched it shows his early connection to the Dark Side and affinity toward Lightning, and how over time became a factor for Dooku becoming sadistic himself as a full Sith Lord
Although usually to learn Lightning one must get struck by it to feel what it’s like to give pain to others when they use it themselves
Luke will always be my favorite Star Wars character. I hate what Disney done to him making him a shell of his former self. Which is very stupid it’s like the hate the skywalker lineage.
Well, I guess since the force is the power of life and runs through all life, then using the power of life to do harm to life is kind of a corruption of it; then again lifeforms don't need to tap into its own power to hurt other lifeforms, so maybe not.
Once burnt twice shy
He received the full power Of the force lightning from sidius without retaliation. Making him stronger than what people think. Yes it was pain and torture but the good force he felt doesn't keen he hated force lightning
Force Lightning is typically one of the first powers I try to get when I play KOTOR.
I would argue Transfer essence or Transference is more sinister.
The Force courses through all space-time and matter-energy. Including air, stones, & metals. Therefore it also exists in storms, machines, and in the nerves of living bodies. Electricity cannot be inherently evil. It wasn't the lightning that made Sidious evil, It was what he used the lightning for. There are only evil goals.
Luke was afraid Force Lightning would make him zesty like Palpatine.
"the dude shoots fuckin' lightning out of his hands, watch out for that"
Takes like four seconds to say 🤦
(30 if you're Yoda)
Bet there's an alternate timeline where Luke would only go into battle wearing a rubberised gimp suit from then on.
Obviously he would say it's the worst... because it tickles 😂😂
1:34 My thoughts exactly about Rey. Ironically she uses this purely sith ability while proclaiming herself to be a so called "jedi" 😂
I wish I had red force lightning
Sith lightning is great against a lesser opponent. Easily blocked by a lightsaber by an experienced Jedi.
He only said that after being on the receiving end. 😁
Because he got flash fried on the 2nd death star, as well as nobody even telling him sith could shoot fucking lightning out of their fingers.
Luke was extremely powerful, mostly because he had to be, he learned on the battle field
Obi-Wan:
“You could’ve at least told him about Force Lightning.“
Yoda:
“Respect for his elders, he must learn.”
Obi-Wan:
“What? Why?”
Yoda:
“Made fun of my home, he did.”
Obi-Wan:
“…no wonder why the Jedi Order failed…”
Yoda:
“I heard that…”
Don't you mean "heard that, I did."
