- It's been a long time since this theory has been popular, but the episode Jungle Moon from the Steven Universe Stranded special has once again brought the thought about Rose being Pink Diamond into many people's minds. Ever since we knew diamonds were a thing in this show, there have been people claiming that Rose may, in fact, be Pink Diamond. But surely, now that we finally saw Pink Diamond, there is no way that this could be the case! Actually... it is quite the opposite. This new episode actually sparked more debate about this theory than I have seen in quite a long time.
So, what gives? Well, with the death of some evidence supporting this theory brought rise to some more. Watch the full video to see what I mean, as it is quite interesting when all the evidence is pieced together in a single video. In hindsight, when Pearl sang, "you do it for her/that is to say you'll do it for him," she was fully aware that Steven was PD & that adds a whole other level of context & sadness to Pearl's relationship with Rose/Pink Diamond/Steven. No wonder she's so good at compartmentalizing.
She never left the service of her diamond, both sad and admirable.
Also, she says “and you’ll do it again” hinting that she served “multiple” gems

Okay, you didn't point out the biggest part of the new age Rose Diamond theory: Steven's possession powers.
Steven has the power to possess other people through his sleep, considering all of Steven's powers, we have to assume Rose Quartz also had this power, but maybe worked in a slightly different way.
The theory goes that, after gaining the Earth as her colony, Pink fell in love with the Earth and it's life forms, and didn't want to destroy it, but after working so much to gain a single colony, she couldn't just ask the other diamonds "hey uhhh I don't want this one I want another colony".
She tried making a human Zoo to preserve the human race, but eventually decided to use her possession powers to possess the body of a random Rose Quartz gem, and pretend that she was just a regular Quartz that went rogue and started a rebellion against the diamonds.
After a long time, she realized that the war was going nowhere and there was only one solution to this: to end her own life as a Diamond.
Pink managed to control both her own body and Rose's, and planned her own assassination. After that, she forever lived on as Rose Quartz. (until steven was born, I guess)
The only real problem I've seen people mention about this theory is that she'd need to go to sleep to possess Rose's body, but considering how most of Steven's powers are activated in a different, more "human" way from Rose's, I believe the sleep is just a Steven thing and Rose could do it at will.

but how could pink still have their powers in a rose quartz body?
I have two theories about this:
1. When she possesses a gem, all her powers are transferred to the possessed gem until said gem stops being possessed.
2. When Pink was shattered, all her powers were transferred to the Rose Quartz. This one's less likely because while the Strawberry Battlefield battle _could've_ been after Pink's shattering, I personally don't think it is.
i have another thing to add to support this theory, even though i don't personally think it's true.
since steven has to be asleep to use his possession powers, we'll assume rose did as well.
there's a possibility that when rose supposedly shattered pink, pink was asleep, since as far as we know, it doesn't make sense for a rose quartz soldier to just be able to shatter a diamond, unless they were in a vulnerable state.
so it's possible that pink DID possess rose quartz and shattered herself while she was sleeping.
Thank you for bringing this up. Everyone says "Oh Rose can't be Pink Diamond. Different gems". But completly disregard the possibility that Rose/Pink had Steven's possession powers. One person even said "Yeah but Steven uses it when he's asleep. Gems don't sleep". 1) Technically they can. Amethyst does all the time. 2) Sleeping's just how STEVEN does it. Rose had healing tears not healing spit so who knows how different his powers are from hers, 3) Sleeping could simply be how Steven uses the powers right NOW. If the power is based around the user being in a completely calm state of mind, it's possible that Pink/Rose used it while going into a trance, not by sleeping.
Considering the fact gems such as peridot dont have nearly as many powers as an era 1 version for example, that shows that the resources present dictate how powerful a gem can be, so i highly doubt a rose has the ability to gain the powers of a diamond simply by being possessed by said diamond, just like steven didnt seem to use his powers while in Lar's body

One reason I've kept this theory in mind is because of the evidence for it. Infact, it seems there is more for it then against it IMO, with most contradictions against it not holding up. I.E, Pink Diamond was this perfect god-like being but was somehow able to be shattered. OR that Pink Diamond was a tyrant monster - but the humans kept in her zoo are in paradise to the point they don't even understand what pain is.
We get the small pink diamond nods on various gems/fusions and even just everyday Steven clothes/outfits. We have Steven unlocking Diamond control panels... twice. We have Steven able to make functioning loyal armies (watermelons), then command them to live their own lives (sound familiar?). Not to mention every royalty reference (which is probably a Diamond reference). Steven's watermelon crown, his birthday crown/cape, having a pet lion, having a knight (Connie/Pearl), kneeling in respect (Pearl,Lars,Lion,Connie).Not to mention all the crazy powers, healing organic/non organic, mind-control/reading, emphatic/psychic powers, insanely powerful shields, time/space warping (ala Lion), oh yeah and being a full fledged necromancer.
I think people don't often consider what it means if this theory is true though..
If RQ is PD, then in essence Steven =PD, which means the Earth is Steven's colony.
If RQ =PD, that means Steven has a say in what the Diamond Authority does and can negotiate on a level others cannot. We know Steven likes to talk things out.
If RQ=PD, then that means the salvation of humans,earth and organic life will be preserved and The Diamond Authority is less likely to take over planets teeming with life - again if Steven has any say in it.
If RQ=PD, Steven is probably even more powerful then we thought and the "programming" to be a leader obviously follows in RQ and Steven; we also know Steven will be able to rally an army with ease. This would be helpful if there is another war on the horizon.
If RQ=PD, Steven can probably make new gems too - or at least heal any that are hurt.
If RQ=PD, Steven will be capable of working on a galactic (perhaps universal, heh- get it?) scale with other gem colonies and/or aliens.
And most importantly If RQ=PD, Steven can lead the charge in a revolution to change the cast system for gem-homeworld and help advance mankind, bridging the species in peace and harmony - while defending them from any interstellar threats.
I agree that from a narrative perspective Rose being Pink Diamond has serious potential that could greatly impact Steven's character.
If RQ=PD, then Jasper can have a loyalty powered swap to the Crystal Games side.
I like your nod to the fact that Steven is royalty... it seems to me that the people that make steven universe put a lot of thought into the names they picked for their characters, and from behindthename.com; Steven traces back to a biblical name meaning "Crown" or "That which surrounds".

Oh of course! I think it's very (I can't seem to find the right word) honourable(?) for you to come back to this theory and analyze all the new info and try to come up with a possible way Rose Quartz could be pink diamond. The shape of her gem part was incredibly clever and I never thought of that since we've never seen all of Steven's gem.

Stevonnie dreamt a memories, where him/she being Pink Diamond.
A lot of theory saying Rose is Pink. Because Steven who have Rose gem is having Pink's memory.
My theory is, during one time of Pink colonizing earth. Pink did something no Diamond had done. She fused. With a gem. Rose Quartz, Steven's mom..
And during her fusion, they share everything. Memories included. So this dream Steven had on Jungle Moonbase was a subconcious memory, Rose got when she was fused wt Pink before.
Rose probably wont remember much of Pink memories after unfuse. But the memory remain in subconcious mind...
And when Steven was at the Yellow Diamond Jungle Moonbase, maybe the subconcious memory recognize the place. And form a dream memory.
Why this memory? Well maybe because its a memory where Pink strong emotion is attached to. She was quite very angry when Yellow dismissed her. And she even break a glass.
Why did Pink Diamond fuse with Rose... maybe an accident... or to understand more of Rose intention etc. Or maybe Pink loved Rose...her favourite gem.
That actually would make a lot of sense. After all, gems do share many of their thoughts and experiences while fused. That said, there are clear limitations given Pearl was able to keep a secret from Garnet when they fused into Sardonyx. That said, maybe fusing with a Diamond is fundamentally different from fusing with another Gem because of how overpowering the experience is. Maybe Pink Diamond chose to give her those memories. Maybe Rose took them for some reason. Hopefully we'll find out soon.
The idea of Pink fusing with Rose is actually a great one, I’ve never heard of it before. Especially about the debates going along at that time about cross gem fusing...that would be pretty cool.

Although I hope your wrong, I must congratulate you for finding a way to sink this new evidence without inventing a new power that cause Steven to randomly hijack Diamond brains from anywhere in the universe.
I love this theory, because of how it explains all the contractions we are told about Rose and her behaviour, as well as the inevitable reveal it would cause, but it seems so unpopular that nearly everyone is scrabbling for crazy ideas to make the experience not be a memory from Steven; I've even heard people suggesting that since Steven talked to the Cluster (which was alive, even if it was an artificial Frankenstein) he has universe wide necropathy.
Your idea at least accepts Steven is the source and fusing with a diamond would still be a great way to explain how Rose became the first non-diamond to ever disobey them; although I still love the dilemma of not being able to order people to be free.

You know how Steven has a power that has been highlighted throughout the series but never really been explained?
The power to possesses living things.
As you know Rose has many powers that only _she_ has, like healing. So what if she has those powers cause Rose is none other than Pink Diamond possessing Rose Quartz!!!
Hear me out.
It would still fit Rose's motif of being special because she chose to rebel, cause Pink Diamond still rejected her role.
It would make sense of her gem being still bubbled in the temple, cause she can't possess anyone if she is shattered.
It would explain why the Rose shattering with a sword thing does not make sense. Cause *Pink faked her own death* so she can focus on the rebellion.
Plus if you watch the dream sequence and a Rose episode, (like Greg the babysitter) *Rose and Pink act and speak in a really similar way*, Rose even punched the controls when she was angry, just like Pink (this could be because Gems act like the diamonds they are made for, but still).

If I may point out, although this theory did cover the idea of angles of the gem and how the body forms around it, it still doesn't explain one small thing; Rose's gem is smaller overall than Pink's. No matter what angle you could rotate Pink's gem, it's still too big to be Rose's gem. If Pink's gem was somehow shrunk to be Rose's size, as far as I know, the only way to do that would be polishing and shaping to the point of what I assume would be the equivalent of shattering. It may not result the same way, but I'm sure it would have a similar effect if you are removing parts of a gem to make it smaller.

I think there's too much evidence against pink diamond and Rose Quartz being the same but I do think that somehow, Steven has a stronger connection to pink diamond than anyone thinks, especially since if you go back and rewatch episodes, there's for shadowing in the art for pink diamond and Steven's eyes often switch between stars and diamonds when he gets excited. I also think the eyes turning to diamonds in the dream wasn't a coincidence. I don't know what it would take for this connection to be made though.
I personally think rose quartz was particularly really close to pink and since they were close pink somehow bestowed some of her powers onto rose, hence why she has more powers than any other gem in the show and her resurrection powers make people share pinks color scheme
But what evidence do we really have? They look different? Regular Gems can shape-shift, who knows what a Diamond can do? We have a hearsay accounts that Pink Diamond being shattered by Roses's sword, which we know is impossible, and the account of the shattering makes no sense to anyone who actually pays attention to the details and not just take everything at face value. Also, do we really think that a "common" gem soldier like a rose quartz can resurrect and re-engineer life at will? Rose's power scope seems way higher than anything else we have seen. There must be a reason for that.

I don't wanna be that person who's like, "I knew all along!!!1!!" But I very briefly considered this theory when Steven had flashbacks on Jungle Moon. Then I disimiised it and thought that PD's gem was in Rose's somewhere. Or in Lion, or something.
What if pink was only small because she was young not a runt? We saw that in the flash backs that Garnet and pearl looked more like teenagers and amethyst looked more like a child.....so maybe pink was small only because she was young ^__^ just a thought!

Maybe suspiciously identical color schemes aren't just a coincidence, but have a very different explanation behind it.
In "Rocknaldo" we was given an idea of gemstone shards being inside living creatures' blood. What if this is whats going on? What if all living beings on Earth are "infected" with what remained of Pink Diamond: her dust? And Rose's ressurection power is actually activating that dust?
This actually could explained a lot. Coloration of ressurected? Caused by microscopic diamond shards. Source of that dream? Diamond dust in Stevonnie's blood. Even Steven's ability to fuse with humans actually are more plausible if said humans ALSO are some sort of human-gem hybrids via diamond shards in their blood.
Hell, even changes in Lars' behaviour in this episodes could be explained by this. He acted more open and more childish. He was confident, but easy to cry. And he was shown decent leader skills... Yeah, it may be just character development, but it also may be character development and being influenced by Pink Diamond.
(also, it's safe to assume that such tiny shards would be practicly undetected, so it dosen't create a plothole.)

Very interesting theory but not plausible. If that was the case, Gems themselves could fuse with humans alone, just how gems can fuse with Steven.
It seems to me that Gems haven't ever tried to fuse with humans... I can't remember the exact episode, but when Pearl finds out that Steven fused with Connie, she seems to think it impossible, but then realizes she doesn't actually know if its possible or not...
Having said that, this theory seems highly improbable to me. It seems to me that gem shards in the blood in order to be effective at all, would have to be large enough to be detected by modern microscopic instrumentation.
I don't believe we should readily dismiss anything Ronaldo has to say though, I think at least a couple things he's predicted have come true.
I also do like the theory that Steven isn't the only gem-human hybrid on earth. We have all assumed up until this point that Rose gave Steven her gem in order for Steven to live, but what if that wasn't actually the case? Did she and Greg have to try multiple times, before finally figuring out the magic formula to produce a biological-gem combination compatible for life? If not, and if it hadn't been done before, how would Rose have known she needed to sacrifice herself in order for Steven to live?

Its possible that Pink diamond has some kind of connection to all rose quartz since they are unique to her court and she may have been involve in creating them on earth and its not to farfetched that she and the rose quartz's are the only gems to discover the dream ability through sleeping since the zoo shows that pink understood that humans need to sleep and it's likely that rose quartz were there to help humans who were hurt its also possible they would even sleep with the humans to help them if they have nightmares. Something completely ignored by home world and would even be wrote off as pointless.

Here's my personal theory.
What if rose knew Pink diamond personally. That she and pink were kinda close. That how she knew about how Yellow and blue treated her like she wasn't important. Thats why Steven could see a conversation between Pink and Yellow. Thats also why rose may not have shattered her. She may have felt sorry for her. Also the rebellion was to make all gems free. Then pink could have been treated better. But something or someone shattered happened to pink. And if she was close to pink and the earth belonged to pink, Gems started to believe rose shattered her because she started the rebellion. Rose could have easily been a target to blame as the leader of therebellion. But truth be tolled. Rose and pink were friends and that may even be how rose met pearl. if our pearl did belong to pink diamond and she and rose were friends then she would have met pearl sometime. Who knows maybe you could make a video on this theory.
(Edit maybe thats also why all the rest of the rose quartz solders were in her personal room at the zoo).

Rose being Pink would violate too much of the setting. Gems can't change their actual gem, even shape shifting the stone stays the same shape and place. Shape shifting cannot be held for long. If Rose were Pink, she would have had to have disguised herself as a Rose Quartz (remember, there are bunches of them.), and frankly after the war, she would have just reverted back to her normal look. There is no reason to justify Rose being Pink. As for Steven's dreams, Steven's powers are based on empathy, and he is extremely empathetic. He picked up on Blue's emotions from the other side of a planet, I imagine he can probably feel lingering psychic residue if the emotions were strong enough. And let's face it, picking up emotional residue is a used enough trope that it wouldn't be that unusual for the Crew to use it as a storytelling method.
it wouldn't be shape shifting it would be PD using some device (like the mystery sphere in the moon base) to "recut" (to use a gemology term) her gem to look like another gem type shape.

thanks for taking this up, I´ve mentioned this theory a couple of days ago. even when it´s just a theory, it´s the most logic one.
if you set the hair color to the skin and the skin to hair, it´ll already make Pink look very similar to Rose. her lips and fluffy hair have a design of being free and not tied up.
as for a reason to why Pink would be Rose, just follow the Disney Alladin with Jasmine. she was in high power but she wanted to go out in the world by sneaking out in a disguise, and that´s how she met someone who kinda understood her for once. ofcourse the personalities and motives are totally different from Pink here, but if she disguised as a Rose, being appreciated and find that many of her gems having flaws like herself sounds like a reason to fight for the planet and the gems by putting up a scene of shattering, to destroy the image of her Pink past.

Rewatching this and adding what I think is the biggest reason: Rose tells Pearl they can never “go home”. If Rose is a quartz, made on Earth and never visited homeworld, why would she call it “home”? And she says she isn’t from Earth again, to greg, in “We need to talk”. Besides, in all of her flashback episodes, she appears rather childish, somehow.

I don't think this is off the wall at all. This seems like the most likely scenario tbh. We know gems can change their forms, we know Rose was ridiculously op in such a way that the other gems can't explain, it would explain why Steven has Pink's memories when every other character swears she's dead, it would explain why the "shattering" was written as such that there were no reliable witnesses. This also feels like the most Sailor Moon-(or anime)-esque twist, insofar as the messiah fiction angle. Steven isn't just A gem, he's THE gem. I also can't see them introducing Pink as a sympathetic little sister character just to have her murdered by the heroes. Maybe if this were some jet black HBO series but not here. Rose Quartz is/was Pink Diamond. She grew up. She filled out.
Add in Steven's almost telepathic connection to the diamonds which no other character has displayed. Of all the theories out there, this one just makes the most sense vs what we've been shown. It does leave some heavy questions floating around, such as why Pink became Rose, why Rose took the secret to her "grave", how relations got so bad between the diamonds that this felt necessary, etc. but nothing particularly unanswerable given how little we really know about Rose and the diamonds at this point in the series.

I don't think Rose is PD, and most arguments to this theory seems weak to me. For exemple, maybe Stevonnie had that dream/flashback because their power of empathy is different from Steven's - like Garnet's future vision is not exactly like Saphire's. I see a lot of people acting like Steven-Rose is specially connected to PD, that there must be something, ignoring that maybe it's just the way empathy works for Stevonnie. It's a valid theory anyway, we still don't know what were PD's powers, so maybe she could transfer her consciousness. I also wouldn't like for Rose to be Pink because I don't think it's the message the crew wants to pass on -- even if she's defective (it wasn't confirmed yet) she was still a diamond, a royal in some way, and the rebellion against the monarchy can't be led by the princess, it loses porpuse.

I believe that it is very unlikly myself. But as steven saw Pink's dreams and the palanquin frim his dream was pink's I believe maybe PinkDiamond inserted some shards of herself to specific rose quartzes or quartz. That would explain why she is so powerful and has so many powers.

Rose's gemstone has a pentagon, from what it looks like however, PD's is most likely has a hexagon, as well as us obviously seeing a bunch of rose quartz (rose quartzes?) bubbled in pink diamond's zoo, i also highly doubt a gem, even a diamond, could flip their gemstone sideways, also from what we see, PD appears to have a very large gemstone even in relation to her body, similarly to YD and BD, unlike rose who we know has a gemstone only about the size of her own hands if you are really stretching the artistic freedom

For this theory to make sense, there would have to be only one rose quartz which we’ve seen isn’t true. Also that would mean she shattered herself. It throws a lot of canon things out the window. It just doesn’t make sense
that's not true at all, there doesn't need to only be one rose the point is Pink changed her self to look like a gem type that already existed. for this theory to work our rose would have to be the most powerful of her type which does seem to hold true. As no other Roe has been said to heel other gems, rose's shield was a rare ability too and the fact it has the power to protect people from three of the diamonds at once.

It was already said that Rose Quartz was known for leading the Crystal Gem rebellion for several hundred years BEFORE Pink Diamond was shattered. Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond can't be in 2 places at once.
And it can't be Pearl shapeshifting to look like Rose Quartz during the whole rebellion because who would be healing the Crystal Gem soldiers during the war for Earth? It doesn't make sense at all. Pink Diamond and Rose are 2 separate gems.

rebel leaders are rarely in the same place as the leader of the enemy force and diamonds don't seem to lead from the front lines. peridot shows home world gems almost never see the diamonds face to face as they most sit in their gilded towers sending orders out by their pearls . even in garnet's flashback showing the crystal gems fighting PD Rose was not one of the silhouette there. as of right now the only time we "know" Rose and Pink came face to face was the "shattering".
its wouldn't be that hard for PD to play both sides and think about it what better way would there be for diamond that wants to prove herself then to show she was a good leader by putting down the first rebellion gems ever faced. but then something happened along the way and she changed her mind putting on this little show of "shattering herself" and taking up the rose persona full time before the end of the war.
