I just realized that this...this is why Pearl was so offended by the thought of Rose having secrets she wouldn't know about. Pearl LITERALLY KNEW HER GREATEST AND DARKEST SECRET. And for Rose/Pink to ask her of THAT much. To keep silent about that and then have the GALL to keep other secrets from her???? That is actually kind of messed up.

I think it was Steven or Amethyst (someone) did point out to Pearl, as this exact thing was brought up in the show, that she was, in fact, the one leading pink diamond. She showed her the wonders of Earth and she made Pink want to run away with her. So in a way, she was more than free.

This would be really interesting! Like what if owners implanted this silencing thing into their pearls, so that they could never reveal their owners’ secrets. Since Pearl has never truly mentioned anything about neither Pink nor White Diamond, it is still yet to reveal which Diamond she was owned by. Rhodonite’s Morganite would have done the same thing, but fusing with Ruby may have ‘dulled’ this trait unique of Pearls
Doesn't even need to go all out to Alexandrite, she may just need to become Opal or more likely Sardonyx, but Alexandrite would definitely be the best case scenario possible, UNLESS we consider two other options: We know that we're going to see a redone version of Rainbow Quartz at some point, and Steven's human presence could really overpower White Diamond's abilities. Look at how Steven was able to nullify the Gem Destabilizers that're designed after Yellow Diamond, that might work with other Diamond abilities (although that idea might not be entirely valid since he still seemed phased by Blue's emotional abilities). Or to go ALL the way, we know that it's the Onyx temple (I believe), meaning that a fusion with Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst and Rose/Steven would be the ultimate way to get rid of White Diamond's influence. But of course, these are all just theories =/
Danny Neyman there's something else too!! Alexandrite has two mouths - Pearl in the fusion may try to silence the upper mouth, but the second mouth can still talk (Amethyst talks through it in Fusion Cuisine, demonstrating it is capable of speech)!
I widely accept the theory that all Pearls cannot speak of the Diamond's secrets. Since they are always around the Diamonds they hear things that only the Diamonds should know. If they try to speak of a secret from their Diamond their hand is forced to shut the mouth.
I really hope that Pearl is being muted by the Diamonds, that would be pretty great. But a small part of me can't stop thinking that it was just bad acting from the animators e_e Pd: The "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" is definitivly a strech, but if it's true it would be pretty awesome!
Remy Shoot, this is when my spanish shows up. What I was trying to say is that Pearl acting was poorly done. In animation, acting is when the animators figure out and decided how a character moves and reacts. Good acting results in believable characters. Bad acting is just creepy and catastrophic. My personal fear, is that maybe the animators didn't nailed it with Pearl's acting, and decided to make Pearl cover her mouth as a sign of her struggle for telling Steven about her past. But they made it look that she was really struggling with her hand, so many of us were mislead by that and now we are thinking that Pearl maybe under the Diamond's control. I hope I made myself more clear now xD
I don't think Pearl's acting was bad. If anything I thought it was good because of how deliberate the animators made it look. It really seems like she physically can't talk about it, but as she says herself she wants to. It's part of why people made so many theories about this since then including the possibility of mind control. It peaks interest in her character which was already pretty interesting. It also adds another layer to the mysteries behind her character.
You know, there's a forth part to the "hear no evil speak no evil see no evil" saying which is "do no evil". This could tie into your theory. If pink diamond is actually not evil as some had speculated then it would follow that her pearl would do no evil as well
Phil's Fox Jumper I imagine given Pearl's close connection with Rose and the Diamonds is so closely entwined that to show her time with Rose during the rebellion is the key story that lays out the bigger secrets the show and the Crystal Gems have been keeping from Steven(and the audience)
Actually, that theory at the end there doesn't sound stupid at all. I never noticed that, but the three pearls together do represent see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Although, I doubt what they would have to reveal would be evil, but rather forbidden knowledge.
Now that "A Single Pale Rose" is out, this makes much more sense. Pearl, before she "shattered" pink diamond as rose quartz, Rose put Pearl's hands over her mouth, and asked her, as her last duty as a diamond, to never speak of that to anyone. So now, even when Rose is gone, she still has this sense of not wanting to betray her beloved Rose. Her silencing herself is a painful reminder that she still has to keep that secret. Even though Steven himself, is half rose quartz/pink diamond, Pearl now knows him as a different person, and is painfully covering up her secrets, even though she believes he deserves to know the truth.

I can kinda agree with the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" theory with one small adjustment Blue Pearl has her eyes covered, our Pearl covers her mouth and, if we go with Yellow Pearl having her ears covered, it lines up with the theory, however we all know that our Pearl can project images from her gem which, theoretically, could double as "speaking" and during 'The Trial' Blue is the one drawing what Steven describes, thus "seeing", and Yellow is transcribing what is being said, thus "hearing" Not sure what it all means but it could be interesting
This made me realize how horrible it was for pearl in the last example you used. Think about how pearl raised Steven up. Became a mother to him. And she has to watch him leave to be killed. She can't scream to him to stop, that pink was never shadered. That he is actually pink. It's truly horrible.
What if Rainbow Quartz was actually the gem that shattered pink diamond? This is just a sudden thought, but it could explain why pearl covers her mouth with her hands as she could be traumatized by what she did while fused. That could be her secret. Maybe Rose Quartz had taken the blame for the shattering. Pearl could feel guilty for being mixed into the whole mess.

White diamond’s power could be disabling gem powers. For instance, Pearl’s speaking is disabled, and the corrupted gems access to taking their preferred physical form is disabled. Idk what do y’all think?
Robert Cook it would make sense especially if the corruption song does turn out to be a fusion of the Diamonds’ powers. Yellow can disrupt a Gem’s physical form while Blue is able to affect other Gems’ emotional state.

I suspect that Garnet knows what’s going on. I think she knows why pearl isn’t able to share information. Every time pearl is covering her mouth and garnet is there garnet seems to look at her and one time she even said “you are making pearl very upset” maybe when it was just garnet, pearl and rose rose told garnet what was happening with pearl but did not tell her what the information pearl was hiding. One thing I am sure of is that Garnet knows what’s up with pearl, hence her distressed looks at pearl when she covers her mouth
Knowing what we do now, in Rose's scarab, she probably wanted to scream/shout/vent about what happened. And would have confessed when Steven gave himself up, if not for that last command
You forgot the most important and final evil, “Do No Evil” perhaps if your going with the “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil,” Pink Diamond, from what has been speculated, was nicer than the other Diamonds, so perhaps her pearl would have been the same and would have not acted violently, “Do No Evil” and going back to “See No Evil”, most blue gems have something with there eyes, Sapphires singular hidden eye, Lapis’ cloudy mirror like eyes when her gem was cracked, Aquamarine has her gem directly under her eye, Blue Zircon had a thing held up to her eye, even Blue Diamonds eyes were covered and she cries quiet frequently. Blue gems try to steer away from seeing evil, and Blue Pearls eyes are covered as to never see any evil, like her Diamond who was glad to have not witnesses Pink Diamonds shattering, and perhaps that she rarely leaves homeworld? We haven’t seen anything from White Diamond so that fits the speak no evil already, and yellow gems, like Yellow pearl, Yellow Diamond, Yellow Zircon, even Topaz who tried to feign not hearing, gems on her ears, as to never hear any evil, they rarely let the others talk and when they do, the Yellow gem doesn’t listen to reason. While Pink Diamonds Court mostly seem to be nice, like I assume the Rubies, Rutile, Padparacha Sapphire, and Rhodonite all seem very nice, as in, “Do No Evil”
Man, when you watch this after A Single Pale Rose, a lot of quotes from Pearl starts to come to mind. "You shouldn't be anywhere near the fighting! You're too important!" "Rose kept many things secret. Even from us." (Garnet) "But not from me! I was the one she told everything!" (Pearl) I'm sure there are a lot more, but I'll have to rewatch the series to find them all.

I think its less about keeping Diamond level secrets and more about being "pre programmed" to never speak out against their owners. Pearl isn't "owned" anymore, but that doesn't mean that "programming" went away. I see two possibilities: 1. The nature of why she can't speak about certain things is to keep the secrets and plans of her owner. She can't speak out about her previous owner, or the things and gems her previous owner was associated with, due to this programming. Her previous owner may be poofed, shattered, or back on Homeworld and as such can't change or tell her what she CAN speak about, forever locked into keeping those secrets. Her previous owner doesn't have to be a Diamond. They could just be an elite that was under one of the Diamonds during the war. 2. The nature of why she can't speak about certain things is to prevent Pearls from speaking out and against their owners. Its not about secrets so much as obedience. When Pearl was freed, however that may have went, the programming stopped being associated with her previous owner. It started being associated with the Crystal Gems during the rebellion and eventually Steven and his friends and family. The programming has likely become warped due to thousands of years of old conflict and trauma coming to head against Steven's attempts to bond with her. She can't stop the programming from censoring what she can say and has inadvertently caused the programming to associate Steven as her owner(likely the same thing occurred during the rebellion with Rose). Steven's association as her owner is likely not something she did consciously, rather the result of considering him "family", and the programming using that definition as the closest thing she would have to an actual owner.
I totally agree! That wasn't addressed in the video, but I was also guessing it had to do with her life in servitude to the diamonds, or even abuse by them.

Nice to see you come back. I'm not into this theory, but this video gave me an idea. You mentioned that some people believe Pearl was designed to remain silent. Knowing Rebecca Sugar is inspired by anime, what if she was inspired by Princess Tutu. Long, amazing story short, Princess Tutu is about a Duck who was turned into a human, but she has to turn into Princess Tutu to find her love's, Prince Mytho, heart shards. But if she confesses her feeling to him, she will die. There's a lot of similarities here. First, Princess Tutu wears white and also has pink hair and blue eyes. She also covers her mouth a lot. And a lot like Steven Universe, the anime relies more on resolving conflict through talking and dancing more than fighting. It's only 24 episodes and I recommend both the dub and sub. You should really check it out because I really do see a connection between the two shows.

gems are programms, pearl showed that she stores older versions of herself inside her gem, version 1.0; 1.1; 1.2 etc and the diamonds can just alter those programs and add a code like 'if pearl trys to speak X hands go to place Y" Pink dismond placed pearls hands where she programms them to be and "orders as diamond" to set the extra program in motion - this could also mean rose/diamond 'created' the christal gems by adding a 'rebell' subroutine - and also explains how steven/rose/pink D can enter a gems mind (dreams) and alter their characteristic/let their personality grow - best shoen in stevens mind control power. Once steven gets all memmorys activated from pink D (happens slowly) pink D will be able to alter the minds of organic beeings just like those of gems

This theory was one of my favorites long before I saw A Single Pale Rose. It was this video that made me believe that Pearl had been forced to silence herself about pink diamond. I'm so happy this theory was confirmed! Now I just hope my suspicions about the true origins of our pearl gets confirmed soon.
hmm. looking back at the one near the end of the first season where pearl is upset because she learned "Rose had secrets even she didn't know" i think the hand thing is subconsciously related- given what we know now.
Pink diamond cursed her to be like that until the secret actually gets out. As a pearl, pink diamond said while putting pearls hands over her mouth, "As my last order to you as a diamond no one can ever know/findout."
I hadn't realized all the times Pearl places her hand over mouth in this whole series. It's so amazing how much that little detail about her might not just be coincidence.
My personal thought after a single pale rose thing is that orders from diamonds are bound to whom they’re ordered too. Though this might only apply to pearls. I love the idea that If a diamond orders a pearl they HAVE to do it regardless if they want too. Anyways I’m sure I’m not the first person to think this but figured I’d say it anyways

I widely accept the theory that all Pearls cannot speak of the Diamond's secrets. Since they are always around the Diamonds they hear things that only the Diamonds should know. If they try to speak of a secret from their Diamond their hand is forced to shut the mouth.

Remy Shoot, this is when my spanish shows up. What I was trying to say is that Pearl acting was poorly done. In animation, acting is when the animators figure out and decided how a character moves and reacts. Good acting results in believable characters. Bad acting is just creepy and catastrophic. My personal fear, is that maybe the animators didn't nailed it with Pearl's acting, and decided to make Pearl cover her mouth as a sign of her struggle for telling Steven about her past. But they made it look that she was really struggling with her hand, so many of us were mislead by that and now we are thinking that Pearl maybe under the Diamond's control. I hope I made myself more clear now xD

I don't think Pearl's acting was bad. If anything I thought it was good because of how deliberate the animators made it look. It really seems like she physically can't talk about it, but as she says herself she wants to. It's part of why people made so many theories about this since then including the possibility of mind control. It peaks interest in her character which was already pretty interesting. It also adds another layer to the mysteries behind her character.
You know, there's a forth part to the "hear no evil speak no evil see no evil" saying which is "do no evil". This could tie into your theory. If pink diamond is actually not evil as some had speculated then it would follow that her pearl would do no evil as well

Now that "A Single Pale Rose" is out, this makes much more sense.
Pearl, before she "shattered" pink diamond as rose quartz, Rose put Pearl's hands over her mouth, and asked her, as her last duty as a diamond, to never speak of that to anyone. So now, even when Rose is gone, she still has this sense of not wanting to betray her beloved Rose. Her silencing herself is a painful reminder that she still has to keep that secret. Even though Steven himself, is half rose quartz/pink diamond, Pearl now knows him as a different person, and is painfully covering up her secrets, even though she believes he deserves to know the truth.
I was literally thinking about this theory on the bus home today, and then, boom, my favorite TH-cam channel makes a video on it!

Well, it would make sence that pearl shattered pink diamond.. She wanted to save the earth, because she joined the Rebels (Rose Quartz) so she shape-shifted into Rose and shattered her. That would explain that Eye ruby thinks that Rose shattered pink :D And why pearl doesn't shape-shift

I’ve been saying this for a while now. She’s hiding the secret that she can perfectly imitate another gem’s form. And if she changed into Rose you wouldn’t see her gem as there would bangs covering it.

Blue Pearl has her eyes covered, our Pearl covers her mouth and, if we go with Yellow Pearl having her ears covered, it lines up with the theory, however we all know that our Pearl can project images from her gem which, theoretically, could double as "speaking" and during 'The Trial' Blue is the one drawing what Steven describes, thus "seeing", and Yellow is transcribing what is being said, thus "hearing"

This made me realize how horrible it was for pearl in the last example you used. Think about how pearl raised Steven up. Became a mother to him. And she has to watch him leave to be killed. She can't scream to him to stop, that pink was never shadered. That he is actually pink. It's truly horrible.
What if Rainbow Quartz was actually the gem that shattered pink diamond? This is just a sudden thought, but it could explain why pearl covers her mouth with her hands as she could be traumatized by what she did while fused. That could be her secret. Maybe Rose Quartz had taken the blame for the shattering. Pearl could feel guilty for being mixed into the whole mess.

I suspect that Garnet knows what’s going on. I think she knows why pearl isn’t able to share information. Every time pearl is covering her mouth and garnet is there garnet seems to look at her and one time she even said “you are making pearl very upset” maybe when it was just garnet, pearl and rose rose told garnet what was happening with pearl but did not tell her what the information pearl was hiding. One thing I am sure of is that Garnet knows what’s up with pearl, hence her distressed looks at pearl when she covers her mouth

You forgot the most important and final evil, “Do No Evil” perhaps if your going with the “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil,” Pink Diamond, from what has been speculated, was nicer than the other Diamonds, so perhaps her pearl would have been the same and would have not acted violently, “Do No Evil” and going back to “See No Evil”, most blue gems have something with there eyes, Sapphires singular hidden eye, Lapis’ cloudy mirror like eyes when her gem was cracked, Aquamarine has her gem directly under her eye, Blue Zircon had a thing held up to her eye, even Blue Diamonds eyes were covered and she cries quiet frequently. Blue gems try to steer away from seeing evil, and Blue Pearls eyes are covered as to never see any evil, like her Diamond who was glad to have not witnesses Pink Diamonds shattering, and perhaps that she rarely leaves homeworld? We haven’t seen anything from White Diamond so that fits the speak no evil already, and yellow gems, like Yellow pearl, Yellow Diamond, Yellow Zircon, even Topaz who tried to feign not hearing, gems on her ears, as to never hear any evil, they rarely let the others talk and when they do, the Yellow gem doesn’t listen to reason. While Pink Diamonds Court mostly seem to be nice, like I assume the Rubies, Rutile, Padparacha Sapphire, and Rhodonite all seem very nice, as in, “Do No Evil”

You are forgetting non-Diamond Gems can acquire Pearls. I think its less about keeping Diamond level secrets and more about being "pre programmed" to never speak out against their owners. Pearl isn't "owned" anymore, but that doesn't mean that "programming" went away.
I see two possibilities:
1.
The nature of why she can't speak about certain things is to keep the secrets and plans of her owner.
She can't speak out about her previous owner, or the things and gems her previous owner was associated with, due to this programming. Her previous owner may be poofed, shattered, or back on Homeworld and as such can't change or tell her what she CAN speak about, forever locked into keeping those secrets. Her previous owner doesn't have to be a Diamond. They could just be an elite that was under one of the Diamonds during the war.
2.
The nature of why she can't speak about certain things is to prevent Pearls from speaking out and against their owners. Its not about secrets so much as obedience. When Pearl was freed, however that may have went, the programming stopped being associated with her previous owner. It started being associated with the Crystal Gems during the rebellion and eventually Steven and his friends and family. The programming has likely become warped due to thousands of years of old conflict and trauma coming to head against Steven's attempts to bond with her. She can't stop the programming from censoring what she can say and has inadvertently caused the programming to associate Steven as her owner(likely the same thing occurred during the rebellion with Rose). Steven's association as her owner is likely not something she did consciously, rather the result of considering him "family", and the programming using that definition as the closest thing she would have to an actual owner.
I totally agree! That wasn't addressed in the video, but I was also guessing it had to do with her life in servitude to the diamonds, or even abuse by them.

Nice to see you come back. I'm not into this theory, but this video gave me an idea. You mentioned that some people believe Pearl was designed to remain silent. Knowing Rebecca Sugar is inspired by anime, what if she was inspired by Princess Tutu. Long, amazing story short, Princess Tutu is about a Duck who was turned into a human, but she has to turn into Princess Tutu to find her love's, Prince Mytho, heart shards. But if she confesses her feeling to him, she will die. There's a lot of similarities here. First, Princess Tutu wears white and also has pink hair and blue eyes. She also covers her mouth a lot. And a lot like Steven Universe, the anime relies more on resolving conflict through talking and dancing more than fighting. It's only 24 episodes and I recommend both the dub and sub. You should really check it out because I really do see a connection between the two shows.

In highsight, it makes the recent revelation have alot of groundwork, knowing that Pearl's been hiding so much for quite often throughout the show.
gems are programms, pearl showed that she stores older versions of herself inside her gem, version 1.0; 1.1; 1.2 etc and the diamonds can just alter those programs and add a code like 'if pearl trys to speak X hands go to place Y"
Pink dismond placed pearls hands where she programms them to be and "orders as diamond" to set the extra program in motion - this could also mean rose/diamond 'created' the christal gems by adding a 'rebell' subroutine - and also explains how steven/rose/pink D can enter a gems mind (dreams) and alter their characteristic/let their personality grow - best shoen in stevens mind control power. Once steven gets all memmorys activated from pink D (happens slowly) pink D will be able to alter the minds of organic beeings just like those of gems

This theory was one of my favorites long before I saw A Single Pale Rose. It was this video that made me believe that Pearl had been forced to silence herself about pink diamond. I'm so happy this theory was confirmed! Now I just hope my suspicions about the true origins of our pearl gets confirmed soon.

My personal thought after a single pale rose thing is that orders from diamonds are bound to whom they’re ordered too. Though this might only apply to pearls. I love the idea that If a diamond orders a pearl they HAVE to do it regardless if they want too. Anyways I’m sure I’m not the first person to think this but figured I’d say it anyways
