Literally just unboxed mine like 15 minutes ago. This little guy popped up on ebay out of NOWHERE and i assumed i was late to the party. I had just gotten paid and bit the bullet. I'll keep messing around with it and see how i feel, but ive still got my character actions 2017 release as well, which i was trying to repair recently; aka the reason i even went looking around for a new one anyway.
I think the chase and pulse effects hold this back, It's almost perfect but the chase is shown in the TV show to be quite fast, think the original toy (and Rubbertoe Replica) was much closer there. I don't recall if we ever saw the pulse effect in the show but that looks better on the old toy too. Is a bit of a shame cause if those two were on par with the original I'd be looking into swapping the electronics in my Rubbertoe out! (my Rubbertoe has duff electronics, even a trip back to Nick's repair shop didn't sort it for long :P)
Another Sonic Screwdriver that could double as a torch/flashlight is the Seven20 version of The Thirteenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver! The lighting on that one is pretty bright as well!
I do wish that all sonic screwdrivers came with a flashlight mode that didn’t have the sound on when using it to make it a bit more practical and less annoying tbh
I am way too confused as to where this thing has came from 😂 but I will probably try to get my hands on it, maybe even replace the blue with screen accurate paint 🙂 But I have a little question for you, do you think it would be possible to do your Switch Modification on this without scratching it? I know that on original it did not have any problems but I'm not sure with this one since I would love to do it.
Yeah it’s a bit of a strange one isn’t it, I think it’s definitely worth picking one up though! Yes I actually modified it last night after filming this video. It works pretty much the same as the original ones apart from this one has glue holding some parts in so you just have to break the glue off. I’ll most likely do an updated version of the video at some point soon 😎👍
@@SameSonicDifferentCase So I got the sonic into my hands finally, how the hell did you break the glue? 😂 I think you meant glue on the board itself, atleast one I have doesn't have glue anywhere else, I'm affraid I could break it or rip a cable, I tried cutting it with a scalpel but it doesn't move :D and honestly removing the golden ring is challenge on it's own on this one 😆
Aw, I really want this since my original 12th Doctor sonic had an encounter with an excited canine, but all the listings are all in the 50s at least! 😫
I wonder if this was something that was going to be made officially? The chrome and additional features are perfect!! It would be so cool to see a range of these upgraded sonics be produced! Or like a collectors set. I've had my 12th sonic since it released in the US and the eBay version would be so sweet to have but I don't think I can justify paying over $60 USD. Meanwhile I can get the chrome 14th sonic for $35 on eBay. I'll definitely be waiting until the price comes down! Huge thanks for the video and links! It's funny because it was YOUR video all those years ago that helped me "upgrade" my 12th sonic to have the prop slider function on the toy! It was so worth it :D
That could be the case, but in my opinion, the individuals from the factory producing the bootleg 14th Doctor's Sonic Screwdrivers probably noticed a market opportunity for a reissue of the 12th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver and also opted to create a chrome version utilizing the existing paint supplies from the 14th Doctor's Sonic production. I agree, the chrome paint and additional settings definitely enhance the overall appeal! A range of upgraded Sonic Screwdrivers or a collector's set would be incredibly exciting to see. Character Options are definitely missing a trick these days when it comes to Sonic Screwdriver releases. That's fantastic to hear! I'm glad my video helped you upgrade your 12th sonic! Waiting for the price to come down sounds like a wise decision; they might even pop up on Amazon at some point, you never know! 😎
This is a dream. Pretty sure the £30 ebay listings are some sort of scam and you'll end up with the one on the right though. I'm still quite confused about the legitimacy of this product though because its not a literal bootleg, like the 10th and 11th that fill up ebay for absurd prices.
Just to say, I thought I was getting the electroplated version with the link in the description, becausr thats what they were advertising, but literally just unboxed it and its the standard version wich doesnt have the red setting.
That’s very annoying, I found myself in the same situation as I’ve bought some extras from a few different eBay listings now and two out of three have turned out to be the standard editions. Just request a return from the seller, explaining that they’ve sent you the wrong item or have put the wrong image and description of the item in their listing and they should offer you a partial refund to keep the item, just decline that and say you already have this version and only want the one that was described in the original listing. Then they’ll have to accept the return. In some cases the seller won’t even ask you to send the item back they’ll just refund you and you can keep the Sonic Screwdriver! 😉 That’s what just happened with one of mine, I’m still waiting to hear about the other return! 😂
@@SameSonicDifferentCase thanks man. Thats exactly what they did. I bought 2 for £60 and they tried offering me £5 back. I told them I'd only accept 50% of what I paid, and they accepted. I would have sent them back and got the full refund, but one was a leaving present for my friend from work, and it may not be the electroplated version, but he doesnt have any version of this sonic in his collection, so it's still nice for him to have. Sucks that it seems a lot of sellers seem to be doing this exact same thing recently.

Should i trust the ebay sellers? edit: yea, the one i got from a random chinese reseller is perfect. The saving of the button presses is such a neat feature too
I’d say the slow disco mode is more accurate to the first original prop that was used in Hell Bent. The faster disco mode that’s used on the Character Options version is the most accurate as the chip that was used inside them was also used on two of the four filming props as well as the Rubbertoe Replicas version.
10:45 Well when comparing this one to other Sonic Screwdrivers, the settings on this one are all very bright which is fantastic! But while the torch function does give off a decent amount of illumination, it is not as bright or as practical as a purpose-built flashlight 😉🔦
Personal I'm not a fan of the chrome, as I'm always scared my grimy hands will destroy the finish, so I'm gonna have to buy another copy of both to swap the internals. Hoping it works out well, and luckily they're a decent price in case I mess up along the way
