- Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 6 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a dead Safetran Type-3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Because of how slow the coal train was moving out of The Shoals, I was able to beat it to this crossing in Cherokee. However, he has also picked-up speed somewhere between Tuscumbia and here.
Interestingly enough, the Safetran Type-3 here is dead, despite being a newer one (has the shorter base). The bell here also apparently rings when the gates rise apparently, but I wasn't able to confirm it on this trip. The crossing also used to have 8 inch mast lights, but as you can see, they were removed sometime last year.
www.rxrsignals....
They should make their bells last longer
Great video. Rest in peace safetran type 3 low pitched electronic bell.
Thanks!

I think i heard it ringing very quietly...
That was the North Pike crossing, which is one block to the east of this one and has a similar set-up with the same bell:

***** OK...
Nice! Yesterday a bell died and now another one
Thanks! Bells seem to be dying around here for no reason. Also, interestingly enough, it seems that Safetran Type 3s (especially ones installed between 2010 and 2012-ish, maybe even later) are dying pretty rapidly.
Also Safetran type 2 bell on Sunnyvale station south crossing died that I heard from someone. Gonna get that soon
***** Interesting.
freebrickproductions Is this area in a humid climate. They could be failing because they can't cope with the humidity or electronic bells are just crap
Pacific Zone Railfan yes probably
He was hauling too
Was the bell replaced?
Yes.
freebrickproductions What bell was replaced with?
GS type 2 e bell
Can we hear the bell in a video if you send it?
Was It Replaced By A NEG E Bell ?
NS doesn't use NEG e-bells.
@@freebrickproductions Was It Replaced By A GS E Bell
@@FloridaRailfanKid803 IIRC, yes.
@@freebrickproductions Let Me Guess GS Type 2 E Bell Right?
It would've been cool if NS did use NEG E-Bells!
Great Catch!
Thank you!
freebrickproductions I drove by Lilly Flagg Rd this morning and I swear I thought I saw the brand new signal installed
I'll see about going by there tomorrow before work.
I don't know for sure if it was but I saw something that looked a bit different, or I could be just losing my mind
That's why I'm going out there tomorrow.
Great catch with BNSF 9575!
Thanks!
What was the bell replaced with?
A GS Type 2.
