    I'm still waiting for a forest brush that let's me sample the population trees under the brush to reproduce the brush that created the trees.

    Besides brush size and strength I wish the elevation set by right clicking appeared in numbers along with other two values.

    So exciting to see what you can do in CS2. Now off to go see the build guide 2 👍

    Pretty happy we aren’t giving up the forest brush removal functionality.

    I do like that the 'footprint' of terrain adjustment is much more consistent with where the terrain will actually change. Still trying to learn CS1's awkward 'sort of far away from the footprint and also stretches more to the East than any other direction for no apparent reason', good to know I won't have to in 2. In a similar vein, glad to see the 'ridges' are also gone, they can look nice but they're really annoying, if I want ridges I'll make them, if I want flat I'll make flat, good to know I will be able to do that here.
    On the minus side, bit disappointed to see no improvements to the slope tool. It needs clear indicators of where you set the slope start/end while you're adjusting, and also the ability to 'lock' those placements if you ever want to release your mouse button in the middle of the process. Not the worst thing ever, but still feels like it will be as annoying to use as it was in CS1.
    Also kinda disappointed to see no totally new terrain adjustment tools at all. Even SimCity 4 had more. Definitely something mods can cover but I like to see vanilla doing as much as they possibly can.

    The tree thing is actually vanilla console functionality in CS1, although the toggling of removing specific/all vegetation is a new thing IIRC. Would be nice to be able to multi-select different tree types in the vegetation panel (I suspect an early mod for this...)

    A problem I ran into was, after I widened a river I was no longer allowed to put a harbor on the coast because there was a "No Water" prompt. The game also does not turn the harbor towards the coast like it does with the "natural" coasts.

    2:51 I noticed that the cut&fill road has weird shadow. I thought it was because of my 980ti. But it seems like it happened to you too.

    With the slope tool, do you have to right-click then hold and then left-click and hold?

      Right click sets the height, then left click and drag from whatever you want to slope up to that height

      4000's series cards aren't having an issue, but don't expect to play in 4k on the current version. City Planner has a great video showcasing performance and many different setups

    Still no erosion brush... meaning everything takes 10 times longer to not look man made. its just a brush with random noise that smooths out slowly as you hold the click down - how hard would it be to implement if SC4 could do it

    can you build roads on terraformed bodies of water?

  • @Cyborg10000
    @Cyborg10000 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the edge of the land is very ugly because of the sharp squares. It was in CS 1 too but i was hoping that it won't look like that in CS 2. Is this like a must have which they can't do nothing with?

    • @Khotetsu
      @Khotetsu ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's a compromise between performance and visual quality. The ground might be voxel based, which is used sometimes for deforming/destructible terrain and objects, but at the end of the day everything in a game is just polygons, and the more refined something looks, the more polygons it needs to look that way and the more of a performance impact it's going to have because the game needs to compute all those extra polygons.
      I do wish we had a brush that would square off the edges though and remove the jaggedness. It's really noticeable on the cut and fill roads because the shadow renders based on the terrain rather than the edge of the retaining wall/road and looks super jagged and rough.

    Accidentally ran the flatten terrain tool over a river and irreparably seem to have destroyed the entire city. Unless anyone has any specific river repair tutorial? It seems like the terraforming is intended for land use only and touching water with it is a big no-no.

  • @TiGGowich

    I find terraforming extremely annoying... the terrain height differences on the map really mess with the map... I have spent hours and hours trying to even out differences etc. but there are always strange looking places left where buildings look ridiculous, slopes etc... idk I really really dislike it. You can't just naturally follow the terrain in how you build because the buildings and zones don't behave how they should... it's clear buildings have no idea what to do with the elevation differences
