    Thanks a lot Emilie, really interesting. I was looking for a L-bracket for the OM-1 and your detailed post made a difference. I've just bought it, you can tell 3 legged that your post is very good. Good photos.

    Emilie. I got my Ollie L-bracket last week and totally agree with you it is excellent. I had a generic one for my OM-1 but when I found out about the Ollie I ordered it at once love how perfectly it fits and works with the OM-1.

    Sent it back immediately and stick with the Ellie... it doesn't fit flat on the bottom of the camera. There are 2 small protrusions on the left of the base plate, The L-Plate sits on top of them on the one side, which form a gap in the shape of a wedge. Also u are not able to remove the safety screws since one holds the L side of the braket in place. U can remove the other but then your camera is not flat on the ground if you set it aside. Oh and the other thing. The head of the dedicated saftey screw is to high even for the 3Legged thing heads.

    It definitely improves on my RRS L-bracket on a few things, like the extra gadgets supplied. Also, RRS has opted for placing the L-component in front of the camera body, to avoid interference with cables, but it also means you have a protruding thing on the body. On the other hand I actually like that design choice as it kind of gives me an extra handle on the camera, so I can hold it with a two hand grip. I have a thing for trying to shoot handheld at really slow possible shutter speeds, and two-handed grip helps me hold the camera more steadily. Also, I love that the RRS plates have a built-in hex key holder, so I always have a hex key when I bring my camera.
    Also, weight isn't always bad. I bought the L-plate for my E-M1X too, even tough I will rarely use it on a tripod. The reason is that I mainly have it for use with my 300/2.8, which means I want the body to be as heavy as possible to balance the front-heaviness of the 300. That lens is a beast, almost as heavy as a Canon 600 F4. 😀
    Oh, and I guess you can buy five 3 Legged Thing brackets for the price of one RRS bracket. 😀

    Great video Emilie. I couldn’t attach the bracket to my OM1 without extending the side bracket because of my camera strap. Is your camera strap a quick release? If so are you able to advise me the details of the strap please?

    I have an L bracket from Really Right Stuff. I don't use it much, but it's necessary for night photography. It was specifically designed for the OM-1 and has similar features to the bracket you reviewed.

    Hallo Emilie. I have a question : have you tested this L bracket on OM 1 with battery grip mounted on it ? In negative case, you know some L bracket right for battery grip ?
    Many thanks....

    • @EmilieT
      @EmilieT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will not work with the battery grip as the design is different. I would contact 3 legged Things and ask them if they have a universal bracket that might work with the grip.

    I have this bracket, which is very nice. However it has one small design flaw, it doesn't fit flat on the bottom of the camera. There are 2 small protrusions on the left of the base plate, presumably to align the optional battery grip. The L-Plate does not take those into consideration and sit on top of them on the one side, which form a gap in the shape of a wedge. In effect the plate isn't flush to the base plate as one would expect, but rather touches the base plate at both ends and a 1mm wedge gap in between. I solved the issue by cutting out a thin shim out of cardboard to go between the base plate and the L-Plate, but ideally two small holes should be drilled on the base of the L-Plate to align with the 2 small protrusions as seen on the RRS plate. The gap can clearly be seen in your video. 3-legged things is aware.
    P.s. you should do a vlog on that 8mm lens that you are using.

      Now that you made me aware of it, I am really bothered by that on my Ollie! I think 3LT should replace the bottom section of the plate with one having the needed holes. I am not really wanting to try drilling my own out.

    I like L-brackets, but not for my EM1 / OM1. I prefer the "SmallRig 3948 Camera Cage for OM System OM-1" with a "Peak Design 4-way Arca V3 Standard plate" on top/side of it. I often use my tripod "upside-down" for close-up and macro, and now my camera is upright. In this way I don't struggle with buttons and settings.
