Hello Emilie, timely video as I've been suddenly lusting over the Pen-F and E-P7 which sadly were never sold in North America as my every day camera. I think a great lens for this camera is the 17mm f/1.8 lens.

Enjoyed the video Emilie. I have just purchased a three legged thing Ollie so that I can switch easily from landscape to portrait. However, I am having difficulty fitting the Ollie in portrait. I have a Arca-Swiss fitting attached the camera which works perfectly in landscape but I am lost when I try to switch to portrait. I appear to have a fitting problem. Is there another part or am I missing brain cells!! I am using a manfrotto ball head MH494. I am really feeling very stupid. I purchased the Ollie from eBay. No instructions included. Do I need a different ball head?

Hi. Thank you for your comment. Ollie should have zero issues fitting in portrait on your tripod if it works in landscape mode. Send me a photo so I can see the issue.

I have all three Valleret gloves ... the thin inner glove, the next layer and then the large mitten going over the previous two. The middle glove was very difficult to use with my OM-1 M2. They were too stiff. So, here I am north of Fairbanks, Alaska at midnight last Feb. Temp was -20°F. Trying to capture the Aurora. Final glove set-up? Wore the thin glove. Put hand warmers in the large mittens. They had a very useful strap to hold them around your neck. In-between shots, just put my hand in the heated mittens. The actual photographer gloves were useless for me. I will try the alternative you are offering.

OK, I get that you are an ambassador for OM Systems. But listing each and every argument for your OM-1 in a sort of in-your-face manner is not especially convincing. Yes, you might argue for a system like an MFT camera and its lenses that aren't as heavy as, say, a FF camera. However, if you are often shooting in low light situations where with a small sensor you don't even have a chance to get your picture with a sufficiently fast exposure time you might want to opt for the FF system. Different people may put different value on this decision and that's fine. But what I found really questionable: How can you make a video about the best camera for wildlife photography and not speak out one single time the word 'autofocus' that is one of the most essential features for wildlife photographers? I don't need a video that is ranting about how megapixels or the price of a camera doesn't make up a good tool for wildlife when at the same time you don't talk at all about the autofocus capabilities of a camera.

On my EM-1iii, the top button is for peaking and the bottom one is for C1, which has my settings for macro (focus bracketing, etc). On my OM-1, I kept the peaking on the top button and have focus bracketing on the bottom one. By holding the button and moving the dial I can easily adjust the focus bracketing settings. This is so much easier to use in the field than a custom setting on the top dial.

Have been using the front buttons for many years, am an exception (I think) who assigns the AF on button and front button at the bottom to AF on and I find this is beautiful, always focus with ring finger, only when camera is low to the ground I focus with the AF on button at the back. I use the top front button as a distance limiter.

I have a Lumix G9m2. It also has 2 nearly identical programmable buttons. I use them for near and far focus. Not sure Olympus has such a useful function. It pulls the auto focus away from the wrong subject it has landed on, to nearer the camera or (the lower button) further away. Really useful if the camera has focussed on the branch in front of the bird or behind the bird. You can ask it to bring the focus forward or push it back until it finds the bird. Easier and quicker than the joystick. Gamechanger!

I like the idea of using one for my custom mode. Thanks

Quelle coïncidence, je venais juste d'écrire sur ma to do list de mettre le Focus peaking sur le bouton avant de mon OM-5 !! 😁 Merci pour la vidéo 👍

I use them and have programmed like I want. Subject detection on the upper. And Peaking on the bottom. Sometimes I press them accidentally, but I still like the buttons. I wish they were little harder to press down so I don't do it accidentally.

Ever since they allowed assigning Custom modes to buttons, first on the M1X, and all bodies since then, I do C1 & C2 on the front. Miss having all 4 C modes on front buttons like the M1X.

That's hilarious... here i am thinking i am clever, and your buttons are programmed exactly as mine are on my E-M1X (which also gives those buttons in portrait, which i shoot often) - so, so useful. Good vid. Cheers.

I have focus peaking on the top button and magnify on the bottom button. Great for when I am using my vintage lenses.
