I've been watching your videos for a long time and as an ambassador, you have always disclosed it in every video, and have always shared positive and negative comments about Olympus cameras and lenses. I've followed other Olympus ambassadors and have felt that they did the same. Yes, you were able to get some good discounts and/or received gear to reviews (and then returned), but viewers should consider the amount of time ambassadors have spent creating videos and the value of the information that they have shared. I have learned a great deal, especially from you and Robin Wong. I hope you will continue to share your knowledge by creating videos related to photography techniques as well as gear reviews. Thanks!

    Dear Peter,
I would like to comment on this video.
Ever since I am an Olympus user I have learned a lot from your videos. I immediately gained confidence in you and still do. I would therefore like to thank you for all these years that have helped me to bring my hobby to a better level.
For all those who doubt that, I want to say here how wrong they are!

I switched from a Canon 5d iv kit to OM-1 for two main reasons: Most important, as an aging journalist I needed something smaller and lighter to lug around in my backpack all day. The OM-1 kit is one third of the size and weight of my former Canon kit. Secondly, the OM-1 is the most comfortable camera to hold and operate I have ever used. That actually makes me a better photographer!!! The M43-system also has a few benefits for my documentary work indoor in low light. My most used lens is the 17mm 1.2. It is fast enough to keep me at ISO200 even in dim situations, and at the same time I get more depth of field than I would on a full frame equivalent. As a journalist, I'm not necessarily after the blurred background in every frame; I try to tell a story. I'm glad you see a bright future for the OM System, and I hope you are right.

Thanks a lot for this video. Im an ambassador from the netherlands for almost a year now. and recently got some reel negative comments that the om-1 was a crap camera that i would not be telling the truth about it because im an ambassador. And that i only got the camera because it was free. But i bought everythibg vefore i became an ambassador so it was all my own choice just like everybody else. People are always refering to robin wong because he says it is a bad camera. Dont know what happend there he always talked about olympus very possitive and from the moment het stopt as an ambassador he thinks its all the worst out there so is he realy that honest? But im happy to see that you keep with your opinion and personally i dont know why i should not give my own honest opinion. Even as an ambassador im allowed to give my opinion and the truth is that i became an ambassadof of a brand thats been making my favorite cameras for years so i dont understand why it is so hard to believe. I have never questioned your honesty and i think you were one of the best out there actualy. To be hobest your one of my bigger examples on how i want to present myself in my videos. Btw i thibk you forgot to put the links in for the videos you mentioned there where no popups when you said there would be some. I was using Olympus before I became an Ambassador. OM-1 and OM-5 are just right for me when it comes to photography. For video work, I am looking for something that suits my needs better.

      Ambassadors are salesperson.
      They have zero credibility.
If you want to say things (good or bad) and be believed by us, don't sell your soul.
Companies give ambassadors/influencers products/discounts to sway their opinion. If it didn't work they wouldn't do it.
There are plenty of honest people who aren't ambassadors and can be trusted.
I'm glad Peter is not an ambassador any more.

Peter, thank you for your videos, many which helped me with my 4-Olympus Camera bodies. I just received my last one, the E-M5 Mark III and it is sharper than my E-M10 Mark IV, along with the E-M1. The E-M5 Mk III will probably be my main camera from now on, especially with the optional grip I purchased with it. I, too, love Fuji, and, if I could find a shop in my area had their bodies I might go back to Fuji. I had the X-T3 before going to Sony. My son asked me if there was a camera I haven't tried and I said "No". I have owned them all, even Pentax. I enjoy M4/3 and the images I get. I will continue watching as you find your next camera system. Stay safe and keep shooting.

The most glaring gap in OM System camera range is a proper replacement for the Pen F. I am primarily a street photographer and that will be a perfect fit for myself. Combined with the small primes from Panasonic and OM System, it will be a great combination.
In addition, I am continually amazed at people buying cameras based on mega-pixels, bokeh, dynamic range, "colour science", etc and yet the vast majority of these people post the images on Instagram or share on line only. They should simply focus on getter better at photography, using any camera including mobile phones. I've just compiled an A4 sized book of my photos taken with MFT, APSC and FF cameras, printed professionally, and you will not be able to tell which camera took which image. It is far better to spend time and money perfecting our photographic skills than feeding our GAS.

People thought Nikon was doomed just a few years ago (loosing money, behind in mirrorless tech). Then came the Z9 and Z8. OM Systems will survive if they find their niche. Too me its small portable cameras. I love my Nikons, but they are a pain to lug around. This degrades the photo experience A LOT. OM Systems should focus on portability and ruggedness.
There is a market between cellphone cameras and full frame. MFT sensors, with cutting edge computational photography, IBIS, smaller (and thus more affordable) lenses, and good ergonomics without making the body too big are key attributes IMO.

I was so happy getting great shots and a light pack. I did not see one mirrorless camera shooting stills. Many pros are still shooting DSLR, I was shocked and happy. I am going to gey the Oly 100-400 for the extra reach, just unbeatable for this type of photography.

Thanks Peter. I was shocked to hear that your integrity was questioned. Absurd. Soon after I bought the recently introduced OMD 1 Mark iii, the OMS I came out. With some essential improvements. The time span between the release of the two cameras was too short to research and develop them. So they must have been on the shelf as part of the deal to sell to OMS. For me, this is again proof that the times when engineers had any say are long gone, not only in photography. It’s the experts in profit maximalisation, marketing, legal issues that are in charge. And long term effects are not included. The actual product is irrelevant, be it a car or a camera or a washing machine.

This user-friendliness is something that should be emphasized more by OM-System and their current ambassadors. All the best for you, thanks again for your testings and other video's.

Peter, I have always believe in your honesty and truthfulness then and now! I have been using Olympus cameras with EM5.2 as my first. Then it came EM1.3, EM5.3 and now two OM-1 (my only cameras now). Almost always your experiences good or bad mirror mine. I agree OM-1 AF is way better than any of previous Olympus cameras. It just works differently and in certain situation, you need to adapt and try to use it differently to how you use the older models (EM1.2 or EM1.3.
I shoot exclusively for my personal pleasure and to support non-profit organization. From time to time, I sell my works if someones want to buy. Anyhow, I do hope OMDS give us the major FW update to OM-1 like 2.0 version. Hopefully it includes new features plus the improved AF particularly for the video. Lastly, I would pre-order 50-200mm F2.8 lens as soon as it is announced :-). I still am keeping my hope on it! Keep up the great work Peter....

I recently retired from professional photography. Evaluating my post retirement camera needs, I realized that the great majority of my personal photography over the past 12 years has centred around creative mobile photography. I’ve enjoyed immensely the on the spot editing, creative apps and the freedom of the approach.
Much of my work was far removed from traditional photography, using motion blur, multiple exposures, unusual perspectives, grain effects, shifted colour and much more.
After looking at the camera field the OM1 and associated system gives me a toolset that meet the same creative needs, but at a much better quality level. In other words it is the mobile phone replacement.
Maybe that should be OM Systems target audience, photographers who want the creative power of the smartphone at a much higher quality level.
It’s an almost unique selling point, most other systems are too bulky, too heavy, lack creative features, don’t work well for in-camera editing, have poor connectivity etc.
No camera is perfect or does everything well but the OM1 for those not hung up on sensor size and megapixels is a very compelling argument for leaving the smartphone at home.

The problem with different systems is the big investment in lenses. Since I shoot both Sony and MFT I know all about the cost in two systems. As a result I have prioritized the system that I find most useful.
For me that is MFT, focusing on G9, GH5 M2 and GH5S and a mix of Laowa, Sigma, Voigtlander, Olympus, and Lumix, lenses, and speedboosters for Zeiss (Nikon F mount) and my EF tilt/shift lenses. I have more lenses and lens choices for MFT than anything else. I used to be a Canon shooter for years, but when I switched to MFT I went all-in, and couldn't be happier.
Sony, like GoPro, is my vlogging solution, and for the times I want full frame video. However, I never enjoy using Sony, like I enjoy using Panasonic. For Sony I use a mix of Sony and Sigma E mount, with adapters and speedboosters for Zeiss ZF2, and EF.
I still shoot film on Nikon, and that is why I have the Zeiss lenses in F mount. Those Zeiss lenses cost a small fortune spread over time, but I am so glad I have them, and they adapt to both my digital camera systems, and I love them for film as well.
I love my Olympus lenses, but video limitations means I have never been tempted by Olympus cameras. The rumored G9 Mark 2 that is expected in the near future may well be what we are all looking for, if, as expected, it will be the first Lumix MFT camera with phase detect AF. That will mean Olympus level AF with Olympus level stabilization, but Lumix level video features. I can't wait. The current G9 has been my favorite camera for years, a Mark 2 with PDAF will be camera heaven for me. And I will be able to keep using all those brilliant MFT lenses.

Peter, I am a long time "Olympus loyalist" since the 1970s. I have always admired Olympus for their innovation and willingness to not simply copy the "big boys". In the film era, my camera was the Olympus OM-2S. I have many lenses, but never felt the need to buy another body. With digital, at the time (2003), I chose for my first digital camera the Minolta Dimage 7i, which I loved and still do. But then I returned to Olympus with the E-330, and subsequently the E-510. First, Minolta went "tits up", then Olympus moved away from Four Thirds (books could be written). I enthusiastically embraced "Micro Four Thirds" (what it should have been in the first place). But now, as superior as it is in so many ways, I fear for the future of "MFT". Most people (not just Americans) I suspect will always accept that "bigger is better". Therefore, I think Olympus (and to a lesser extend Panasonic with their own MFT), is doomed. I am so sorry to say, but I think Olympus will soon be dead!

I could never be a brand ambassador. I want to be free to voice any mistakes that have been made. When I owned Canon, I was vocal when they did completely stupid things with a camera or other product. Olympus took way too long to have a favorites menu for common used setting. Not being able to load firmware via SD card or save setting of the camera to memory card. My Canon 30D had these features back in 2007. I am very happy with my OM-1 camera and still have the Olympus E-M1x that I bought after the price drop. The integrated grip was so nice and being able to change both batteries from one section was wonderful.

I love my em 5 mark 3 and 1. For me the proposition is to get a camera with weather sealing and stabilization for much less than 1k usd. If I had the money to go for an OM-1, it is a much harder decision because other cameras at that price would give me more resolution and better low light performance. I would still probably would like to see the performance of a pro lens in m43, because the budget lenses get really hurt by the small apertures, but I have one f1.7 prime, and that changes what I can do with micro four thirds significantly.

I can completely see a market for an OM10. Not everyone desires weather sealing. But people like myself want a camera like the E-P7 but with a viewfinder and the same small size factor for street photography. Currently the E-M10 mk2 is selling like hotcakes on the secondhand market. If OMS just did another mk2 but with the 20mp sensor and without trying to compete with the smartphone, but instead the Ricoh [GR] or the Fuji it would be I think, very successful.

The 90/3.5 Macro is an amazing and fun lens. I am enjoying going out and photographing bugs
You forgot the OM System 40-150/4.0 lens.
I am guessing that OM System will release a prime lens before the two telephoto zooms. Sigma has the patent for the 20/1.4. Plus the 20/1.4 is nade in Japan. They also have patents for three other MFT lenses. They are a 10/1.4, 35/1.4 and the 40/1.4. I am guessing one of these three will be released later this year.

Even my Leica D-Lux 3 with shooting in Raw produces some extremely clear and amazing images. The colors are amazing, especially how it captures the blue of the sky. I also wonder if there is a need for the OM-10, but I don't follow your reasoning about smartphones. There is another market now, content creators. If they put the OM-5 guts in the E-P7 body, that would be a nice option. That could double as a nice street camera too. If they went back to their m43 roots and provided a tilting EVF, they could make extra cash off from those sales. What I am also saying here is, don't forget this lower end market because it is a way to get people into the system and to have a niche there too. The small lenses exist. If they updated the 9-18 f4-5.6 lens, that would help. Keep the optics, make it from modern plastic, don't have that catch/lock. Anyhow, just some ideas.

Critical thinking skills? Lack of gullibility?
Ambassadors are part of a brand's advertising.
It's not unique to Peter, OMD or photography.
Companies reward those who speak favorably of their products.
We, as consumers, need to consider those favorable comments could be motivated by "special deals" that us normal consumers don't get.
Countless websites have people who speak favorably of products in return for some sort of compensation.
      To believe otherwise is foolish.
There's a guy on DPR who spoke highly of a product repeatedly then finally admitted he had an existing business relationship with the company whose products he endorsed.

Everything Peter has said in any video for which I have that equipment has matched my experience. The same is true of Robin Wong. I don't always agree with either of them on their personal preferences, but that's not an issue of honesty - just candor. Just because both were, and now are not, Olympus/OMDS Brand Ambassadors doesn't make me trust them more or less. I don't assume everyone with some product affiliation has been bought off. In fact, if you look at Peter (and I'll include Robin Wong in this) both are professional photographers who pay their bills with their work for customers - not from their TH-cam videos. And therein lies the corollary to your inherent distrust of those will affiliations - not everyone who appears to be unaffiliated is either without bias or competent enough that their opinions should be valued. That's why I like my system of "reading" the presenter, then verifying their information against other sources and my own experience. To each their own.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Interesting conversation. Ambassadors usually have more knowledge of the gear they are representing. The info about the gear, the reason something is the way it is is shared. The philosophy of the ideas are shared. A gear reviewer that is not an Ambassador might not have access to that information. The wise thing is to watch video from many different reviewers. That is what I do all the time.
Then there is the question about the possible bias or bad beef between the reviewer and the brand. Usually that fact is not shared like the fact if someone is an Ambassador. I know a few cases like this in another field than photography. There are a few reviewers that have bad relationships with a company and are making bad reviews of their products. The audience does not know about this bias at all. Most think they are honest, but they are not. It might go both ways.

If they could toughen up the TG7 line so no underwater housing was necessary they would own the UW market. For the OM cameras, they need to make the menus more intuitive, organized, and more user friendly. But the pot of gold is to make the ultimate blogger camera/system. Huge changes in this market are a problem for the big 3 as well.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

It can go quite deep without a housing. 15m is the limit. I think it enough for most. If one needs to go deeper there are better solutions. Of course those need a housing too.

I don't quite get the idea that brand ambassadors "lie" about their cameras and experiences with them. I mean, I get it sort of. But the way I understand brand ambassadors is that they only focus on one specific brand, while being honest about it. So I would never expect an OM ambassador to talk about, for example, Sony, but I would expect him/her to be honest about the gear used.

Since getting my OM-5 and taking it to Canada 🏔️ for my last holiday, goodness I’m impressed. I love handheld high-res outdoors and I have been burned for this last time. Scene modes for indoors shots for this newbie. Lovely and compact and so nice in the hand. Doesn’t feel plasticity and I love the control wheels. I have used the smartphone app to take portraits. And all that’s missing is the OM-1 menu system, or easier access to some of the special modes. But to be fair it wasn’t that hard. Was amazed to be using Live ND on waterfalls, and it worked. Excited to try Starry Sky when the Milky Way comes this way. This camera hits all my points, including low light where the stabilisation actually worked 🤩.

I bought an X-h2 while my olympus stuff was sent for warranty for a few weeks. It wasnt that great, it missed focus a fair bit. Images were noisy, and with the 90mm f2 it didnt resolve much more resolution than om-1 with pro lenses in daylight. in low light there was no difference. The fuji lens choices were limited, their long wildlife lens choices are not up to standard. It didnt make me want to pick it up. The film recipes are not something that I could shoot only jpeg for as the colour output varied wildly for subject and scenes. I could not pin down an output 'style' becasue the recipe reacts so differently with available light. and the raw file size being much bigger and takes understandably longer to noise process (which always had to be done).
Images were soft. This was my second trial with fuji, last time was X-T3 not long after release. It barely had any critical focus, not a system for pixel peepers!
I would go back to sony FF before anything else IF they just worked on their AI focus stuff.

@@cameronm5248 yes on Fuji the dynamic range setting is hard to defeat and it got the better of me. It also raises the base iso setting, which is counterintuitive (high iso typically has less DR by 2-4 stops). I shoot raw so although I turn off noise reduction in camera I assume my raws weren't ever affected (but maybe wrong). All my noise reduction was in post by DxO.

Interested in buying an OM5 or similar camera, but I have never actually handled one. Build quality is extremely important to me and I’m skeptical about plastic or polycarbonate camera bodies.
