Dude you have the best looking McFarlane BVS on earth right now. I will have to follow these steps but wow and the reference from the guide is very well present here, awesome!
Thanks so much! I am very honored by your kind words. Remember, YOU TOO can have this cool a BVS figure! Obviously, it is possible! I mean, this is the same figure you have, same head, same parts, if you have it out of box. Just take time and make the task fun and simple! You might can try (or buy on Ebay) a pleather cape...but, at least the cloth cape it comes with is very nice! Also, it's amazing what a good misting spray of Mr Hobby Mr Super Clear Matt finish does for it! I call it "De-Toying Spray!" Works every time!😜👍
@@LesWalker2023 Awesome! You will probably be the first to put one out on TH-cam! Did you squish his head inward a bit, to reduce how thin his head looked?
Thanks so much! It may simply be the nuances. I have painted and done stuff like this for so long, I can't remember when I didn't. I am sure I've picked up some intangible lessons in there, that may or may not show up. Then again, we always like it when someone else cooks for us, so it could be you are simply being hard on yourself! 😉
Congratulations bro, the work you did on this figure was incredible, congratulations on the result, a figure that was already top of the line is simply fantastic now.
I get you! There are several out there now, with new ones coming almost daily it seems. I am happy with this one, for the price, and that it is a McFarlane one, which I collect. But, if you are still shopping, check out the new fond joy 9th scale BVS figure that may be really cool! Best of luck!
Removed the head and neck pig, and dipped the upper body in very hot water (microwave in a cup for 2 min! It is HOT!) for about 30 sconds or so, dried it, and SLOWLY pried the cowl off, starting at the back, and trimming the inner neck post when it didn't let loose. (There is a sort of pin within a pin). Once removed, I removed the cloth cape, then I dremelled a sort of trench in the front side for the wire in the cape to fit into. (Refer to my 89 Keaton McFarlane redo video and it better shows what I did!) Hope this helps.
Looks fantastic. Did you not repaint the blue/grey base color first? Or did you purely dry brush with dark grey over the top of the orginal blue/grey color?
Good eyes! I simply drybrushed the dark grey color (Vallejo Dark Grey) over the existing paint, and extended that to the not touched up backside. The color should be a total sort of darker cool blue grey when finished. Thanks for the comment!
This is amazing! The colors, head placement & cape are spot on. Really wish this is how it would've looked like straight out the box, since it's in my top 3 favorite Bat suits. Also I believe the batarang he comes with shouldn't be so huge.
Hope. No head swap. I ALMOST did, with another brand almost perfectly scaled head from an older Justice League figure, that had a great likeness, but then I thought about it, and said, no, this is all McFarlane or not at all. And, he just works better on the shorter neck. I did paint a little black into the sides of the mask at the face area, narrowing the opening for the face. That may have helped the likeness some.
Cut it out on my table and simply ran a thin track of some Fabric-Tac glue on the outer seam, about half an inch wide, then set my wire (pulled from a phone line wire) in the middle of that and folded it over, pressing all the way. Came out pretty well. I am not a pro cape maker, they are on Ebay, and I have some of the ones out there, but I am happy with how mine came out. Thanks for commenting!
Best I can remember is it was a fairly fine textured, thin pleather I got at a Joanns fabrics store. Can't remember specifically, but it felt very fine, and hangs well without fraying. Best I can do for now. Best of luck finding some, it is out there!
Looks good. Cape looks too shiny and pristine. Needs 5oclock shadow. But def better than how it comes stock. What's the line across the top of his abs, looks like a cut?
I mention (too late ) in my comments, that I didn't notice that open wound of a seam gap in the upper abdominal piece. In normal poses, it mostly gets hidden by the upper part, but when I shot this, there is it is for all to see! lol! As for the 5oclock shadow, bingo! You got me! I forgot that too. And, I thought to spray the cape with my dullcoat, and forgot. So, I have to dub you, "Sharp Eyes" because you saw all that. SO, to you kids out there reworking your figure, do those things too, putty and paint the seam, dull the cape and add some 5oclock (which I may go back and do yet...) and THEN, you have a truly reworked figure! ✌😉
@@LesWalker2023 might not even have to bother. There's a Chinese company called "fondjoy" that offers a Batfleck that comes stock with all the mods you made. Mcfarlane could be in trouble
I'll try. I plan on shortening the Keaton 89 neck pin, so yeah, if I can, I will. My video abilities are quite limited, but I will try. Thanks for commenting!
Just did a quick vid of what I did to this particular figure's neck pig. I didn't have a new one to rework, so I show exactly what I used, tools, materials, method etc. It should be a help to you and anyone else when I post it! Look for it soon! 🙂
It’s like paying $20 for a burger, but then you need to re-heat the meat, toast the but and replace the lettuce. Guess if that’s ok by you, then have-at-it🤷🏻♂️
Upgrading is fun for me. It's not for everyone, but I love it, since I have yet to ever find a figure or model or whatever, that was just right out of the box. So, I am sorta made for that kinda thing. Not everyone is. I can see how your logic would work for those that do not nor do not want to alter their acquisitions. 😉
Yep that neck adjustment makes it look 100 times better
Batfleck is the GOAT. That suit is by far the best live action. Excellent repainted custom.
Man that's perfect... wit the face rework he looks just like Ben. 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much!

Man you really made the figure perfect! Congrats you are very talented
Very kind! I tried to fix the old boy! He is in there, just gotta dig him out! 😁
Always do an excellent job on the figures 👍🏼

Awesome job, now it looks like a good figure
This is awesome, going to do this to mine when I get one.
wow Les Walker, I purchased some custom head sculpts from you long time ago, great work on this batman,I need to find myself a nice cape like that
Glad I could be of service. There are some great cape makers out there. I use Batgirl31 a lot. And there are others that are superb! Good luck!
Beautiful work, wish I could get this one! Haven’t settled on an Affleck that I like

What paint you use for the grey?
Vallejo acrylic Dark Grey, (Vallejo paint number 70.994)
Thank you! Did you just do a wash? Or paint the whole fig?
Good work. How did you do your wired cape? Did you just use fabric glue, or another method?

Damn straight on fixing that neck!!! I said that all along. Did you just cut and Re glue the neck pin?
Yep! One simple fix leads to a much better figure!
Where did you get the head of this figure?
It's the head that came with it.
