We will often add new videos of our individual and collective works for the amusement of those that might be interested. We are both trained artists. Les went to Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA, and Bonnie went to Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, FL. We share a shop in a converted bedroom in our apartment in our North Georgia mountains home, and there we create the custom items you will see in videos on our channel. Celebrating 50 Years of JAWS - pt 1 - McFarlane's 2001 JAWS Movie Manics Boxed Shark and Orca Set!
50 Years! This year it will be 50 years of my All-Time Favorite Movie JAWS! And to start my collectibles Celebration, I bring you my repainted McFarlane JAWS Movie Maniacs Boxed Set!
At the time, back in 2001, when McFarlane Toys was only known for the Spawn series, and Movie Maniacs, and a few other limited series of figures and toys, they came out with this doozy, the Boxed set Movie Maniacs JAWS scene! With Bruce the Shark attacking the sinking Orca, in almost all of it's glory! What a piece!
It has stood in for the boat for so long, for me, that I haven't tried nearly hard enough to get a nicer, stand along Orca, and I still may...but this one does still satisfy, even after all these years!
The shark was never all that great. It was ok. A bit off in the basic shape, and his dorsal fin was not right, and he is off the deck a bit too far, but for the times, we were glad to have it!
So, I buckled down and repainted it once. And have since repainted the shark two more times, adding details and harpoons and other stuff to make him a bit more integrated into the scene.
The water was a bit choppy too, but I sort of got that, and went with it. Only recently, since getting another Bruce model, have I sought to improve the water as best I could.
I did that with Vallejo Transparent Blue, and a little bit of Burnt Umber, mixed, and that with a heaping amount of Intermediate Gauzy Shine Enhancer as a carrier medium. I SLOSHED it on! lol!
Layers and layers, and lightened up on the whitecaps on the water.
For the boat details, I dirtied it a bit from the base paint, added clear red to the redder parts, as they were a bit brown to me. And added more nautical dirt and grime here and there. Added the Massachusetts boat ID number to both sides of the bow, and of course, used thinner, darker thread to do my rigging on the boat.
There were more bits here and there, but all in all, I am happy with how it came out. I wish I could get into the cabin without breaking anything, and paint up and better detail that interior, but opted to let that go, as you can't see it too well anyway.
I need to add some area and reshape the prow a bit, as it had a more straight line front end, and not the gentle curved back prow on the toy. A small thing, but it annoys me every time I look at it. To fix that will take some resculpting. Maybe I will get that done this year.
To sort of finalize and trim the piece better, I added a band of Vallejo Bronze to the edges, and felt that added some class to the piece, and also makes it more visually compatible with how i did the base for my Stannarts Bruce model that I recently acquired and finished.
So, now they are more of a set.
I may some day, get a nicer Orca model kit. It would be nice.
All that leaves me is my hopes for NECA to get done with the 8 inch figure scale Bruce, which will be about 30 inches long for sure! And I HOPE, a Brody figure to round out the set.
So, that's PART 1 of my 2025 personal Jaws collectibles series! More to come throughout the year!

Batman Triumphant Custom Figures THE SCARECROW & HARLEY QUINN Made like McFarlane DC Multiverse

I finally got my conjectural movie Batman Triumphant set of four McFarlane style figures finished! One of my most anticipated figures is back, the 1954 Universal monster classic, Creature from the Black Lagoon 1/6 scale figure is mastered by Mondo! What to do with the leftover custom Panther Suit Batman figure parts? Don't waste them! Make another Batman! So I did, from an imaginary movie, Batman Triumphant! This looks anout like what anybody eould hope for 👍 The cape , was it a single piece of fabric or was it two ply for the wire ? Im guessing you removed it instead trimming it while still on the figure. Either way ,great job
oh man i´m tempted to do this with mine
Super looking King Tiger!
How did you prep it? Looks a million times better 👍
I have the Neca CR Superman ,7 inch and 18 inch. I think I'll pass on the McFarlane
If I had those two I wouldn't unless you just want an extra one around. That 18 is a nice figure!
Hello Les ! Still a great looking shark and boat model set that still holds up after 24 years ! The first Jaws is a great horror classic, I never bothered to watch any of the sequels as they got worse and worse.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, the sequels got consistently worse as they went! lol!
Hello Les ! Very nice paint work on the figures. I really liked the weapon that you gave to Two-Face & the added silver colour on his left glove and his left shoe ! I added two guns on my Two-Face from the Mcfarlane & NECA T-800s from T2. I am thinking of painting them in gold or silver so it will fit in better with the style and bright colours of the Schumacher Batman films. Mcfarlane are going to release a single edition of Mr. Freeze from batman and Robin, and also a new Michael Keaton Batman from the first Batman movie with more weapons and greater details to his weapons and costume ! Mr freeze will have a base with a light LED ferature so he can actually glow in the dark ! Hopefully we will get something from batman Returns in the future aswell. NECA did produce the fantastic Penguin and Catwoman in 1/4 scale, but it would be nice to have smaller figures that goes with the Batman and Robin & Batman Forever action figures. Hot Toys has also made their own Batman and Robin figures and I belive that Dragon Toys made their own version of Mr. Freeze, calling him Dr. Zero. Hopefully some company will release a Batgirl, Poison Ivy and Bane with coolbackdrops and bases in the future aswell. Say what you will about these old school Batman movies, they where always great to look at, and that really lends itself to some great looking action figures !
Well said! And I agree. I think those older movies have held up well in time. And, they are very different than the modern stuff. Gives you something different if you want, and some great toys for sure! I think that McFarlane is going backwards in time with their movie releases, and we will see a nice set of Batman Returns announced soon. I betcha! Then, of course, buckle up for the eventual '89 set! That should rock!
Not a good head sculpt.
Not the best for sure. Not awful, but not what it could have been.
If only the nose wasn't so fat. McFarlane came close, but didn't nail the likeness.
I agree. I may come back and try to trim the width of the nose myself. Tricky operation, but possible.
Very good job done to overhaul the figure did you mix all 3 colors then you used a paintbrush to paint the blue costume parts? 👍😉
Thanks! I tried to match the blue paint to the fabric as best I could, (experimentation!) then repainted the blue costume parts. I masked the cape and belt and then sprayed all the painted and the unpainted grey plastic areas, with Mr Hobby Mr Super Clear MATT and then did all the touchups. Trimmed the cape length some also.
Ok sounds good I would mix all 3 colors then use a paintbrush to paint the blue costume parts and trimm the cape 😉
Damn. That looks super cool. Very well painted too.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it!
Dude this is terrific!!! the washes are absolutely perfect
Thanks, I am really proud of how they came out!
Nicely Done!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
just. joined. your. channel. good. video. Love. SUPERMAN. Have a. good. week
Thanks! And you, too!
Hi Les you did an outstanding job on the model, just received my model. Was wondering what color did you use on the jaw and inside the mouth? That color is the best I have seen. Also did you use an airbrush on the body or a rattle can. Thanks for any info you can give me
Fantastic news! Congratuations on acquiring one of the best 3D renditions of Bruce ever crafted! Colors: I went with Vallejo acrylic paints, and their BLACK RED is the red base I used in the mouth. Paint it all that, then come back with a light tan or light sand mix for the ridged jaw areas, working up to clean IVORY for the teeth. All blends and washes. I never use an airbrush. And for what it's worth, I hate rattle cans. That does mean I hand painted all the surfaces of the shark, and hand blended them. It does take time, but for me, it's the result that matters, not the method. Hand painting allows me more control over the surfaces. As for main colors on his exterior, DO NOT USE WHITE for the bottom! Use, as a base, WHITE GREY. It will look right. The ivory painted teeth should be slightly brighter than the skin. As for the grey top, I prefer NEUTRAL GREY mixed with the WHITE GREY from below. Add a little BURNT UMBER dark brown to the grey to warm it up a little. Best I can do. DO NOT RATTLE CAN ANYTHING! lol! Thanks for commenting and GOOD LUCK! Keep me posted! (Oh and post painting, spray the exterior with Mr Hobby Mr Super Clear MATT finish spray! Locks that paint down! )
Great to see this nostalgic piece! Fantastic work on the improvements! Iconic scene and iconic toy!!
LO QUIERO COMPRAR.🤩🦸♂️
Can't have this one! 😉Hope you find one online or at a store soon! Best of luck!
I love these movie figures! I’d like to get them all. I’m glad McFarlane is making them for the movies. Great work Les customizing and improving them! I’ve always been a huge fan of yours!
Mike Buckley! You are a wonderful guy! So glad to see you in the world again! One of my favorite people! Thanks for the kind words!
Incredible work as always Les! I’ve got the set of carded figures of Batman, Robin, Joker, Julie Newmar as Catwoman, and Penguin that McFarlane made. I’d like to get those newer Adam West one. I’ll have to try repaints again! It’s been a very long time since I have done them.
Thanks so much! That West set is worth getting a hold of, if you can, for the nostalgia factor.
I have this set, unfortunately I haven’t been kind to it over the years and it’s in storage in my garage, and I’m sure the flag broke off the boat. I need to get this out of storage and set it up again. Of course looking at a new one in package on EBay is going for insane prices. I do also have the Funko and reaction sets still in packaging.
God bless Funko! Find this one and dust it off, and you will be so glad. I was. (Mine sat in storage forever)
@@LesWalker2023I’m surprised Funko could secure the likeness for Roy Scheider but Neca or McFarlane either couldn’t or wouldn’t. It’s a shame really because I had refused to buy those Neca figures of Quint and Hooper that came out a few years ago after they failed to get his likeness, even though I remember his figure even went on pre-order but got cancelled.
@@randomkillerx2157 Seriously! I am stymied at how we had it, then we didn't. I would think they (NECA) would get the license first, then sculpt the likeness and produce the figure. Somehow, maybe they did, but the Scheider estate didn't like the figure? No one at NECA has really come out with the definitive answer. If his family is keeping his likeness in mothballs, there must be a reason. Brody is THE key character in the movie, no matter how much Quint is loved, and we need him for the set. It's only printing money for them, because he will sell! So I am not sure what the story is. SO frustrated for NECA and for us. It is not resolved in my book! I want Chief Brody, Chumming Brody, End of movie/mast climbing Brody, the works!
Hi Les! This is Mike Buckley! Your old friend from the Sideshow Freaks message board who you made one of these incredible figures for years ago! I still have it, and still love it! It’s one of my favorite figures! It’d be great to get in touch with you again soon! I just found your TH-cam channel today!
the painting is awesome. could you make a video about it, how you did it and which tools do you use? Is it airbrush or paintbrush? thx
Thanks for the kind words. I hand paint everything, so this one is hand painted as well. I might go back this year and cover some techniques I used a a few items, this one would be a good one. But an in progress type video is out of my means at present. I may can still go back and discuss sort of, what I did. Thanks for the comment!
How do u deal with paint rub??
One of the reasons I use Mr Hobby Mr Superclear Matt spray, is because it is a resin based material, not a paint, that coats and protects both any paintwork, and the subsurface that is painted. When it sets up, it has some limited protection from rubbing on the outer surface. Also, when i can, I trim down the inner areas of sockets and rims of body parts, that might make contact, and try to make sure they don't touch as much. Dosn't always work, but the results are worth the work.
The Orca I bought was from Nautimall. There was another one but it was Out of Stock. It looked better had a proper Quint seat facing the right way.
The Chief looks like Brains from the Thiunderbirds.
LOL! I never noticed that!
Thats Jawsome mate. I just got my Orca diecast model. Not exactly what it was like in movie. Only 4 barrels up front. And they are brown not yellow & black. There is a barrel up on the flydeck. The rear deck is short. Quints chair is facing the wrong way & in wrong position. When you put rod in holder the reel hangs over the transom. Havent done any modeling for ages. But will chang a few things.
Awesome! Or yeah, Jawsome! I so need a nice Orca kit, and there are a few online, but are hard to find and get hold of. Not easy orders type of thing. Great work in getting one though!
I'm guessing the hands are from a different Vader (MMS388)? Curious, because I want to switch out the original hands. Want to make sure the fit/compatible. By the way, this is my favorite look, too. His robe/tabbard over the armor just makes the figure look awesome!
maybe just me, but looks nothing like CR. Joints are awful. McFarlane hasnt been good since mid 2ks. I think the original "4 Horseman" designers left. His original Movie Maniacs series, Austin Powers series, and Music Series was tip top and game changers. Seems he went back in time before prior to his notching the belt. Looks like he has eyeliner and blush on...... I prefer his statue figures (joints are not as visalble). Again, my opinion.
Hey, these things matter! And to a point, I agree with you. There are many DC Direct figures I like better than Mcf! Good post! Thanks for the honesty!
So cool Les! Reeves is my favorite of all time. Well done :)
I don't know if you said that on the video, because I stopped it at 6:02, 'cause I had other things to do...but I'm...happy with what you did with the eyes, because the original, doesn't ACTUALLY have a "looking up" face. Which was a pretty big issue...
Oh by the way, Happy New Year, and sorry for my manners...🤭
Brandon Routh was amazing!
I sincerely hope McFarlane does a Routh Superman figure! I will get one if they do.
Yes, he was. But unfortunately, he was also underrated...
Hi Les, new viewer/subscriber. First watched video of yours. I appreciated your distinction between aesthetics and manufacturing design limitations, also since this is a $30ish price tag. McFarlane definitely has had quite a few great releases this is one of them. I quickly scrolled through some of your uploaded video titles and wondering if you've documented any of your action figure "hands on" process, like the dis-assembly re-assembly, the painting process, the tools you use and ect. If you already have a video like this let me know which one, thanks.
Welcome in! The water is warm, and not because it's been peed in!🤪 lol! No, seriously, I have an outdated and limited tech means of recording, so I do not, as yet, have long enough videos to show you how I truly work. I need to. Badly. I am hoping to really do that this year. But, if you click on my Playlists, the HOW TO series (there's only 5 or so thus far, and they are limited) are my meager way of showing a few things off. I need to do a nice vid, with a new figure, and do a start to finish redo. I plan to. I just got a nice Batman that I really want to try that on, so look for that soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions, any, ask. I will do my best to help with what I do. For now, no matter what water based acrylic paints you use ( For all toy plastics PVC or ABS, I use Vallejo brand found at hobby shops), I suggest investing in Mr Hobby Mr Super Clear MATT finish spray, in the grey can. Costs around $12 a can, and try and find some Intermediate Gauzy Shine Enhancer in the green bottle. With those two products, you can about finish anything. I hand paint, and do not airbrush, and I still get near perfect finishes. I prefer the control of hand painted, and can do almost anything an airbrush can. Enough of that. Look at those vids, and ask away! And WELCOME! 😉
It looks Great!😃⭐⭐⭐⭐🦸🌄🥲
Not only is your painting fantastic but Im always impressed by your knowledge on these figures.
Thanks so much my brother! I appreciate that, coming from a master modeler!🤟😎
Good video. Good paint job. What brand matte spray do you use?
Thanks. I do show it in this video. I should in every vid! lol! Mr Hobby Mr Super Clear MATT. It's a resin, made in Japan. Covers just about anything, especially toy plastic, which is hard to coat with anything, even acrylic paint. For a unified fabric finish, I usually spray a mist coat over my first coat. Makes the surface micro pebbly, which makes it look more like cloth. Just account for joints where it may rub. I trim away some of the inside areas so it is less likely to touch. Not guaranteed, but it works most of the time.
@LesWalker2023 wow fantastic thank you. Sorry because I was half listening as I was driving. Previously thought that testors matte acrylic finish was the best, But admittedly I've been underwhelmed with results. Japan makes great stuff especially for toys and I have to try that. Thanks for the tip. So you say you spray it over your first coat. Do you go back and then paint over the finish one more time with a dry brush?
@@kobocopcustoms Here's the thing, on some toys, it helps to put a coat on first, then repaint, then spray. I always post coat a toy no matter what. But, it's a coverage strategy. Some areas are not flat, and I either leave them alone, (belts sometimes, and other select surfaces) and if it is glossy, or even leathery, I use layers of Intermediate Gauzy Shine Enhancer, hand applied, to like eyes, and metallic parts, in this figure's case, his boots, which kinda look plastic, so you can spray them and just recoat with gloss. Testors and other brands are often NOT GOOD, in that they can break down over time, and get sticky. Even if it's a flat coat. That's because they are paint. Mr Hobby sprays are generally not paint so much as a resin coat. Areas I over spray on, get thick with it, and they get milky and plastic like. Practice on something else if need be.
@LesWalker2023 sounds like a perfect product that makes sense. I screwed up a custom I made by making it sticky with mod podge. I think it's basically Elmer's glue in aerosol form. But thanks for the tips here's one for you. Give Pledge floor Care finish a try for your gloss coat. Buy it once and I'll probably last you decades
@@kobocopcustoms I have, and I do like Pledge, but I find that Intermediate Gauzy is more controllable, and is self-leveling. It also provides a wonderful protective coat that waxes do not. You can even use Gauzy on top of Molotow Liquid Chrome and it won't grey it out like other coatings do. It keeps the chrome aspect and can be handled. But, thanks for the reference. A lot of folks don't know that one!
NECA's and Mezco's are still the best Reeves figures.
I wish they were in the larger 7 inch scale though.
Thighs too thin and nose too wide. Otherwise excellent. Needs a smiling alternate head.
Hadn't noticed the nose before. Good call!
To me it is a good memory of a hard working, dedicated man. It brings me some good memories. I don't want to give too much attention to it, although I pre ordered the figure. All tribute must be made to only One.
Well said.
I've gotta get me one of these!!! Awesome tribute to an awesome man!! Love the touch ups you did!! Reeve is the BEST Superman!!!
I was eagerly awaiting your Reeve repaint. The head really needs a repaint. The first thing I’m going to do when I get this is spray him with the Mr. Super Clear to get rid of that shininess. How hard is it to remove the cape? Can’t wait to see your Platinum Evil Superman repaint.
🤓 DecDave! I can always count on you to say something fun! The head needs more than a repaint, it needs even-ing up! It's unfortunate that it's not balanced and more symmetrical. The left side of his face is quite a bit bigger than the right, and paint can't really fix that. A better headsculpt (with a more subtle chin) can. As for the Evil version, I am thinking about it. He would need a new, better cape, and since I have yet to remove one from this figure body design, we'll have to wait and see who gets it done first. It will involve some deep heating in very hot water, to remove that neck. We shall see. But, no matter what, SPRAY that rascal! He needs a shine tone down! And mist it second coat, so it will sort of build up some texture. I had to really scoop out the shoulders and joints though, so the pieces move without completely scraping the paint, or spray off. Make notes and best of luck!
Love what you've done!
Thanks, buddy! 😉👍
Hi! Great job. I’m actually working on my custom of the same figure. I already sanded the bat symbols on the boots. My question to you is, how did you attach the belt parts to the actual belt? Thanks!
Just rolled some two part epoxy (On a sheet of wax paper) into the shapes, let them setup, and superglue gelled them into each spot. Made sure they were narrow enough to fit in the seamlines at the top and bottom edges of the belt, but otherwise, easy stuff. Superglue gel. Use BSi Insta-set for ease of placement etc. (I actually made my pouches a little bit too large, so make your's smaller and it should work perfectly. )
@ thank you so much 😊
God damm it generally speaking I don't like to alter my figs for several reasons but in this case I might have to make an exception due to the fact that ur looks alot better than the original. That's some nice work there boys (Simpsons).
Thanks! Have no fear about altering figures. I am currently altering the heck out of my McFarlane Reeve Superman. No worries here! They are just.....toys....after all. You can always get another one!
Fantastic figure! From the greatest epic of gothic horror to ever grace the screen!! Gothic horror as we know it owes everything to the German expressionism of F.W. Murnau and the acting of Max Shrek!! Love your Neca figure! Love mine too! Merry Christmas my friend!!! Can’t wait to see the newest version of Nos on the big screen!!
This pegasus great white looks exactly like the real shark. i mean the face, the eyes, jaw just everything. the scale between the model and the cage is facination, but when a great whit would be 20 feet, that was scary as hell, when you see one of them beneath the water.
Awesome! I take it you've seen one in real life? Thanks for the kind words and yes, this Pegasus model is an amazing sculpt! Moment I saw it, I had to have it!
