    These videos never tell how to get in and out of a PICKUP TRUCK without breaking 90 degrees... guess I'll have to make a video. It's tricky but I practiced about a month before my surgery & proved I could do it. To get in, you first push your seat back as far as you can to allow room to get in without beding forward. Back up to the passenger door, put your non-op foot on the running board or bar, hold onto the handle or top of the passenger seat, push up with your good leg, and ease your butt up to the back of the seat (still facing out). Then push your butt back a little and carefully swing your operative leg into the truck, without bending forward and breaking your 90 degrees. Fasten your seat belt! To get out just reverse the process, putting your seat back to allow for room.

    In all the videos I've seen the surgical leg is always the right. My surgical leg is going to be my left leg.

    How does a person get into the passenger seat when their left hip was replaced?

    When the first lady puts the wedged shaped cushion in the car. She puts it in the wrong way from back to front. Should have low end to front of car.

      Hi John, The cushion that was placed in the car was not wedge shaped. The depth of it was 4" front to back. I do agree with you though, that if it is a wedge cushion, then the narrower part should be towards the front of the seat. I usually tell people to avoid deep bucket seats, but if they have no other choice, they can use a wedge cushion or place a small hand towel under the basic cushion to fill in the bucket. Hope this helps clarify the video.

    What if it’s the LEFT hip?

  • @lindakacser6497
    @lindakacser6497 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    WHAT ABOUT A LEFT HIP? indeed, as one looks at this youtube for the right hip, during the actual entering weight is put on the entering foot, but if that is the left foot - OOPS.

    After a full recovery, is it safe to break that 90 degree?

    • @alexandroskamatselos1780
      @alexandroskamatselos1780 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hip precautions must be followed for 6 weeks after surgery usually (that's what the orthopedic books are writing, like Brotzman's). The most important one is the avoidance of the adduction from my experience.

    Ok this person broke the 90 degrees in getting out of the car... this car is too low! My surgeon said he prefers his patients to go home in a higjer up vehicle than a low one, for this very reason - the lowness of the car causes the person to bend forward & break the 90 degree rule.
