He wouldn’t be that desirable if he was that disgusting. He’s meant to be rough and strange looking, but still attractive in a way. W3 and even W2 captured that pretty well.

Hi Rob! I understand that this game did not age well. But please give it a chance! It still has this beautiful slavic world. I would love to see you play it.
Witcher1 is basically a total conversion mod of Neverwinter nights. If you press F1 you can play with a top down view with mouse only just like those older rpgs. It's actually much nicer that way in my opinion. The over the shoulder third person feels like late addition to this game that's built on a top/isometric view rpg game engine.
IMO Witcher 1 is the best game out of three in terms of atmosphere and plot, but lacks in gameplay in many parts (still better than witcher 2, which i wholeheartedly despise for horrible gameplay). Btw coombat becomes hilarious when you get to high levels in first witcher 1, especially against many enemies
Not sure if you figured it out yet (I paid only half attention to the video as I was playing games myself), but when fighting you have to click with left button at the moment when this fire around mouse cursor appears. In order to do combo hits, if you click too early it cancels previous attack and starts the attack from scratch. (Edit: also if your attacks fail at the beginning of the animation often then it might mean that you have wrong style active)
Gotta remember development first whole project cdpr, based on another engine, on technology that's mostly bootlegged, this was reminiscent of teenager/bedroom coder single or partner auteur game development of the 80s that seemed lost and drowned by corporations development styles. This didn't look as good or play as good as it's peers but it had * the thing * that makes great things iconic. It frustrated me no end day 1, I'm not blinded by nostalgia but I was able to suspend my disbelief and immerse and for me that's why I have been doing this for 40 years. ❤
Tbh the difficult part is only KM part. It's the moment to get used to the mechanics we're not used to anymore. The village and Visima part is really easy. At least it was for me. And after changing options you need to accept it ^^
I played w3 first then 1 and 2 because I only knew about the 3rd game, didn't even know books existed. I was reluctant to play w1 because the old graphics hurt my eyes but I loved the game. Playing it definitely made me more willing to try older games.
Oh wow, I didn't expect that 😂To be honest, The Witcher 3 is one of the best games of all time, but the first one has an unmatched sentimental value to me. I played it when I was 11 or so, over and over again, and it's mindblowing to think the combat mechanic and graphics were not an issue back then. Now it looks like a horror game 😅 I can only imagine how much of a generational jump it is to someone playing it now, especially fresh after finishing TW3, but give it a chance. It has its charms. Atmosphere for one.
Not sure if you ever played NeverWinter Nights by Bioware, Top down DnD game. But basically, Witcher 1 is made on the same engine they took from BioWare. So some design choices start to make sense when playing as a top down RPG.
It’s also the closest to book Geralt we ever get. It’s a shame they really pulled back on Geralts dialogue by Witcher 3. He’s constantly talking in the books.
The combat is easy once you figure it out. Just click at the right times, instead of spamming. It really plays more like a classic RPG, so to hit chance and dodge are all stats and dice rolls. The second act drags, but after that it's nearly smooth sailing. I still think this game is better than the other two (especially better than 2).
world design wise it's on par with w2/w3 if not better at some aspects, atmosphere and music are unparalleled. writing and quests wise it's effectively the same too. the weakest part is english vo specifically. there's some other jank too which is expected from the first game of a small new studio with no prior experience. now, combat. the thing is it's not about aging well or badly - this combat system was different even on release, it was an experiment, and some people we unhappy even back then. it's not bad per ce, it's rather more rpgey rather than actiony, you don't need that much skill or reaction and concentration, it relies heavily on leveling your character, on gear and alchemy. so there's that. you know what games had similar problem? morrowind and kcd - both very popular and beloved games. the witcher 1 is in that same category - it's a great game, but maybe it's not for everyone. and if it's not for you (not you literally) then it's your own loss. iwatched alot of playthroughs over the years and i mean it's about the player - if they're open minded enough to make it work it's completely and totally worth it.
Actually I modded witcher 3 to have geralt look more like this. I really hope they don't butcher the remake. Best music of all 3 games. Back in the days, the atmosphere was quite unique. And you are guilty of making me play witcher 3 again BTW. Thank you
The graphic was not the best. Because this was the studio's very first game. And they use the engine same engine as Neverwinter Nights from BioWare, which I vaguely recalled that they have to customized it quite a bit.
About Geralt being hideous, I think his look here is more accurate than the super model Hollywood Geralt we got in TW3. In the books, he is said to look a little unsettling, so that works ! I hope that when the remaster comes, they keep this more rugged and book accurate look to him.
I get this somewhat, but at the same time.. I think it’s a tad bit silly to suggest Geralt isn’t meant to be attractive. The books don’t go into INCREDIBLE detail on his physical appearance other than him having white hair, scarred, rugged, snake eyes, pale. He’s consistently having physical relationships with the most beautiful women on the continent, sorceresses, so to suggest he’s some hideous creature just seems a little far fetched. I personally feel W3 is the most accurate depiction. Rugged and scary, but yet still attractive.
@@IAmRobPlays He had not so many physical realtions with women in books as games try to make us believe :) I could actually count them with fingers on my hands: Yennefer, Tris (not during events in books), Essi, Fringilla, priestess Iola, one of Zerrikan warriors (unknown which one of two), Shani (1 time), and Lytta Neyd aka ‘Coral’ (in ‘Season of Storms’ spin-off). It's eight books and god knows how many decades. It doesn't look like he's Casanunda of that world :) And, well, those women were attracted to him not because of his cuteness, but because of who he was.
@@IAmRobPlays geralt IS attractive, but not based on his looks, he is a genuine, professional, educated guy who can hold a philosophical conversation and is amazing with a sword. He is literally described in the books as having an ugly smile/grin ans being shocked at his own face. Plus he is very pale. Another more book accurate part is the open hair, lack of a beard and the way geralt talks in the first game. U can technically change the hair and beard to be book accurate in the later games but its not how cdpr present him by default and his dialogue gets a lot less book geralty too (in my opinion at least). I dont think w1 geralt is so hideous to not pull girls with all his other very attractive attributes. My source: i am a woman. He looks way too beautiful in 2&3. its okay to prefer it but sapkowski does repeatedly describe him as unpleasant looking and with physical characteristics not usually regarded as beautiful. Hes also a lot more muscular looking in esp witcher 3 than he is every explicitly described as in the books. Some of w1 uglyness does come down to the awkward model (i personally adore the graphics but the characters r the roughest part), if they kept his face like this but just upgraded the graphics u wouldnt call him hideous 🤷♀️ there is a reason a lot of ppl in the comments claim the same thing abt geralts looks - also we all know cdpr took some creative liberties with the book characters since triss got that ridiculous orange hair in 3 when she is described to have chestnut hair in the books…
Once you get used to the combat system and the jank, the character models and the bad to non-existent animations, this is actually a great game. Its narrative is pretty clean, its soundtrack is the best in the series (love the witcher 3's music but I like this more) and I think its world has the perfect size for its story. While I like the open world of 3 and its towns and villages are beautiful, they feel more surface level than Vizima in 1. Novigrad is impressive but most of it is just empty space gameplay-wise. Witcher 1's limited space makes it feel more significant. You actually have time to get to know the places and notice when things change and every little nook and cranny seems to be utilized at least once in the story. It's more Majora's Mask's Clock Town while the Witcher 3 is closer to Breath of the Wild. I hope the remake doesn't go too big. No bigger than Toussaint, max. Less space, more depth.
Witcher 1 feels very dated and jank imo. I played it on release and it's not aged well. Witcher 2 ass ass in kings however has aged wonderfully and you can see cdpr growing into their boots.
In the first game you can feel Slavic/Polish atmosphere the most.
Yeah I'm polish and if someone asked me to show "polish-feeling" game it's Witcher 1 and only then Witcher 3

I hope we get some full platinum videos soon man
The Witcher took me a month. I’m only one person, it’ll come out soon 😂
That's one fantastic game. The music is incredible, the atmosphere is ... special i think is the most correct word.
U better do a full series man
Not sure if you figured it out yet (I paid only half attention to the video as I was playing games myself), but when fighting you have to click with left button at the moment when this fire around mouse cursor appears. In order to do combo hits, if you click too early it cancels previous attack and starts the attack from scratch. (Edit: also if your attacks fail at the beginning of the animation often then it might mean that you have wrong style active)
Please make this a series rob
I’m so glad this game is getting remade
I played Witcher 1 in 2023 and this is my favourite Witcher. The atmosphere in the game is darker than in the third part.
That "die bastard" at 21:48 had me rolling
Gotta remember development first whole project cdpr, based on another engine, on technology that's mostly bootlegged, this was reminiscent of teenager/bedroom coder single or partner auteur game development of the 80s that seemed lost and drowned by corporations development styles. This didn't look as good or play as good as it's peers but it had * the thing * that makes great things iconic. It frustrated me no end day 1, I'm not blinded by nostalgia but I was able to suspend my disbelief and immerse and for me that's why I have been doing this for 40 years. ❤
Originally, the game was designed in a Diablo-style game. Alternate camera remained isometric from this.
When you give it a chance, this is a great game.
So much of this series mirrors the books. Leo is basically Coen, Priscilla is basically Little Eye. Even the Professor is in the books.
I didn't remember it was that bad lol, hope to see a series on this
The jump at 2:58 would kill him in the Witcher 3.
Crazy to me we got to see this in the Witcher show
It was one of the first big games I got after buying PC and it was amazing.
"Will you take pity on this kitty" is still the hottest thing a woman has ever said to me
might I suggest isometric view? It is easier to control better that way. OTS makes the player dizzy to no end lol
You played in hardest mode. In easier mode, one can see the smallicon on the weapon for the timing of successful attacks.
continue rob!!
No way, he actualy did it
Kaer Morhen actually looks identical to witcher 3s
Oh wow, I didn't expect that 😂To be honest, The Witcher 3 is one of the best games of all time, but the first one has an unmatched sentimental value to me. I played it when I was 11 or so, over and over again, and it's mindblowing to think the combat mechanic and graphics were not an issue back then. Now it looks like a horror game 😅 I can only imagine how much of a generational jump it is to someone playing it now, especially fresh after finishing TW3, but give it a chance. It has its charms. Atmosphere for one.
Intro cinematic is from one of the tales in the books, pretty cool
Not sure if you ever played NeverWinter Nights by Bioware, Top down DnD game.
But basically, Witcher 1 is made on the same engine they took from BioWare. So some design choices start to make sense when playing as a top down RPG.
Post Witcher 3 depression is very real bro 😂 shit is not talked about enough
It’s also the closest to book Geralt we ever get. It’s a shame they really pulled back on Geralts dialogue by Witcher 3. He’s constantly talking in the books.
You know old game neverwinter nights 2? its the same engine, Aurora. That what they made with this engine is crazy
BioWare made the Aurora Engine, Neverwinter Nights 1 + Expansions run on it as well.
fun fact the witcher 1, all character same as descripted in novel
7:10 legit how i felt when starting this game a while back
The combat is easy once you figure it out. Just click at the right times, instead of spamming. It really plays more like a classic RPG, so to hit chance and dodge are all stats and dice rolls. The second act drags, but after that it's nearly smooth sailing. I still think this game is better than the other two (especially better than 2).
So are the games adoptions of the books stories?
remember... HE READ THE BOOKS
Very much enjoying your Witcher content. Any plans for a Let's Play of Witcher 1 and/or 2? = )
Ever seen the old polish tv show? Last i checked all episodes were on YT.
A Witcher 2 play through would go hard
world design wise it's on par with w2/w3 if not better at some aspects, atmosphere and music are unparalleled. writing and quests wise it's effectively the same too. the weakest part is english vo specifically. there's some other jank too which is expected from the first game of a small new studio with no prior experience.
now, combat. the thing is it's not about aging well or badly - this combat system was different even on release, it was an experiment, and some people we unhappy even back then. it's not bad per ce, it's rather more rpgey rather than actiony, you don't need that much skill or reaction and concentration, it relies heavily on leveling your character, on gear and alchemy. so there's that. you know what games had similar problem? morrowind and kcd - both very popular and beloved games. the witcher 1 is in that same category - it's a great game, but maybe it's not for everyone. and if it's not for you (not you literally) then it's your own loss. iwatched alot of playthroughs over the years and i mean it's about the player - if they're open minded enough to make it work it's completely and totally worth it.
gets a tip about combat system: yeah, ok, ok, i get it
three seconds later: idk what i'm doing
I LOVE The Witcher games ! And the one is, even if old, my favourite
Amazing game, can't wait for the remake of Witcher 1
Holup u mean to tell me that the Rob girthy is posting videos in 4k now
Will you play more of this?
Actually I modded witcher 3 to have geralt look more like this. I really hope they don't butcher the remake. Best music of all 3 games. Back in the days, the atmosphere was quite unique. And you are guilty of making me play witcher 3 again BTW. Thank you
The hair glitch ia my favorite..!!!
The graphic was not the best. Because this was the studio's very first game. And they use the engine same engine as Neverwinter Nights from BioWare, which I vaguely recalled that they have to customized it quite a bit.
The Witcher 1 is really one of the games of all time.
Will you be trying out witcher 2 after this?
Geralt looks more like a vampire back then. Oh and sleeps in a coffin whu??
Are you planning a playthru of cyberpunk?
This combat is 🔥
The narrator is dandelion btw
Finally more Witcher! Hell yeah!
Were you born yesterday? Games haven’t always been like 2024
This game was made when standard screen was 4:3 800p ressolution or even lower 😂
Witcher 1 feels very dated and jank imo. I played it on release and it's not aged well.
Witcher 2 ass ass in kings however has aged wonderfully and you can see cdpr growing into their boots.
Ciri also has that chain in Witcher 4
I hope they remake Witcher 1 and 2 so badly 😭
2 is good
They confirmed a Witcher 1 remake is coming
@@albesayz yeah but only after Witcher 4, so you won't see that game anytime soon
