My mom and dad bought this exact vacuum from Kmart in the mid 2000s, they had to buy the display model because they had none in stock. I remember my mom turning it on for the first time and it flew across the carpet. My mom always had a difficult time getting the canister to snap back on. This was our second dirt devil and our last. The first was a vision swivel glide. It was unfortunate that this had the silly central pleated filter in the dust cup. This thing was also extremely heavy.
Typically when I've seen vacuums take off they're in the upright position, makes me wonder if yours had a faulty microswitch to shut off the brushroll when it's in the upright position. I can see some difficulty in re-assembly you have to like manualy align the metal bar just a bit to get it to snap another. Yeah very very basic bagless machine

If its got glass something, its most likely Fibre glass, they are VERY strong and can withstand very high temperatures
Okay. It may have been overkill for the use but better safe than sorry right?

I have the self-propelled version that's also Bagless but it's blue and gray with some metal parts?
