I had the same issue 15 years ago on mine. I measured out where the bearings and sleeves are and drilled holes in the swing arm bolt. Tapped both ends of the bolts and put Grease zerks on each end so it never happens again.
Greg, i want to the slide hammer technique but first I need to know, where do you get the rod that you slide the weight on? Also, where do you get the hammer/weight itself...not the weights used for weight lifting.
Did u end up cutting the rest of that knackered up end to make even then use a thick washer maybe to make up for the missing metal? Or did u just install it all and roll with it the way it was on that messed up side? I also thought about aluminum welding an trying to build that lip bsck up but would have really screwed me if it didn't work out so I decided not to. But it appears the washer with the lip fits over the messed up side ok an the bolt holds it all straight so I'm just going to roll with it I guess just wanted to get ur opinion on that end that was messed up like it was mine was same way half the lip was gone an chewed up
I don't get alerted to comments, but luckily saw this. I did not have any play from side to side when I was done. I did make a bushing on a lathe to fill the missing space from cutting back the knackered up end till it was flat.

I def should have made a spacer an cut the other half off like u did but its all back together with no side to side an seems to be holding good as we saw when the bearing gives it allows the swinger to come forward more thus ruining that end of the swing arm. Obviously the side the chains on. Ill just make sure I change the bearings before they get bad this time.. thanks again for ur advice bro
hey man thanks this helped i cut mine right out mine was only stuck on the right side so ones we cut it we was able to just the pull the left side out and finsh the other side but i wanted to ask can these bearing be put in eather way
idk man we turned mine on its side had someone hold the swing arm level and beat it with a 15 pond hamer while heating it with a touch in tell the bolt was round lmao and it moved in the swing arm but the bushing on the bolt would not move gave us a little more room to cut between the motor and the ear on the swing arm if u do that and cut it with a small disc on a air drill its not bad at all but ones that ex swing arm bolt gets stuck its a bitch with my ex is a 99 model and it had never been took out befor so thats prob y mine woundnt move
@@CodyBoyy yea they def all get stuck if like 06 an earlier for sure. Maybe even newer ones. .. the bolt gets stuck to the collars an as u said mine was more stuck to the side the bsck brake is on an once I got it moving it came out alot easier. But I pulled mine out the shifter side as I see most pull it out other side. Plus mine didn't have the hollow bolt. Was just solid with 2 dif size nuts on each side was weird.
Greg, at 5:28 you show the sides of your swingarm that have been broken and/or worn off. You mention that the seals go over this. My swingarm also has this damage. Would you mind explaining how you fixed this? Thank you for the help!
I didn’t say it but out about 613 shows how I grounded off lap, and I put a ring groove on the end. It’s been a few years I should probably go check and see how much dirt is in there.
Hey Greg if you see this the edges of mine are broken where the seals go, would I be able to tig weld it up a bit and remake the edge? If so I can find a picture of what a new one looks like
Mine was half broke off as well ur talking about the lip on end of the swing arm hole where the bolt comes through right ? An mine that broke half off was the side the sprocket was on.. was urs same side? I know this been while.. but was just wanted to say I used the washer with lip that goes on the outside where that lip is broke half way an the bolt helped hold it straight once back together an the seal was able to sit in there properly so mine ended up workin with that piece broke off half way as well from it beating around in there an they didn't change it when they should have , always causes more damage riding with shit messed up ya know.. but people are stupid
I got half inch all thread and some extra nuts an welded the half inch nut to the nut that bolts on the swing arm bolt , then used a jack handle as the spacer an screwed the nut on with Grease in between the washers an nut so it would spin an it pulled it right out, well sprayed alot of wd40 as well an was right as shit first 2 inches but after that it lossened up an came right out .. kinda looked similar to the bearing press tool kit they sell online for pressing these bearings in an out just made my own with half inch so it wouldn't break or strip out on ya.. assuming u already got urs by now just figured I'd share with u how I got it out an maybe will help for the future or if u still need it out hope this helps broski
