  • Just a quick little video of how I got the stuck swing arm bolt out of the Yamaha WR 250 F, it will probably apply to all the Yamaha's with this set up, there will be a lot of work involved and may not even work for you, so saying that, I hope you do manage to get yours free and hope this video has helped in some way or another.

    Well done. I spent 3 days with a lump hammer, lube, blow torch and an unbelievable determination not to damage the swing arm on a 45 yr old Honda CB175. I failed. It was so seized. In the end I found a replacement swingie on fleabay with good fittings then cut off the old one. Both bushes were 'welded' to the bolt and I couldn't free either off when placed in a vice afterwards (for the hell of it). Hardest job I did on a bike I think.

    Great idea to remove the motor mounts, will try! thanks brotha. If that doesnt work, I'll get some dynomite and fix it all in one fell swoop.

    this is a pain in the arse, had the same problem with a xt600, the swing arm bearings were shot anyway, as no grease nipples on arm for them on later xt's, eventually did the same thing as you with the nut and i had a old bolt from a railway sleeper as a drift and a mash hammer, more weight alongside what you are hitting helps, managed to get it past the lip on the opposite side, then a spanner on that end free'd it quite a bit more, it was ok after that, i had another swing arm that i got cheap, its bearings were in exellent condition, plus grease nipples in the right places, it was off a 1991 model and re assembled with that and its shaft etc, put copper slip on the shaft area that goes through the back of engine block, its still on to this day, the rollers in the original were totally shagged and never bothered to get them out, you can retro fit grease nipples to later xt's by drilling passage holes and tapping for the 2 nipples etc, then there is the rear brake caliper, another problem area, they sieze on the pivot and unless you are lucky you are fubar'ed, was lucky again got another cheap with knackered piston but not siezed, again off an early 90's tenere this time, used my good piston and a new seal kit and still good today, yamaha's eh, ive got 2

    I know a guy who lost an eye when using two hammers like that. Hardened steel shatters if hit to hard with equal harden piece. Be careful !! Find something softer so that won’t happen to you

      So true. I was cringeing when he started hitting the hammer.

    Well done. You should never hit two hammers together. They can shatter and fragment and could cause injuy

    If you have an air hammer with a point bit you can knock it free in about 5 seconds. Might be worth it to get a cheap one if you have an air compressor

    • @kylescott3155
      @kylescott3155 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mr Clean sounds like yours is pretty heavily corroded. Try a combination of heat and the air hammer. May take a couple heat/ cool cycles to get it free enough for the air hammer to work

    Back in the day those shafts were hollow with grease nipples on.Only on a few models but.They need to stripped regularly and cleaned and lubed.Same with axles.Once had to cut an axle.Salt water intrusion is the worst.

    Got there in the End, them rubber seals in the swinging arm must be shot, letting water and grit just like grinding past on the bearings, they do have a very hard life them off roader`s.

    Mine’s completely seized. Tried this for 3 hours straight with the use of penetrating oils with no luck. I tried loosening up the bolt with an air impact, still wouldn’t budge. I tried heating up the metal, still wouldn’t budge. Can’t afford a new bolt, so not sure what to do

      Ryan My dirtbike is a bit different. My bolt goes through one side of the frame to the other. I’m going to try heating it up with a sedaline torch and then bash the shit out of it. If it still doesn’t come out, I’ll have to get it drilled out
