  • For a long time I have wanted to make my way over to Sausalito and film Bay Cities trucks. Finally a good time came up and here's the result. Mainly the on premise/backyard collection is what I came for but as of early November residents received Toters and that not only made residents get rid of their own supplied cans but many opted to just roll them for curbside semi-auto service. Still the big old aluminum "pack cans" are used for some stops and that's what I tried to capture. Lots of drivers and helpers can tip and dump carts but it definitely takes some skill and muscle to run around with a can full of trash and its not light to say the least... trust me. Bay Cities is one of the few if not last company that even hauls a Bertuccio bin on their trucks. I really apricate all the friendly and hard working drivers and helpers that day for letting Colby, Stevie, and I too follow them around route and get some footage and be able to document yet another city and there collection technique and methods. The pack can is definitely something that will still be used, just a bit less and hopefully I can make it down again and film some of their other trucks running around the city. But I'm glad I was able to film this and the older Autocar RL that day.

Wow. People pay all that money for Cross Fit when they could just do this route and get paid!!! Great catch and great job by the guys on a tough route

that shoulder bin thing must give some back pain! interesting, my grandpa has told me that backyard service was popular back in the day before carts

Sweet video, I’m so glad you got so many different angles to capture the ins and outs of this route-these guys sure work hard! Love the combo too, the classic feel of the Heil body pairs surprisingly well with the more modern LR, and I’m a pretty big fan of that paint job too. Glad you got the chance to document this!

That's how I started off no wheels spent years in the hills then went to the flat lands area worked my way to other trucks

Awesome! Love the color, and the LR looks amazing with a ribbed body truck.

Great job! Such an old school method of collection! I can easily start by saying this combo is unique in itself, new chassis meets old style body. Surprised that they don’t use something like a Heil 4000 for those tight streets. Can’t imagine how strenuous hauling those trash cans all day must be. A few companies use something similar in Houston but those luckily have wheels haha

Spectacular video Nick!! Bay Cities Refuse is such a dope company. Their trucks are all really neat, and their og manual style is very entertaining. They've been a priority of mine to film as well, watching these trucks maneuver through the hills is just great. So glad that you guys filmed this!!

Old school rules! I spent 5 out of 30 years working the Oakland hills and about 75% of the homes had stairs and it was time to put the barrel on your shoulder and go for it.

been waiting to see a modern day video of those pack cans, and they don't got swivel wheels on the bottom either so you're REALLY carrying the weight. paired with the ribbed heil body and it's a nice little blast from the past. makes you appreciate the bone breaking work that most garbage men did throughout the 70s well into the 90s

Wow, this company is so old school when it comes to collection, love it! And the ribbed Heil Formula body on the modern Mack LR is just dope! That Mack LR is something you don't see every day in NorCal so that's a bonus! Would've been more awesome if the body was on an ACX - I'm more of an Autocar guy than a Mack guy, but hey, it works! What other trucks do they run? So glad you guys got this - I hope I can film this company myself sometime in the future!

If you don't think your superman all the time and have a sense of balance you can do this for damn near 3 decades like some of these guys.

@@NorCalwastetrucks Some guys are built for it. I did manual garbage & organics and it messed up my body over a period of time. My back is messed up for good, tore something in my shoulder, and have bad circulation in my hands from Winter time. It takes a special breed to make a career out of it. Cheers!

This company is so old school. Carrying a large bin on your back full of trash is something that is mostly gone.
