  • Here is an all electric BYD New Way Viper collecting bulky waste in the South Bay. No clue if Recology has bought more then one for their fleet but judging that this dose not have a CA DOT number it is quite possible it was sent down from Seattle for testing down in the Bay Area.

The fact that it makes very little noise at idle is trippin me out. It’s nice that someone was able to get footage of this. Great job!

It sounds like fluorescent lighting and looks like a CGI rendering from 2007

It’s is so strange how quite it, also makes you realize how loud the packer is when it crushes stuff.

I actually think this truck works much better than the electric ASLs currently at work in Palo Alto. Largely slient until they run the packer, and the cycles are running at a competent speed. Not to mention the sound of the packer cycle is suspiciously similar to those of LABOS' RLs.

I dunno, there's so much start and stop in an ASL that an electric is going to have a serious avantage with regenerative braking saving both fuel and normal brake wear.

I see where you are coming from but the design of Palo Alto’s electric unit just looks so good in my opinion

1st time seeing an electric garbage truck. Brilliant. Your rubbish trucks are better than the ones here in England 👍

It's a neat truck. I have been looking more into it and I am nearly positive that this truck was from Seattle. Also, love the mop of hair on my head.

Nice truck. Quite, a little too quiet for a garbage truck.

Cool video. Did the driver have anything to say about the strength of the packer? It seemed to handle everything pretty well. I guess every electric truck is going to have that goofy front grill. The takeoff sound was just like a land speeder from star wars.

The packer should be just as strong as any other new way body like this one, same hydraulic pump at the same flow/pressure

I think the grill is there to make the truck normal looking, similar in function to the one on the Telsa Model S. Once these trucks become a norm, expect grill-less models to pop up.

@ David Schieler - I don't about US laws but in the UK you can get heavily fined for not returning those 'blue painted pallets' at 12.50 to the company who delivered your item(s) on them. You don't have to return them personally - just let the company know they are empty. - I think the fine for a 1st. offence, is $2,000. Soon makes firms collect them and the public not keep them.
