Hello Namibia,I am from an Island in Papua New Guinea,a country just North of Australia and I find Namibia so fascinating.Papua New Guinea is a country whose native people are black,like Africa..Back in the 1800s the Germans colonized my island(not the whole of Papua New Guinea),just my island and it was named "Neu Pommern".They build all infrastructures and designed our beautiful town.After world war 1 the British took over my island and renamed it "New Britain" and that name still remains today.Many Germans ,however,left when Britain and Australia took over our Island and the English language was forced on us.The German language sadly disappeared as a result of the take over and only a handful of old folks on the Island can still speak fluent German,not me or my generation.A few years ago a German tourist visited my island and had a conversation(in German) with some old men and was quiet surprised to hear a lot of old German words used by these old men.Words that are rarely used today in mordern Germany.Over the decades some German words have trickled into our local native language and become part of it.,words such as "Raus(go away),Gumi(rubber),Kanu(Canoe),Beten(pray),Gut(Good),Kaput(Break),Blut(blood),etc are now part of our native language.I wish we had a German teacher on our Island that could teach and revive the German language once again.It's part of our history..Small world.

In this video, among other things, they ask how difficult German is for Namibians. They also compare the pronunciation of Afrikaans words to the pronounciation of German words. Think about that: many Namibians speak the Afrikaans Language. That's a very easy Language. For example, in german is: ich bin, du bist, (er sie es) ist, wir sind, ihr seid, sie sind. In dutch (similiar to Afrikaans) is: ik ben, jij bent, (hij, zij, het) is, wij zijn, jullie zijn, zij zijn. In Afrikaans is: ek is, jy is, (hy, sy, dit) is, ons is, julle is, hulle is. For any person, the verb is "is" ! Furthermore, in Afrikaans as well as in English, there is only one article. In English the article is "the". In Afrikaans the article is "die". German is defenetely a more difficult Language than Afrikaans Language spoken by many Namibians...

showicat Ja, so weit ich weiß, ist Niedeländisch ein bisschen einfacher als Deutsch. Zum Beispiel, hat die niederländische Sprache keine Fälle und nur drei Artikel: een (ein, eine, ein), het (das) und de (die, der und "plural die").
Jaja, aber die Aussprache klingt mehr ähnlich wie die englische Sprache, obwohl die Grammatik deutsche ist. auch find ich, ehrlich gesagt, ein bisschen komisch, wegen des R, es hat nämlich diese Aussprachesmöglichkeiten, und ich will immer herausfinden, wieso es gibt, wie in amerikanischer Sprache, das R, man soll die Zunge rollen. trotzdem eine schöne Sprache, lernen Sie die jetzt? scheint es, dass Sie sehr viel über diese Sprache wissen. Und ich bleibe immer noch bei dem ersten Schritt. Wie weit sind Sie.
showicat Eigentlich, lerne ich gerade Deutsch. Ich lerne auch ein bisschen Niederländisch und Afrikaans, weil sie ähnlich zu Deutsch sind. Nur Deutsch lernen würde mir zu langweilig sein... Also, gelegentlich lerne ich auch ein bisschen Niederländisch und Afrikaans. Sie alle gehören zu der gleichen Familie...

Unglaublich krasse Leistung bisher Leute, ich fast die ganze Reihe angeschaut. Darf ich als naechste eine Folge vorschlagen, die sich mit solchen umgangsprachlichen Redewendungen, wie "Ich habe so'n Hals!" "Ich habe keinen Bock mehr" und derengleichen beschaeftigt? Ich schaue den Channel von Keysjore, einem beruehmten deutschen Let's Player, an und zumindestens "Ich habe kein Bock auf XYZ" kommt hauefig in seinen Videos vor :)

For the same reason all the other groups in Namibia have their own community. And assimilate into what exactly? In Namibia there are numerous ethnicities present, so which one should all of them assimilate into? Herero, Himba, Damara, Ovambo, Nama, San, Angolese, Germans, Afrikaners, Portuguese or Chinese?
