      The VR180 videos I've been seeing with these recent new stereo cameras have some strange artifacts, most notably wobbly straight lines and exaggerated or artificial depth in patterned surfaces like gras or carpets. Just look down at the beginning of the video and at the front edge of the table. The non-straight lines are present throughout all the samples. I would consider this to be a defect of all this cameras as it severely degrades the quality but this hasn't been mentioned in the reviews I've seen (including this one).

      @@o0AnotherweaseL0o at least I experienced similar with Street View in GMaps regarding 360 ... they do a comparable lousy job in reproducing VR from the equirectangular. My guess it's the same here from the 180, not from the 3D. Just my thoughts, let's hear it from Ben 😊

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is due to TH-cam’s compression.. nothing to do with the cameras. Watch this same video on VeeR (link in description) and you’ll see straight lines behave the way they should.

    I have been playing around with the Qoocam this winter. I have alot of fun with it and I appreciate the long battery life. I look forward to the next generation of 180 3D. Hopefully more ability to mess around with depth mapping. Now that Headsets and powerful PCs are becoming more mainstream I can see 3D 180/360 really becoming popular. Thanks for the review! Oh btw, I noticed on your Instagram that you were having problems getting the video to work on TH-cam. I find it takes about 20 minutes or so before it works properly in 180 3D VR after uploading. Ben, your VR180 comparison video and EVO coverage is very well done, thank you. The higher res & HDR of the EVO (plus their app/case for viewing 3D with your phone and the ability to view directly in the Oculus GO via wifi) makes EVO the clear winner for now. Besides the quality of the 3 camera's. This was an awesome way to review, really next-level review method! I've watched this video on my Oculus Go and it really felt like i was sitting there opposite of you, felt like a teacher was educating me. Still think there is a lot of room for improvement, when object are too close to the camera, things start to get blurry, as if you are looking cross-eyed. And distant lines become a bit curvy. It does really make me consider buying an EVO. Keep up the good work Ben!

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Frank! Yes it does make you feel like you’re standing there in the video haha. Some of the curvy lines are caused by TH-cam compression- I also uploaded to VeeR (link in description) and everything looks as it should 👍

    Thanks for the review, it helped me choose my next 3D camera. I’ve had Kandao Qoocam and I was really pleased with it, but as you said, the resolution wasn’t that great. The footage wasn’t really sharp, but 3D effect worked great. The inly problem with this cameras is, you need to film objects quite close in order to get the best results, which is not always possible. It would be great if we could get some kind of optical zoom for those lenses lol. But my next one is definitely gonna be Insta 360 Evo

    Thank you for this great review. This is how a camera review should look like. One question Vuze XR has ever improved in its stabilization during walking? At the moment it is very complicated to find a VR 180 3D camera. Is there something coming out or available under 1000 Euros and minimum 5.7K.

    Hey Ben just a suggestion - I don't think you calibrate this VR180 video so the horizon line is not straight. Maybe use your bubble leveler to keep the camera absolutely level or adjust it in POST in Premiere with Boris BBC VR unit.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hugh- the horizon looks pretty straight to me.. I kept the cameras dead level while shooting and I never noticed anything unlevel watching back on Oculus Go. I know you’re a perfectionist so sorry if it’s slightly unlevel to you haha

    • @jurgmanx4644
      @jurgmanx4644 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Vuze tracks the horizon level. When you render the video you get 3 options none , stabilize and horizontal stabilize. Ben didn't stabilize in rendering the vuze walking video. You can hold the vuze at some off angke and later render it level.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jurgman X Ben did stabilize, but for 180 it’s nowhere near the level of 360 stabilization, nor the other cameras in this comparison.

      @@BenClaremont looks like my unstabilized video from the vuze xr. I'm about to return this camera for many other issues. Its so far just made a lot of what I found out to be blotchy, overcompressed video on TH-cam. Nothing close to what you uploaded.

    Thanks for your comparison! The one thing I missed was your opinion about the audio differences: e.g. the Vuze XR has 4 mics for Ambisonics, whereas the Insta360 EVO only has 2. How much of an issue is this?

    Great breakdown of the three cameras - with one-to-one image comparisons of each. Exactly what I've been looking for! So here's my take:
    1) Yes - the manual features and HDR capabilities of the EVO are awesome, the stabilized video quality is not quite so impressive! Sure, it stabilizes - but sacrifices video quality in the process? Tons of pixelated artifacts which I assume is a result of the software stabilization?
    2) While the image quality (unstabilized) on the EVO might be better than the Vuze XR - there is a noticeable strobing issue with moving objects on the EVO - most obvious when you move your hands around as you speak. The Vuze XR seems to produce more fluid movement (similar to results you'd expect with higher frame rates). Ideally, the frame rate should be 60fps for good VR quality - but not an option with either of these cameras. Even so, I think the Vuze XR does a much better job with that given the 30fps limitation... somehow.
    There was no mention of these movement artifacts - but a REALLY important feature to consider. With that... I think my choice would be the Vuze.

      I agree... I couldn't see how this was not mentioned in the stabilization part of the video. The 360EVO was just horrible, in this respect. Also with any movement. I also have an interest in extreme close-up shots of the coffee cup. I wish the shots could have been matched better. I find the 360EVO too difficult to look at really close, and it appeared as if the coffee cup was moved (probably just lens) to a "more comfortable" distance so the 360EVO looked better. I'm just not finding the 360EVO good at really close-up shots. The Qoocam seems to do well close-up, and the XR as well. Found the distortion in the table interesting, in the balcony shot, as well. Loved the hard work put into this video. There is a price difference for the 360EVO, but i'm not sure it's the route to go for xtreme close-up material. Viewed this in 3D with my Oculus VR by Samsung.

    The weird thing about the Vuze is that nearby objects seem too big! I've seen in-car videos made on the Vuze where the car and the driver seem gargantuan! Also no adjustable brightness/exposure etc means that it's more likely to overexpose images when shot in a dynamic environment (such as a car). So I ended up going with the EVO, which is much more flexible while still producing good looking imagery.

      @@BenClaremont Hi Ben, It is! I'll illustrate my point with some examples. have a look at these in VR and tell me that the interior of the car looks the right size to you! Look at the size of the mirrors, steering wheel, the persons hands, phone etc.. it just looks way oversized to me. Could be the lenses of the Vuze causing it, or maybe the processing software.. I'm not sure.

      th-cam.com/video/lK-wraddkSI/w-d-xo.html
      Maybe it's just me, but nearby things just look like they're too big! And overexposed as well, though I've also seen some passable videos which were filmed in less dynamically challenging situations (cloudy day/evening/night).
      The Vuze really seems like a cool cam, and I did consider it. It's just that the EVO seems to fit my purposes a bit more.
      Here's a car video I shot myself (on the EVO): th-cam.com/video/9bAQSxI-XZo/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Mr Ben, I just watched your video with an headset and...wow.... astonishing! If I may suggest you something, by the feeling viewing your video, I found a little bit annoying the position I have been set in the scene. I try to explain better: in the scene with the coffee cup, i felt like my head was cut and placed on the table (this means that 3D works veeeeery well indeed!!!); on the scene you walking around I felt like a baby in your arms (nearly kissing you, omg....) and on the balcony I felt crouching on the table. I think that with this ny tecnology is essential to program every scene thinking that the cams are effectively the eyes and the head of the spectator. Thank you again for all your interesting videos!

    I own a QooCam, thinking about buying a EVO as well. For me the Vuse looked the best in the walking section even with the movement the image was crisper. Of the two (QooCam and EVO) stablized walking shots I think the QooCam won. Look at your shoulders in the last two. There is some artifacts from the stabilization on both but its far more pronounced and dare I say ugly on the EVO. All other points the EVO did seem to win the day though. Sadly the main reason I want the EVO is for the VR180 Stabilization :/ This is a tough one.
