    Ukraine stepping up to alleviate energy crises in Moldova speaks volumes to Ukraine's integrity, and their understanding of the need to avoid giving Russia additional turmoil to use to escalate violence. One of the most astute statements about Russia that I've heard from a colleague in Ukraine is: "Russia is a country with an unpredictable past." It is important to remember that Russia consistently changes their "history" as well as their present situation, to fit the propaganda needed at the moment.

      There is still no actual evidence for this. Look at the article they reference in the notes. This came from unnamed sources in the CIA leaks and from interrogations of detained Taliban militants by afgan NSA (Torture was common). Read the storys and check the notes, this was never substantiuated.

      Personally, I agree with the guest that putting European NATO troops on the ground in Ukraine while Trump is in the White House is a non-starter. If Trump could be trusted to militarily back those troops if Putin started killing them, maybe. But is anyone confident he would? And if he didn't, wouldn't that be the end of NATO?
      And, to reassure Putin that Ukraine wouldn't join NATO as long as NATO troops could be based there to provide Ukraine security guarantees sounds a little bizarre.
      In my opinion, the only real solution is US security guarantees.
      Perhaps we could find a sustainable way for Trump to put his ego on the line (I was going to say his reputation, but that doesn't seems right for someone whose gone bankrupt multiple times). Unfortunately, Trump's past advisors warn us that he will say and believe something one day, then say and believe the exact opposite tomorrow.
      And that leaves NATO membership.

    The only equitable thing after all the blood that has been spilled is that Ukraine gets every inch of its land back. No less. And reparations would not hurt. Meanwhile, Russian soldiers are offing themselves at a clip of 200 to 400 a day, The interest rate in Russia is above 21% and inflation as well over 20%. So really there's no advantage for Ukraine to negotiate when Russia is going to implode

    Fact 50 of 100: At no point in the history of NATO has ground troops had access to RU territory to map cruise missile paths to within a meter. Empirical mapping criteria are based on matching the CYGNSS-observed delay and Doppler values to values predicted using knowledge of local terrain topography. Bottom line: USA needs to know an exact surface survey with hidden calibration reflectance points planted on RU soil. Mission accomplished in 100 days!

    Hamish has given classic propaganda. Uninteresting and lacking in facts, but a lot of wishful thinking. Don't invite him on the podcast again. Svitlana explained nicely the situation in Moldova: Russians supplied gas for free to the Russian-speaking separatists and since the power plant is on their side, they produced electricity to entire Moldova. Zelensky cut that free gas supply and now the entire country have an energy crisis.

    • @anglaismoyen
      @anglaismoyen 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Zelensky didn't cut the supply. The contract ended as scheduled and Ukraine had no interest in renewing it for extremely obvious reasons.

    Maybe I'm reading too much in it, but I think Friedman's more simple, naive questions were also a calculated decision. Most listeners to his poscast have a similar knowledge/attitude to the conflict so his questions reflected ones that his listeners would actually have, making a bigger impact on their final takeaway and opinions.

    These people in Transniestr, where I have been, want to be part of Russia. But the Russians have just kept them in a limbo. However, it is so isolated it is like north Korea, although they do have a reasonably good life style. Capitalism having been suspended there ,( no dog eat dog competition).

    My understanding of the Ukraine stopping the movement of Russian gas through Ukraine is the result of the bilateral contract had expired. What is really the truth?

    • @hysterylesson4850
      @hysterylesson4850 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, they had a 5 years contract and for all I know, russia didn't offer much to keep it in place. Maybe Orban and Fico where pootins messengers on the matter. Would make sense shortly before the shutdown. But yes, russia earned money through the gas delivery and payed Ukraine the leasing rates.....while at war. Fun fact: There is another contract in place. Over oil piplines. That expires in 2029.
