Is that why you go bigger tyres sometimes to chase the load rating needed?

Hi Owen, Yes that is correct the factory wheel & tyre does not meet the load rating requirement. Thanks, JMACX

Hi, I’ve just had some new 4x4 rims installed with rear axle load being 1850kg. The wheels are load rated at 1025 kg . So the combined wheel rating is 1100 kg. I tow a 2700 kilo caravan with approx 250 kg tow all. The Ute has canopy with all the usual travel items within however the vehicle is not over loaded. Are these wheels acceptable with this sort of setup.

Wouldnt it be simpler to carry less stuff. I think if one needs to be considering gvm uprades etc, one has more than likely bought the wrong car or caravan.

Philip- definitely not that easy here in Oz - carrying less - most carry what they need but extra fuel and water are all heavy
      - wrong car- no most people choose a car/van/boat and the GCM rating MUST be totally abided by as does GVM. This is where most serious off-roaders add a upgrade to suspension to ensure they stay legal, insured and most importantly are safe for their own family in vehicle and other road users.
Unfortunately manufacturers are not catering for Oz in their manufacture and the majority of off-roaders do not want to or cannot afford to go upto a 4500+ GVM and also then have to go for a different class of license -
I know what you are saying but there are so many variables

Are wheel offsets in the same lot. Ie if my LC200 come OE +60 0n 31"s and I get a gvm upgrade and approval for 16% biiger 35"s for example can I go with say a +25 aftermarket 17" wheel as long as the load rating of the two rear wheels matches your new rear axle load rating upgrade eg 3000kg :- 2 = 1500kg per wheel and same per 35" muddie? Tah

Wider offset wheels increase bearing loads
Rule of thumb also from a adr standpoint no more than 25mm offset increase

      Too complicated

I see the new 70 series coming in has a gvm of 3510kg across all models.

will make the 3900kg gvm space interesting. will people still pay large sums of money for a small gain in gvm

does this mean anyone running a JMACX/AEV 4200kg upgrade on a 200 series with 285/65r18 is technically outside of the 2% increase with the approval being for a 285/60r18...?
