Hey! Corpus resident here! A comment you made about Corpus stood out to me. It was positive. You said Corpus looks like a city that hasn’t reached its full potential yet. Yes, you’re absolutely right. This city has latent potential, huge potential actually. I’m hoping to see it bloom in my lifetime, not only so, but I plan to take office someday to make that happen because it’s time for our precious city to bloom and show her beauty❤️

Really good job covering my hometown (native & resident even now). I'm 2nd generation with my son & nieces making 3 generations. My grandparents moved here around latter 1930s or so. My mother still remembers the beauty of that old Courthouse in it's glory days and walking around the edge of that water fountain which had goldfish in it. She still recalls falling in the water amidst the fish. Lol.
Heritage Park was created in an area that was really run down & made such a beautiful change to the area. Christmastime is lovely there. The Lichenstein House is nice and they had a retail clothing store downtown (Lichenstein's) which was lovely & even I still remember it. The Galvan house is beautiful & rents out for weddings with courtyards and Rose Garden, etc.
Not far from Heritage Park is the Museum of Science and History which houses loads of interesting items like the accounts of the 1919 Hurricane and a room with the the Bucanneer Days area complete with some of the jeweled coronation dresses which are handmade.
Hurricane Alley waterpark and Whataburger Field (home of the Hooks baseball team) are just down the street from all this.
We love our Lady Lex. It had an IMAX theatre last I knew. Not a good tour if you have knee issues, but you can definitely spend all day there so the price is worth it. The Pearl Harbor exhibit is amazing & sobering with the name lists of the soldiers lost that day.
Unfortunately, you didn't cover our Texas State Aquarium which is right next door to the Lexington. (Probably due to time constraints, I imagine). It's another great thing to do here and you can spend an entire day there, too. It's partnered with The Harte Institute & has an Osearch area, too. Our TAMUCC Biology Dept work with the aquarium for research & studies. Dolphin shows, Wild Flight theatre, hands on exhibits like feeding the sting rays, etc are just a few things to do there. The construction several yrs ago added even more. There's a 4D theatre & even a zero depth water park area. That area is North Beach. It was formerly known as Corpus Christi beac. Add a trip to eat at Blackbeard's restaurant while there for some great seafood like Pirate Stew or Fish Tacos. Many people have come here and mistakenly thought North Beach was The Island, but it's our bay area. The Harbor Bridge to North Beach is in the process of being replaced these days so pay attention to construction signs or you may get turned around a bit.
Ocean Drive is definitely worth the trip & is also lit up beautifully at Christmastime.
Corpus Christi was the home of Ray H.S. graduate Farrah Fawcett. Lou Diamond Philip called CC home at one time, too.

You hit the nail on the head when you said it's a Texas city what hasn't reached its full potential yet. I've said for years that C.C. is supposed to be our San Diego. Especially with the maritime presence and influence with the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard around there. I'm a Navy Veteran. It's a beautiful place. Between infrastructure upgrades, Theme & Amusement Parks, High End Hotels, Tourist Amenities, Food options, Culture and overall recreational activities, if those were heavily invested in, Corpus Christi would be a global destination San Diego/Orlando hybrid...Tejano Style🤘🏾😎🌴🌴🌵

Reading some people's complaints about this place, I still really want to move there. I come from a rural home in the middle of nowhere and the conditions around here are like the cons of Corpus Christi x 10. Potholes in my area are unbearable, it takes 15 minutes by car just to reach a gas station or grocery store, there's no beach to make up for it, no tourist attractions, no public transit, currently no affordable housing available, and it's not bike friendly like Corpus Christi. So to me, Corpus Christi sounds as heavenly as it's name implies. Plus, the grass is LITERALLY greener in Corpus Christi 🤗

First trip to Corpus Christi, visited the Lexington just because it was a museum. Second time I knew my dad had served on two Essex class carriers so I could picture him all over the ship. That room that slept 6 had mesh metal bases for the berths, that was later. During the 40s and 50s for enlisted sailors the depth of your berth was elbow to tip of finger and a lot more flexible. Enjoyed the rest of Corpus too, you brought back some great memories.

The USS Lexington is fantastic. I once went there in the winter and somehow it was only like 45 degrees and rainy, no one went outside so I went to the Lexington and I was only one of 4 people there at the time. It was great to walk around it in near silence and really only ever encountering the mannequins. I'm a Star Trek fan so it was interesting to see how they based the Enterprise off of vessels like this. From a historical perspective it's a fabulous place to spend several hours.

Back in December of 2023 I kinda reconnected with some former military friends and every memory came back. When we were station aboard the USS Ranger CV61 in the Electrical department as young kids growing up. The one person I was communicating with was from Detroit, Michigan so I took it for granted thats were he was speaking to me on Cellphone from. Until I looked up telephone number and it said it was coming from this super beautiful city in Texas. So thinkijng relocating outta this snow capital Chicago I started looking around at possibilities. And Texas was never on my mind. Until I started looking at it world class beautiful cities.
From Houston to Dallas to coastal cities beautiful.

Some of the neighborhoods are a little run-down and rough. We go to Galveston about once a year instead of Corpus.

Corpus is for people who ain’t trying to be in the hustle n bustle traffic for 3 hrs just to get to work 😂. Who sits in traffic for hours just to get somewhere! Plus California people are causing havoc on SA and Austin highways! It’s like a mini skid row

Packery Channel is a joke and already is falling apart. North Beach is ok. Yea we got a Schlitterbahn Water Park for a little while, now we have yet another eye sore. Corpus sucks. Roads are garbage and when they try to fix them they take forever just so they break apart in a week. Water here is gross. One of the worst cities to live in when you take into account wages vs cost of living and wage growth is near non-existant. Lots of areas constantly smell like septic and has a homeless problem they won't address. Instead they shut down tunels and aded bars to any seat to deter them into other areas.

  • @thegreenforager2362

Sadly enough as it is Corpus needs reform and here’s why:
Our roads need to be redone
Our beaches are polluted with fecal matter there needs to be some sort of community effort to keep them clean and a new sewage drainage system that doesn’t lead into the ocean
Trash laws need to be placed, so much litter it’s unbearable they need to start fining people who litter
The homeless, I have a huge heart for the homeless but even I know we dont have enough shelters for them this needs to change since they end up housing themselves at local parks Ive seen tons of tents downtown near carancahua- they could totally redo downtown as well its fairly dated or at least renovate the older buildings that are capable of use, I know the state has a short budget but make use of that budget to reform or start a reform plan because this city needs it

Don't park your vehicle too long and adhere to all the signs. Those signs of take your stuff, lock your car also means for your trunks and truck lock boxes as well. 4 generations of millwright tools, dates from the late 1800s to the early 2000s were stolen from me. My tools are replaceable but my great grandfather's tools were not along with his boxes and they were in my locked tool box which looked as if they used a giant can opener to open it. According to the police, there was nothing they could do but I could check the pawn shops to see if they had my tools in there and that happened in front of a security camera at the OMNI Hotel parking garage. Yes, Corpus Christi is beautiful but it's fun to visit. Reminds me of Galveston...just don't stay too long. You'll end up with barnacles on the bottoms of your shoes.
