I always get a little sad when it's the last episode of a season, thanks for putting this podcast out for the last few years. Can't wait for next season
My piece of the Wall of Sound is a 2x12 cabinet that lives in my living room and is hooked up to my Internet Archive Time Machine streaming live Dead shows. I will eventually be buried in it.
This has been very interesting. The quality of the vinyl, cover, art, and slipcovers of Round Records was superlative. "Complements" is still my favorite Jerry album. "Rum Runners" is a precious jewel. We could tell the releases were really a labor of love for the band, and worried that they might be over-extending themselves by putting out such quality. I did anyway, and finally grieved at the label's demise. I didn't get to see the Dead during 1974. After "Mars Hotel" came out, we decoded the UGLY RUMORS glyphs on the back cover right away . And... ugly rumors of the band's impending break-up (or hopefully just hiatus) we had heard--- most regretfully. I thought the sound quality and the in-studio performances on Mars Hotel were the best the band had come out with yet. For me though, the up-tempo version of "Loose Lucy" on the album left me scratching my head. I really dug the slow version we had grown to love. The tempo change just didn't make any sense, and stripped the song of impact and sonic sexual innuendo. I didn't like the lyrics of "Money, Money" either, but loved the instrumentals with their snappy syncopation and Jerry's snarling guitar. So... mixed feelings there. When I'm driving, I find myself belting out the lyrics to "Pride Of Cucamonga" more than any other song, especially when I'm driving across Muskrat Flats.
Just to clear something up: the diminished chord in the song is an Edim7 (or Dbdim7 or Gdim7 or Bbdim7...they're all the same chord/scale/notes just inversions thereof). It's NOT F#dim as it says in the audio here. I know the transcription shows it a whole step up for guitar (whole step from E is F#), but that doesn't make any sense unless they're implying a capo or something. It's an Edim7 chord which acts as a leading tone substitute (jazz players would often play an A7b9 instead of a straight Bbdim which resolves from the 7th scale degree of the Bb major scale, A, up to the root in this song, Bb.) and transitional chord between the IV7 chord and the Bb chord. It also serves the same function in the chorus between the Gmin7 and Cmin7 chords.

Go tell it to the music martian clan that you obviously come from😂
Again like you’ve done in several other episodes, you totally went off on a tangent and avoided the main subject.
