I was hit by this unexpectedly. It was 4 am, I couldn’t sleep. I got this thumbnail suggested and randomly clicked on it. The opening hooked me hard! I had that moment that all DeadHeads know about. It was as if time stopped and all things came back to Jerry and the boys. As Jerry’s raspy voice calls out with the dog whistle, “Hey Now!” I melted. This is an incredible band, whose impact cannot be summarized. They produce moments in time that seem to sit outside of time. This opening hit me again, 10 degrees Fahrenheit outside, bundled up to the gills, in the woods, and I can’t help but dance to this. It's not the same, of course, but it's still brings that magic at shows. God bless Bob Weir, may he live forever! ❤ NFA ⚡
I was 11. Watched touch of grey video and thought wow this band must throw one hell of a concert and 5 yrs later I went to my 1st show at RFK June of 93 at 15yrs old and this band changed my life and I'm forever grateful .
The end of the era. Jerry substance abuse only gotten worst and the shows suffered. I went to a ton of shows between 81-92. I stopped because of the deterioration.🤯☹️😭
Aww thanks for sharing! I was 12 when he passed and no one in my family was a deadhead 😢 I wish I could have seen them live but so thankful for these videos and of course the tapes!
That's just not true. The music suffered at times because of Jerry's addictions, but through the early 90's he was able to put it aside long enough to put together some great shows. Just search TH-cam.
Definitely. Very different tone than Jerry, but fit right in. I wish they had let him go off a bit more. It seemed like he was just getting warmed up a couple times and they went back into the vocals.
2021 New Years I was bored quarantined and depressed Then I stumbled on this gem I sat 1 or 2 row center with my friend Carolynn benefit for the rainforest. Great show Weren’t they all
You lucky dog! Thanks for going. We still have to save the rainforest. Don't stop till we get the world we really want. Let it be a paradise filled with Saints!! Family ETLY.
I was buying cigarettes at a local Bodega when some reached in and stole my tickets. It a very DeadHead manor I did not panic but put up my miracle finger ( which was dry powder btw) and get a ticket. Then somehow stumbled into the after party in a mysterious loft in midtown with all the boys there. It was an incredible night
Totally Agreed! That loss of a tremendous talent and guitar contributions as from Mick Taylor and Stones could never recapture! I feel the best period was when Taylor added a whole incredible dimension to the body of Stones material back in the day!!
Taylor's pretty adoptable as he has toured with Dylan,Jack Bruce to name a few. Saw him in SF Slims a couple of times and the Great American Music Hall in 2000 and he did a great version of Butterfield's East/West.
I was 6 when they played this. It was about that year my friend Caroline (5yo) played me her favorite album on her dad's record player. It was Shakedown Street. She wanted me to hear Good Lovin.
I Was there! And at the after party at the Springler Building... What a great night that was, drank vodka and ginger ail with Jack Cassidy. Mickey Heart led some crazy drum conga line at the after party..Does not seem like 27 years ago... seems like just a few years ago... wow don't blink................
After Jerry Garcia died, they did an autopsy. The heart and the buttocks were missing. Conclusion…Jerry played his ass off and sang his heart out. And he did. I witnessed it. Peace Brothers and Sisters (:
Wow, I was 20 years old and drove into NYC from Albion MI with my girlfriend at the time and some college buddies. Remember sitting at an outdoor chess table passing around a large bottle of Gallo wine at a park in the village before the show.
I think I saw about half of the shows the Dead played at the garden and Nassau. A lot at the spectrum in Philly and Brenden Byrne and Giants stadium...Albany...they played a lot around the tri-state area while I was growing up.
I love how Mick Taylor advances to a second song. It's like he passed the try out and doesn't know it so he takes a bow. Then Jerry's like "stick around kid that was good".

Fun to see and hear 3 slides play well together, and Mick meshing well with the boys. And seeing Jerry happily playing with Mick :) Thank you Voodoonola for this one :)
Being as Little Red Rooster is pretty pure blues, I should think Keith and Ronnie could've held their own thank you very much. But you're right Mick Taylor is a better player in terms of proficiency. Pure feel? Keith all day.
Ron is still good. Keith isn't the same since he fell out the tree. mick T. was lyrical and melodic and understated and was good at i.provising...Those were the best years for the stones I lucky I got to see them back then they were wild... I don't know if mick still plays out ?
I was at this show and when hall and oats joined them, hall and oats family were on side stage and seemed amazed at them with the dead. It was surreal.
I’m looking forward to seeing hall and oats because I absolutely love their music but I would never imagine in a million years they’d be on the same stage as the dead. Will wonders ever cease? Pardon me for asking but was that Mick Taylor from the Stones? Wow!
i sadly missed this show..I would love to have seen Mick Taylor whth The GD..and came close to have been at this show. coincidentally my very !st GD show was 1yr before maybe to the day at MSG fall tour...So I remember going to try and score some tickets for these "88 fall MSG shows and fairly naively got burnt buying some 1 or 2 day old NY Yankees tickets from a fairly competent slickster scalper believing I was getting the goods..ha ha well he got me good...only $20 but what a bummer... so me and my friend got beat and had to find our way back home while on some super clean liquid that we thankfully didnt also get beat scoring, maybe 2 mins before getting those 2 day old Yankee tickets🤨🤨....NYC is a tough town LOL🫣 GOD BLESS THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!!
I was at this one, such a fantastic time. What was really surprising though was when I looked up during the intermission and saw Kermit the frog, yes the lovable Muppet, on the big screen talking about the rainforests. It was surreal.
I love this as always thank u very much u wonderful man for what u have done for us old heads because we will never forget those days ! ❤️🐰🐇💜👽🪐🛸🚀rocket in ur pocket as I say ! Will always love this older Dead ! 🥰😍😘
Dude... you are the Frickin Best! I remember listening to this on the radio too with a bunch of friends. I couldn't get tickets and didn't feel like taking the drive up from the Philly area to try and get tickets. Gonna throw this on Apple TV and enjoy. Thanks for post this gem.

My guitar teacher who taught a couple of important things that will stay with me forever managed to play with Mick Taylor, crazy Mick played with Jerry on the thumbnail I was like is that Taylor? Lol
This was a biggie for me as it was my 250th Grateful Dead show. It was a Benefit for the Rainforest at MSG in NYC. Several special guests appear throughout the show. It was the final show on a super fun 17-show East Coast Fall Tour ‘88. 🙏🏻😍🙏🏻
When my Mean Neighbor stresses me out at least I know THAT in the face of chaos I can always get back to my HAPPY PLACE...... LOVE THIS! Thank you for posting.
This was my first show. I was 15 years old. My friends and I were let loose on the city. Looking back, maybe it wasn't the "best" show I'd see, but in that moment, I couldn't imagine anything better. I was hooked. Thanks for posting. Great memories.
Thanks for posting this show. What awesome footage! Jah bless! This was 1 of the 15 shows at MSG. I caught 9 of them. This was a brilliant show. If my memory serves me right, I do believe Baba Olatungi opened this show and also, came in on the drums session. What a mind blowing 2 1/2 weeks that was!
Jerry LOVED playing in front of people. I'm not sure if it was the money, the energy, the vibe or all of it rolled into one. To see so many people dancing to the music you're playing has to be a major energy boost. I saw my first Dead show in 1987 at the Omni in Atlanta. And I was incredibly disappointed that I had been attending concerts since 1980 & felt like I could have been seeing these guys play for the past 6 or 7 years & although I was totally stoked at the music I was hearing but totally blown away by the whole energy of the audience of Dead heads. If you needed to hit the restroom to take a leak, you COULDN'T walk thru the halls. To be able to get thru you had to dance your way through!!
Wow, what a great video thanks for this. What a show. I’m now 56 and my wife of 2 years(together many more) who has never seen the dead has such an innocent perspective of their music. She being a musician who knows so much more than I says things like these guys are incredible, the library of songs they draw from I don’t know how they can memorize all the lyrics (& we watch a video where Bobby forgets half the lyrics to Jonny B Goode, lol) or after hearing if my many escapades wonders how they kept touring so much and asks how did they keep going without loosing their voices??? Then we listen to a show like this and she understands. Says to me, wow that guy just kept singing Ramble on Rose and he had nothing left. How did they keep going??? I loved seeing these guys. Was some of the best years of my life, every show was a life changing experience. Wish we were together back then.
What a truly magnificent show this is! Not to be missed! Best West LA Fadeaway AND Little Red Rooster by default simply for the added chops of Mr. Mick Taylor. Simply wonderful. Also my favorite Box of Rain.. excellent show to fall into The Phil Zone for.. Thanks so much for uploading this timeless piece of footage and awesome recording. NFA!
OK, I just have to share this..... I'm laying in bed with my tablet on my lap and headphones on, watching this great show. At the same time, I have the TV in the background on and what's playing is the musical Oklahoma! - the ragtime dance with the cowboys and Aunt Eller at the train station. Their dancing is in the same time signature as 🌹Ramble On Rose🌹 so they're dancing to the time of the Dead. I love when that happens! God Bless the Dead those times are truly missed, along with my late-husband and 6 of my Deadhead friends. ❤❤❤

Jerry’s voice is crackling in this one , so tired is he the poor man over stretched on so many shows because the deadheads demanded so much out of him + the rest of the band of course ! But to much is enough ! Thank u Bobby for being there !

Was gonna say but read comment - this was the show Mick Taylor guest. The Dead radioed their shows from MSG, The Meadowlands and everywhere they could. Coolest band ever they wanted everyone to have their music for free if they wanted their music. No royalties nothing asked for in return except to be cool.
I was at a house party during this live broadcast in high school. I found a boombox & put it on. Maybe the only Dead Head there but I had weed so i had people hanging out in the laundry room with the GD. Found out yrs later that the house i was at was my brother in laws Mom's house. He's a metalhead.
I also stayed home for this show. I think it was on WNEW? Lost the tape over the years, They also had Hall & Oates who did A great rendition of "EVERYTIME YOU GO AWAY" it was a great show. If I remember it was A RAIN FOREST SHOW. When I watched PULP FICTION And Vincent said he was Suzanne Vega's cousin it reminded me of this show. I think it may have been the one out of so many shows in NY I didn't go too. Being it was on the radio and I could record it. Other then that I don't think I missed many shows in NY, Especially JGB shows. They were the best! The other shows that were mainly from CAL. We were able to record was almost every NEW YEAR'S EVE! From around the early 80's till whenever they stopped doing it.
Only saw two Dead shows. The first was a week or two before they changed their name from the Warlocks to the Dead. The second was the last California concert Jerry did. (Shoreline) Ended up being one of the most bizarre days I ever lived. The two shows, Alpha and Omega.
Jerry has always been the man ! This shows how great the Gratefuldead r to share the stage with whoever wants to put his voice in there for saving the rain forest !
I was at this show. Kermit the frog inducted them into the MSG hall of fame and they raised a banner. Holy hell - great times.
Was totally there too. Sitting behind the stage. Wow - good times. So good I didn't realize it was such.

We live in the now.
Long live the Dead!
Aww thanks for sharing! I was 12 when he passed and no one in my family was a deadhead 😢
I wish I could have seen them live but so thankful for these videos and of course the tapes!
That's just not true. The music suffered at times because of Jerry's addictions, but through the early 90's he was able to put it aside long enough to put together some great shows. Just search TH-cam.
Mick Taylor's tone and phrasing are so good. He's one of the few guests I've seen play with the Dead who really added alot. It appears Jerry agrees.
Definitely. Very different tone than Jerry, but fit right in. I wish they had let him go off a bit more. It seemed like he was just getting warmed up a couple times and they went back into the vocals.
Branford Marsalis
2021 New Years I was bored quarantined and depressed
Then I stumbled on this gem I sat 1 or 2 row center with my friend Carolynn benefit for the rainforest.
Mick Taylor, Jack Casady, Bruce Hornsby, Suzanne Vega (?), Hall & Oates, a strong Phil vocal, and more cowbell!!! I'm in.
Just heard, yeah, Suzanne Vega.
lol.....just saw cowbell deeply embedded in drum jam...........
I have cowbell playlist since snl inspiration. short though
And Brent!! 🌹🌹🌹
Hall and oats
Cow bell
Great Box! Phil is in the zone, vocally, and he seems a little amazed at it, himself.
WOW! The Little Red Rooster with Mick Taylor is smokin' HOT!!!! Thanks so much for loading this killer show!
The best part is when Brent starts to sing. ❤
Drove down from Boston and was able to score a tic for this show. Then drove home with my bud through a beautiful night - both of us feeling grateful
Nice.
This was my 250th GD show. ❤
Mick Taylor and Jerry Garcia, ridiculous. The show was for a good cause, it was a fun night at MSG. Wetlands after party was a blast!
Nicely put ...good times.🌹
I was at wetlands at night I'll never forget it
ah, the Wetlands. Had many wild nights there. A bygone era ...
Wow! Mick Taylor. The best musician to ever be in the Rolling Stones
Mick is somehow pulling off the ascot while shredding the blues, unprecedented!
I attended, glad I did for this unique "Rain Forrest BENIFIT " GRATEFUL DEAD @ MSG, GOOD TIMES, THAT NIGHT.
I was there also
Last time I went to a MSG show
I was 6 when they played this. It was about that year my friend Caroline (5yo) played me her favorite album on her dad's record player. It was Shakedown Street. She wanted me to hear Good Lovin.
Nice. This was my 250th GD show. ❤
I remember taping this off the radio! Mick Taylor and Suzanne Vega, Fantastic!
I was here, gotta love the Box of Rain bust out. They are truly a band beyond description.
Possibly the finest Little Red Rooster ever!
Howlin'd be proud
I Was there! And at the after party at the Springler Building... What a great night that was, drank vodka and ginger ail with Jack Cassidy. Mickey Heart led some crazy drum conga line at the after party..Does not seem like 27 years ago... seems like just a few years ago... wow don't blink................
lucky you
@@UnkleBen yeah for real I wanna get in on the fun :)
I blinked
After Jerry Garcia died, they did an autopsy. The heart and the buttocks were missing. Conclusion…Jerry played his ass off and sang his heart out. And he did. I witnessed it. Peace Brothers and Sisters (:
Prime.
❤
Wow, I was 20 years old and drove into NYC from Albion MI with my girlfriend at the time and some college buddies. Remember sitting at an outdoor chess table passing around a large bottle of Gallo wine at a park in the village before the show.
Nice! This was my 250th GD show. ❤
Saw just about every MSG show in the 80's.. oh how I love it .. :-)
I think I saw about half of the shows the Dead played at the garden and Nassau. A lot at the spectrum in Philly and Brenden Byrne and Giants stadium...Albany...they played a lot around the tri-state area while I was growing up.
A lot of a lots equals many lot parties.
yeah @@isaacsilverman9976 did a lot of east coast shows too. I lived in NJ. Lots and lots of fun.. how I wish I did even more.
I love how Mick Taylor advances to a second song. It's like he passed the try out and doesn't know it so he takes a bow. Then Jerry's like "stick around kid that was good".

Don't think I've ever heard so much energy pumped into "What's Goin' On". Great fun!
My god! This show is pure Dynamite! Little red rooster is freaking RIDICULOUS awesome!! fantastic! Sound clear and loud love it (~);}
Mick Taylor!& Garcia WoW
Fun to see and hear 3 slides play well together, and Mick meshing well with the boys. And seeing Jerry happily playing with Mick :) Thank you Voodoonola for this one :)
What a beautiful show. Love Mick's playing, he blends well. And no offense to Keith and Ronnie, but Mick is on another level.
Being as Little Red Rooster is pretty pure blues, I should think Keith and Ronnie could've held their own thank you very much. But you're right Mick Taylor is a better player in terms of proficiency. Pure feel? Keith all day.
yep, well said sir.....especially ron wood....i never really heard him do anything but be a cute lil british shit
Ron is still good.
Keith isn't the same since he fell out the tree.
mick T. was lyrical and melodic and understated and was good at i.provising...Those were the best years for the stones I lucky I got to see them back then they were wild...
I don't know if mick still plays out ?
I was there. My first show.
I forgot I liked it already.. so I got to like it twice. Thanks man!
Wow!
Thank you to whomever recorded this show and thank you to whomever set this up on you tube. Really like it. . . .
I WAS AT THIS SHOW! AND HOW LUCKY WAS I...? I WAS ALREADY A BIG SUZANNE VEGA FAN!! THIS WAS JUST BEAUTIFUL WORLDS COLLIDING FOR ME!!
Yes!!
It was my 250th GD show. ❤
I was at this one. I remember being a little taken aback by Hall and Oats doing Every Time You Go Away with the boys.
They r really good. Saw them in Charelston😜
@@danosullivan7239 Have you seen I Can't Go For That live at Darryl's House with Ceelo Green? It's on you Tube, its killer.
They also did Whats goin on. It was great.
Caught me by surprise but they were decent.
@@DennisCampbell777 Yeah I watch that channel. Some great versions!
Man I really miss those days. Guess I really am getting old 😕
Were those days ever here at all?
No. No your not. Thats a lie. You are not getting old.
Time for Courvosier and busting rails. What would Jerry do?
@@stefanschleps8758 thats the million dollar question.
@@davidr1676 or was it all just a dream?
I knew that was happening to me when me and this kid were talking and he said "you really saw Jerry".
Accept it and

'88 Rainforest Benefit Show. I was there. Holy shit. I'm old.
Right there with ya! We may be old but we got to see all the cool bands!😂
Yup. It was my 250th GD show. ❤
Thanks for the Flashback today. This was an awesome point in time... Glad i was there🥰
I was at this show and during West LA with Mick Taylor My buddy saved me from a mushroom meltdown !
Friends
Rooster and fade-away are superb.
Cool. And, that's why one does that sort of thing with friends and, at a Grateful Dead show. 😎👍
Theres no such thing. As a lifelong grower I believe in macrodosing. Its the only way. Reset!
i sadly missed this show..I would love to have seen Mick Taylor whth The GD..and came close to have been at this show. coincidentally my very !st GD show was 1yr before maybe to the day at MSG fall tour...So I remember going to try and score some tickets for these "88 fall MSG shows and fairly naively got burnt buying some 1 or 2 day old NY Yankees tickets from a fairly competent slickster scalper believing I was getting the goods..ha ha well he got me good...only $20 but what a bummer... so me and my friend got beat and had to find our way back home while on some super clean liquid that we thankfully didnt also get beat scoring, maybe 2 mins before getting those 2 day old Yankee tickets🤨🤨....NYC is a tough town LOL🫣 GOD BLESS THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!!
This was my 250th GD show ❤
I was at this one, such a fantastic time. What was really surprising though was when I looked up during the intermission and saw Kermit the frog, yes the lovable Muppet, on the big screen talking about the rainforests. It was surreal.
Yuppp! It was my 250th GD show ❤
I love this as always thank u very much u wonderful man for what u have done for us old heads because we will never forget those days !
Should’ve taken the drive! 😮
This awesome night in MSG was my 250th GD show. ❤
MSG...the best arena to see a Dead show...I never missed any MSG shows
The sound is Fantastic!
:)
For sure! New York State of Mind
City always felt extra cool on those nights...down to subways and commuter trains.
great sound for a big joint
holy crap...
mick taylor !!!
you can see Jerry really appreciating him...
and mick fitting right in...
dancing and groovin with the dead !

You have to think Mick enjoyed this.

+marc bernicker I would say most of them are.
I was at this show Jerry really enjoyed playing w Mick Taylor...Boys at the Mecca ...doesn't get any better!!
My guitar teacher who taught a couple of important things that will stay with me forever managed to play with Mick Taylor, crazy Mick played with Jerry on the thumbnail I was like is that Taylor? Lol
This is sweet, you CAN really tell ol Jer was stoked o playin with Mick Taylor ...( the best Rolling Stones guitarist by FAR in my opinion.)
@@jeffriley2218 by forever far the only time they had a great live band imho like our type of live bands
That’s amazing!!! I bet if was super fun!! So lucky!
This was a biggie for me as it was my 250th Grateful Dead show.
It was a Benefit for the Rainforest at MSG in NYC. Several special guests appear throughout the show. It was the final show on a super fun 17-show East Coast Fall Tour ‘88. 🙏🏻😍🙏🏻
I saw my first this tour. Double encore Ripple Cap center
When my Mean Neighbor stresses me out at least I know THAT in the face of chaos I can always get back to my HAPPY PLACE...... LOVE THIS! Thank you for posting.
That bass sounds killer. On point. West LA is a walking dead man, two twisters side by side absolutely ripping up New York City.
What’s wrong with u people?
Just WOW!! Also, I am guessing the best 'West LA' ever.
It was indeed a great one!
Definitely in the top 140 West LA Fadeaways! ❤
When you go to a Dead show the parking lot becomes a living entity
I'm so glad I'm not one of the people who didn't want to see the greatness of not only this band but this show as well :)
Voodoonola you made my Friday...Thank you SoOOO much I needed this.
It's 7 years later and it's Friday. Voodoonola you made my night as well.
😆🐒🍄🍰🐊🎈
BRILLIANT
Gotta love Jerry's killer Tiger guitar and the glorious sounds he emits from it.
I would be so humbled to have Mick Taylor on my stage. I would be so humbled to be on the same stage with the Grateful Dead!! ☮️❤️☮️
I was at this show and at Giants Stadium the next year when they played in the pouring rain...pure gold...❤❤❤❤
This show was aired live on the radio in NY and NJ...!!! Jerry hooked everyone up!!!
These guys just tore it apart in Rooster. Totally Awesome.
My dad was 21 when this happened. I am now 21 listening just like he did. Something about the dead just clicks
now 56 and my wife of 2 years(together many more) who has never seen the dead has such an innocent perspective of their music.
NFA!
This is the best show ever here on TH-cam

Hurrah! - My favorite version of IKO - finally on screen - mind blowing. - - Bobby: Congratulations! You show with your shirt that you got good taste!
Voodoo love you!
I was at this show, all the MSG shows. The dead are still incredible 36 years later they still rock and maje you wanna move and dance.
Voodoonola!! Where art thou?! You are the King/Queen of quality Dead 💀 material... Gratitude 🙏

i miss the dead, my friends...

It was rough tour for Jerry. Saw them at Red Rocks earlier & the laryngitis was wreaking havoc, but he cowboy'd up.
Mick's stuff is so composed, the ideas are solid and melodic ,great structure
then came Bobbys slide solo.
@@lucky7mojo Haha!!!
The Hall and Pages songs just further prove how awesome Brent was❤❤❤
I was at a house party during this live broadcast in high school. I found a boombox & put it on. Maybe the only Dead Head there but I had weed so i had people hanging out in the laundry room with the GD. Found out yrs later that the house i was at was my brother in laws Mom's house. He's a metalhead.
Couldn’t go this night, but got to listen to at work live on the Radio!
Aww, this was my first time seeing them. Good times and so much nostalgia!
Nice 1st! ❤
This was my 250th GD show. ❤
That set with Hall and Oates is great!!!!!
This MSG show was my 250th GD show.
The What’s Going On is special. It shows Hall & Oates at their best & the groove from the Dead is spot on. Beautiful moment.
I never cared for hall + Oates so me being who I am don’t like anyone playing with Gratefuldead but them ! ❤️🐰🐇🌹🥳🤩🥰😘😍
Jerry has always been the man ! This shows how great the Gratefuldead r to share the stage with whoever wants to put his voice in there for saving the rain forest !
