They're ten minute collections of old ads, many of them cut together to be creepy and/or horny. The best ones I've started putting into the Jimquisition. By far the most fun part of my work lately is editing these horrible things.

I remember learning (I think it was in a behavioral economics class) that the more currencies you have to go through to buy something, the further removed that purchase is in your mind from actual money and so the more money you spend. So the more currencies a game has, the more it's been designed to take your money and the less it's been designed to be fun. Really though, one currency is too many.

As you said, its no accident that games have their own "premium" currency systems. It creates separation from real money and helps to obscure how much you're really spending.

In theory, engagement and fun should be synonymous. In practice, its far easier for companies to just try to force you to grind longer than to make that grinding feel meaningful, beneficial, and fun. There are plenty of loot grinder games that get it right, but letting people gain meaningful stuff from grinding might mean they don't need to buy crap from the in game store.
The Frogwares-Nacon situation feels like you playing around your friend's house when you're little, and suddenly your friend gets into a huge argument with their dad. Meanwhile, you're just sat there finishing your lunch, waiting for the yelling to stop.

So two things. 1. I'm really sad The Sinking City was so buggy, because my first hour or two was SUPER intriguing...then I couldn't play the game any. And then 2. Why does No Man Sky ever come up in talks like this? I thought that was the idea behind it too
I completely killed my dad's enthusiasm for Forza 4 when I told him that it was four times as grindy as 3. That was his biggest complaint about 3; he wanted faster access to new cars and tracks instead of having to play the same races over and over. I assured him that it was fine; he could pay up to sixty real-world dollars to skip the grind and buy a virtual car only usable in Forza 4. Needless to say, he did not buy Forza 4.
I had a flik flak when I was young. It completely fell apart after a while. So, I will assume the add being here is a subtle reference to the video game industry.
The three people that comprise the entirety of Avengers' player base probably are confused at leveling up because they still haven't figured out how to close the game yet. Think of those poor, confused people.
I loved that show as a kid. Actually looked it up again recently and found out they had 2 more seasons like a decade later, although not with the same actors AFAIK.
The only way to save this game would be to remove all microtransactions, release a shitload of hero and villain content and add more levels/game modes, then drop the price to $40.

Plus, if you played co-op with certain team members, you'd get an extra team bonus. When they started talking about upgrades to Hulk's ribcage, I thought it was just a joke. The real joke is that it isn't.

One of my favourite game mechanics was in Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition. It was called expert mode. It allowed you to essentially stockpile experience points so that you could manually control your character's level for balancing purposes as well as pace the game better. Problem solved.
I never (ever felt like this) expected the 'Round the Twist' theme song to pop up in a video like this. I am now overwhelmed with nostalgia. My day has been made.

Man, I remember the first time I leveled up in Skyrim, and had to choose between dozens of interesting perks. I remember thinking: "if only these were boring and I had to grind hours for them to unlock. They should make this game more of a chore to play!"
Making the grind longer to keep people around is a retread of the early MMO days. A lot of early MMOs had really long grind where is could take nearly a year of heavy playing to reach max level. The thinking was if they reach max level they will "finish" the game and leave. Now they shifted to get players to max level as fast as possible and let them grind on loot.

So two things. 1. I'm really sad The Sinking City was so buggy, because my first hour or two was SUPER intriguing...then I couldn't play the game any. And then 2. Why does No Man Sky ever come up in talks like this? I thought that was the idea behind it too
I completely killed my dad's enthusiasm for Forza 4 when I told him that it was four times as grindy as 3. That was his biggest complaint about 3; he wanted faster access to new cars and tracks instead of having to play the same races over and over. I assured him that it was fine; he could pay up to sixty real-world dollars to skip the grind and buy a virtual car only usable in Forza 4.
Needless to say, he did not buy Forza 4.
I had a flik flak when I was young. It completely fell apart after a while.

When they say "new player" do they mean players new to 'The Avengers' or players new to videogames on the whole? 'Cause anyone who's played 99% of games released over the last two generations know's what the fucking fuck levelling is and what skill points are.
My guess it means they think their players are like brainless, blind puppies, who have no clue what the hell are they doing or what’s going on on the screen, no matter the experience in video games.
Same kinda stupid shit came from the Outriders lead dev the other day, to justify the importance of tons of loading screens between short areas (lol), which is obviously a problem with how they managed the game engine.
After a statement like that I’d flip the bird to the devs and their games.
I'm still amazed how they over-complicated Avengers when Ultimate Alliance was a glorious, campy but good game . Just up the engine give it some wild comic plot and cash in.

Plus, if you played co-op with certain team members, you'd get an extra team bonus. And every level you'd run into some Marvel villains; some where fan favorites and others were deep cuts, but you were always happy to see them. And you just had to pay the once.

One of my favourite game mechanics was in Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition. It was called expert mode. It allowed you to essentially stockpile experience points so that you could manually control your character's level for balancing purposes as well as pace the game better.
Problem solved.
I never (ever felt like this) expected the 'Round the Twist' theme song to pop up in a video like this. I am now overwhelmed with nostalgia. My day has been made.

Man, I remember the first time I leveled up in Skyrim, and had to choose between dozens of interesting perks. I remember thinking: "if only these were boring and I had to grind hours for them to unlock. They should make this game more of a chore to play!"
Making the grind longer to keep people around is a retread of the early MMO days. A lot of early MMOs had really long grind where is could take nearly a year of heavy playing to reach max level. The thinking was if they reach max level they will "finish" the game and leave. Now they shifted to get players to max level as fast as possible and let them grind on loot.
