I'm sorry it I seriously don't understand why there are so many bad points in this video. After living with one for a year it's practical, packed with tech, is comfortable, and handles very well with the 2.0l diesel bluetech automatic and is great for town and motorway driving. I think you need to own one to appreciate it
I agree, the review was quite negative of this car and although it might not be better than the new Astra or the Golf, it's definitely not that bad. I'd say much better than the much more popular Focus. And it looks the best I think as well
Well, that's why there are so many models in this class: because everyone has different needs. The Focus handles absolutely brilliant. Best handling car in its class. For me, that is the best car to have in this class. For someone that doesn't drive that fast in the corners, it will not be worth it. It's all a matter of perspective; every car has downsides and upsides, and I think this review did an excellent job at pointing them out.
i have the 308 now, and i drive realy fast trought corners. Well over the road limits and it handless very very well!! and bealive me, i push it to the limit. if somebody, anybody, neads more "sportiness" from a car there are models like GTI, RS, OPC ecc..... For the everyday roads the 308 handless 10/10 there is 1 thing from this review that is not truth, and it's the wind noise. the car is silent and very well isolated. no wind noise, engine noise..... ( sorry for my bad english)
I also drive a 308 and love it. Changed from a 2014 golf because it was so unreliable. And I don't know why he says the infotainment is laggy or what ever because in my opinion and in the opinion of my friend who upgraded from a Passat to the 508 we both agree the infotainment systems in the pugs are miles better than the vw and they are defiantly better quality.
It is a lovely car. The only thing I don't like is the absence of a CD player though. I'm after something a bit bigger next time so I may plump for a Vauxhall Insignia instead of a 308 mark two!

The car just had a midlife lift. Maybe a second unbiased check will make wonders.

This review is extremely biased, it looks as it was made by a german! I've been the owner of a 308 for more than 5 years. The car is close to perfect, by far the best I ever owned and one of the best that I've driven. Seats are spot on, so is steering (best wheel in the market, once you get used to it the rest seem like truck steering wheels), perfect chassis, biggest trunk space in the segment when it was introduced in the market, amazing design (both interior and exterior), better performance compared than other cars with similar engines (due to lower weight, I guess), very good quality of materials, excellent LED lighting and reliability which has been superb up to this day. The price was much cheaper than the equivalent Golf, btw a friend of mine bought the VW and had some issues and I couldn't notice a thing in which it'd be better (apart from the tech and navigator which is awful in the 308). Gear changing is not bad once you get used to it but could be improved, I've tried faster gear knobs. A bit of wind noise in the mirrors as in every other car in this segment and... that's about it, no more faults. I've travelled with 3 additional passengers and nobody complained about the space, most of them fell asleep due to a very confortable ride and seats, many people has praised my car over the years and some members of my family even offered to buy it. Probably the most underrated car in the market as of now and I'm really willing to see how much Peugeot can improve for the next gen. As mentioned in another comment, you probably need to own it to really appreciate it.
At 3:45... You show the rear visibilty of a Megane probably, not the 308. Look at the sticker... "Renault/ELF". Now Peugeot puts these stickers on their rear windows? Biased review.
Damn you're right! I just compared that shot through the back of the window, to the one earlier, when Matt sits in the back seat and it's definitely a different car! Matt you better have some real good explanation for this, or I'm unsubscribing. It's unacceptable practice, I'm losing respect and fast!

I thought it was the Peugeot, but they positioned the camera at hip level. I stand corrected, When you look at the ceiling, there is a ridge, the car is not supposed to have a ridge. It is smooth all the way to the booth lid with a light just at the end, so yes that is not of the 308.
I've had one of these, a GT line with the 1.2 turbo engine for about four & a half months now & probably the only thing I found remotely annoying was the size of the glove box, but I got over that quickly. Yes, having knobs for the heating etc might have been easier, but I've got used to that so not a problem & I also find the touch screen easy to use, so not unintuitive! I actually had a BMW before this, albeit an older model that became expensive to keep repairing as well as run & tax etc so decided on a complete change & having driven most of the usual suspects I decided on this & very happy with it so far!!
@Jerry Rawlings .....I had mine for 3 years from new & was absolutely fine apart from a few very minor things sorted under warranty. I liked the 308 so much that when my lease ended, I got the GTi version.......that's a totally different animal though, but been very reliable too!
@Jerry Rawlings .....I'm on a couple of 308 forums on Facebook, which often have a lot of positive feedback but highlight the problems people may have encountered! If you're getting a year old car, then you've got the balance of the warranty left so should be fine 'just in case' but my experience, and that of some of my friends with them, has been all positive! Which engine & trim are you going for?
@Jerry Rawlings the 1.2 is a nippy little thing...... surprising considering the size of the engine! I had a GT line........have you test driven one yet? The smaller steering wheel & way the instrument binnacle is set out isn't for everyone, but was fine for me! Some reviewers day it's fiddly changing temperature via the touchscreen......took me like 10 seconds to get used to that & never been an issue! I've not tried the auto as both of mine have been manual, but my friend has one & she says it's good & nice and smooth & licks down well!
Mat, if you think that the Golf has a better quality interior, why don't you tap between the Golf's infotainment display and aircon? The same thing will happen, you will hurt your finger. My point is, Golf has the same quality as this Pug....
Never *lol* Look at how the parts are welded. Wait for how long the exhaust will be ok. Look at thickness and quality of the paint. Look at quality of the brakes. They can fool a average customer, but not an engineer.
Golf is definitely cheaper made, easy to notice if you are an engineer as me. In the wintertime Golf also has a lot of rattle noises going on, why VW, oh why be cheap?
I have a 2004 206 and a 2006 407 in my house, both have the paint in perfect condition, the brakes as you say is always bosh or brembo if you go to the dealer and they really brake hard, the rest never had problems so I will assume it is fine to... by the way speaking of brakes my dad only had a car broking a brake disk and it was a Golf II GTD at the time 6 years old...
audi pay more for far less, mercedes nothing like having a French car thinking Is german, vw a cheaper audi, seat even cheaper vw thinks is fast, mazda is the only one I would respect but lacks to many extras and lacks engine choose...
This car handles great, maybe helped by small steering wheel, always feels nimble for quite a big car. Passenger room in the back is fine and seats are comfortable. Never feel trapped.
bought a 2015 308 yesterday 1.2 Turbo active and i love it much better than golf / polo and all their dsg issues and jerks expensive to maintain but peogeots interior is classy, clean & unique 6 speed torque converter made in japan by asini its just perfect and the 4.4l/100km is awesome
@Jerry Rawlings reliable if you change the engine belt at 90k kms the only issue this car has is the belt in oil system other than that the transmission is made in japan so very reliable
Shifts bad? Wtf are you talking about? Got this car myself and it shifts very wel, even at the garage people who know there shit claim the 308 shifts better then most modern cars.
I have tried P308 1.6 HDI and I can say, it is great comfortable car, no problem with dashborard (I am 180cm tall) and engine diesel 1.6 HDI is really great, much better than VW 1.6 TDI which is noisy .. ! :-)
I bought one a week ago, an older one. It pulls like a train and I love it. Nowhere can I find a button for the rear window demister for when the frost arrives!!
Ive driven 2016 exact model as this. And Im kinda JDM/German guy... And I think this thing looks and drives solid. Build quality is amazing! I never tought that french cars can achieve this level of quality in a middle class segment of hatchbacks. It is very pleasent to drive and it is dynamic(likes fast driving). I just think that automatic isn't quite the fastest when it comes to shifts but would certainly pick auto over manual. Gotta stay focused and save up for Seat Leon FR!
i drive one myselfe, the only thing i find annoying is the reaction of airflow when windows opened. The eardrums don't like it. Last of it for a 3 to 4 ppl solution, you hit gold. And if ya can't but just can test one do it :) rly fine craftmanship
Previously owned a 308 Allure 1.6 diesel, superb car cannot fault it in anyway. Now I have the 2.0 diesel. Previously owning a Golf GTD, I have to say I do prefer the 308.
The thing about the rear leg room is, if you can swivel your legs from side to side (which he does) and not touch the backrest then it ain't too bad in all fairness 🤷♂️ get more space than on a Ryanair flight
Please check again your comments on this video: for example the visibility is ok, there is no noise from outside and the quality of the cabin is quite good.
@@jerryrawlings8885 it is very reliable, and absolutely brilliant in snow to get you to where you need to go, better than my skoda that i had before this
I'm learning to drive in one of these. The steering wheel that blocks the gauges is a big issue for me. Its a choice between knee room or gauge visibility for anyone with long leg.
I love this car I have driven this exact model and I have to disagree with a lot of your review it's very nippy very precise driving loads of room front and back (for it's class size ) does near 60 mpg for me the manual gear box is NOT notchy driving position tho' slightly offset is not bad at all , it's easy to park in any space has a rear view camera to aid parking , it infotainment/on screen controls although not THE best they are pretty good within the class of cars it competes with , and finally it's fun to drive it really is my last 10 cars have been 2 Q3s - 2 Q7s - 2 Q5 an A5 an A6 a Bmw 5 series and a Skoda Kodiak ...apart from the Skoda Kodiak the little 308 has been my favourite "little car " hands down . as for the Kodiak , that has been a revelation too would definately have another Kodiak over any of the Audi offerings currently available .
gearbox is ok, but the pedals are absolute shit, you can barely feel the clutch engage and the first half of your foot release doesnt seem to do anything. Next part does, and again latest quarter does absolutly nothing. Same story for the brakes, they are not linear what so ever
I drove this car during my summer job. It was the 308 1.6L 120HP BlueHDi Allure spec. As you said the engine has a lot of punch, but a fair bit of turbo lag. I personally loved the ride of the 308 however I felt like the steering wheel wasn't connected to the front wheels and the small steering wheel bugs me. I also dislike that the climate controls are controlled from the touch screen infotainment systems, I would've preferred knobs to turn. In summary, the infotainment system is sluggish. Another problem I found is that the manual gear change is dull, It just feels cheap compared to the Astra or Focus.
It would be much appreciated if you could explain what went on in 03:43 overall I found this review to be biased, but this is subjective i guess. Now that part with the rear view of what appears to be a Renault came as a shock, it would be nice if you could explain what happened, otherwise people will think you are misrepresenting the car, and it puts in doubt even your ethics.
Yeah that's pretty insane, Peugeot is taking a pretty good way since many years now. I'm working on a video that sum up every comments that describe correctly this car. I would like to use your if you are comfortable with it ? Please contact me, that would be awesome !! ber.aymes@gmail.com Dziękuję bardzo!!!
I bought 308 GT 180 EAT8:- You have to set up the climate whilst parked - impossible (dangerous) to readjust while driving. The sat nav is impossible (very dangerous) to reset after accidentally touching the wrong spot on the screen while driving. This is particularly serious on major roads. My Garmin on the other hand lets me switch on to my route as I am approaching my destination - I don't have to listen to it for hours of driving on familiar roads. Also very irritating is not being able to use the radio while parked, say waiting for a passenger - it goes into "economy mode" and switches off - unless you keep the engine running - illegal or soon will be. Also if your expert would be so kind to tell us how to turn off the enhanced hifi-speaker engine sound in "sport" mode - is the annoying noise a deterrent from using it - some sort of economy nudge by Peugeot? I have the Denon speaker version and whilst it might make the pseudo engine noise impress adolescents and younger, it doesn't impress me or other adults that might enjoy listening to radio or music. On the plus side, its a nice drive especially on winding country roads.
Hey genius the whole concept of the icockpit and its small steering wheel is so it can be set just below the dash, which is up closer to the front view of the road. Saying the steering can block the dash is just cos you’re not setting it properly and missing the whole concept of the design.
I've got a 1.6 bluehdi 120 BHP allure version on 16 inch alloys. Don't buy if you are after fuel economy as claimed 85mpg combined is a big lie, you'll get 60 mpg if you're extremely lucky. My old 308 active 92bhp 2011 returned a fantastic average 56mpg against an official figure of 67mpg!!

Peugeot is egal quality like Golf,
The best hatchback.
Lol what?? Audi, Mercedes, Mazda, VW, Seat all better than Peugeot hatchbacks
What about BMW?
+Mr Smith black man's willy Mr Smith ;)
audi pay more for far less, mercedes nothing like having a French car thinking Is german, vw a cheaper audi, seat even cheaper vw thinks is fast, mazda is the only one I would respect but lacks to many extras and lacks engine choose...
+Rui agree with you, spot on points.
I really like these, an underrated car IMO.
In Denmark it is the second best selling car model in 2016 so far, after the 208 :)
Yes it's a really great car !
Is peugeot popular in Danmark ?
Yes, very much. Mainly because Peugeot in Denmark have very good leasing offers.
ok thank you for your answer :D
Still a cracking relaxing and comfy car even in 2020. Love my 2015 model.
@Jerry Rawlings indeed, very good, although it is low mileage. Never missed a beat
I have the GT version from 2015 too and I really love it insane value for money
why you showed the back of the megane instead of the 308 , can you explain that ?
This car handles great, maybe helped by small steering wheel, always feels nimble for quite a big car.
Passenger room in the back is fine and seats are comfortable. Never feel trapped.
Peugeot has always been better looking than boring Golf, u guyz are blind or u just don't like the brand like Peugeot, so as Matt :)
bought a 2015 308 yesterday 1.2 Turbo active and i love it much better than golf / polo and all their dsg issues and jerks expensive to maintain but peogeots interior is classy, clean & unique 6 speed torque converter made in japan by asini its just perfect and the 4.4l/100km is awesome
@Jerry Rawlings reliable if you change the engine belt at 90k kms the only issue this car has is the belt in oil system other than that the transmission is made in japan so very reliable
what’s your thoughts after all these years about the car? still have it ?
What a design ! The Peugeot 308 is a statement car.
I have a 308 1.6 diesel and I am soooo happy with it.
@Jerry Rawlings so far so good. One headlamp gone, that's it!
Real good on fuel...getting between 50-60 mpg and that's in town!
I have a 2016 1.6 bluehdi 120. 210 000 miles on the clock and still drives as smoothly as first day 😅
Bought by VW and Ford, how much did you get?
Gotta stay focused and save up for Seat Leon FR!
it 's the french company Faurecia who make the interior, they make the interior of german premium too. they know how to make quality
i drive one myselfe, the only thing i find annoying is the reaction of airflow when windows opened. The eardrums don't like it. Last of it for a 3 to 4 ppl solution, you hit gold. And if ya can't but just can test one do it :) rly fine craftmanship
love the reviews, but please normalize your audio levels (it get inaudible at times when you turn your head)
+sebxx that's my fault. I talk off mic. Will try to stop it.
Wow Mat, its 20:30 in uk, this is how you spend your friday nights?
+MS you don't seem to be doing much, plus it is car wow replying so it doesn't just have to be him
+carwow please do the facelifted c4. then you can do the battle of the French hatchbacks C4, 308 and megane.
+carwow no worries, it's an easy postprod fix
Previously owned a 308 Allure 1.6 diesel, superb car cannot fault it in anyway. Now I have the 2.0 diesel.
Previously owning a Golf GTD, I have to say I do prefer the 308.
Who the hell flicks plastic in a car anyway lol
No one, but that plastic he talked about is dreadful bearing in mind the rest of the car's plastic is really good.
Matt, we are waiting for review of 308 2022
The thing about the rear leg room is, if you can swivel your legs from side to side (which he does) and not touch the backrest then it ain't too bad in all fairness 🤷♂️ get more space than on a Ryanair flight
I love mine, so comfortable a looks great. The only problem is as he said I get a lot of wind noise .
When Is the 7 series review coming, I have been waiting so patiently 😔
Hdi is the best diesel engine you could possibly have in any family car.
You're so brutal with the car, it hurts
yeah honestly it's a stupid review
@@jazz96765 i hated how he slammed the 5th door
Please check again your comments on this video: for example the visibility is ok, there is no noise from outside and the quality of the cabin is quite good.
i have wind noise
Good looking interior tbh
Externally, probably the best looking car in its class - with the Astra. The center console and steering wheel look wrong!
Yeah, we should keep the things we invented in the beginning of cars forever? Not!
one big suggestion is plz talk more about the car numbers,0 to 60's bhp, torque etc
Dear Matt, you do realise ..the view towards the rear that was included in this video belongs to another car!!!!
I have this car, but the 2.0bluehdi auto and I love it, its a great car to drive and cheap to run
Andrew Harley Hi is it reliable any problems many thanks.
@@jerryrawlings8885 it is very reliable, and absolutely brilliant in snow to get you to where you need to go, better than my skoda that i had before this
This is not 2018 for sure. The late 2017 start the facelift and this is not the one :)
3:43 + the window is Renault elf ++ the Peugeot has a sunroof at the beginning but there we see no light in it!
BELIEVE ME GREAT CAR
VW funboy
You showed a Renault for the rear visibility!
It’s really nice and fantastic car. good work French 👌
Great video! Finally recieving mine tomorrow, cant wait😄
They updated the cpu in the resent production of the 308.
It was a 16 plate car
It would be much appreciated if you could explain what went on in 03:43 overall I found this review to be biased, but this is subjective i guess. Now that part with the rear view of what appears to be a Renault came as a shock, it would be nice if you could explain what happened, otherwise people will think you are misrepresenting the car, and it puts in doubt even your ethics.
Video was published in 2016, but the review is a 2018 review. IM CONFUSED?
Pedals and gearshifter are loose as always in peugeot. But it is very soft feeling to drive and they are reliable
If a car doesn't come standard with either reversing sensors or a camera, forget it. And the big companies should have them standard across the range.
Love the design. But I would prefer Honda Jazz with its practicality
beautiful car
i would go for a trim without the damn electronic parking brake (I'm a clarksonist)
even the basic model comes with an electric handbrake. so it looks like you can't have this car at all.
It's above Active it doesn't get a nice old fashioned handbrake.
MANIAC
Maniac!
2.0 diesel remaps to 200bhp 💪🏻
I have exactly same Peugeot 308 from 2017. Love this car!!! German cars sucks!
Kaz Banks Hi I'm looking at this is yours reliable would you recommend diesel or petrol many thanks.
Awesome Car, Peugeot are going upmarket and good for them too - boring, emission cheating German cars look out!
Better than Golf 7
Tuve el Audi a3 y me cambié al 308 claramente el Peugeot es mucho mejor y divertido de conducir.
Would you buy this car or the volvo v40?
Title 308 gti 2018.video os from 2016. What a low move car wow
That really does look like today's weather!
Hey genius the whole concept of the icockpit and its small steering wheel is so it can be set just below the dash, which is up closer to the front view of the road. Saying the steering can block the dash is just cos you’re not setting it properly and missing the whole concept of the design.
Good review just one thin, around 3,40 min when talking about rear visibility you showed a Renault Megane view ( you see Renault Elf sticker)
It always rains during the filming :)
come on man do the 208 ! cant wait for it !
Exterior looks better then the interior by far
Bro wath its your problem? You like precedent car 308 or wath?
Lets see whats new 308 in 2021 will looks like 🦁 2 weeks left to wait! 😃👍
What car cant you say ‘at some angles the steering wheel can obstruct the view of the instruments’?
It's one of those cars that I really like but I would have never got one for myself
any plans to review alfa romeos? that giulia's looking fiiiiiiine :3
Please review also the new 308 2021.
Am getting mine in two weeks looking forward to it 😎😎😎
the backseat legroom is poor so it make sense to just get the 208?
Cant decide. P 308 or Ford Fiesta 2018?
Did I miss engine range or didn't you talk about it? Is there petrol versions?
Yes there are several 1.2T and a 1.6T petrol options available.
Can you do the new 308
I've got a 1.6 bluehdi 120 BHP allure version on 16 inch alloys. Don't buy if you are after fuel economy as claimed 85mpg combined is a big lie, you'll get 60 mpg if you're extremely lucky. My old 308 active 92bhp 2011 returned a fantastic average 56mpg against an official figure of 67mpg!!
Great review. I have this car for the foreseeable future as a courtesy car whilst mine is getting repaired. It's a little different to my basic-spec Fiat 500! haha
