    It is god tier because it is NEVER out of place, even sitting next to a Patek or Rolex. Poor people wear them, and so do rich people. Presidents wear them and so do terrorists. The MDV106 is built like a (non-Cartier) tank. It’s a bog basic dive watch. But then again, so is Rolex. And Casio sells it for $50 and it’s actually fit for what it would be used for. It’s not God Tier for the reasons of Patek or Rolex in its submariner’s basic design. But it is God tier because it exists OUTSIDE the tier system and not WITHIN it.

    First, I’m not a huge fan of hyperbole and calling anything God Tier seems silly. I think Casios are popular because they are so attainable and seem snob proof. I personally only like their G Shock Line myself. Thanks and looking forward to the review of the Addiesdive.

    I think god tier is a meaningless label. However, I do think Casio has innovated more in watches than any other brand in the last fifty years. Casio was part of the quartz revolution that brought the Swiss to their knees and forced companies like Rolex to retreat into the luxury market where perceived status is more important than accuracy and durability. Before quartz, most watches were incredibly inaccurate, very easily damaged (I challenge any Rolex owner to deliberately drop their watch from waist height onto concrete!) and yet relatively expensive for the average person. Casio gave the masses accuracy to few seconds a month (chronometers 😁) ,perpetual calenders, chronographs with lap timing and 1/100th seconds, moon/tide phases etc all at a price even those in the third world could afford. They democratized accurate wrist watches, if that isn't a worthwhile achievement in horology, what is?

    I own 3 solar casio watches, and working in law enforcement for the last 21 years you will see the vast majority of officers wearing casio g shocks and it’s because they are cheap and durable. If you break one you might be pissed you broke your watch, but they are cheap, that’s what gives them status, emt’s/firefighters/police/corrections/construction any craft or trade where your going to break your watch usually will go with casio. For $30 a timex or casio is the go to brand.

    I suppose it all depends on how you define “God Tier”, for me this category shouldn’t be confined to luxury watches. The astonishing popularity and variety of Casio watches is enough to elevate them to this level. Also yesterday I had a good chat with a young waiter in a restaurant about the Casios we were both wearing so I disagree with your assertion that they’re not conversation starters! Nevertheless thanks for this vid, a real pot stirrer in the best possible way!

    I've said it on other channels (I don't remember if it's here too): Casio is no longer the first option for me in affordable digital, Timex Armitron and SKMEI definitely give you more quality for your money. However, the G-Shock, Ediffice, and Pro-Trek are still great.

    Agree with other commenter that said calling anything God-tier is silly. That aside, I think you can have a great collectiopn just in the Casio fold with Casio, ProTrek, G-Shock and Oceanus. Some of them in the thousands of dollars range, so most of us would have to save to get the top level ones. Casio just does it for me. I have 6 Casios analog and digital and 9 G-Shocks, besides a few others from other brands that'll I'll probably sell off soon. After more than 40 plus year in the watch "journey" just can't be bothered with autos or mechanicals anymore and I appreciate the lack of weight and thus comfort of a plastic watch. Not to mention that with their modular construction a G-Shock can look pristine for as long as you want them to.

    I get your points... But I think part of the charm with Casio is exactly all the points that you mention.
    The whole god tier thing is just branding for Nicos channel. It makes his luxury watch content more relatable for the everyday person if he also raves on about Casio too.
    But yeah, it's clear that you aren't a big Casio fan, and that's okay. But they do make some fantastic watches... Casio Royale, f91w, dw5600... Those world time modules are a thing of magnificence, 31 time zones with just a few clicks of a button... Which over watch on the planet does that!?

    I think the idea isn't that specific Casio models are God-tier, but rather that Casio is a God-tier watch company. No other company has brought reliable, accessible time keeping to the masses like Casio has.
    Remember, there was a time, before the ubiquity of smartphones, when a watch was much more of a necessity, and so affordability was important to many.
    I wear a G-Shock when riding my dirt bike or going camping and hiking, since those activities could wreck havoc on more delicate, costlier watches. And that G-Shock is miles better than a MoonSwatch. At least the pushers aren't falling off 😂

  • @sivanstar
    @sivanstar 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    i humbly disagree.
    lets keep the "god tier" phrase aside for a moment. as a tool of telling time there is nothing more accurate, reliable and recogniseable than casio.
    most of us had one when we grew up, thats what made us get into watches as adults and have that nostalgia.
    saying casio is boring is crazy dude, its a huge brand with luxuries peices innovation and originality.
    i have a tough solar carbon casio edifice, its reliable, accurate, light and it IS a conversation starter bc people see that beautiful case and ask what is it..
    i also have a metal tough solar g shock, not the trendy ones, the gstb100. thats kinda like a zombie apocolypse watch and no mechanical watch can rival it.
    saying "god tier" is a catch phrase and catchy but i wouldnt really call any brand god tier. god is flawless and perfect, theres no such thing in horology.
    rolex? omega? ap? pattek? those are god tier?? besides the fact that theyre overpriced, theyre far from perfect and still not accurate like my edifice or G.
    tbh i have some big no nos like other people, mine are:
    fake watches
    brands who blantly do not respect their customres
    money grabs
    otherwise you can wear whatever you want that makes you happy.
    and if i sit with you talking abt watches i will never tell you, your rolex is overpiced or your pisswatch is a money grab. and if by any chance you tell me those are god tier i will politely and respectfully disagree.

    Happy new year, Chris! I hope you hired some private security before posting this video... I have a sneaky suspicion that you might need it :)
    I think you make some great points. There is definitely a bit of a hype-train about Casios, especially in the watch community. Comparing a Casio to an Omega or Rolex or something from the holy trinity definitely makes the label 'god tier' a bit suspicious.
    In my opinion, the real argument for calling Casio 'god tier' is the fact that they offer the most affordable entry point for consumers into the world of real horology, the world of watch brands that have had a major impact on how time is told on many a wrist. This is what makes Casio great in my opinion. You want to spend 30 bucks on a watch that covers basically whatever you might need, has a reputation of overdelivering on specs and comes from a brand with real pedigree? No need to think twice, a Casio is arguably the best choice. This is what makes Casio special.
    They also have some slightly more higher end stuff that is interesting as well. The oceanus line has some gems. Plus some vintage models from the 70s when digitals were in the 'expensive side of the market'.
    The model you have on your wrist is cool, never seen it before. Maybe do a review of it, Chris. Definitely looks like a bit of a tamer Flightmaster on first impression.

      @MirrlyonTime  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Just to play the counterpoint -
    3 reasons they are god tier:
    1) Everyone knows who Casio is (and you can most often spot them/identify them on the wrist)
    2) Some of their watches are respected (maybe not liked or owned as shown by this video) by almost all collectors (G-shock range, Worldtime, Duro).
    3) Most peoples (including many high end collectors) watch journey starts/started with a Casio (often as a teenager 1st watch).
