Hey fellow Norwegian here, its pronounced Berg-eh ;) I've always rated him highly, and wondered when a top prem club would take a chance on him. He's tidy, industrious, and very rarely makes mistakes - I can't stress how much I recommend him as a squad player for us.

Not first choices, but they bring something to midfield that case, eriksen, mctominay and even amrabat can't provide. Think of it like endo to liverpool - not their first choice, but their sensible second choice. And he put in a decent season for them. We need players like that now, also on the bench, instead of specialists like mctominay and eriksen that don't fit our needs anymore, unfortunately

Perfect stop gap signing. I also wanted him under Ole. Good enough in the first phase, Carrying and ground coverage. Solid 7/10 every week type player and can even play with either Kobbie or Cas as he Complement s their weaknesses.

I think there's redeemable upside to Berge that a lot of fans are overlooking because he's not a big name or from a notable club. His price means we are no longer being cornered into overspending on players who pose more risk than reward, especially if the signing fails making them harder to sell. It also potentially means we can free spending power to add another cm (something I think is a priority this summer; Mainoo cannot be overplayed, plus other options in Mount, Eriksen, and Mctom are lacklustre). His profile alongside another cm who can play volume passes and offer more control and composure would strengthen our midfield. I like how ambitious he is on the ball and uses his frame well to shield the ball, while reading the game well defensively. I'm definitely open to the signing, but another cm is a must!

At the time, he had the template of someone who could develop into a sitting midfielder and dictate tempo. But I haven't seen too much of him since and I get the feeling that the clubs he's played for and managers he's played for since have stagnated that potential.

Dimitri de Conde spoke to athletic in 2020 (before his move to SHU) and highlighted how his best position was at the 6 infont of the defence. Even his first manager Kjetil Rekdal told the athletic he was confused as to how SHU used him... I recommend reading the article, its called "What is Berge's best position and how can wilder get the best out of him" by Richard Sutcliffe. Its very informational on Berge
Those players that offer that multifaceted ability are a scarcity. Teams mostly make a trade-off for one attribute for that position and then bolster it with what they're missing with other profiles. It's the same thing we're facing at United, hence why two midfielders that can jointly bring those qualities are crucial going into next season. Our midfield as it stands is diabolical imo.
Anton Stach (25). Very solid ground coverer. Strong ariel duel percentage. Accomplished long passer and safe but unflappable in the first phase. On cheap wages at Hoffenheim the club aren't currently challanging for major honours this year could be willing to part ways for a respectable fee. He would at worst make a solid squad player for next year and allow us to offload wages and gain significant transfer fees for current stars.

I must admit I haven't had high thoughts about Berge or noticed him much. Surely an upgrade on McTominay and Casemiro (so sad to see the huge downfall of one of my former favorite players) who I would want United to get rid of asap for any fee and he shouldn't be too expensive because Burnley were relegated. If United bought Berge and Amrabat before this season I would be happy under the circumstances, but in the long run United need better players than him if United want to compete at the top. To help United get top 4 this season Berge and Amrabat might work. If United don't buy any of new midfielders United can forget about top 4 for sure. Right now I believe United will get a just as bad season as last season if Martinez get injured again with noone to cover for him again. Anyway I'll refuse to watch any match with Maguire and Lindelof as the centre backs - I had more than enough for years and I just can't stand to watch them anymore.
I've seen him live playing for Norway. He's like a Norwegian Busquets, but obviously it was against weaker opposition. Although I like the player, he seems like a Van de Beek sigining, a nice lad who won't have the grip to handle the pressure of playing for Manutd.

A very good signing. Based on the tactical play united have been implementing, he'll be a good profile. Good tackler, hardly dispossess, good passer and a very good long pass switch.
You SPECIFICALLY say that he is NOT the player to sit and protect. THAT is what we need. We need a 6 to protect the back 4, to intercept passes, to tackle ball carriers, to disrupt attacks. THAT is what we need. He is NOT THAT. THEREFORE, he is NOT the midfielder that we need. Period.

It is always not just about cost but also about how good the player is and also age and longevity. We have a set amount of money and that pie can be divided in different ways. We could spend more in one area and go cheaper in another area. Zubimendi is a better footballer than Ugarte and I think he is worth more. For what it is worth if I was DOF I would spend the midfield budget on Maxence Caqueret and Manu Kone. Caqueret to start and Kone as the reserve midfielder. I would go for Ousmane Diomande instead of De ligt and Ferdi kadioglu instead of Mazoroui.
Sander Berge looks like a more refined and versatile Collyer, which could mean less game time for the kid especially if Berge is brought in as a rotation option to another midfielder

Why not sell McTominay, Hannibal, AWB, Erickson, Lindelof and replace with Sander, De ligt, Masra and asked crystal palace to loan Wharton with an obligation to buy next season for 50-60 mil

A very good signing. Based on the tactical play united have been implementing, he'll be a good profile. Good tackler, hardly dispossess, good passer and a very good long pass switch.

@@tobejamiu6094 maybe the problem with Ugarte isn't the price but the price relative to how good a player he is. He simply isn't worth the asking price. It is always not just about cost but also about how good the player is and also age and longevity. We have a set amount of money and that pie can be divided in different ways. We could spend more in one area and go cheaper in another area. Zubimendi is a better footballer than Ugarte and I think he is worth more. For what it is worth if I was DOF I would spend the midfield budget on Maxence Caqueret and Manu Kone. Caqueret to start and Kone as the reserve midfielder. I would go for Ousmane Diomande instead of De ligt and Ferdi kadioglu instead of Mazoroui.

Huge potential. We should get him as a squad player and develop him. He could become the cornerstone of our midfield or be sold for a tidy profit in the future. Would be a smart signing which is why we probably won't go for him!
