Probably the best motorcycle review I have watched in over 40 years of motorcycling. Not because I am a follower of the channel, not because I already own a Royal Enfield. Simply because it touches on the emotions of riding the bike, the sensations and reality, not just the specifications. Excellent Stuart, thoroughly enjoyed it and will soon be looking at a Hunter.

How would one carry anything on this bike, since there is no rack?
I'm a 76 year old lifetime biker, & a retired police motor cycle cop. Have owned and ridden em all. But Stuart is right, what a fantastic little bike this is. I love mine. Buy one, you won't regret it.😊
I hope too, after my mate bought one last year , I mean what's not to like , cheap to buy , cheap to run and enjoyable to ride , love the concept of a single cylinder engine as well , wonderful 😀 stay safe 👍
As per usual, a spot on review. As a young man in the early 70s I started out with a 350cc motorcycle and as you go each bike was a progressive process in increasing displacement as I went , 500 , 903 and 1100 and with it came weight . Now I’m on the other side and my current bike is 800cc and I am seriously considering a 350cc as my last bike to take me back to where it began. I can still remember the joy and thrill my 1972 350 gave me , and it was a 2 stroke ! RE are on the money here 👍
LOL so true. We really do start out riding backwards. We go from light when we're young to heavy when we're older. My bike is pushing almost 850 lbs and I'm ready for a 450lb one now.
Honda 175, 200, 250. Morini 350, Suzuki 425, Z650, R800. I spent a lot of time gaining experience with each power level. This involves using the gearbox to overtake rather than expecting the bike to pull like a demon in top gear. If it can do that, then basically it is overpowered and you are wasting fuel riding it most of the time. That's Ok, it's fun with bigger engines. I have been able to overtake in traffic with all of them though, using the gearbox. 🙂

Same here , I'm 73 and want something reliable and simple to work on yourself , easy to get in and out of your back garden , through a couple of gates etc .
Get a 150 cc bike. You will feel like you are gliding above ground.
Stop me if you've heard this one from me before, but: I believe it was Peter Walker, founder of Quad Electroacoustics, who when asked why their hi-fi equipment didn't have all the flashy gadgetry of competing brands, answered "we give customers what they need, as opposed to what they think they want." I like to think RE has taken a similar tack with their lineup,, with the Hunter being one of the best examples yet of this philosophy. Great overview (again), Stu.

Wise words, If the bike does every thing you want and need, it is the best choice. Marvellous comments. As it has been shown over the last 90 years, 350cc has been the choice of most manufactures, e.g. Velocette, BSA, Matchless, Norton, Ariel, etc. It worked for side valves, overhead valves, overhead cams and two strokes. Well presented review.
As someone who has enjoyed riding small cc (50,80,125) bikes for over forty years on and off road, over long distances and in all weathers most reviewers claiming 250-350cc bikes are too slow or lacking power to do anything other than commute just annoy me. Glad to see that you haven't done that - I like your honest and thoughtful review.
Hi mate , I had workmates who rode Small capacity bikes to get to work being Relief Signalmen who covered great distances everyday to get to and from work , they rode things like Honda 50s , 90s & 125cc bikes in all weathers Winter / Spring / & Summer ☀️, I even had a mate who bought a 250cc Villiers engined Mongrel bike in the mid 60s , he paid £15 for it and believe it if you like he used that bike to get to University in Edinburgh from Birkenhead Merseyside, every year till he graduated, so I'm on your side with small capacity bike even though I ride a 750cc , but I'm looking at a R E 350cc in the near future . 😀 stay safe 👍

You have pretty much nailed this review, this motorcycle looks and feels nimble and better handling than any other Royal Enfield model from present era.
Royal Enfield is practically winning without going after any brand or class of motorcycles except for 'classic styled moderns'.
All their offerings are gorgeous and pocket friendly no nonsense motorcycles. While some may find a couple of issues here and there, but nothing too serious.
In fact many brands which never considered Retro/Classic as a segment are suddenly trying to bring some version of their past models or creating some new model to reassemble a classic.

TOTALLY 100%! Plus, Royal Enfields look good, they have soul, and they're sold at a price we can live with. Unlike with many bikes out there, one doesn't need to take out a 2nd mortgage to buy one... :)
@@markymarknj Each to his or her own choice I suppose, Personally I would rather spend this kind of money on a clean vintage Suzuki GS 750S with spoked wheels, which is only going to increase in value, can't see throwing money at something that is pretnding to be an icon when it is really not at all like the original and is going to loose big money in the process.
@@daviddanielstephenson2833 Hi, David. It might, for some, depend on some additional variables. I fully appreciate your choice of the GS Suzukis!, but I question the blanket "going up in value." That's not to question that it would for you -- though markets are "fickle" -- but adding miles and riding have to decrease the "classic" status, and therefor the value. I write from the US, and live in a part that is not subject to weather degradation, like most of the UK. (Again, if you're really riding.) The parts catalog for the GS Suzukis is still strong, and I remember my GS1100E (the Hans Muth era) as pretty easy to work on. On the other hand, in the US, RE is now including a three-year unlimited mileage warranty! The dealer network is reasonably comprehensive. You are likely right that at the end of a hypothetical ride-the-hell-out-of-it run, I'd be left with very little value compared to your classic. But maybe I'd simply get a lot more riding in? That might be an equation I'm fine with now. Cheers from Colorado, USA
@@johngraber5826 I agree in part with your synopsis, however the old stock is far more user freindly to repair and or work on, for myself I am already a seasoned bike tech from the mid 70's until today and have grown up with and through the anologue and now high tech era, the further in we get the more difficult is is for the layment to even comprehend the modern tech let alone, or do any repairs electrically speaking. Even with the diagnostic equipment available you cannot find out how many faults are extant, it gives you a basic insight of what has gone wrong computer wise but that's about all; I much prefer the old school back probing using multi channel scopes and common sense mecahnically speaking to iron out some of the faults found that the tech often misses out on.
Old school just before the onslaught of fuel injection and sensor madness is far easier for the layman to fathom and fix himself.
If the pradigm and the leaders of mankind get their way and cease making new vehicles the old bike graveyards in the USA will become gold mines; if not already, as the tech takes over the spares will not be available within a few years, this is when the old school will be a god send for those who want to continue riding and have some sort of freedoms left, watch this space.
@@daviddanielstephenson2833 vintage bikes are cool, but they have their problems. One is getting parts for it. Two, is keeping after it to keep it running. If it was a popular model like the Honda CB750, parts won't be an issue. You'll still have to keep after it, but at least you can get the parts to do that. If, OTOH, it's a rare bike, GOOD LUCK! A former colleague offered me his Moto Guzzi V50; all I had to do was take it off his hands. Though it wasn't running, it was in good shape; it could've been restored. Unfortunately, as soon as I started looking up parts on eBay, I ran in to a brick wall; I couldn't even find a replacement for the broken shift lever on the bike. I never took it. If I have a bike, I want to spend most of my time riding it, not wrenching on it. If you have a vintage bike, you'll spend a lot of time wrenching on it.

Hunter 350 is a good bike, tbh better than RE Meteor imo..
I have read many reviews and they all seem to be in agreement that this Hunter 350 is an excellent all-rounder. I am returning to motorcycling at 74 years of age, my first being a Lambretta in 1967 then many bikes mainly Japanese twins and 500/370 singles, a 1978 400 Four, two XBR500s, up to two Hinckley Bonnies. Sold my 'last'(!?!) T100 in Feb 2022 and got my 2006 MX5 NC sports car.
But....a gnawing regret, and glowing reviews for this 350, drew me into my local dealer today and I have ordered a Dapper Grey Royal Enfield Hunter 350!
Ha, at 59, last year I bought an 06 MX5. I love it and so does my wife. But I still like my bike. I went from an almost 700 pound Honda VTX1300 to my current 2013 Suzuki VStrom. It’s height and weight are a bit much getting it maneuvered out of the shed, but it’s easy enough to ride slowly. I’m really considering selling it and getting something lighter and smaller but I do occasionally take on the one hour jaunt down the divided four lane at 65 mph (U.S. mph). Not often be it.
Just found this video as I’ve been looking at replacing my 3-year old Enfield Interceptor and the Hunter has been on the list of suspects. You are spot on with the words in this video, motorcycling isn’t about being challenged or going fast, it’s about the connection to the environment, enjoying the ride, and being at one with the bike (at least for me) I think this bike is perfect for todays roads and RE are really nailing what people really want.
Spot on Stuart, I was out yesterday on my Himalayan rarely went above 50 mph covered lots of miles and enjoyed every thing along the way.
Excellent review as always! Thank you for explaining why RE made this bike, and why they’re going from success to success while others struggle. They get what riders are looking for, as do you. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Stuart...in the 80s I bought a Moto Guzzi V7 II 500 when on my Kiwi OE...I didn't even know what it was...a flatmate who I was supposed to travel across Europe with found it, and we went to look. I saw it, loved it, rode it, bought it. My flatmate faded but I spent a year riding it to work as a labourer (gets you fit!!) and a few trips to Scotland and Wales (using newspapers stuffed down my jacket cos Kiwis are tough!!) ..found out my travel mates had better things to do and put a carrier on the back...strapped on a backpack...and went...that wee bike took me to Israel via too many countries to mention and too many people and too many adventures and a life long romance to mention. I suspect that wee bike would be all I would need to do it all again.....without the starter crapping out so every third try I'd have to bump start!! Probs the wrong audience, but if you like a bike, and it feels right, just buy it. And ride safe.
I like it more than I thought I would. The Classic is first on my list but this is not far behind.
The Classic 350 was first on my list to keep my Meteor 350 company; now, I don't know. The Hunter 350 is a cool bike! The Hunter is neck and neck with the Classic 350 to be my 2nd bike... :)
I think I would like this as I’ve always preferred having my feet back a little and my knees down a little.
Great honest review and wish more people didn’t fall for all the marketing hype of over priced over powered and complex for no reason motorbikes. Hopefully this will lead to other manufacturers doing the same. Bring back good honest motorbikes.
I owned a Meteor for 9 months, loved that engine just not the seating position, the Hunter is what I’ve been waiting for. Like you said the engine is more than capable of riding on any uk roads, I regularly road on fast dual carriageways and I happily cruised around 65/70mph. I will be getting one to share my garage with my Ducati Scrambler come spring, I just hope I occasionally feel like riding the Ducati….. great series on the Hunter 😊

The Hunter is definitely in my wish list and it will probably be there for the foreseeable future until finances improve.
Your Royal Enfield reviews are the only RE review that matters to me because I know that you love the brand but you don't hesitate to voice out your criticisms of the brand as well. I've already fallen in love with this bike, and I love it even more because of this video. Looking forward to own this unit someday.👍

Great comments! I particularly agree about the gradual increase in capacity that manufacturers indulge in, finding it ludicrous how BMW, Moto Guzzi, Ducati and Triumph for instance, keep enlarging their twin cylinder engines, and I hope that RE do not go down that route with their 650.
Moto Guzzi's new 1000 CC bike is still a lot smaller than their older models like the MGX 21 Flying Fortress. They went for something new when they went with water cooling on the new Mandello model. Everything else in their current model year are sub 80 BHP 850 CC engines. This one will be my secondary bike if I can swing the finances next year. It will fur right next to my V85TT Travel.
But still sometimes you need 1200 cc torque rush
I love riding my bikes, but boy I do miss the times when I just got on rode to work, down to shops, or out to clear my mind, without having to dress up for battle, and access the deeper recesses of my brain to work out how to use the latest electronic Gizmo.
Royal Enfield are trying to get us back to being bikers, not collectors of this years must have tft screens.
It's funny Stuart, I wish you had made this video 3 years ago before I had spent 29k on a new Goldwing ( which I really hardly used) it was big taking up a big space, it was lovely to ride, the best bike I've ever owned, but I couldn't just nip down the shops on it. It was made for motorways, which I normally do in the car!! So I've sold it. I already own a 500 bullet I love it however its a little slow but I do love to take it out on the odd sunny Sunday. I'm now a Triumph T100 owner it ticks all the boxes, I can nip down the shops, sling some panniers on it or a tail pack to go touring and do everything I want, it will keep motorway speeds up hills but its whats needed. Something I should have done in the first place.
But your 100% on the money Stuart you don't need 125 hp to go touring and all the complications that go with it, I'll do more miles and have just as much fun on the T100 and spend less on fuel.
Just wish the penny dropped 3 years ago.
After riding a 1987 125cc Vespa for the last 20 years I couldn't agree more. Any bike does what we want it to do.
Nowadays my only issue with RE is picking wich model to buy. It's like being a kid in a toy shop.

The perfect statement "if you are a seasoned rider and has CONTROL of his ego..."... i agree with your assessment a 100%. I just started transitioning from high powered motorcycles to lower ones, and i can absolutely understand why veteran riders have graduated from the itch of high power motorcycles to more docile ones. Took me 16 years of riding to finally grasp that.

Fantastic review, I totally agree with the industry wrapped up in performance, which is fine on track , but totally taking away what is useful to us on uk roads . I'm looking forward to test riding this Hunter , but also going to hang fire to test Super Meteor 650 next year , I have had the Interceptor for 18 months and loving it .

I'm approaching 300 miles on my new Hunter and I can report that it exceeds my expectations in spades.
The handling is spry and quick while the ride is not too harsh.
The engine is smooth and punchy, the shifter/gearbox very precise and the brakes remarkably effective.
Aside from the addition of a set of bar risers, I don't feel any further modifications are required to make this bike anymore suitable for my 225lb.,6'5" frame.

Respects from Australia! I love your videos. Recently started watching your videos. I am an Indian Australian and have around 20 years of riding experience but have a hiatus after moving to Australia for the last 10 years. You inspired me and rekindled the urge to ride a motorcycle once again, and I went and brought a Classic 350, 2 weeks ago. Out in the suburbs of Melbourne, just a the rats emerge from their holes, typically most expensive motor cycles emerge out of their garages on to the road only when the sun shines and in summer only to remain locked up in the unpredictable Melbourne winter weather. Only the smaller much lesser expensive motorcycles / scooter remain on the street come rain or hail with the food delivery guys or the dwindling class of regular commuters. Hence for me, it made perfect financial sense to go out and buy a Royal Enfield and I am loving it. Although I loved Meteor and Hunter too, picked up a classic 350 as the Bullet was an inspirational motorcycle while growing up in India.

@@E-E.ADVENTUREGEARS I love the bike. Rides well in city and suburbia where I ride it the most. RIdes well on the motorways also. Depends on what you want to do. It certainly isnt the most quickest / fastest, but it has a lots of character. Ride it like you are relaxing and having fun and not racing against anyone, and I am sure you will put a smile on your face. One more thing, it attracts a lot of attention on the road and off the road, whenever you park it or at fuel stations. I have had lots of people, even Harley riders come up to me in appreciation. But on the road, I have always noticed that Harley riders looking at it and staring away. I meant the usual bikers "hi" etc. you will not get it from a Harley rider, if he is either a tradie or an old man. Test ride and decide if it is indeed the right one for you. Good luck and ride safe

Great video. I may be trading my CBR 600 for one of these. Had my good times on sport bike but now just looking for a all around fun bike to ride on county roads. I'm 51 yrs old and just want relaxed ridding fun now. Love the colour of it too in the video. Cheers from Canada
I am seriously considering the Hunter now. I recently had a chance to visit my dream machine….and it was uncomfortably big. For now. I may grow into a 900cc but a 350 sounds good for getting back on after a 30 year hiatus

Ack, I'm 6'-4", 235lbs US. I've been riding for over 50 years. This bike is a GEM, and everyone I know with one is in love with it. If it's not your cup o' tea, move on.

How to you find the bike at your height. I’m 6’3” and feel I might be a bit too tall for it. Has this been an issue for you?
OMG a sensible review, of not just this bike but all modern bikes. "It will scratch on any road at UK legal speeds!" Brilliant quote and I wish more manufacturers would realise that that is all we need. Even my girlfriend (who complained she couldn't keep up when I was riding at 50mph on an open A road) has been brainwashed into thinking she NEEDS more than a 350 😒. I downsized from 1200cc bike to 500 because I realized it's more than enough for what I use it for and weighs half the old bike.
Stuart, thank you for this realistic evaluation of a very interesting bike. I enjoy your take on What's going on in the motorcycling world and all this run away horsepower mania. Like yourself I also come from a world of BMW 1200/1250GS riding and having all the gear to conquer the world with. In reality it's the Saturday afternoon or Sunday coffee runs that are the most pleasurable. This is why I now have 2 smaller capacity bikes and the fun factor is exponentially higher. Even touring has a whole new meaning because touring isn't about how far away you can go but more about discovering your own country or county. 100 or 200 miles away makes for a wonderful 1 nighter. Keep up the wonderful weekly posts, they give me courage and are excellent for mental health. 😀👍
Thanks once again Stuart for another very good review. It appears that RE have come up with another winner in their stable of bikes. The downside of course is deciding which one to buy. The Hunter is a great looking bike and as you say, seems to be a perfect all rounder. This model hasn’t yet reached local dealers here yet so I’m anxiously waiting to test one. Greetings Stuart, et al. I write from the US, but find the equations you address compelling here, as well. There are legitimate questions some Americans might pose, given the distances and speed limits in the West. Also... Anticipating riding two-up(!) changes some requirements. Still -- and I mentioned this in responding to another of your followers elsewhere -- I am more and more convinced that the RE approach frees one to simply ride the bike! I don't know about the UK, or the Continent, but RE here has instituted a three-year, unlimited mileage warranty! Given how comparatively inexpensive the RE line is, I think the cost-per-mile is very appealing. I'm still capable of working on my motorcycles, and I appreciate quite a few very expensive examples. (I've had a few!) I'm not sure I now want a garage queen. The idea of simply purchasing any of the current REs, and really just riding the hell out of them, appeals! Best from Colorado, USA

I just purchased one in Dapper White, and am due to pick it up sometime next week. I am super excited to go traversing our two lane blacktops and my weekend running around to visit the folks, friends, grabbing some eats, and other more uninspiring stops in my truck, but now little mini adventures on my Hunter. I can’t thank you enough for your videos Stuart, and especially these relating to the Hunter. They have helped me significantly in pulling the trigger, as the detailed information you have shared as well as your usual whimsical common sense op-eds have been very helpful to me in clarifying that this was the right bike for me after a few decades of being absent from riding motorcycles in general. You are a treasure sir. Keep up the great work.

Hey Stuart I really like your comments about how the motorcycle industry has focused on power speed and categorizing bikes as beginners, touring etc …in an effort to get people to upgrade to bigger and newer models Royal Enfield in my view has turned that upside down… brought back the simplicity and joy of riding a motorcycle that the rider wants and not what the marketing guys say that you need. I traded my BMW GS 700 for a Himalayan and just love it … I purchased a Continental GT .. it looks cool and I have enjoyed it but I prefer an upright riding style and am now considering the Hunter… I don’t need 650cc motorcycle…I find the Himalayan powerful enough for my needs …and that the key .. what I want not what others think I need..So your review nailed it for me..as do all your reviews .. so keep up the good work and best wishes on your future work on the channel …
Thoroughly enjoyable review. Covered the essentials without ranting. It was good that you covered cleaning as my aging bike is my means of commuting all year round. I regularly wash it down with a low pressure water supply, then use the Muc off water dispersal stuff, then cover it. The Hunter would be an Ideal replacement, but its the kind of bike you would love anyway, a faithful friend 😎

Love the way you summarize performance requirements. I call it my riding envelope. Anything that exceeds it by 10% is perfect. All the REs do this admirably.

A great review of a very attractive bike, Stuart - you did a sterling job of promoting it. RE has now shifted from designs that harked back to the 1950s to styles of a few decades later. As the owner of one of their products, I wish them continued success.
Thanks for a good, thoughtful review! As a Meteor 350 owner who's on his 12th bike, you don't need big power to have fun; if anything, big power is scary, as you can never sit back and just enjoy the ride. Now, I have a couple of thoughts about what you said.
One, I think that the CEAT Zoom XL tires on the bike will be good. My Meteor 350 has CEAT Zoom Pluses, and they do the job just fine. Unlike many cruisers, I can lean my Meteor 350 over far enough to scare myself, and the tires grip well; I think that they have more grip than I have nerve. Let me put it this way: the chicken strip on the Zoom Plus rear is the same width as the one on the Continental Road Attacks I had fitted to my ZRX, and the Contis were great tires! If the CEAT tires compare favorably with Continentals, what more needs to be said? When the rear wears out, I'll get another CEAT Zoom Plus from the dealer. When both tires (old front and new rear) are worn out, we'll see about replacing them with something else. I'm half tempted to get something less expensive, as there are other options, like the Kenda K671 Cruiser ST. OTOH, thanks to inflation, the Kendas aren't much less expensive anymore. I know that the CEAT tires that came with my bike are good, so I may stick with them. Why not stick with what you know is good? In any case, based on my experience with the CEAT tires on my Meteor 350, I'd expect them to be good on the Hunter 350 as well. I think that CEAT tires are highly underrated. The ones on my Meteor are great!
As for who should consider the Hunter 350, I think that, like the Meteor 350, it would appeal to older riders looking for something easier to manage; it would be a great bike for someone looking to downsize. As we get older, we don't want to move a big, heavy bike around. We don't want something that'll scare us, either. Plus, as we get older and retire, money isn't as plentiful as it was when we were working. The fuel economy of these bikes isn't a trivial consideration, especially in these days and times! Gas (petrol for you Brits) costs about 60% more than it did two years ago. Even with the record petrol prices we saw in the US this past summer, I could still go out for a whole day, have fun, and spend $10-$12. That's the price of a movie ticket alone; if you add drink and popcorn, forget it. It's no contest; the Meteor 350 wins every time! Thanks to the way it sips fuel, you can have more fun than at the movies; you can have it for longer; it's better; and a day on my Meteor costs less than the movies. The Meteor 350, which shares the same engine with the Hunter 350, sips fuel, allowing for good bang for your entertainment/fun dollar-or pound, as the case may be. Plus, smaller bikes are cheaper to insure. Their tires are less expensive; because of their modest power, they don't need replacement as often, either. SO! With a smaller bike, you save twice when it comes to tires. Smaller capacity bikes are economical on so many fronts. If economy is at all important to a rider, then this bike HAS to be on their list! I'm tempted to get one myself; the Dapper Ash Hunter really does it for me... :)

Fantastic review ! One of the best I’ve watched. I like you observations of industry marketing vs rider’s actual needs. My 100HP Honda is ridden at 50% capacity almost 90% of the time. I’ve asked myself why pay for the weight and horsepower when I really just want to enjoy the view and feeling of connection to a machine flying through space. Keep up the great work ✌️

Because of your video's on the Meteor/Classic/Hunter, I went to test ride a Meteor 350 last week, the next day I bought one. They're just great.
I'm 27 and I passed my test earlier in the year... And it's easy to fall into the mindset of... "Well I passed my test on a 600cc bike, so I must get something equally as fast or even faster, because I can!"
Well, I've had an MV Agusta and I currently have a Tracer 700, they're fast (To me)... But do I have just as much fun on the Meteor? Absolutely, oftentimes, more fun.
I was overtaken by a car for the first time last weekend, on a steep incline, with my Mrs on the back and a poor gear change by myself going into 5th - Very humbling but I had a smile on my face... I caught up to them eventually lol.
Thank you "Uncle Stuart" for your wise words and guidance - I always learn something from your video's. I should have bought an RE earlier and saved myself some money along the way.
I am very tempted by the Hunter, I have a Meteor and the motor is incredibly smooth and I get a kick out finding the best way to ride it for the best performance.I have a number of bigger bikes but this is the most fun to ride. We are expecting these in Australia late 2022 early 2023. I have to go now and make some more room in my garage.
@@barriegreenbury2498 Finding the best way to ride it for the best performance sums the experience up. Riding a slow bike fast is great fun. You can develop mechanical sympathy for the bike. I would also have a Hunter alongside the Meteor, good luck.
Glad you’re enjoying your Meteor 350, I love mine too, it’s just a joy to ride, I’m also looking at the Super meteor 650 but I think I will be holding onto my 350 also 😊👍
Another fantastic real life review Stuart 👍 thanks for taking the (considerable) time to make these videos. I have already purchased the Himalayan ( thanks Noraly)now 2 years old and as you say these smaller bikes can do all that you need especially when one is pushing on to nearly the national motorway speed limit 😜 if you get my drift. Just back from 550 miler around the West of Ireland on my 1200 gsalc and I think her days are numbered just becoming a bit of a handful!! She could turn into a couple of RE's 🤣🤣 Thank you again ..

Your RE reviews are the best out there. I agree with how you feel about these bikes. I have been riding for 50 years and have owned just about every style and brand bike there is. BMW, ducks, HD Sport bikes ETC. I have a classic 350 and this bike is just as entertaining as any bike I have ever owned. Keep up the great work.
