    If you are checking comments to see if watching the video is worth the time, please check this video out. They offer a great perspective on the balance (and some of the precautions) of life in Mexico. I really appreciate the comments on the benefits of living in Mexico but also the things that may be difficult or challenging for foreigners who seek life in Merida or in Mexico in general. True, true comments about the noise and the "live and let live" mentality. I think that drives a lot of foreigners back home sometimes.....great video and thank you! Mezcal on me if I see you guys in Mérida!

    I’m from Leon, Guanajuato, living in California. I “visited” Merida in May of 2012 and stayed until August of 2014😂
    It only took a nightly drive through Paseo Montejo and a random stop at Los Trompos restaurant that day I arrived to realise how much I’d fallen in love with Yucatan
    Sadly I had to come back to California and now I’m less than a year away from achieving my goal of going back to buy a house and stay permanently
    I’m pretty sure this couple will agree to this:
    When I lived in Merida, my day seemed to last 48 hrs, it’s just relaxing 👍🏻😬👍🏻

    Hi Kimi and John. It was great to see your video. You are so right about the mindset, accepting the local people, the culture, the language, etc. I remember when I first moved to Merida, I didn’t know anyone, didn’t know any Spanish, didn’t have a place to live, but within 2 weeks, I had an apartment, learned how to catch the bus, found grocery stores, and eventually bought a ruin and renovated it with the help of the talented Fernando A. Your stories about the music, goats, and so on remind me of one of the places I rented that was next to a mechanica. Every morning I was awakened by music from someone’s radio. This after a sleepless night of roosters endlessly 😮crowing. I eventually got used to the roosters, and currently live with three roosters here in rural Florida. Also, the late night parties with music blaring and karaoke. Interestingly, I’m currently residing in an area where many of the residents have immigrated from central and South America, and the culture of music and food is abundant here. I came back to the US for a visit with family for the holidays when Covid hit. So, I kinda got stuck here helping out. It’s time for me to return to Merida. I recognized so many of the places in your video, it’s really made me homesick. Hope to see you when I return. Angie

    I've been to Merida twice. It's lovely city. The food is among the best in all of Mexico.
    There's one reason why I couldn't live there.
    Both times I was there it felt like I was inside an oven. It's much too hot for me. I was relieved when I left just to escape the heat.
    But, I will always return to visit.

    Hello from Stanislaus, I want to add my five cents to the conversation. A "fideicomiso" is something that resembles a "trust". Many non-Mexicans need to do this extra process because in Aricle 27 of the Mexican Constitution (1917) says that foreigners cannot own property directly 60 km from the border or 50 km from a costal line - basically they don't want to loose territory like it happened with TEXAS.. Hence, the bank is entrusted with the title, and the owner still holds the other bundle of rights associated with the ownership of real property.

      It's very relative. If you're coming from a very hot place to begin with, it probably won't be too shocking for you. However, many people move from cities that don't get so hot so they get very shocked by the humidity and heat when it is at its highest. You have to consder though, that all houses have air conditioning

    Would you recommend renting vs owning for early retirement?
    Just because we are not totally sure where we want our " home base" to be.... and we want to eventually maybe end up in Europe or Asia.

    • @MexicoRelocationGuide
      @MexicoRelocationGuide  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi- yes I always recommend renting vs owning. Rentals are sometimes cheaper than buying a house with a loan. And renting gives you the flexibility of checking out a few different neighborhoods in your lifetime or a few different cities.
