  • Today we take a look at RH Commercial Vehicles (RHCV), Blenheim Industrial Estate, Dabell Ave, Nottingham NG6 8WA.
    We get totally left alone and the video would not have been published if it wasn't for the Lodge Tyre mobile vans outside changing Tyres.
    We observe and comment as the Wheel is removed, Tyre is Removed, New Tyre is Fitted, Blown Up and put back onto the Hub.
    The lads didn't question the camera or my presence at all which is great to see.
    We thank the gaffer at the end of the video.
    Enjoy!

    I use to do this as a living. Trucks, tractors, combines, earthmovers and everything inbetween. I even did some aircraft tyres. The standard lorry rim is 22.5 inches but the tyre width and profile are actually measured in mm. The area of the tyre that has to be levered and hit onto the wheel is called the bead. Never stand or sit in front of any tyre whilst being inflated, a major health and safety tip right there. I'm sure you would have found that they carry a portable safety 'cage' for when tyres are being inflated but they are hardly used. Years ago before single piece rims, the wheel rim came apart and consisted of three parts. The rim, a flange and a locking ring. With these wheels the tyre just slid onto the rim with an inner tube and a flap. The flange was placed on the top and the locking ring held the assembled wheel, tyre and flange in place. If these locking rings bust or came out of place, the whole assembly would go bang !!! This system can still be found on most aircraft and earthmover tyres, 👍

    Used to work for ATS Tyres in London in the 70's and 80's. Those are tubeless rims and it's called a tyre bead not a rim. The old split rims with a locking ring were dangerous when being pumped up but much easier to change the Tyres. Back then they were 1100×22.5 or 1200×22.5 or 1000×D20. It's a pig of a job especially on call out in the winter. Summers not to bad. Used to call the wheel nut gun a rattle gun but you had to check em with a torque bar once on the truck. If a tubeless tyre pops pumping up that's it but if a split rim ring takes off look out. Used to have a safety cage in the old tranny just for that purpose. Slowly fill the tube while tapping the ring to seat it properly. Good vid though and it seems like tyre guys are the same the world over. 👍👍

      hi mate yes done a few of them old split rims with a locking ring , they were dangerous

    • @cpyart
      @cpyart ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another old fitter here. They still use the split rims on aircraft and earthmovers. It was the rust on the D20's that casused the problems. Did you ever do any of those forktruck split rims that had four piece locking rings. They were bloody dangerous !!!

    • @leelizington9501

      @cpyart ปีที่แล้ว

      The super singles were far easier than doing two. I use to do them on the vehicle with no need to remove the wheel. In fact the built up units were too heavy to be lifting up and down all day long. 👍

      @@cpyart When they were fist introduced by Goodyear we found them so hard to fit we asked Goodyear to come show us how. They came to our depot and took the equipment and a tyre from their van and fitted it in five minutes. then we gave them a new tyre out of our stock and 15 minutes later were still struggling to get it on.
      obviously there tyre had been on and off so many times it just fell on. Red faces all round.

    I was thinking of a career change into commercial tyre fitting, getting another skill under my belt and trying something new. I see lodge tyres often advertising for trainees. after seeing this and reading others talking about how dangerous it potentially is, I think I'll steer clear. they don't get paid enough.

      @@probablecausetocheckhard-drive I am actually near Northampton but Wellingborough would be nearest and is the one I see advertising a lot. I am also looking at pest control. I don't expect great money but it still appears a bit below average (circa 28k) unless you work more hours... and even then, is it worth the danger? and why the high staff turnover? it suggests there's not a lot of job satisfaction.

      I found it interesting. I upload every single day at 4pm so sometimes it may seem a little different but always filming interesting places in public 👍

      @@DJAUDITS Fair enough. People are fickle though. There was basically no discourse here. People can always search how to change truck tyre if they wish. By going off like this you may risk losing followers (not me). I mean I would happily watch this If there was at least 2 way conversation but no it was just predominantly your monologue throughout.

    6mins.. mind thinking about the energy of awareness so many times while man is enjoying the moment of energy. job satisfaction is awareness of a feeling. Imagine having to do all to future work that burdens the moment of controlling mind and body protocol.

    Wonder what the point is of the silly wee wheel and tyre on the rear of the cabin? No doubt it will be explained in 5,4,3,2,...

    The van will have a compressor and tbh it’s basically every time you get 2 loud pops and that’s the back side popping onto the rim and the front after your see it at the front,

      The lorry will also have a compressor too, which would have worked too, but ngl he should hold that wheel while pumping it up and should have it in a cage I’ve seen these fly as high as 10ft in the air and damage the roof of the building lool I work opposite moores recovery and they recoverer and repair big rigs like this mainly arctics but semis and static too
