Moving to Osaka in February! I have the visa and the job, just worried about the housing now. But I got lucky and found an AirBNB that’s 30 minutes away from my work and it’s a whole apartment that I’ll be in for the first 6 weeks. This information was very helpful!
This is so helpful!!! I had never heard of this visa and my university is on the list and I am planning to move there exactly within the 5 year deadline!!! Wowowow
Since I plan on moving/travelling to Japan (maybe with a friend) this video has been very helpful! These were legit my major concerns, getting to know all of them and better solutions for them has really put me at ease. Side note but your previous Japanese Learning videos have also helped me with my studies/understandings a bit more! ありがとうございますアナンヤさん!
Thank you for this video! It’s so helpful. I’ve always wanted to explore outside of the US but it’s always so taunting. This helps me understand it is obtainable for sure!
There's also the Highly Skilled Professional visa that last for up 5 years for those that meet the minimum requirements. It's not to hard to get for many young professionals with a college degree making at least $80k USD a year usually in STEM or business management. One of my friends was able to get his permanent residency way faster by getting this visa compared to a standard work visa.
as a current uni student who's also majoring in business admin (and other stuffs) I'm constantly worrying about what my plans are after college or what I should even be working towards to rn. but one thing I knew was that I want to live in Japan one day! you video has been so helpful bc other videos about visas are always so confusing for my to understand but you video was so clearly explained and simplified!
I would say that the easiest visas to get are not work and student visas, but working holiday visa and student visa. As J-find visa has the limitation that you need to be graduated from a specific university from a list the working holiday visa it’s more or less the same but with your passport. It’s only possible to get if you have a passport from some of the selected countries. But this means all Europe basically, Australia and same countries in America so it’s a lot! And all the people that I know that got it say it’s so easy, even difficult to be rejected it
Great stuff. Having gone through the exact opposite experience (moving from Japan to the U.S.) several years ago, I can relate to much of what you shared😊
Thanks for the video. I think the CoE certificate is actually really important so a break down of that process would be very cool! But happy with whatever you pick in any case 😅
There is also a startup visa if people are interested... That said, it is also a short term visa (1 year)... I mean you are allowed to "fail" at starting a company... There is also a digital nomad visa, but i guess not for most people...
Thanks for sharing! I didn't know about the J-Find visa. As someone who moved to Tokyo this year for grad school, I'm trying to figure out what I'll be doing after I graduate. I definitely want to stay here and the J-Find visa seems like something I can look into, as a fellow Berkeley grad. Go Bears 🐻~
Thank you for all the helpful videos you put out. (Short introduction: Hi I'm Bram, 24 years old, male, live in the Netherlands) And since I've been so fascinated by Japan and it's people for years (and since I've been there I can't think of anything else other that Japan) I'm actually thinking about moving there someday if possible. But it looks pretty difficult for me because I'm not a native English speaker and for a lot of jobs that will give you a work visa that is a requirement. Also the school systems here are different then in the US and Japan, we don't have those big name "universities". It seems to me getting a visa is a big obstacle for me. But I'm still looking for ways to make it possible. I've seen some jobs that don't require any experience like working in construction what caught my attention. But it seems like those jobs won't support you with a visa. I don't know if you got any advise for people like me. I would just love to get a nice apartment in Tokyo (I don't need much), have a job I enjoy and that will provide me with enough vacation/free days and also salary to live from (and also to be able to save up for some trips and fun stuff to do in life). If anyone know how to get a visa/apartment/job in my situation, I would highly appreciate it.

I just discovered you on one of the tarosac’s gaijin interviews that features 3 foreign residents in Tokyo whose conversational Japanese excel to the insanity zone like spell bee finalists. I knew from the first few minutes that you’re from the Bay Area. Watching you talk in ultra-normalized American is a bit disappointing not because of you but because of my expectation towards your extraordinary cultural potentials.
Thanks for the info! Getting locked into a contract sounds so scary lol. I’m a professional artist but a college drop out so sometimes I feel SoL when it comes to visas T~T just trying to save enough for the student visa/tuition and take it from there
Yeah it’s rough 😭 I do have a few friends who were college dropouts or didn’t attend who eventually figured out a visa situation (they generally had to either start a business or join their friend’s). Best of luck!
Great video. I’m thinking about moving to Japan in the next few years but want to visit more before that. By any chance have you done any research into the nomadic visa?
I have moved to Osaka in late November. There are some problems that I am facing to. As a business manager visa holder, I am also managing to start up a small business. However, I am worrying about the gain. Probably I will consider this type of visa and continue my business.
Thanks for the helpful insights, Ananya! I am set to start my job in Japan soon. I've heard that the major challenge while looking for a place there is that majority of the landlords refuse foreigners. Is there any truth to it or just people exggerating for social media clout? My company will help me with the housing, but I wanna know if I have the option to choose for myself in the future.
I grew up here and It is very very true. you can’t 100% get the place you want most of the times and have to go through an agency and they’ll talk w landlords and introduce to places.
I'm excited for you! I would say it's 50/50, there are a lot of places that do deny foreigners but in my experience a lot of the places were foreigner friendly as well (it helps to speak Japanese). But if you go out of your way and find a listing that doesn't really seem like it would allow foreigners...chances are it doesn't
Thank you for the information here. I'm still within my first year of learning the language and got back from Osaka about 2 weeks ago now. I loved it. So this is the next step of researching between my studying sessions. Edit: One question I had was around the earnings, do you feel that most average paying careers allow for a comfortable apartment/living conditions?
@@hiananyaa Thank you kindly for the reply. It's difficult to understand housing as an affordable concept. I work in IT for a major company and just couldn't comprehend how that would translate from the US to Japan.
Hi! Thank you for all the informations About renting a apartment, do you recommend any app or real estate agent that makes things easier for foreigners?
Hi Ananya senpai I’m really struggling with figuring out how to move to Japan. Being from Pakistan, the requirements and restrictions are pretty tough. I recently missed my JLPT test because something urgent came up, and even though I had submitted the form, I couldn’t attend. I’m thinking of applying to a Japanese language school first, then going for a master’s program, and eventually working in Japan. The problem is, a lot of these schools don’t accept Pakistani students. I’m trying to find a school that offers a 6-month language course that I can extend for another 6 months, or should i go for 2-year program? Actually I want to learn enough Japanese to reach level 3 before applying for my master’s. I’ve heard that getting a student visa is the best way to move to Japan from Pakistan. Do you know how I can apply for that and which schools are good for International students. Also, I’ve got a few questions about living and working in Japan. Do you know how much rent is in Tokyo? I know it’s expensive, but I’d like some more details. And can international students work part-time in Japan? If yes, how do I go about finding a part-time job. By the way, I’m self-studying Japanese through TH-cam and Instagram. I’m really excited about moving to Japan, so any advice or help you can give me would be awesome. Thanks a lot!
This is so cool and helpful, thank you for telling us about this! If I understand correctly, you can apply for it as long as you meet the requirements and search for a job when you get there (and you can take up to a year)?
