  • Today I practiced landings with the phantastic F-4E Phantom from ‪@HeatblurSimulations‬ and I think that after a few attempts the result is quite presentable. What do you think?

    Wonderful landing. Awesome livery, one of my favorites.

    A few comments mention you only achieving AOA as you pass the threshold. For a military fast jet THIS IS correct procedure holding that ^0 on the AOA indexer till threshold then getting the o just before touchdown. RAF instructors teach this method to new pilots, so a well done from me for a perfect touchdown, but I do agree you were fast on the downwind with gear and flaps coming out above 250Knts.
    Nice video and good choice in music. Keep up the good work

      I've always wondered why so many people have criticized it, for me it was a pretty good approach, even if it wasn't perfect. Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it.

      @@flyingchiefDCS He does and he is a really cool addition. I'm having a blast in the F-4E. It was so worth the wait! And having a WSO is a really interesting dynamic that I am finding a lot of reason to be thankful for.

    Very fast round downwind to final. You only reach on-speed AoA on the flare.
    Having said that, im really struggling chasing the the throttles around to keep in the really narrow envelope of on-speed while controlling rate of descent

      Thank you for your advice, which I greatly appreciate. However, I'm from Germany and it was clear to me from the start that I wouldn't be making any videos with English commentaries. This is because the English-speaking DCS community is already quite large and I want to “ supply” the rather small German-speaking community. However, in order to appeal to a wider audience, I regularly make videos without commentary and let the video speak for itself.

    Hm..would you be dragging the chute like this behind you or cut it off after it drops down ? Are they reusable ?

    • @flyingchiefDCS
      @flyingchiefDCS  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, you just drop it... following the procedures, you do it on the taxiway. In DCS you get a new chute after rearming and refueling.

    • @aviator1111

      Yes drag chutes are reusable, except for the situations that they get damaged

    Nicely done, indeed. But you´ve been a bit fast on the approach. Try to be between 160 and 180 knots to be precise onSpeed AoA.

    Very smooth landing but it looked like you were going a little fast at touchdown. Also, it looked like you didn't lower your flaps until on final. Did I see that right? Anyway, it looked great. I'm still landing like a house brick that's been thrown out of a car window. 🙄

    • @flyingchiefDCS
      @flyingchiefDCS  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The landing was certainly not perfect and after watching Reflected's new video today, I know what I need to do better. But slats & flaps were definitely in the OUT & DOWN position 😇

  • @richskinns
    @richskinns หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Comments- Deploy flaps on the base turn before finals and achieve correct AOA on finals. You only achieved it just prior to the flare so were fast on touch down. Trimming on downwind is very crucial so you can focus on subtle throttle movements to control the rate of decent.

    • @nemisis_wolf
      @nemisis_wolf หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Achieving AOA just before touch down is common practice in fast jets (with the exception of carrier landings) It is the correct and same method taught by RAF instructors to new Fast Jet Pilots!

    • @Q3ark
      @Q3ark หลายเดือนก่อน

      If he achieved the correct AOA then surely he must have been at the correct speed no?
