      There is no such thing as good or bad. Joji only provided his vocals without involvement in the songwriting or production. Creating music, especially writing and producing, requires significant effort. In the case of this particular song, many consider it a masterpiece. While there may be singers more skilled than Joji and Charlie, the unique contribution of the composer-songwriter is irreplaceable. Joji undeniably proved to be a perfect fit for the song.

    • @MegaRekless
      @MegaRekless ปีที่แล้ว +1382

      I guess that's fair, it does kind of make Joji himself seem more shallow. But the song itself and the people who wrote it certainly aren't shallow and they deserve a ton of credit, especially Riley McDonough who both wrote and composed the original song with the help of Connor McDonough, Castle, and Alexis Kesselman TWO YEARS before Joji heard it.
      Here's a really touching statement from him about his personal connection to this song:
      June 10th. Two of the most pivotal moments of my life have happened on this date. June 10, 2016. - we lost a very dear friend, Christina Grimmie. I never could have prepared for the effects this night would have on my life. Being that the tragedy of losing Christina happened at our own show near where I grew up, this was very close to home both literally and figuratively. It took years of strong friendships and rebuilding to feel like a functioning human again, but it is something that will live with me forever. There were many different waves of real depression unlike I had ever known before that night. In times of sadness, my way of healing has always been writing songs. June 14, 2019 - a few days after the 3 year anniversary of losing Christina, I was really struggling at this time and life just didn't make sense. On this day, there's a voice memo I made of a song calling out to God where I asked "If I could only catch a glimpse of you". 6 months later, Dec 16, 2019 - I had a last minute writing session on a rainy Sunday with @connormcdonough, @i_am_castle_, and @idarosemusic. Many times in sessions I will just scroll the titles of my voice memos to see if anything jumps out. This day I saw the voice memo labeled 'Glimpse' and said "I love the word glimpse for something" and an entirely new idea was born. The song 'Glimpse of Us' was created that day. It wasn't until two years later, Joji heard the song and after some changes, the final version was made. June 10, 2022 'Glimpse of Us' was released to the world and went on to become the most successful song of our career as well as our first extremely notable work as songwriters. It wasn't until recently that I remembered what was said in that initial voice memo those years ago. Calling out for some bit of a sign. I now see that what I got back was tenfold to what I could have ever imagined. I write this to say that you never truly know the beauty that is constantly forming from the pain. Our hurt is never wasted. This is why I will forever pour my heart into everything I ever make. Sending only love. Thank you for listening.

      Most industry popular music is written by members of the songwriters guild. 90% of “artists” are simply live performers and recording artists who have the face, style, character and voice to portray certain vibes for which the guild specifically write songs for, and pass songs around till an artist is either available to do it or a match made in heaven happens which is the case with glimpse of us. Mainstream music literally comes from factories in Hollywood and New York lmfao. All carefully designed to manipulate and sway the people, which I think is what is fuckin cool about music. Do you hate directors not writing their own screenplays, do you hate actors not writing the movies they act in? It's not that deep

    Oh man:(.....now knowing Joji didn't write Glimpse of Us kinda ruined the song for me ngl. It felt personal and intimate man, like Joji wrote it from his heart, expressing the pain and heartache he experienced in his life. The song is still amazing and props to whoever actually wrote it, but still, kind of a bummer

    I think Charlie is very talented but he wouldn’t have sold the story in the way Joji was able to. Charlie Puth would’ve stripped like half the raw emotion from it and it would’ve sounded like a generic pop song

    According to ASCAP (which is the performance rights organisation), Joji is credited as a writer of the song.
    If anyone is bothered to check it, you can Google ‘ASCAP repertory’ and then search for Glimpse of Us.

      The way it works is even if you don’t actually write the song you can get featured songwriting creds as a vocalist through contracts even if you’ve done nothing or barely anything…Beyoncé has been known to do this

    • @Nilruin
      @Nilruin 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Incorrect. According to the ASCAP and the Wikipedia page, the accredited writers are "Alexis Kesselman, Castle, Riley McDonough, and producer Connor McDonough". So uh, no. Joji didn't write the song.

    I dislike Glimpse of Us because it's not the Joji that i know and I listen
    it's like it is sad song and sounds like one but like the mainstream kind of sad, sounds like a song that would be liked by teens on tiktok in which it did blew up in tiktok
    It's sounds a sad song that i Joji wouldn't really sing

    Songwriting and production are absolutely essential to a successful song, but let's not disregard the impact that performance has on bringing a song to life. Joji did great work with his vocals, and it wouldn't be the same without him. Huge credit to the song writers and producers of course, but we don't have to discount one contribution to appreciate the others.

    Joji has some vocal "help" during the concerts. it impossible to sing it like him without some kind of digital help. He sings it really silent and turns the microphone volume up. In this way, the result is really cool. Maybe I am wrong, but from what i`m hearing ...

    charlie does have a lot of talent but this song was not made for him. maybe because we all know joji behind the voice of the song and it’s hard to picture anyone else doing it but they have two completely voices. joji has a more calm demeanor with a lot of his songs compared to charlie who does upbeat things and likes to add different beats and be more out there with the content he puts out. joji definitely deserved every ounce of love and popularity this song got. it’s his for sure.

    I'm very baffled because the show biz people seem to give songs to artists just like that, but all I was taught is show biz people steal songs from artists and, also, you have to give your soul to the devil in order to get promoted and I don't picture either one of these artists doing weird masonic rituals, so I'm genuinely baffled.

    Joji has such a melancholic and heavy delivery on everything whilst achieving the “relaxed” sound that Charlie describes. It’s a hopeless song, and with all due respect, Joji nails sounding how hopeless and empty feels. Don’t know who hurt him to help him achieve that, but they need to do some soul searching Lmao

      Gotta love people bickering about their favorite artist being an idol that can do no wrong on a video where an artist told a story about how cool your favorite artist is. It's like watching an author of a book talk about how great another book is, and you decide to stand up in the crowd and yell, "yeah, your book was worse than that one that you just talked about." It's absolute lunacy.
      I hope you never get a chance to procreate and ruin the gene pool further, your parents already did enough damage with you.
