I see a bunch riders not proficient on turns. Only way to feel safe and comfortable is to be in the first 5 spots. At 62 years old that’s not easy. So I find road races with hills. More hills the better. Breaks up the group.

I like to use the zwift tempus fugit as ftp test, and Alpe de zwift. I follow the Greg lemond philosophy, “old cyclists, it still hurts, you just go slower”.

I'm curious about gearing for a flat course like this or Floyd Bennett Field, should I ever take the plunge and try this. How much range are you actually using? How many gears? My impression is that you never needed to come off the big ring, and didn't use more than three or four gears on the cassette.

Only big gear and yes only a few gears probably (if you are smooth)

I agree with your coach, 1min and 5min power are king in Crits. Combine that with repeatability and a great sprint coupled with an engine that can hold tempo for hours and you'll be a machine. I figure sitting in the draft can be at tempo if done correctly and then with the 1 and 5 min power you can go with any move as long as positioning is on point.
I do agree with what you said around the 5min mark with racing similar but having more fitness, you might of seen my comment the other day about that. I'd just make your race goal to never fall back below the top 25% of the riders in a race, those are the hungry racers that likely will have the fitness at the end to string it together, much further back than that most wheels aren't good and will let things go because of lack of fitness as well as have a yo-yo effect in the corners with their lack of speed through the corners which will just require so many matches to be burnt. You'll have to be aggressive to do this but coming into next season I think you can find yourself on some podiums if you check all the boxes. Remember it's all positioning once you have the power and positioning is all mental. Win the mental battle within yourself and become the racer you are destined to become :)
Love the videos, keep it up, hopefully 10k followers before the New Years 🤙

3:37 hey I still have mechanical on all my bikes 🙂. Mainly because they're older designs and I haven't had the money to buy new ones 😎.

@@ClaudioMarquez at least for another year, I want to get a road bike and a triathlon bike both with 12 speed, so I can buy a nice set of race wheels to use between the two of them. because right now my road bike is 11 speed, and my time trial bike is a 10-speed so I can't swap Wheels between them without going through a whole bunch of hassle. Plus I want to get Rim brakes on both of them too.

Hey, question for Claudio and the hivemind… there any facebook road bicycle racing group? As odd as this sounds I can’t seem to find any related to either road and/crits. There’s plenty of group for triathlon and running, but the cycling groups I can find our only casual cycling not competitive.

I actually don’t know! There are some groups for local races but not too active. Just posting race news.

1 min and 5 minute power are important BUT your entire power profile is infinitely easier with a higher ftp, as is repeatability......repeats at 450 are easier from an FTP of 350 than 250

4:05 do you need it to be competitive no, but do you need to be cool? that is the question in cycling? do you want to be cool?
