Hi Jack this was great, I appreciate the info! Do you have any idea how much this trip costed in total? A brief breakdown would be great if possible. Planning this trip over a month in late 2024 early 2025.
I can definitely put together a trip breakdown in the future for sure! Hey Tim - weather at its coldest camping on elevation around 2-4’ and max was normally 28-30’ in the hotter sections of Fueteventura and Lanzarote. Max on GC and LG was around 26-27’ 👌
Hey Michael, I would definitely do Gran Canaria and La Gomera. I've heard great things about La Palma, people usually put that in their top 3 but I didn't get their unfortunately. Tenerife would be priority 4, then Lanzarote and Fueteventura
Many thanks Jack. Lots of good info and great images. I've booked flights to south airport Tenerife to do the GR 131 in early February. A few questions: 1) I prefer to use ethanol in my home made hobo stove. Anyone know what 90% alcohol is called in Spanish and what kind of stores I could buy it? I guess painting/DIY stores but don't know where any are. I have an MSR dragonfly that will burn petrol, but it's loud and heavy. 2) Which month did you sleep with a 0'C quilt? I have a choice of 2 sleeping bags. Western Mountaineering Summerlite (comfort 0'C, 500g) or Mountain Equipment Snowline (comfort -20'C, 1300g). Will use a silk liner with either. My shelter is Z Packs hexamid (original design with separate oversized groundsheet so I can control ventilation to a decent degree, but it's not a warm double-skin tent). My wool underwear is heavy enough that if I had to take it to supplement the Summerlite, I would rather carry the extra down of the Snowline instead and be guaranteed warm. What do you think? 3) When filing up with public/restaurant washroom water, did you filter/purify or were you just fine without? Cheers in advance, Stu
Hey Stu cheers for the comment! In regards to the questions: 1) I’m not sure on finding the ethanol sorry - I tried a few DIY/camping stores on Lanzarote that had propanol but can’t remember seeing any 90% alcohol 2) I hiked in winter Dec/Jan and used a 4 deg sleeping quilt and I was at times too warm…some nights a bit more chilly but I had a thermal I would just whip on and I was fine with that. I think you’d be okay with your 0’C Summerlite quilt 👌 3) yes I used a filter for all water I collected and didn’t have any issues. Met some hikers who used the water from bathrooms without filtering and they said they didn’t have any issues
@@jackbrookes many thanks for the extra info Jack. Okay, sounds good. I'll take the summerlite and a water filter. going out for a training hike this afternoon actually :)
Hey Josh, enjoyed the video. I'm planning to Hike Gran Canaria in late Nov. I notice you said overnight temperatures got down to as cold as 4 degrees, is that correct? You seem to have your down jacket on fairly regularly too, did it get quite cold in the evenings? What kind of day/night time temps can I expect. I expecting it to be pretty much roasting in the day dropping off 9/10 degrees at worst overnight...
Thanks for the comment Grizzly! Great question - during the days it was indeed roasting, during the evenings I think lowest would of been 9 and that’s camping on some elevation as well…a light down jacket came in handy, but you could get away with a fleece👌 I did have some thermals but rarely used them
Hey Jack, is it possible to do the hike in the opposite direction? I'm thinking about doing 3 islands starting literally next week but planned Tenerife and Fuerteventura hiking the opposite way vs what the trail suggests (helps with the flights). Do you think that could be a problem?

Got a lot of similar gear, including the cumulus 250 and a thin 120g silk liner aswell. Im bringing it on the GR11 in a week from now. How cold could u go with the bag/liner combo?
Hey Dan it’s a great combo and I love it. Silk liner adds some warmth on those chilly nights. I’ve been in 0 degrees in Hornstrendir in Iceland and it handled well - I had to wear a single thermal layer, gator and socks and was fine. That’s the coldest I’ve been in it

Hey Jonathan, thanks!
1. It would of been 3 days in Fueteventura (purely because the only shop I passed by had closed - I would say the ingest you go without any shop or store is 2 days)
2. Yes definitely - vegan would be difficult though. Lots of cheeses at local shops, I would suggest stocking up at the bigger grocery stores as well
Are you planning on doing the hike?
@@jackbrookes dude thanks for the reply!
And yeah. I'd love to do the whole thing but i think this time I'll only do ~7-10 days. Your guide certainly helped!
@@jonathanfarache5218 enjoy mate! 7-10 days is plenty out there anyway, you’ll love it
Hello from Romania! Best boots from your opinion?
Hi Danny and thanks for the comment! To be honest I’ve never owned a proper pair of hiking boots. Prior to the Cascadia’s I was using adidas trail runners. So I can’t comment with an honest answer sorry
@@jackbrookes thanks for the reply, great clips to as many as possible!
