- This is the third part to the Rusty Nail/ Gold bar Trail run. Great trail run with friends and great weather. Did a few repairs on the trail and we finished it just before dark.

Justin…Put a 2 barrel Carter on that GMC…You can stand that truck on its tailgate and that carb will still run.(been there done that!)
Being a BBC he would be better off with a properly setup qjet.
I was wondering why he kept stalling until I saw the carb.

Back in the day.... 70s-80s the Q-jet carbs were considered crap but worked good off-roading, and still do.

Love seeing everyone work together on a trail repair. Mike was doing the heavy lifting, but everyone else was on stand by and ready to jump in and do whatever was needed. That's gotta be half the fun of wheeling.

Mike, I enjoyed running into you gents on Flat Iron Mesa just past the Intimidator obstacle yesterday (2/18/2024). You guys played through and I was the lead rig in the white Gladiator. Good to see you guys out and just running some trails.

Some wheeling, some wrenching, overall pretty fun time. Justin's truck is a beast! I'm not a big fan of Edelbrock carbs, I bet Rory has at least one old Quadrajet laying around. Be worth a try to swap it.
The onlr thing missing when mike was welding and holding that welding lens were the sandles 😂😂

Mike may not have a cool looking welding face mask but he adapts. I hope you find a spot for some sort of welding mask on your death star if you have not already. And the kid is getting brought up right. Underfoot of people who can do things nobody would think of doing like shoving a stick into an engine to fix it. Between wheeling with all ya'll and learning the ropes of trailmater recovery... I think he is in good hands.

I actually like the trail repairs more than the rock climbing. And now we know: If you are going to take a welder, take a mask too so you don't screw up your eyes. There are very small ones, so you would just get some sunburn on your face. No big deal.
Hammer. Still the most used tool in the toolbox.

Justin, get rid of that junk Edlebrock and do FI or a good ole chevy Quadrajet. Quad is easily the best offroad carb out there. They do take some tuning but once set up you can set the rig on about any angle.
I got rid of the edlebrock on my first v8 CJ build for a 25 dollar junkyard Quad and man what a difference it made offroad

I would never put pitbulls on any of my trucks, not a fan of the round - but they look so good and so right on the death star!
A couple of spot welds and that tailgate will be fine for eternity.
I always heard the the hmmv tires were less than ideal to wheel with but they seem to do alright
I can't believe I did this trail 20+ years ago.....with my Isuzu Trooper (33's and front locker). Has this trail degraded or remained fairly unchanged over the last 20 years? I'd like to go back and try it again.
I've only seen it in the last 2 years, but it seems consistent!
nice to see a channel without the JK and JL on 40's with giant light bars, enjoy the rigs keep it up.

What psi is Justin running in his good year military 37's? I've got two brand new sets and one used . Hopefully there decent I'll be running them awhile since 16.5's are so hard to come by.
Quick question, why do you use an arch welder on the trail and always use a mig welder in the shop? Just wondering
The welder on my truck is a stick welder wich is good for outdoor welding with wind and such. I prefer mig welding in the shop because it's easier!
You guys need to find some masks that will ride and not take up too much room. Welding like that is not good for you. On a plus side, you did not use an impact to assemble. 👍

What welding rod do you use Mike? I've always used 6011 because everything is rusty and dirty.
